    Nice Nate, good to see you back on top of the basics! This will be helpful for new players and players switching over. I must say that I do not like the new order of the choices, especially with background. You really have to know and understand all the feats before getting started, then pick a background for the one you want, which may mess with other things. I just don't get why they tied that up after freeing things with Tasha's. I'm pretty sure I am going to house rule that feats are not tied to backgrounds.

    so, the actions and bonus actions are not listed on the character sheet?

    • @WASD20
      @WASD20  11 днів тому

      No. Your attacks are actions that are written on the character sheet, and you may have some stuff under class abilities, feats, etc. that qualifies as bonus actions or actions.
      Then there is also a complete list of actions anyone can take in combat in the rulebook and many people have made cheat sheets.
      To make a whole section just for actions and bonus actions wouldn’t really fit the character too well.

    What if I don’t like the backgrounds? Could I use any found on 5etools? If so how could I use them on my sheet

    • @WASD20
      @WASD20  10 днів тому +1

      I don't think the ones on 5e tools are made for D&D 2024. Probably for the D&D 2014 version of 5e, but I could be wrong. If they're for 2014 they will not work.
      Just look for backgrounds that give the same things as the ones in this book (if it has a feat, and ability score books for example), and ALWAYS check with your Dungeon Master if you're going outside the book. Never assume your DM will be okay w/ unofficial content.

    I love first page of the the new sheet. Is so easy to read. From the second I saw the new sheet I converted my players to the new sheet. The spell sheet could have been better. It could fill more spells or they could have also add a 3 bullet points for action, bonus action and reaction like they did with Con, ritual and material. I wish they would have put a bullet point before each row so you can mark your prepared spell. Like in the 2014 sheet the background,language , alignment ,appearance is useless. Usually players don't think to much on those things or they need 10 pages for it😂 so this part doesn't fill great for either side. Also I still don't understand why they kept the 5 currency system. It's useless and I just give players gold anyway

    • @WASD20
      @WASD20  Місяць тому

      Yeah, I pretty much agree w all that. I do think some space for background/personality is helpful for new players - to encourage them to actually think it through.

    Hey Nate!
    Does your character have a proficiency with shortswords? Or does weapon mastery work differently now, and you add the proficiency bonus to all weapons?
    I am using the “old version”, and it would seem to me that the rogue should have +5 for daggers and shortbows, but only +3 for shortsword. Maybe I missed something?
    Thanks for your answer in advance.
    I really like your videos, you make a great job explaining complex things in a calm fashion.

    • @WASD20
      @WASD20  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the comment!
      Yes, rogues are proficient with shortswords. They fit into the "martial weapons with the finesse or light property".
      Weapon MASTERY is something different entirely. It is new in this ruleset and is an extra property on top of proficiency.

    • @Eclyocy
      @Eclyocy 2 місяці тому +1

      Ah, I think there might have been something similar in “Baldur’s Gate 3”, - a character received extra type of attack for some weapons.

      Book that updates, refines, and adds more features to a 10 year old version, that has more content but costs exactly as much as the 10 year old version, which you’re not even obliged to buy is a “cash grab”? You’re not very bright, are you? 😂

    • @kingwildcat6192000
      @kingwildcat6192000 2 місяці тому +7

      @@daviddawson6150 dude these books update nothing and add nothing new. This is worse than the Multiverse book that just reposted every monster in 5e but with slightly different wording and less features for the monsters. Did they make level 1 and 2 fictional? No, instead all classes get a subclass at level 3 even the ones that actually require your abilities like casting spells at lvl 1... Also your throwing around insults acting as if $50 to $150 is somehow cheap or worth it, for a product with minimum effort. Only thing they are offering with these books arent new content like monsters, races or subclasses but the removal of all that in favor of what? Slightly reworked class features... Which per tasha, they could of just made an expansion book for like they did with ranger... Now whose the one thats not very bright here?

      @@daviddawson6150 Interesting that most of the people who don't like what WotC is doing criticise the company, while the people defending WotC throw personal insults at the critics. I'm noticing a trend - the 2024 defenders all seem to be the same. Funny that.

    • @xMrMayhemx
      @xMrMayhemx 2 місяці тому

      @@daviddawson6150i think you're not the brightest for saying or even thinking that. either you didn't read either of those books or you're trolling. the books are literally 90% reprint with added homebrew they didn't create themselves but the community used for years now.
      bastions? had that in my game.
      weapon masteries? seen that.
      moving ability increases away from class? mechanically they did that in thasha's already.
      new actions? who even needed or wanted that?
      exhaustion rework? hopefully nobody played that rule as written in the first place.
      in addition to not bringing anything new to the table they broke more rules and systems than they fixed and added. they made old content work worse than before, f**ked over dnd beyond big time to the point it's borderline unuasable, dark patterns, bait and switch and other sketchy business practices every other week, it's way too pricy already while it doesn't need to be since it's more popular than ever before. they were impudent enough to force a version change when nobody asked for it. they say it's backwards compatible while it's not and make every DMs job to keep their players from breaking the game 10x harder.
      the main problem with the 2024 edition is the fact that it's not a version change. it's a big update but nothing we never saw before. it's just 5e with some additions but you gotta pay again for the same rules. does that sound fair? ofc not! look at dnd beyond. look at the changes. you can't honestly think they did a good job, it's an ok price for the work they did and that the version change is good for the game. wtf? don't you see how most people are rightfully against this and that you're among the minority here.
      and also: yes you are obliged to buy the cash grab if you want to use dnd beyond, use future content or play future official adventures.
      there's exactly one scenario in which you'd think this is good: you never owned any copy of the 2014 rules or any adventure, you bought the 2024 edition to have one in which case it's actually good value... but if you previously owned anything it's just a low effort cash grab and everyone sees it as that except you appearantly. so either you're trolling or the text book definition of the dunning-kruger effect.
