The Mighty Zeppelin - greatest rock band of all time. All four members were virtuosos. And you got the right meaning to "backdoor man," it's a common phrase in blues music referring to cheating when the guy sneaks out the backdoor before the boyfriend/husband gets home!
“Back Door man” does not mean what a lot of people assume. It actually means a lover who enters the house by the back door while the husband goes out by the front door - it’s an old blues phrase. But yeah, great song!
Now, do you understand why we "oldies" just cannot get into the new music of today? We had these guys driving the demons out every time they performed. They played the strongest forced rhythm music there was in that day.

Ladies I watched your reactions to this song, and I smiled that daughter was caught off guard when Robert Plant sing, "I will be your backdoor man" As comment stated, Blues phrase meaning that cheater wife or girlfriend's lover sneaks out from backdoor as their husband/boyfriend gets home. Jimmy Page (guitarist) stated that LZ is more Blues Rock than Hard Rock when band helps pioneered the genre with other bands from UK such as Black Sabbath (Ozzy) and Deep Purple.
Whilst I was waiting for a bus in Epsom, Surrey, England, south of London, Jimmy Page, the lead gitarist, used to walk past me with his guitar on his back. If you wanted to learn how to play the guitar in Epsom, you went to Jimmy. This was back in the late 50's/60's.
"Backdoor man" means he's telling her he wants to be "the other man" in her life sneaking out the backdoor as her husband comes through the front. Old blues line.
On a beautiful night in May of 1969 I rode my motorcycle out from D.C to Meriweather, Maryland to see Led Zeppelin for the very first time. The only time they shared a stage with The Who (that's an amazing story on it's on). We were all blown away!!! I'll remember and cherish that night forever. What a show!!!!!!!
Back door man doesn't mean what you think in this song! A back door man was the guy who snuck in to see the wife while the husband was out - through the back door. It's a common lyric in old blues songs, like a lot of the lyrics in this song are.
Lol. Tis a "sexy love song." I guess Zeppelin did have a roll in the baby boom after all. Check out Since I've Been Loving You, either the live at MSG or studio version are great. But then again, most Zeppelin things are great.
You can never go wrong with Zeppelin, they are just that great. Whatever they touched glittered and turned to gold. They are the rock/cornerstone in which all other bands have built upon. I'm still amazed that after 42 years since their final studio album, and in less than 1year drummer John Bonham would pass away. Most bands would say let's get a new drummer I don't think that crossed their minds at all. I subscribed watching this reaction. This is my favorite all time band. Love their music and the guitar playing of Jimmy Page and the rest of the band.
Loved your reaction, and you both made me laugh.😂 This was released in 1969, but I believe a lot of that video was made in the early 70s. That instrumental interlude is incredible. Of course, another great song is Stairway to Heaven. There is a video from 1973 if that song. Also, Kashmir - there is a 1979 video. Then, there is a version of Stairway to Heaven from 2012 that Heart sings when Led Zeppelin was recognized at the Kennedy Center Honors. My cousin Cindy gave me an 8-track tape for Christmas when I was 13 or 14.
The legendary Led Zeppelin. So many of the people I went to school with in the 70's worshiped their music. During the 1970's, Led Zeppelin were classic rock's most popular band. "Whole Lotta Love" is one of their many classics. Loved both of your reactions. It was fun to listen to baby gap describe the true meaning of the lyrics of the song. For the next Led Zeppelin song to react to, I have a very obvious suggestion. That would be "Stairway To Heaven" It is their signature song and considered a rock masterpiece.
Not to take away from LZ, and I don't think that I am, but when you two get the chance listen to the cover Ocean done by 4 kids with the oldest being 17 yrs old. The cover is done by Ellen, 11 yrs. Led Zep 1 and Led Zep 2 both released in 1969 just 9 months apart. Led Zep 2 was my first Zep album. I would put it on my record player which was old and probably with monoraural sound and run it while I was asleep. Ramble On, Heartbreaker, Lemon Song, Livin Lovin Maid. Still as fresh sounding as they were when I was a rough and tumble 18 year old over 53 years ago.
Robert Plant, Jimmy Paige, John Paul Jones and the late great John Bonham, I saw them perform live at Maple Leaf Gardens Toronto Canada in the early 70's. One of my all time favourite bands

I remember in the summer of '77, Led Zeppelin had 6 sold out performances in Los Angeles. They were a great act to see! The Doors did an entire song with the title, "Back Door Man". But the term goes back much further to old blues singers.

Was always on my turntable, also Tull, Who and Golden Earring, a great dutch band with songs like 'Buddy Joe' or 'Radar Love'. Wanna tellya a lil story. Once I had some friends of mine in my home at least (after partying) and 'Whole Lotta Love' just was over. So I'm a what's to call a die hard Bee Gees fan, the next song was 'Dont Wanna Live Inside Myself'. After this couple of songs, my best friend those days said to me: "Now I'm ready at all. Shakin' my head endlessly, jumpin', drumming with my hands on the table and then, feelin' like divin' in deepest ocean-grounds, lookin' here and lookin' there. Touched by emotions like never before, nearly forgotten to breath". Check it out and beware of overwhelming sadness.
There's another British rock band that is very, very similar in composition to Zep. The Who have a blonde curly haired vocalist with an extremely powerful voice, a lead guitarist who is a master of his trade. A bass playing wizard, who stands there looking like he wants too be elsewhere, and a drumming genius ranked in the top 5 in the world, both of whom died of addiction far too young.
Some suggestiosn of fantastic songs: "Since I've been loving you" from Led Zep III, "Black Dog" and "Stairway To Heaven" from Led Zep IV. Thank you for your very involved listening.

There are no superlatives in the English language that do justice to this band. Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham. The best rock quartet to have ever graced the music scene. This song is now 53 years old and yet stands up to any rock music produced today. To get that in perspective, what was around in 1916? The year that is 53 years prior to this song's production.
