Apex? Not entirely sure about that. I've seen'em LIVE in 1992, at Lollapa; NorCal Shoreline Amphi, on small side stage, mid-day set, w/500ppl MAX there to witness & experience the birth of T∅∅L. Regretfully, I've only seen'em a dozen or so times since. Although MJK exhibited far more physically/visually jaw-dropping, eye-popping & gut wrenching stage presence back then~ than ANY contemporary LIVE- T∅∅L gig ... not2 mention, his anciently unparalleld, masterfully powerful, bottomless breathing screams howls (while holding a note w/perfect pitch) at the universe, has sadly, in all its Hellbent hunger & infuriated glory, a has long since been a recollection if yesteryear. Memories. Their catologue of masterpieces is so ethereally incredible...that any eluding to "apex" of career simply does zero justice for the longevity of the group, the unparalleled quality, teamwork, skills & talent put into each album cannot possibly be overlooked. It could even be argued...(and quite honestly HAS BEEN)- that thia quartet of good ol'fellaz have only JUUST REACHED a potential pinnacle point of their 30+ Year union. #FEARINOCULUM is to some, the definitive, career defining album of T∅∅L. The best ever...albeit 1.3 decades in anticipation of its release..... But I digress. T∅∅L RULEZ!
One of the best live bands I have EVER seen!!! Hands down! I have been fortunate enough to see Tool four times live! Every performance was unique and powerful! Truly one of the great bands!
It's amazing that this only exists because a member of the crowd broke the rules by sneaking in a camera. Otherwise, what would we have? Kind of a shame that nothing in their past was professionally shot. I get that artist's believe the true intentions in their music can't be captured unless you're psychically present; but damn. I'd die for a good audio recording of these performances (with whatever crappy video footage we can get).
"This next song is called tell me whatcha want whatcha really really want." And they play Hush. I just caught these guys in Cedar Park Texas and holy fucking shit bag fucking hell Maynard (and Tool for that matter) still has it. Epic Epic Epic EPIC!!! Been a Tool fan for a while and i was nervous thinking he wouldn't have the vocals he used to but when they opened up with Third Eye I was blown the ever living fuck away. Legendary!!!!! This sound kinda bad , I have a bunch of live stuff on MP3s that are so good . I got from limewire Ozzest stuff and the tales from the darkside '93 set are the best :-)

at the moment of 46&2 when the drums enters and takes fire, the camera filmed all the others three members exept Danny...WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????????? even they look at him!!!!!
How fvckn good was this version of Maynard!!??!? Holy bajeebuz. And just take a little time to look at young Danny back there going ballistic on his kit. God I love this.
your right,I always thought he snuck up on Maynard.I did read an interview where Maynard was talking about holding the guy down pinned and he really did mention the John Lennon tragedy..I can't tell if Maynard is joking with the guy or if he's really pissed
All these guys have so many different facets, they cant ever look lame ! Adam's videos are so fucking cool it's , ridiculous! As if being a legendary guitarist isnt enough ..Maynard helps with those same vids . They're just on a different level than most anyone in music , at least in my opinion!
was this the last year they played Hush live? I've been trying to find a more recent performance of it but I've had no luck. It's probably a long shot but I'd love to see to see that song live again
It’s a sigil from Eliphas Levi’s book, “The Doctine and Ritual of High Magick.” Something about magnetism and lightning. +Steve Eastridge not sure why he did that, but He was really trying to be a captivating front man in the early days, maybe as the music evolved he felt the band should be spot lighted more.
+Steve Eastridge Agree with all of the above. When I saw Tool live in early 2000 he even stood behind a blank canvas so it was only his silhouette you could see. Still with his rockin dance moves it actually added to the experience. Also seen him naked, dressed (painted) in just body paint and standing in shadows... However I absolutely love his statement of not standing at the front of the stage as he see's all ban members as equal. Its all about what the 4 of them can collectively do together. I love JMK as a person but TOOL as a whole is just un-fucking-believable!!!!!!!
I remember him talking about it on the Joe Rogan Experience, i believe he started to face away from the audience because he got really nauseated from flash photography. I seriously suggest that if you're interested in what Maynard is really like, listen to his appearances on the Joe Rogan Experience, he's been on it twice.
Marc Rivera No, Maynard doesn't wear all of that shit for the benefit of his son. He wears all of that shit because he has a fucking gender complex.....
I wish I had seen Tool back in the early days. I've been a fan since Undertow was released. I've seen them live 5 times since 2004 and Maynard's singing / performance wasn't as good as I've seen pre-2000; that's just my opinion. Of course they're still one of my favorite bands.

My husband isn’t a Tool fan he just walked in and saw this on the tv... shook his head and walked back out...
ahahaha

Exactly what i was thinking hehe
Eighteen years later and still all masterpieces.
This is utter perfection... TOOL at some of its finest...
And Danny Carey brutalized the drums back then just as he does to this very day...

What happened to him between 98-01 where he started to hide behind Danny? I think he was up front during Mer de noms tour too.
He said that the lights can make him seize & convulse so he started standing further back
1. Vertigo
2. Better sound quality, less drums bleeding into the mic
3. It's not the Maynard show. He want the music to be the main focus.
Yeah it fucking blows. Seeing him absolutely in tune with the beats and moving with the music is what I want live. Some drum bleed? Whatever.
Got any supporting reasons? Or...just angry?
