  • Today we see what a cheap tool (not a pressure gauge) can do get your tire (tyre) pressures spot on every time. Works for wide tires, low profile tires, stretched tires, negative camber, towing, high loads, fast driving, slow driving and more. Watch and find out! Extend your tire life. Improve your car's grip. Improve handling. Stop tire overheating. Avoid under-inflaton. Avoid over-inflation. How to set the correct tire pressure for your car and driving.

    Excellent suggestion to finely tune tire pressure on any car.

    I never thought of this before. I was one of those just following the instructions on the plaque. I already have a gun thermometer so one of these days I will check it oot. Thanks for giving us ideas to improve the car.

      Hi, if you do regular driving with standard tires and a stock setup then the standard information is perfectly okay - but as soon as you change something...

      @@StevenBTuner yep, I am quite an standard driver on good roads, the older the more standard, but I am intrigued now with your video. Let's see how it goes. I will report back. Thanks

    Have you tried the method used in this video, or even heard of it before? How do you usually work out the best tire pressure for your driving? let me know!

      Buying a thermal imaging camera as we speak because of your video! Nice insight!
      220x160 IR sensor or better I'd recommend. Don't buy Fluke, Flir, or the ones that plug into the phone.

      Wondering why you don't take the camber of the rear tires into account when measuring the temperature? It seems like the initial temp reading you took for the rear tires was off because of the camber you have on the back wheels. The center and outer temps were very close but the inner tread was hot due to the added pressure exerted on the tire from the camber of the wheels/suspension. Thoughts?

      @@Sovereignrich Hi, thanks for watching! Camber is a fact of life for pretty much every tire now which causes the inside edge of the tire to be a bit hotter, and the outside edge to be a bit cooler. This method is all about getting the temperature of the center of the tire to be exactly in between those inside and outside temps, so that the pressure and grip across the tire is as even as it can be, for the driving that you do.

    Thanks for the video. I began to include this method into my tire pressure adjustment. I combine the thermometer measurement, tire height (from the ground to the top of tire) for left/right balance (front/back heights are mostly different, and it's ok), visual check for contact patches by photographing at ground level. Results for my case (Volvo V60 CC 2020, winter time) are FL 41.5, FR 40.0, RL 36.0, RR 36.5.

    Great video! I use this method in sim racing but check the inner, middle and outer tyre temps to see if I need to adjust the camber so the tyre is making full contact.
    With road cars how can we find our optimum tyre temps for the road ?

    • @StevenBTuner
      @StevenBTuner  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! Road driving is a lot different because very few of us are going to get our tyres up to optimal temperatures that often, even if we knew what they were. Hmm, having said that, I definitely can feel when my Michelin PS4s go from 'too cold and squirmy' to 'good to go and grippy', so I'll have to have a look at the temps when that happens - but I bet it is more like 40 degrees Celcius rather than 80. Not many of us adjust camber each time we drive, so this video is more about getting the best contact and wear life out of the setup that we have on our cars all of the time.

    Make sure you have a tyre gauge that is accurate, I adjust my tyres with a unit similar to yours Steven, however I then check the tyre pressure with a known accurate digital gauge.................also always check your tyre pressures with cold tyres........................you could always put a camber kit in the rear of your car to get those temps a little more even too.

      Hi, you have a raised an excellent point that I didn't cover in the vid - I will have to do an updated version! Once the optimum pressures have been determined in the normal conditions, they need to be recorded again once the tires have cooled down - so that the numbers are useful for future use.

    I just got a bigger tire for my Jeep Patriot - 235/65/17 - stock size was 215/65/17 - recommended psi for that size was 32 PSI , what do you do think I should inflate my new tires to?

    • @StevenBTuner
      @StevenBTuner  3 роки тому

      Hi, thanks for watching! Once you change things from standard, the recommended pressures are not going to work as well. The best tire pressure to use is the one you discover by using the technique in the video - it doesnt take long to take the readings a couple of times in order to home in on the perfect settings.

    • @markfitzgerald7556
      @markfitzgerald7556 2 роки тому

      Start by adding 10% so add 3.2psi to 32psi to get 35.2psi
