I'm a librarian who just started a D&D club. It's been about 30 years since I last DM'd. Your videos have been an invaluable source of information and inspiration. Thank you!
learning how to play dnd after playing bg3 for so long is so interesting. Inspiration is a real thing and the DM gives it you for just being entertaining lol
eveeryttime i jump back in the game, since 2018 i think idk rememeber, yo how to videos are my favorite resourses every time i need to refresher, im glad you still posting
this is awesome im playing 1990 dragonlance chronical og and playing with 5e rules so thank you i like too think the new version is awesome. you did a great job blanking them i use too watch the og video thank you for the awesome second video!
Nice Nate, good to see you back on top of the basics! This will be helpful for new players and players switching over. I must say that I do not like the new order of the choices, especially with background. You really have to know and understand all the feats before getting started, then pick a background for the one you want, which may mess with other things. I just don't get why they tied that up after freeing things with Tasha's. I'm pretty sure I am going to house rule that feats are not tied to backgrounds.
Hello, Thanks for helping new players learn D&D. You really helped me back in 2022. I dont plan on buying any of the new books because I already spent hundreds on 5.0. Happy Holidays.
Thank you so much for this video, I'm just starting and this is so helpful! I'd really enjoy also following you along while you maybe make a spellcaster and explain that process step for step as well, since creating a character with spells seems really intimidating for me as a newbie 😅
Thanks for the video Nate! I must admit that I am struggling a lot with the 2024 edition character creation - I've had several attempts but always seem to get it wrong! And so, I end up gaming with a half-done character. Your video is very helpful, thanks!
This takes me back to when I first discovered D&D and I was consuming anything I could find on it one of the first things I watched was your character creation and how to play videos
This was really useful Nate. I’m just about to roll up some sheets for some work colleagues and this was really handy to finally understand the ‘why’ of a lot of these elements. “Long time listener , first time caller” (or I guess commenter?) to quote White Lies. Best from Scotland 🏴
I just bought the new Dungeon Master's Guide and Players Handbook because my kids (13, 10, and 7) want to get in to playing. This video has been a fantastic visual guide to help them fill out their character sheets. Thank you for this.
I am just starting my adventures in D&D and this fella is great. You have to check out all the stuff he did years ago too. I have watched so many of the past videos to help me get a grasp on the game and am so thankful that he is posting new videos to help with the 2024 handbook. Thank you for bringing a wholesome interpretation to my future adventures!
No. Your attacks are actions that are written on the character sheet, and you may have some stuff under class abilities, feats, etc. that qualifies as bonus actions or actions. Then there is also a complete list of actions anyone can take in combat in the rulebook and many people have made cheat sheets. To make a whole section just for actions and bonus actions wouldn’t really fit the character too well.
I don't think the ones on 5e tools are made for D&D 2024. Probably for the D&D 2014 version of 5e, but I could be wrong. If they're for 2014 they will not work. Just look for backgrounds that give the same things as the ones in this book (if it has a feat, and ability score books for example), and ALWAYS check with your Dungeon Master if you're going outside the book. Never assume your DM will be okay w/ unofficial content.
I love first page of the the new sheet. Is so easy to read. From the second I saw the new sheet I converted my players to the new sheet. The spell sheet could have been better. It could fill more spells or they could have also add a 3 bullet points for action, bonus action and reaction like they did with Con, ritual and material. I wish they would have put a bullet point before each row so you can mark your prepared spell. Like in the 2014 sheet the background, language , alignment ,appearance is useless. Usually players don't think to much on those things or they need 10 pages for it😂 so this part doesn't fill great for either side. Also I still don't understand why they kept the 5 currency system. It's useless and I just give players gold anyway
Yeah, I pretty much agree w all that. I do think some space for background/personality is helpful for new players - to encourage them to actually think it through.
Hey Nate! Does your character have a proficiency with shortswords? Or does weapon mastery work differently now, and you add the proficiency bonus to all weapons? I am using the “old version”, and it would seem to me that the rogue should have +5 for daggers and shortbows, but only +3 for shortsword. Maybe I missed something? Thanks for your answer in advance. I really like your videos, you make a great job explaining complex things in a calm fashion.
Thanks for the comment! Yes, rogues are proficient with shortswords. They fit into the "martial weapons with the finesse or light property". Weapon MASTERY is something different entirely. It is new in this ruleset and is an extra property on top of proficiency.
Ah, I think there might have been something similar in “Baldur’s Gate 3”, - a character received extra type of attack for some weapons. Thank you for your answer!
Greeting from good old Germany, so sorry my bad english. Did i noticed correctly, that you are in Possesion of thieves tools without the proper tool proficiency?
Book that updates, refines, and adds more features to a 10 year old version, that has more content but costs exactly as much as the 10 year old version, which you’re not even obliged to buy is a “cash grab”? You’re not very bright, are you? 😂
@@daviddawson6150 dude these books update nothing and add nothing new. This is worse than the Multiverse book that just reposted every monster in 5e but with slightly different wording and less features for the monsters. Did they make level 1 and 2 fictional? No, instead all classes get a subclass at level 3 even the ones that actually require your abilities like casting spells at lvl 1... Also your throwing around insults acting as if $50 to $150 is somehow cheap or worth it, for a product with minimum effort. Only thing they are offering with these books arent new content like monsters, races or subclasses but the removal of all that in favor of what? Slightly reworked class features... Which per tasha, they could of just made an expansion book for like they did with ranger... Now whose the one thats not very bright here?
@@daviddawson6150 Interesting that most of the people who don't like what WotC is doing criticise the company, while the people defending WotC throw personal insults at the critics. I'm noticing a trend - the 2024 defenders all seem to be the same. Funny that.

How often do you think you will be uploading these days
I’m currently looking to hire an editor and hopefully that will enable me to upload at least once a month.

Hey Nate! Question, where'd you get the icewind dale shirt? 😃
A company called Obvious Mimic. Just search online. They have some cool ones.
I like the d6 set. Where can I find it?
I think it is the Icewind Dale set. Comes with a nice box and some other stuff too.

Perhaps! I'll keep it mind. Thanks for the suggestion!
only thing i dont understand is why you add prof and modifier bonus to attack bonus on your weapons. I would have thought it should only be mod bonus
That’s just what the rules say. It’s been that way through several variations of DnD over the last couple of decades.
