  • Chris Arpin demonstrates how to apply Createx fluorescent colors over a color-keyed base color for improved coverage and to hide the eventual fading of the fluorescent color.
    Createx recommends applying fluorescent colors over a color-keyed AutoBorne Sealer for any exterior paint-job such as a helmet or watercraft.

    I enjoy watching all the instructional videos. I use Createx almost exclusively. It is going to be used on my new Desert Race Truck build debuting this year. I got confused watching the video though. You sectioned the panel, section 1 was AB White Sealer, section 2 was AB Orange sealer, section 3 was unknown Orange. A question or two. What was the base (ground) coat of section 3? The assumption is AB Orange sealer, but that wasn’t really clarified. An assumption could also be it was the original panel color prepped to paint over without a primer. Which Leads be to the second question... primer coats. Was the panel primer coated before hand, if so, what primer type and color did you use? In today’s industry there are many primer types and colors to choose from, which is a good thing because getting a primer color that is close in “shade” value to the base color helps tremendously in terms of seeing the true color of the base. In days of old, we had red primer and grey primer. Grey was used on lighter colored base coats and red on the mid to darker base coats. Primer color does play a role in the final shade value of the base coat, unless of course you over apply numerous base layers, which isn’t really a good idea. These questions may not have been directly relevant to the tip/technique you were showing, but in an indirect way those questions came to mind because all painters do things a bit differently that works for them, and is knowledge that another painter never considered and may add another tool in the ole knowledge tool box. Great video, I keep watching them over and over. And yes, that is a cool shirt as another commenter pointed out... like to get one myself!

      The entire hood was primed with AutoBorne 6001 Sealer White, with the left 1/3 masked up. Then 6005 Sealer Orange was applied to the middle section, and over the right 1/3 section was a mix of 6005 Sealer Orange 1:1 W027 Wicked Fluorescent Orange. A mid-coat of W027 Fluorescent Orange was then applied over the entire hood, demonstrating the difference in value created by the underlying sealer hues. Thank you.

    Really good stuff.. I have actually thought on several occasions ”Man, wouldn't it be great if I could tint my sealer with AA instead”.. Done it once, but will probably do it again now that I’ve seen this. At least in those annoying moments when I am out of AB sealer.. Which seems to be just about always 😂

    When you talk about the florescents fading what kind of time period are you talking on a vehicle outdoors full time? Thank you for all the information in these great videos

      All fluorescent / neon colors, water-based and solvent-based, fade due to exposure to direct light. Exactly how long before color loss is noticeable varies greatly due to factors such as the intensity and duration of light exposure, the amount of fluorescent material applied (i.e. an extra coat or two will help prolong color life), use of UV blocking clears and more. Fluorescent colors are commonly used as for helmets, watercraft, bikes and other automotive (base-coat / clear-coat) applications. The use of a color-keyed sealer as the ground coat will help prolong the color life. Thank you.

      CreatexColorsCo I had the same question. I’ve just recently started painting helmets and have been hesitant to use any fluorescent colors because I was concerned with them being labeled as non-lightfast.
      I really appreciate this series of videos. It’s great to see the colors over different bases and by you doing the experimenting, it saves us all time and money by being able to see the results before making paint purchases. It’s especially helpful to someone like myself who is just getting started and doesn’t yet have the budget that an established paint shop has to be able to buy every single color. Thank you for these awesome videos. You are doing a great service to all painters. 🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼

      I am a helmet painter and I have some experience with the fluorescent colors. I have also done some tests on spray out cards and leaving out in the sun. As for painting a car... no way I would. It would be seriously faded after a week or two in the sun. When I do fluorescent jobs I let the customer know it will fade and to keep it in the bag when not being used, even inside. I use 4050 now to help (but 4030 before that) and use the best 2k clear w UV money can buy. I also key the sealer, just like Chris says, and it helps a bunch when it does fade. I like to keep paint thickness to a minimum normally but will be a little more generous when using fluorescent, and that seems to help prolong the color a bit....(Chris, tell me if that’s not actually true, it will save me lots of clear and sanding to bury the edge). This is my 2c with createx fluorescent (as well as solvent fluorescents). Gorgeous colors but must be respected for lightfastness. They WILL fade.

    For fluorescent green, would I mix auto-borne green and yellow, and tint it down with white? Asking before wasting paint on a failed attempt.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, AutoBorne Sealer Green and Yellow work well for a fluorescent yellow, as well as a pearl lime green. Whether to tint with white is a matter of preference, however, adding about 25% AutoBorne Sealer White to that mix will increase opacity so its a good idea, at least for larger projects. Fluorescent Green also looks good over Sealer Green and White mixed. The yellow will bring out the yellow-shade int he Fluorescent Green. Thank you.

    Great video! Do you guys have any videos of the W019 Wicked Fluorescent Aqua? I want to use it on one of my project trucks and haven’t found any videos of people using it.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  4 роки тому +1

      No, but the concept would be the same, mix Sealer 6010 Green & 6009 Process Blue, then mix that with 6001 Sealer White to make a pastel-aqua sealer base for W019 Aqua. Play around with mix ratios, tinting Sealer White with an aqua-mix close enough to W019 works. Thank you.

    What difference is there between Wicked Fluorescent and Auto-air Fluorescent, why choose 1 product vs the other?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  4 роки тому +1

      Wicked and Auto Air Fluorescent Colors are the same; did not start this way, but formulation developed eventually lead to making the most durable, water-based acrylic color for each. Auto Air Fluorescent Colors are being discontinued / merged into Wicked Colors in 2021, which will be announced later this year. Thank you.

    Can you do the same thing with wicked opaque?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 роки тому +1

      Close, and it will work, but AutoBorne Sealers do have better adhesion direct to substrates like plastics and work better as a sealer-primer over which to paint as they cure to a harder coating compared to Wicked Opaques, but Wicked Fluorescent Colors can be color-keyed with a Wicked Opaque base color. Thank you.

    Hello sir how mixing fluorescent paint for spray gun

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  9 місяців тому

      Please refer to the Wicked Colors Technical Data Sheet available at www.creatextech.com. Basically, thin ~ 5% - 10% per volume with 4011 Reducer and apply with a 1.2mm or 1.3mm tip-sized spray-gun. For added adhesion, flow and durability, add 4030 Balancing Clear ~ 10% per volume to fluorescent colors. Thank you.
