Wade Made Motorized Mayhem: Homemade front wheel Friction drive motorized bicycle

- This is a front wheel friction drive motorized bicycle made by John Wade of Louisville, Kentucky. This is his 17th bike in his collection of motorized bikes. This bike was constructed out of all recycled materials and lots of homemade DIY engineering. The motor hinges via a hand controlled lever similar to a twist grip throttle. It is truly one of a kind and is very unique even though it is made with a newer bike and engine. With enough thought, time, and scrap anything is possible.
I’ve seen this guy weld and it’s poetry in motion. He can damn near lick a piece of metal and tell you what the composition of it is lol
That's old school I remember in the 70's diy I spread the rear end of a coaster bike and bolted it to a self propelled lawn mower made a riding lawn mower when I was 15 my Father was proud of me
... очередная ерунда!!!
Nice man I built a similar bike with a 3hp briggs and stratton motor over the back wheel.
I dig the Clutch system you've come up with!!! GREAT JOB Sir!!...i've been building various small engine bikes, etc. since I was knee high to a grasshopper!!.---I put a pivot clutch on a rear wheeled chopper bike not long ago...i build them now, Well...for me!!lol....no, but for my 11&14 yr old nephews...but, I use ''weedwacker'' engines..cause a guy was going out of business and i bought like 30 for $160.....with some being in like new condition....and they'll push, or pull a bike along at about 30Km\hr...ish?? some a bit more...some less......But, as you know the weight of the ''load'' being carried is a major factor for speed....anyway, I'm gonna ''SUB'' you...if you watch some of the videos my nephews and i made up......i'd appreciate a like and a sub if you feel so inclined to....best wishes......and SAFE RIDING!!!!
How cool is it when us fellas get together and talk motors! Now I was lost right after hello... I do want to ask you and all the motor heads here which is better front or rear wheel drive? Is it just personal preference? You are my newest hero! Thanks!
Damn bud I like that ideal can I buy a kit from you just the whole clutch and motor mount setup,I’m a poor white boy but I’ll get some money together enough for to people me and my wife’s bicycle we have a 20 in bike using a weed eater motor
You're cleverest 😃😃 good job
This is pretty awesome. I love gas bikes I have since I was 8 years old and saw an older boy flying down the road by my grandparents house my sad always promised to build me one but never got around to it, I’m buying a 49cc 4 stroke just like the ones you build, I honestly bought it because it’s low maintenance but it’ll get me to work
My bikes coming tomorrow
The proper way to find my videos on my 23 motorized bicycles is at. @johnwade5747
I caught 2 of my own mistakes. (1) the short cast iron b&s's are 5-S, the tall ones are 6-S. I Was calling them 7-s. (No such thing). And (2) the clinton has 2 separate cams .I think the lauson that resembles the clinton is the one with only one cam lobe for both valves. (My brain is burnt!)😱😵
Is there a performance difference with the motor on the front vs the back?
I like those old engines.
I think I describe the Clinton in the lost and backward! One of them has a single lobe that works two canted tappets and the other has individual lobes but that’s been a lot of years ago since I had them apart.
Awesome..pure awsome
Wow very cool 👍
The "Rat Rod" of motorized bikes. You just need some Big Daddy Ed Roth Rat Fink paint on it. :-)
Sir I've got a very similar setup, but with a 79cc predator motor. The engine you have there is a 2.5hp greyhound ( the old predator). They are almost the same motor, as I used to have one.
I've got a piece of 2" gas pipe for a spindle (around 2 1/4" od). I modified my motor with a header, 19mm carb, advanced the timing, port and polished head, milled .040 over for more compression, modified the rocker arms for more lift, upgraded valve springs and pulled the governor. It will rev to around 7k rpm and makes a bit more power. Everything was homemade/modified besides the 19mm carb
Just by removing the governor on that, adding a homemade header, and drilling the carb jet, you'd make a good amount more power, enabling you to run a bigger spindle, giving you more top speed without sacrificing too much low end torque.
I've reached 42mph top speed with a very similar setup, and it will go up hills. I used electric hanger brackets with flatbar welded to make the hinge, I use a spring for tension, and a kickstand welded to the handlebars for a clutch that runs a chain to the engine to pivot.
Your setup is great and very inspiring! Great way to cruise around. I have a milk crate on the back of mine, and run uber eats as a side hustle here in philadelphia
Whaaaat!!! That’s awesome!
