Back when actors and actresses had class. I can't watch award shows today as it has become toxic. So I will happily enjoy these old clips to satisfy my fix.
I don't watch these award shows either. Really not much on TV anymore to watch.
I totally agree.
Oh if you saw the 2022 Oscars then you'd know how truly bad they've gotten lol.
I wrote Ellen to ask for her autograph and she signed an old tv guide with her and the family on the cover. She was so kind and gracious.
Ms. Ellen was one of the nicest people ever to walk this earth. She and my grandmother we close friends and I was around her many times. Never an unkind word about anyone.
That's great to hear!
She knew how to play Grandma Walton. Well deserved Emmy's for both of them!! They added to that show immensely.
@@m.e.d.7997 The Show wasn't the same without them....
That's unbelievably awesome!! I am constantly quoting Grandma Walton, when she would say "Oh good Lord!"
Her voice broke when she spoke of her "family" at the table! 🙏🏻✝️🤗
Both of them were great actors. The Waltons was one of my favorite shows to watch growing up. The show actually taught you values with integrity on how to raise your family.
Yes they were. I loved watching the Walton’s. They’re true stories about them.
They were great actors.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo deserving, both of them. I just love these two actors. Thank you for all the wonderful television memories.
I agree
They were my favorite Walton characters!
agreed, although I would add Ralph Waite to the triumvirate
Yes
John Boy was my favorite!
I, do like them to, however, there are hidden nasty information about these two that tarnishes their reputations though. If your curious, best to look at both seperarately in Wikipedia, and you will find out what they truly are.
alan murr 😏😏😏
Wow, such love, respect and decency! You don't see that much anymore!
Lots of people have those qualities.
@@Michelle-pn9xt Not seeing a lot of that today...
@@grocerygoat06 Meet new people. Make more friends. You will begin to see that.
God I miss the 70 's
It was a wonderful era in time...
Brooke Hanley the best of all
Go through the Time Tunnel and go back 😁!
I don't miss the ugly, idiotic clothes you had to wear! And the guys with the stupid looking girly haircuts with sideburns. 😆
I never imagined back in the 70's, that I was witnessing, the last classiest most talented group of Actors in T.V. and Movie History! If I had known then, how good it really was, I would have appreciated it so much more than I did! It was the norm then, little did we all know, that we were witnessing the end of an Era!
Sad but true 😞
Agreed.
Oh Yes, I love the waltons! oh my.. I just discovered this show 3 months ago and i watc them 5 days a week. Showing @ CTV canada :) Love them!!!
Every single generation on earth since time began has said the same thing. Sorry, but television is absolutely in its golden age now. Waltons was great but most of what was on television in those days was garbage.
@@TheGenXer Garbage is what I would describe what is on now for the most part.
Both, just the best - they gave us all so much happiness.
I I wished shows like The waltons would come back on there is nothing decent to watch anymore.
Still do - and little house on the Pairie too. Amen 🙏
Joseph Stanski still do !!!!!!!
Mrs.leash who sold barney the. Clunker $300 dollars to the sucker of the world.
@Steel Magnolia yea lol.
Wow, seeing Grandma and Grandpa Walton up on a stage excepting the Emmy Award is really something...
They're both were very hard working and gentle spirits. You can see that in both candor.. Will Geer played in Eight is Enough as well at the same time as the he played in the Walton's.. If anyone has seen the Homecoming, before the series of the Walton's the Grandfather was played by someone totally different.. I am glad when they made the series that they picked Will Geer for the Grandfather.. He fit the part to a tee as well as Ellen Corby.. The Walton's series wasn't the same without the Grandfather Will Geer...
whyputaname Yes, it was nice that they Accepted their awards together!
Yes. The famous Edgar Bergen, ventriloquist, (Charlie McCarthy), and father of Candace Bergen (Murphy Brown), portrayed Grandpa in "The Homecoming". He did great, but Will Geer immortalized Grandpa Zeb Walton. I loved he, and the beautiful Ellen Corby. They are truly missed.
You are so right.
Well deserved. I loved that they showed up for the event.
@@pamh.5705 They added a lot to the Waltons.
Well deserved. I’m watching The Waltons reruns today because tv today is total
Trash. Thank God for MeTV!
I've been watching a lot of the Waltons lately, it's a good escape!
And VisionTV!
🤣
you must be 90 or older we dont want you watching new stuff
Get IMBD TV. Free and they have all the episodes uncut...
WOW!!! So glad to see they won awards for this wonderful show "The Waltons" Grandma and Grandpa 👏🏆🏆💞
May they rest in peace 🙏💔
I will love this show for all enduring time.
Been binge watching The Waltons during coronavirus ~ I just want to go back to those times ~ Grandpa was my favorite!
same here
Hallelujah!🥁
These two were quintessential character actors who's credits are of astounding variety of genres in radio, stage, cinema and television. They worked in comedy, westerns, scifi, mysteries, melodrama, even classical roles and musicals in Geer's case. Most of us would never have bothered to look at the credits to find out who was playing that old curmudgeon, that gossipy neighbor, or that wily old fox, or that obstinate nurse. But character actors like these two, flesh out and enrich countless scenes and bring life to the most cliched dialogue. Never ever underestimate the veteran character actor. More often than not, they are putting in the best performances in any production! The least we can do to repay them, is wait for that credit listing, and find out who sparkled and stole the scene, if only for a half dozen lines.
ah grandma and grandpa! love the waltons!
I adore them. Best show ever.
Lovely. The awards are usually given separately, so nice coordinating the two actors received theirs together since grandma & grandpa were a package deal :-)
Treasures both of them!! Such wonderful actors and better human beings!!❤️
My favorite characters on The Waltons, These two were legendary performers.
Will Geer is an inspiration to us all where it's never too late for a major comeback of redemption! His children said that the best 10 years of his life were the last 10 years of his life. God, can we all have that blessing! Also, Ellen Corby was a superstar too and I am very happy for her success! very well deserved!
redemption meaning?.... i know he was openly bi sexual but did have children too.
@@Elle_55 he was black listed from helly wood for political views, until Walton’s.
The waltons love it so much watch it even today 😍🥰
love watching the Waltons everyday
This is from a time when it was time well spent watching the Emmy awards. I miss those days. Love watching The Waltons in reruns. The whole series was excellent. Great memories.
Loved them both! She played Luther's grade school teacher in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken"
Oh yes! Neva Tremaine!!! I hoped I helped you Luther!
Remember she played the lady in Its A Wonderful Life $17.50
Ellen Corby played a young nun in
original "Angels In The Outfield".
She was in a lot of shows. A very good character actress.
I don't think Ellen Corby ever was an unemployed actress - and even after her stroke she came back. Amazing career.
And was in I Remember Mama
Kathy Florcruz yes
60 years old, and just 1 minute of anything Walton's and I'm blubbering. Nothing, absolutely nothing comes close to this show!
Correct your grammar.
@@caseyjeter9957 correct it for me, if you are so educated 🤣
Greatest actors who ever graced TV with their presence
Return the Emmys to this. Dinner and award shows always seem better.
Gone With The Wind.
Seeing Ellen briefly embrace Lucille ball, and Lucy clapping so enthusiastically for her, I remembered that Ellen had guest-starred numerous times on both "I Love Lucy" and "The Lucy Show", so they were probably well-acquainted with one-another.
I remembered her appearance on "I Love Lucy" but had forgotten she had appeared several times on "The Lucy Show." Lucy was rather picky about her supporting players and would only invite someone back if she respected their talent and work ethic. So she obviously thought highly of Ellen Corby.
I remember seeing Ellen Corby on many shows on TV as I grew up in the early days of TV during the 50's and 60's. I didn't like her character on the Waltons tho. She was so negative. But I realize that that was not her fault.
Great Comment!!! I agree!
@@MrVidaeverdade With good reason..!!!!
@@alanmurr6562 Actually, she represented so many people.!
Loved them both so much...everything I saw Will Geer was in...The Waltons of course...Jeremiah Johnson...etc...they were both adored by me!!
I love them both! Best actors ever!
This is when I enjoyed watching actors give each other awards. Now, it just doesn't thrill me or make much difference.
These two are so missed I loved both of them dearly they were super cute together and so down to earth so nice that they both won that award they deserved it and how kind that Mr will geer dedicated his to the little school house on Walton's mountain they have both got a better reward up in heaven now together r.i.p grandma and grandpa walton
Oh look, REAL ENTERTAINERS unlike today’s crap!!!
Ellen looked very nice in this clip. congrats for winning back in 1975.
Wow, just imagine seeing two actors like these back then walking up on stage!
Richard Thomas was so young there!!! and over the moon thrilled for Ellen and Will!!!!!! Best show ever!!!
Ellen Corby was a wonderful part of the Walton's. I heard that she had a stroke, but she still went on playing Grandma and did a really great job!
She was off the show for awhile after the stroke (a year maybe?), and then returned. I seem to recall, though, that she did not appear regularly if at all in the final years, although she did appear in at least one of those Walton reunion movies in the '90s. I think she was there for the last Waltons movie they made.
She returned for the final episode of the 1977-78 season (it would turn out to be Will Geer''s last episode), and then was billed as a regular during the following season (though only appeared in maybe half the season's episodes), then dropping to recurring for the final couple of seasons. She was actually in five of the six "Waltons" reunion movies during the1980s and '90s.
I don't get that. If this show was based on real life; how come they didn't get another actor to play grandpa when Will Geer died? and if Ellen Corby had a stroke but the real Grandma was fine, why would they have dropped her to recurring?
I like so many people MISSED her in her youth. After her stroke she was 66 but she looked 88. She hang around for the 1978 season of The Waltons. I didn't miss her during the last two seasons, but I heard she lived many years after that awful stroke, like about 20 more years I think. Why does God torture people with strokes? If not for Will Geer (the Grandfather married to Corby in the show) Corby would have died a horrible death on the floor in her own apartment. Will Geer noticed she wasn't at work and that was not like Ellen Corby so he went to her apartment and found her helpless on the floor after a stroke. If not for him she would have died there on her own apartment floor from a lack of water. A few weeks later in April 1978 Will Geer at the age of 76 couldn't breath normally and died of resp failure. It's strange how that kind of disorder can creep up on you and kill you so suddenly. He looked so healthy during the tapping of the shows in Jan, Feb and March 1978 He died in April 1978. I heard many friends and family was at his house and they were all singing songs like the songs Will liked like this is your land this land is my land etc. He died of resp failure. Seems like a horrible way to die. A little pill and he could have went to sleep and died without any horror. Doctor assisted suicide is finally available in Canada now.
Yes she had a stroke on set and was out for a year and a half it was during the filming of a show by the name of The Ferris wheel and She came back in Grandma Comes Home which as it turned out was Will Geer's last performance
Will geer was born and stuff in my town and we have mural of him painted on the side of one of our buildings haha my gma met him and said he use to come to the theatre when his movies would play to meet his fans from here. She said he was a very nice guy
Born and STUFF ...???
Frankfort, Indiana. I live about 17 miles away.
I absolutely LOVE this!!! ❤️ It made tear up.
I am 60 years old I grew up watching the Waltons I still watch the Waltons to they don’t make shows like that anymore sadly
god bless these two they have gone on to Glory .
both gay in real life... grandpa was openly bi sexual
They had a great friendship on and off screen
In those days, I was a kid and Mom decided what was on the color TV. I watched some Waltons episodes with her, even though I didn't really appreciate just how good that show was!
John boy was well put together with parents and grandparents pouring into his life extended family is well needed today
Ellen and Will were America’ favorite grandparents, they played off each other so well I think many many of us thought they were really a couple ❤❤
Never watched this. But I loved that these actors showed up! So many cops out. These were true actors worthy of their craft and deserved their awards.
That was one of the most considerate and generous things I ever seen done..
Will was alright..
Aww..they are so sweet together. Love the Waltons.
These are wonderful actors and a great show. I appreciate it more now than I did then. It was a chance to show many people that did not have a loving family what a family was and is. There are no examples on tv today of it that I know of. Yes there really were wonderful hard working, moral, Jesus loving people like that and there still is but you have to look hard for them. They did not have much but they had enough of all the right things. God bless the USA.
Miss them both.
Geer's white ensemble makes him look like Mark Twain's grandfather! Geer was one of many actors who faced the pernicious poison of the HUAC hunters in the 1950s. So glad he was recognized for his contribution to The Waltons. Ellen Corby had a long and distinguished career. Most remember her from " It's a Wonderful Life " when she asked, during the run on the bank, " Can I have seventeen fifty? "
"The Black List" haunted those poor people forever, I wonder if that is why some in the audience are not applauding?
The first time most of us saw Ellen was in 1946 as the widow during the run on the bank scene in "It's A Wonderful Life"...Jimmy Stewart kisses her for withdrawing only $20. She was a wonderful comedic character actor.
She was also nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award for "I Remember Mama" in 1948 ...
She was Humphrey Bogart's office head secretary in Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn in 1954
Not $20.00, but $17.50 that she requested.
@@7karlheinz Right!
@@shellypanfil4122 I hear she was fantastic in that. I must watch the movie in its entirety.
Richard Thomas is sooooooooooooooooo proud.
I grew up with the waltons and i just love grandma and grandpa. They are the best
Just loved them both and every movie I’ve ever seen with them in the casts.
I so miss great family programs like this one.. The good ol days..lol
I love you both so very much ♥️ From a avid fan of the Waltons 🙂
I'm glad they won. Long overdue and well deserved. WILL GEER (1902-1978) and ELLEN CORBY (1911-1999).
Both were born when New Mexico and Arizona were still territories--When Mr. Geer was born, Oklahoma was still known as Indian Territory.
They were among the greats saw a lot of the movies they were in throughout the years so deserved their Oscars awards ☺
Ellen Corby played a tiny roll in "It's a wonderful Life" but in a sense it was a big one. When George Bailey was trying to save the "The Savings and Loan",
the character Ellen Corby asks if she can have just 17.50 and George Bailey kisses her out of gratitude.
Well deserved wins and classy Emmys..... not like today!
Ellen Corby must have worn a.grey wig in the Waltons series seeing how it has some color here.
Glad to see Carol Burnett presenting their awards to them. Will Geer and Ellen Corby were the best as the grandparents on the Waltons.
We love that show
Back when award shows had class, their garbage now.
We lived in the best of times.
Amen
No one watches them now. No one cares about tv anymore. It's just something glance at while you're on the phone or computer.
Brooke Hanley yes on Walton mountain
Surfs Up I watch them regularly!! I have the complete series 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 so good . No cable - 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Does anyone else remember Will Geer as Santa on Eight is Enough?
Today's actors need to take a lesson from these two, and all the actors of the past. Used to, you could watch an award show with your children, or grandparents, and everyone enjoyed it. Now, they are full of vulgarity, agenda, and political rants.
Yep - life as we know it has CHANGED 😞
You're exactly right Tammy! Well they're not on now because I believe that God has allowed this Pandemic for a reason.
Jules Servant of Jesus I agree-- Daniel 10:1-12
Wow can we have some of this class today!
If we wanna watch something political we watch political not award show whatever tape awards shows it suppose to be let it be about that if people don't President we have now that ok it also ok if you do like him just don't bring up that woman right or anything
Wonderful! I am playing "catch-up" with "The Waltons!"
Love this clip, there seems to be a genuine affection between them. Still love the show after all these years. Very sad that there are some negative comments on here regarding Ellen and Will being gay. So what is the big deal? They both seemed like nice people and were terrific in the programme.
Tina Hardman if he was gay his wife and kids covered it well
Will Geer was bisexual. He was married, had a family, but later on began a relationship with another actor. (Can’t recall his name). Of course Hollywood kept it a secret, everyone knew.
Yep. Will's biggest flaw was that he was a communist, not that he was bisexual.
Thomas, you would do well to leave such heady concepts to the book reading set.
My favorite episode of Gomer Pyle was the 'Marine Bandit'. Ellen Corby and another actress played mother and daughter villains, who conned Gomer into unknowingly robbing liquor stores for them. It was hilarious.
Jon B, she also played a con-artist/crook on “The Andy Griffith Show.”
They look so young there, I love the way she sprinted up the stairs.
Strange how back in the 1970's the Happy Days Fonz and Hard Rock Music was the only thing cool about the decade. Now at my old age the Waltons proved me wrong and it was really shows like theirs that were and still are the coolest and classiest. God has a sense of humour. When we get older He humbles us and teaches us most serious important value lessons that matter most about life.
hauntingly makes me feel old at 53. Remember these days being very young.
In my opinion I believe Richard Thomas was one of the nicest persons to ever walk the earth
They would be amazed the longevity of The Waltons.
check out olivia walton dragging on a cigarette!! love it.
Lol, yeah, I was taken by surprise about that myself
Loved them sooo much!
Well deserved by both of these fine actors
This is sweet :) thanks for posting.
Ellen Corby and Will Geer has great acting in The Waltons: Season 3.
Well deserved! Both are wonderful on the waltons!
They truly look like husband and wife. The Walton’s was a wonderful family.
Great Video George
What struck me was how spry Will Geer was grabbing Ellen Corby by the hand and the two navigating those stairs like a couple of 20 year olds.
Love these two. Love The Walton's.
So Pure! ❤
It;s a very sweet and poignant moment in history, they are good people.
Mother Walton smoking @1:18! There goes that goodie good image! lol
The best
I loved them
I miss those days!
I love them both
Total respect for both of them 💜
The only person not to win an Emmy was Ralph Waite. He was robbed.
It’s funny I just watch the clip with her on the Johnny Carson show and she had this very same outfit on. I mean what are the chances?! Pretty outfit it just caught me off guard when I happen to notice that.
