Time to find some new mechanics/technicians then! Real, trained and experienced technicians do this kind of thing daily and this is a really common work-flow for A/C problems. :)
I just ordered a ‘98 Sambar from Japan. I’m definitely many months out but I know it’s ac isn’t blowing cold. So this video is going to come in handy. Love your channel
Update: blowing out dust was good. However compressor clutch went out. I replaced with a compressor from ECC auto out of Tampa Florida. Cleaning entire duct system and ridding the system of outside air vent . Made a world of difference in "New Car" smell. The compressor puts out more BTU than stock and life is good again. I have photos of how to. If interested or in need to yourself or anyone in need.
I found with my suburu Sambar it was dust on the thermistor and coils. There were no leaks. I blew off what I could and the fan went back to having 3 speeds and the A/C was blowing as cold as needed in Alabama heat of summer cab was cool. Two years later, it is starting same old trick. The problem is going to be ongoing. As I cannot get to the coils to really clean them. Plus no one in A/C buisness knows either.
just have my ac refilled last week. had no idea if it works or not, previous owner never tried to refill it. I was thinking that there is no chance, but it passed the vacuum test, so we filled it with coolant and it got back to work.
Used to do some recharging "way back in the old days" in the 70's with R12. Couple of crappy gauges and a few cans of R12...what I and my dad would have given to have a machine like that to help out. With today's systems, I'm sure I'll never do it myself but it was very interesting to watch! Thanks!
I'm having trouble finding solid data for a customer's 1996 Sambar. Carbureted, normally aspirated, manual trans, and no labelling for the charge value! Charge value and a solid electrical diagram for the A/C would be a lifesaver. I do have the yellow-covered "Subaru Sambar English Factory Service Manual" by James L. Danko, but there is little to no mention of A/C *anything* anywhere in it, and certainly no electrical diagram for it!
When rechecking the ac system after running it for the week, make sure and look at the ac drain hose for uv dye. U can sometimes tell if the evaporator is leaking.
Have you ever tried pressure testing with nitrogen and using a listener? Its really fast and reliable. I never liked the sniffers, too many false reading on the ones I used. You make great videos man, God bless
Hi I am from Sri Lanka. I need your help please help me if possible. subaru kv4 1998. hard to find obd location to check obd on my car. Is this vehicle class not obd2? In our country, these vehicles are less in number.
The issue I’m having with my Sambar is that the AC/heater fan is not blowing at all. I assume this is either an issue with the switch or the blower fan. The blower fan is located under the dash and I am attempting to pull it off but I’m running into some issues. Could I get some guidance?
Do you know what the oil capacity is and which density of pag oil? I do not see an AC section in the manual that has been translated to English. I had a compressor grenade and throw trash throughout the system. I pumped near three gallons of solvent until the lines were no longer spewing black. Mine was an R12 system but will be putting in R134a when refilling, and the used compressor I sourced has 134a on the label.
First vid I seen of yours lifting up the Sambar's skirt. Tell us there's another access point for service? I'm half jealous the sniffer tool sounds like asteroids when it hits. If you want to throw out that Bluepoint temp gauge, my aging eyes will thank you.
Just bought a sambar KS4, should be delivered tomorrow, what I do not understand is that although it was built for domestic use in Japan all the lettering on the exterior except the max weight rating on the rear is in English. Why? Is it a fad, like young Americans getting Kanji character tattoos?
I’ve worked on about five Subarus and every time I open the Schrader valve on the low side I hear that noise so they must all leak a little bit I wonder if the plastic cap helps it from leaking?
Where's part 2?
We don't have mechanics that take the time to do such thorough diagnosis anymore like you just did. Thank you.

Nylog is your friend with AC systems.

was there ever a part 2 to this video?

Do you know where I can buy an air conditioner coil for a 1994 Subaru sambar dias
Looks like you already found the leak! Nice job!
Mr Subaru why does my 08 H6 3.0r over heat with ac on? Thanks

you can put soopy water on the low side connector and see if bubbles are form. That will indicate a leak !

No OBD2 system in these Kei trucks
The supercharged/ fuel injected models do.
Yep under the dash plug in the two green connectors and it will flash codes

I’ve never seen a sight glass like that before. Did you add that or did it come with it?
It's factory. Older cars used to have them more commonly.

I have plenty of others. Timing belt/water pump job, valve adjustment, etc on the Sambars.

OEM parts=OEM stickers a must have in the Kei Truck community.
Do you happen to have the part number for the ac/ alternator belt? I got sold one with the wrong belt
Did I see another sambar in the background?
his old one that's for sale? if you live up north, it's a good one (no AC)

Sambar video, excellent. Wait, what is that white small subaru in the background, hiding something from us?
gosh.... AC work seems so unappealing. I rather leave it to the pros which i give mad respect to for doing that
