MY GOD THIS VIDEO IS SUCH A RARE CAPTURE! Ive seen more videos of unicorns in the wild, then of MAYNARD Within this much light, in this time period! I came here for my favorite live performance of h. but I am so blown away by crawl away live, and such fidelity Audio visual! I CAN SEE YOUR!!! BACK IS TURNED AND!!! IF I COULD ID!!! STICK A KNIFE IN!!!!!! Long live TOOL
Time catches everyone. You just can't do what Maynard did and not damage your vocal chords. This is Tool at their best. Minus the lights and psychedelic experience of today. They are still amazing. But this makes your mind and body move.
I would never turn down a chance to see them. They could be in wheelchairs and I'd still drop a couple hundred, no questions asked. I owe these 4 men quite a bit.
I was there! I just did a random search for ozzfest videos at shows I attended and wasn't expecting to find anything. My jaw hit the floor when I saw this.
I don’t find these comments about Maynard having ‘lost his voice’ very impressive. Maynard’s voice is still capable of excellent tone and precision in a lower register than before (see Puscifer), just like anyone in their 50s. And I don’t think that him having sung so hard in the past can be held responsible for his change in register over time because, no one 50+ can do what Maynard is doing in this video, whether they did it in their 30s or not. So there.
Its unbelievable how folks can beatch about something they know nothing about. Noone is the same when they're older. It's called getting old and the sooner you learn to live with it the better you will live. Geez they think he should sound the same as he did long ago.
Yea but he has lost his voice in that natural and totally understandable way. Especially considering all that he gave for these epic 90s shows, don't forget the ones for RATM - Know Your Enemy, amazing wowee! Few people have ever been able to project like early Maynard, a bygone era. New stuff is still lyrical genius so we can get down!
There's a better audio somewhere or different performanace where Maynard does the same repeated I... I... I... don't mind, it's really a great improvement / addition to the few H. live performances out there as it's subtle unlike the variations of other songs. Love it!
@@willhpc4-life249 cool will look for that in bootleg if i can thanks! you know i just grabbed a few days ago a 2002 German performance with H. but didin't do this sadly, i know that somewhere around that year H. was no longer performed along with a few other songs to much dismay :(
holy cow. what a performance. Makes me wish I had a time machine. Do you have more that you can upload from this show huntington? I'd love to see more.
Great song but oof what happened to the bridge there? starting at 5:20 I think Justin might have came in off time and Danny's trying to get him back on beat. You can hear Justin slip timing a lot during this. I think Justin's lookin' to Paul at first trying to catch the right timing before he looks back to Danny. Danny sounds like he's accentuating the downbeat a lot even though the accent on this beat is on the 4th beat to try and get everyone back in time -- you can hear him giving an extra hard hit on the ride each downbeat which isn't part of the song. Then when Maynard comes in, it's a complete wreck and everyone's looking at each other trying to adjust and save it. Should note, super professional and good musicians that they can compensate on the fly for others' mistakes. Usual non-instrument playing vocalist stuff, they're not as in tune with what's going on in the performance, just trying to keep count and come in at the right time. I definitely didn't expect Maynard to catch that -- would have been super impressed if he did. They get back on track before they get out of the bridge though -- definitely shows that Danny's the glue and Paul's solid right behind him. These guys normally play in their own world, so when they're looking back and forth at each other nonstop, you know something's up. lol.
sounds different from the album version. did they speed it up on purpose or was someone off beat? even if you see this post 4 or 5 years later, let me know, ill read it, hard to believe it was a mistake cuz tool rarely ever makes mistakes, they are as close as any band can come to complete perfection.
Wow, Maynard messed it up here... he should have entered singing at 5:42 but he entered a whole 4th note later... he sings out of sync all that part until the rest of the band manages to join him at 6:06 (in the word "eyes") when it was too obvious.
The last best years of Maynard's voice was 2002,the last yer they've played this song and some of the greatest performances of this song was then. But the rest of the band is still top not h so I won't say tools last good years were way back when, when in fact they've remained great and on key.Just Manyards voice, imagine what vicarious would sound like if it were 10+ years ago
From 5:23-6:03 you can tell they all knew the bass player was a note behind .. then he catches on 6:04 ..gotta love it!!! They are so unorthodox they hVe challenges playing their own songs too lol I’ve jammed and we’ve covered a couple of their jams but damn is it hard .. still wish I cld of seen them live 😟😒
@@rvn2183 Nah. Chris is correct. Maynard was fine. It was Justin's boo boo @ 5:22. Barely noticed until I noticed, now it sticks out. But they're professionals, they fixed it no problem.
i agree. i dont even listen to tool post 1999. after that year maynards voice has faded away and he can no longer hit the same notes that he used to. Tool in the 90's were the greatest band around, and performed some of the greatest live concerts of our time. there music doesnt sound the same anymore, I dont blame maynard though, his voice is gone and there is nothing he can do about it. thats a result of 20 years of stressing his vocals. still the greatest band of all time though. hands down
Back with Maynard used to put 100% into his live shows. Simi's guys almost 30 times in the last two or three have been disappointing. He might put 60% in just singing a song like it used to sound. The rest of band is 100%. It's not that he's lost his voice he just doesn't care
Guitars, basses and drum sets can be fixed or bought anew. Voices age and ranges get diminished. And as we get older, we aren't necessarily as energetic or passionate. He probably does care, otherwise he wouldn't keep playing. In three bands. Despite having more than enough money to quit.
2:01 "All you gotta do is find a joint and we're all set"
He's right.
@@Itsunclegabby I've seen you before. I'm remembering all of the people who go to all of the videos.
One does not simply enter a tool show weedless
"this guy's taping"
I get chills at the i don’t mind part every time.
I get chills at every main point in their live songs.
Indubitably

Long live TOOL
This performance has so much depth, even years later. So much going on. I love the look on Adam's face, he is so purely into the music.
Man I was around 15 at the time. Why I never started listening to Tool until my mid 20's is beyond me
This is the best performance of H. I've ever seen.
Time catches everyone. You just can't do what Maynard did and not damage your vocal chords.

honestly i feel like the lights in their current shows are/would be too distracting for an older concert like this one.
Tickleshits right on, id trade any tool show that ive seen to see one pre 2002. Cool dog too
Less light- more TOOL!
Exactly. I'm so happy that I saw them pre 2002 (1997). But that doesn't mean I wouldn't go see them again if I get the chance. Just different.
I would never turn down a chance to see them. They could be in wheelchairs and I'd still drop a couple hundred, no questions asked. I owe these 4 men quite a bit.
This is why I love Tool so much, their songs have so much emotion and power and each musician is a respectful master of his craft

Check out lastest renditions of part of me bro! He can still kill it

7:00 behold a GOD
God? No. An avatar of humanity itself.
When I see it I can die
Literally my favorite TOOL live section. I love the way he changed it, makes it even better.
This is an extremely emotionally powerful performance
i was five years old.
i hate my life.
I was 2 and Undertow was when I wanted to have seen them. There with you
I was 4, missed the golden age of rock
I was 6.
Was 1 month before I was born
You missed greatness.
Chills every single time.
Incredible performance from all the band as always 🙌
TOOL at some of its absolute finest...
6:50..every soul in that building was involved in something extremely special in that time
Personally, I find this era (1998ish) to be Tool's best live performances. Now only if i wasnt 5 years old when this was going on ...
Thanks Huntington!
Amazing live show! Wish I could go back in time and see it again!
Who could dislike? Wow.
They don't matter. Only the music matters.
I DONT MIND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omgggg 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Jan 17th T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas will be my first time seeing them live and I've loved them since middle school ommggggg🔥🔥🔥❤❤🎶🎶🎶♎♎♎
this song is so sad but so good!! tool all day everyday!!
My man! Thanks huntington.
Yaaay my awesome beautiful buttercup Maynard... I can't help it he really makes me very happy and feel better when I'm not OK
I saw them on this tour. It was life changing and before they were as widely appreciated as they are now. Very intimate
All we gotta do is find a joint and we're all set.

yep, around the bridge, they shift out of time by a beat but they get back in for the bit at 6:20.
Yeah they definitely get out of time during the bridge, they pulled back in really well though
@7:15 equals initiation complete...carry on

Lateralus has some of the greatest drumming Ive ever heard. It's mind boggling and the album is a masterpiece.
Apotheosis lateralus came out in 2001
This song is from Ænima lmao
