Nice build there! That diesel should last forever
Thanks , it's a bit of overkill on the build but yes it's a lifetime splitter.
It's kinda hypnotic watching the log splitter in action.
Yes and the actually the same splitting the wood one after another too.
Thats a very nice splitter Steve.
Thanks , a bit overkill on the engine but it runs forever on 5 gallons of diesel :)
Wow isn't that so much easier then a Ax ! So smart putting it on a trailor and putting a cover over it and adding all the little extra's! Steve your just to talented and creative!
Annie it's a time saver compared to splitting by hand . I split for one hour on this as the same for a day with a splitting maul. HAHA
Nice little setup you got there Stevo.
Thanks , it's a keeper 👍
This is a tank of a long splitter Steve! Great idea welding that X bead to keep the logs from slipping. Awesome tool!
Doug the logs used to slip off the end so it was another plan B 🤣
STEVE ROB REVIEWS There always is 😂
that's a great splitter you have there. nothing like dry wood easy to burn and lots of heat. take care
Thanks Wallace.
Steve, you have a nice set up great video.
Thanks Danny , it was a fun build putting it all together.
Can't go wrong with that setup Steve. That does a great job. I acquire a small 3 cyl diesel recently.
Thanks Lloyd , I have two of these and it was a lot of fun building them up from a bare block. Look forward to seeing what you do with yours.
Nice bit of kit buddy ever better when you built yourself thumbs up from me 👍👍👍
Thanks Igor , yes do it yourself and you know how to fix it .
Geeze Steve..bring that thing over! we'll feed ya good while ya work
HAHA it's worth the drive to florida just to keep ya warm with wood all winter long.
That thing is a beast splitting nice bike
It splits anything bud. Cheers
Awesome setup you have all the way around , I go and get wood from my uncles farm and he has trees cut down from year before so they can dry out that we cut up and a similar type splitter , the pulsar great idea chainsaws are kind of needy , thanks Steve!
Thanks for taking a look bud. Cheers
Nice setup Steve. Yeah we'll watch a good tree cuttin
Thanks Wally !!!
How's she goin'? Well set up there Steve!!! That splitter is a tank buddy. Certainly sturdy!!! I like how you get set up with what you need to do the work. No need to have extra stuff. Figure out what you need, make a way to get it to and from easily and then go do it!!! Smart thinking!!! Take care!!!
Thanks Mike , I did split all the wood by hand years back and that was a great workout but as time went by it seemed to get harder to do every year , not sure why but this was the resolve. LOL
You are one organized man Steve...nothing left to chance.Nice setup you have there.
Thanks Ken , years of doing it backwards is a great way to learn from. LOL
Yeah I learned quite a bit in the same manner lol
Good evening Sir, you have a very good wood log splitter !!! Very nice and various storage facilities !!! Yes poplar wood is good !!! I also use it too !!! Very nice trailer !!! Cheers !!!
Thanks Dave , its great for transport so my friends can use it too. Cheers
@@SteveRobReviews Yes, i saw your licence plate !!! That is very good !!!
@@RCAFpolarexpress You like that eh 👍
@@SteveRobReviews Yes it's also the high strong capability of your wood splitter and the diesel engine too !!! Cheers !!!
Nice job.
Thanks Marty .
You have a great setup there! I like the cover you made for the splitter, it's useful for storage and it will reduce noise too. Where did you get such engine? You may think we've seen so many people on YT cut down trees, but you make things differently. So feel free to show us your setup in action! Thanks Steve!
Thanks Joe. When they went to change the emissions standards back in 2005 so many manufactures had surplus engines they could not use but could sell as surplus , had a choice between 2 cyl perkins or kubota so I bought 2 kubotas from a warehouse in Ottawa. I will show the other in the future.
THUMBS UP SHARED WORKS GOOD NICE SET UP
Thanks bud.
I have a video of us taking down a 60 ft poplar tree. To funny. Great video
Keith I have lots of them and most that size are already half dead , hit the ground and split on their own . LOL
Sweet !
Cheers bud.
Good stuff stevo👍👍
Thanks bud !!
That's some big birch and aught to burn four4 a long thyme. Heck Steve won't even knead his gas can.
@@SteveRobReviews Wait ya gotta still? I didn't sea no still. Whatta ya doin makin moon shine?
@@mostlymoparih5682 Moons always shining down on me 🤣
I remember in the past when your log splitter made its cameo appearance. It’s a pretty amazing machine and your machining and welding skills has paid off when you built the accessories for it. Very nice work Steve! 👍
Thanks Terry , sure beats an axe :)
Nice setup Steve!
When is hunting season? I'm looking forward to see that huge buck you are going to get this year.
Starts next Monday. Huge buck sound great Rick 👍🦌
I'll watch ya cut down some tree's Steve !!! 😀😀
Thanks bud will do......
Perfect. Everything looks heavy duty.
Yes sir a bit overkill but no weak sauce allowed at my place :)
Nice splitter you have Steve. Nice add ons you did. It is a well used machine. I am thinking about getting a pole saw. Nice set up Steve. Let's see yea cut down a tree!
Thanks bud, it sure gets the wood split and my arm are so greatfull I'm not swinging an axe anymore 👍
Reminds me of a trip my family took when I was a kid to upstate Vermont in the middle of winter. We stayed at a friends house that only had fireplaces for heating and in the middle of the forest. There was a couple feet of snow on the ground and we were out of wood. So my sister and I went out and chopped down a tree and dragged it back to the house. My mom came out and helped us chop it up. When we were done my mom said to us "Don't tell your dad I know how to chop wood". He would have had her help him chop would for our fireplace at home. We never did tell him. HAHAHA!!!
😂😂 I bet my wife can chop wood too , playing possum with me all these years too.
hi there just found you . nice set up . john
Hi John
Thanks for taking a look. 👍
Wow Steve, that is one sweet log splitter and I would like to see you drop a tree !
Thanks bud will do.
If theres chainsaws involved, I'll watch it LOL nice splitter! I've been contemplating building my own ATV trailer as it appears you did too? Cheers
I use the saws a lot but there's millions showing how to cut a tree :) I like the little atv trailer but i would definitely put wide tires on it as mine , the narrow tires just make ruts.
I plan on building a splitter with a drill screw
That's interesting, look forward to seeing that one.
very nice build.
Thanks Josh 👍
Steve that is a really cool splitter . Very impressive set up ya got there.
Thanks bud , was a challenging build but well worth the time. Cheers
love the set up
Splits like butter 😀
Just got back from the camp and you wood splitting stuff is impressive Steve....not haphazard like me but them I`m not you.....For me, I`d like to see you cut a tree down....just to see if you can get her done and make it fall where you want it 2......CHEERS
Ok Gator next fall and hopefully I can get it to fall right in the fall. LOL
Good set up my friend. Just about like me, will cut a cord or two for my next season need and will put up a few cords for sale. All from dead wood or winter/storm blow down.
Thanks Victor . I may start to sell some wood next year. Lots of huge maple came down this fall .
I have a Z482 sitting in the corner of my shop, came from an APU off a semi. Can you imagine trying to sleep with that thing running? LOL
Same as this. You should try and build something with it. You dont burn much wood in Louisiana but a hydraulic power pac might be interesting.
I just picked up a 3cyl kubota diesel. Im planning to build a splitter with it. On these kubotas do you just give the glow plugs 12v to come on? No resistor or anything like that?
I run mine thru a switched fused 30 amp relay nothing else just 12v.
Another question i had. What size hydraulic pump is that
@@Kallaus_built Low Pressure 16.0 GPM/High Pressure 4.0 GPM
That's one sweet wood splitter. I just bought our house out in the bush in Chapleau. I got a wood splitter left with the property and the thing is so low to the ground like most of the commercially available ones you can buy. What a pain to be bent over all the time. How much would you say it cost to build that unit? Also it may or not matter now but you don't actually need a license plate for that trailer. Its considered a working trailer or equipment by the mto and doesn't require plates. That's why you don't see plates on gensets, compressors, light stands, welders, chippers etc. What do you use for plowing in the winter? I can't remember if you've ever touched on that topic or not? plow on the quad?
I dont go in the winter but if it snows early I use my back blade for my tractor. I originally thought of making a permanent stand for the splitter and use the trailer for my quad but just left it on. I did show my second engine last week , not sure what im going to do with it but the build for the splitter was about $500 plus the engine. I dont like the setup on most store bought splitters either. I figure I can split wood for 24 hours on 5 gallons of diesel 😂
Great build Steve... I have an old 2 cylinder deutz diesel about 29 hp sitting on a trailer like yours.. I want to convert it to hydraulic.. could you advise me on the adapters and pump and how you put that all together?? Thank you in advance!!
I built my own bracket that bolts to the diesel block and bolted the hydraulic pump to that. My flywheel stub axle is 1.125 and used flexable couplings on the pump to the stub axle to turn the pump . The rest is just like any other log splitter. I run it a 1800 rpm and it splits easily.
What did you use as an adapter to go from the flywheel to a hydraulic pump? Thinking of doing something similar!
I just bought the stubshaft from kubota 1-1/8 shaft I believe that bolts to the flywheel . I used a piece of 3/8 flat steel and bolted it to the bell housing and used some angle iron to fabricate a mount for the pump and connected it with a lovejoy coupler . Built up two of these engine .
@STEVE ROB REVIEWS thanks! Im repowering a ramsplitter wjth a log lift and auto cycle valve so itll be cooler to use this engine instead of another honda.
I put a 5 gallon tank on it and after 8 years and about 2 bush cords of splitting wood I'm still on the same 5 gallons.
@@SteveRobReviewsdo you happen to have a part number or what application the stub shaft was for? I talked to Kubota and their industrial counterpart and nobody seems to be able to find a part without searching from what the engine was installed in. (Like a particular mower or whatever) They’re as frustrated as we are that they have to do it that way.
Where did you find the stub shaft for the flywheel? Kubota can’t seem to search one out for me without starting from what machine the engine was used in. And when you’re re-purposing an engine that doesn’t help. My 482 was from a Carrier APU and they had a pulley bolted to the flywheel. Some Kubota tractors had pulleys as well so that was also a dead-end I need a 1-1/8” shaft off the flywheel
NO Steve Don't cut know trees down LOL Its scary enough watching you climb them! How big around were you saying ! LOL I will get extremely stressed watching you cut a huge tree down!
Not saying I'll still watch you (Don't get hurt)!
Annie I will pick a small one just for you :)
Yeah cut some trees cause everyone is different maybe you have some hints
Ok bud will do. Totally not conventional but I geterdone for the last 40 years and I'm still alive 😂😂
@@SteveRobReviews lol well 40 years didnt kill ya ,so your safe, no one is that lucky lol. Thanks again for the vid.
