I was wondering about the idle myself, and personally I think I would put some more time in engine mounts and go for a lower idle. The high idle would drive me nuts quicker than a little more vibration. Still a great build and I wish I could do something very similar. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Yeah I will be looking into it more this winter I just wanted to enjoy it for the summer! Thanks brother.
I have been running my '46 CJ2A swap for 6 years now. I have the same issue with the idle. I have just accepted the 1200 rpm idle at this point. Nice job!
As a former OTR driver pulling reefer, the sound of that engine lulled me to sleep many a time. Unless I was pulling a frozen load and then the engine would cycle off/on at higher rpms. People hated us reefer drivers at the rest areas and truck stops.
That was me i cant stand the Rev
That is the nicest jeep I have seen in years you did a hell of a job sir 👏
Thank you sir that means alot!
man that jeep is perfect. great work!
Thank you!
that's a cool build; good post apocalypse vehicle too. They used to advertise those surplus jeeps all the time in the back of magazines when I was a kid in the 80s. That'd be a very fun summer vehicle for tooling around in too. great project idea.
Great video with good information! Thanks for including the real audio instead of loud music like everyone else on UA-cam.
Wow, these two Jeeps are awesome , love how they sound !
I love this setup! As far as the speed goes, it really wasn't much faster with the OEM gas engine, so no real loss there.....
I've really enjoyed watching everything that you have done to your Willys jeep. Cannot wait to see additional videos of it in action!
I'll be taking it out tomorrow so stay tuned, thanks for the kind words!
Always thought the YJ with a VW tdi swap was cool. But this is freaking sweet. Would be a perfect farm toy too
Diesels are supposed to vibrate, and big semis do to its just how they are bro and its bad ass cool leave it at the low idle you will come to get used to it!!! and thanks for showing us the jeep again and showing us how it drives which I kind of had an idea because they can go everywhere but once again thanks for listening!!!
Awesome!! Great job!
Nice setup. Definitely go for that T98 swap, you won’t regret it with that 6.40:1 first gear. Total game changer!
As someone who owned a 6.68:1 1st gear, I can confirm this.
This is the video I was looking for on these V2203 swaps, lots of videos of first starts and parts collections but not much of the nitty gritty. Super cool. Once I get some more space cleared I'm looking to pick one of these up for a project.
I'm no youtube expert (and i hate them too). That being said, you do need to have your engine running at least 140 degrees for a prolonged period in order to burn off the moisture in the oil.
Oil gets contaminated with combustion byproducts and turns into a mild acid. This will eat at internal components like valve springs, etc.
Very cool 😎 thanks for the video 😎 👍 🇨🇦
Thanks man!
I have a 64 CJ3B that I haven't gotten into yet. If the motor is gone, I'm definitely doing a diesel swap similar to this. I have a small ranch in the San Diego mountains, and some OHV trails out my back door. This vid really inspires some great ideas, thanks.
Awesome machine.
Sweet machines, great engine swap idea.
Sweet build.
Thats a sweet setup! Enjoyed the QnA.
Have you thought about using a thermostat that lets you run the engine between 180 and 195 degrees Fahrenheit?it would probably increase your mpg as this is the optimal temp for a diesel to run.
Awesome build, awesome video
Thank you!
I too have the Kubota swap. I took my radiator in and had them swap out the bottom exit tube and made it come out straight so now it takes a 90's hose into the motor.
Love the black smoke from the tailpipe
me too!
That thing is awesome
Those donuts looked more fun than anything I’ve done in years
Cool build
Great video and awesome jeep, the only thing I gotta say is please if your gonna off road, build yourself some kind of simple cage or even head loops like the old corvettes had. You and your buddy going up those hills could have easily been a bad day if you rolled or flipped. Also get yourself a 5 point harness...c'mon man...otherwise sweet video and build.
God save the queen
Team Kubota! Nice work!
I’m in love with this jeep
It's coming back home tomorrow!
@@BuyFixFlip is that an original body on yours?
Yes sir!
VERY COOL !! I want one !! Brent Glendale Az.
Great video and great project! I have owned a kubota L3010 since 2009 and have worked the crap out of it with no problems. I also have a JKU rubicon and previously had a CJ7 so I can appreciate the Jeep angle too. Would love to do a project like this someday. Thanks amigo!
Just put in a Jeep 4.0 inline 6 in it. Run 300k and you can run the interstate
I would choose the lower rpm, it sounds much cooler! Nice conversion! 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤘🏻🤘🏻
I love this thing !!!!!!!
Thanks man!
You are welcome I really do like it that body style jeep is a bucket list vehicle for me one day I'd love to have one and this diesel swap to me makes it perfect really great thanks for sharing
You should put in a thermostat to get your temps up to ~190. This will boil off the water in your oil and greatly prolong the life of your engine
My new favorite channel, they jeep is badass, great job
I've been slacking on UA-cam lately hopefully you will like the 6x6 kubota jeep I built!
So cool. I paid over 5K US for my Toyota 1KZTE half-cut with 28K Kilometers on it so that's a crazy good deal for a diesel. I own 2 Kubota tractors (a BX and an L series, both 4wd), their engines are VERY reliable. They're basically the Toyota of the tractor world.
COOL!
In the middle of 5cyl TD Mercedes om617 into a65 CJ6. Wish there was a kit for mine, but yours looks real good…
Thanks man! Good luck on the swap!
I need one, my only question is where am I going to get the money, dang it it’s always something. Great machine brother ✌️🇺🇸
Nice video
Cool
Better get a roll bar climbing those rocks
First things first. Order a Dayco belt. Period. Anything else is a junk rubber band. I would try to get it in the design that is NOT a top cog, for this application. Once you determine the length, order two more. One to keep in the Jeep and another for stock in your shop. Remember, two is one, one is none. This applies in most cases in life.
Last week’s video was my first time on your channel so I sub’d , love this video answered all my questions from the last one. Big difference in this weekend then last huh I am a buckeye too.
Thanks for coming back for this one! Also you can say that again! It's gonna be 62 on Tuesday, Ohio is sure something this time of year.
@@BuyFixFlip like they say just wait 5 minutes and the weather will change. Your Jeep reminds me of my old flat fender it was a 48 and it was orange too.
Jeep power
The vibration is going to eat up the poor thing.
Your electric fan is fine, but in my “professional “ opinion you need to get the engine temp up to at least 190 degrees.
Would love to see more videos of you crawling and off roading in it! Awesome build, super jealous
There will be plenty in the spring. This time I will make sure they video me first!
Your other option with idle speed would be to turn the fuel delivery down JUST a smidge. I bet you'd be able to find that 900 rpm sweet spot...
Great video……I want one 😊
Thank you!
I'd take a Kubota swapped flat fender over anything built by Chrysler.
I feel that!
@@BuyFixFlip Deep Down !
Nice jeep, good video. Diesel burns les hot more torq 👍.
Greetings from the netherlands holland.
Sweet Jeep kubota swap! I'm liking the way it works and have a plan for a Commando. I'm only one old man with too many projects, so we'll see how far I get. Thanks for the informative video, Jeep on my friend!
There's old reefer unit they do like to stay at a nice constant idle kind of a high idle too because that's made to run a refrigerator unit I remember when I pulled them if there was any dirty fuel or or a dirty air filter that would cause it to idle differently you could instantly tell
So back in the early 90s I bought a CJ2a from a bar owner in Sebastion Fl, he used the thing late at night driving up n down the beach. I paid 400 for it stripped it down and put a Ford pinto motor in it out of an aircraft tug best CJ2A I ever had it ultimately completely sucummbed to the beach runs but I hammered it for years it was a very good rig if you paid attention to all the little things.
Great story! Thanks for sharing!
I like The Jeep🙋👍🤗✌️🇵🇭
Thanks man!
Its like a legit Mahendra roxer
Do you like your tires? What brand are they? Great little orange jeep. I drove one in the army.
Hello fellow Ohioan! Dude, that Willys is SUPER sweet! I wish I had more time, I'd love to consider building one... Looks like a fun swap! I'll be checking out your other videos. Are you planning on building more of these? I bet you could make a few bones selling them.
Thanks brother! Also I'm not sure about building alot of them. It's hard to find clean jeeps these days. I am planning on diesel swapping my 6x6 though!
Gotta love old flat fenders.
What you built looks and runs great. What are your plans for stopping. I own a 53 CJ3B for a while, it's lack of stooping power was legendary/scary.
Good Job!
It has a full sidekick disk brake conversion on it!
My uncles brother had one same color , must have been forest ranger colors as his father was a game warden/ sheriff, his had a Palmer 4 cyl engine
What was the final sales price of your jeep? Saw it listed on EWilly's and it was already gone! Such a sweet jeep
I must own this jeep. It would compliment my tractor perfectly.
This is the only jeep I would consider giving up my lj for.
They are a hoot, you could probably build one for around 10k if you get the body for a decent deal.
@@BuyFixFlip I'm already on it. Been pricing out stuff and searching g for a good tub and frame since I seen the vid.. lol. I had no i dea putting kubota engines in old jeeps was a thing but I am hooked.
@@Miniscapes515 feel free to join the Facebook group and ask away. We are glad to help!
i used to have a 68 willis jeep
I just found a J-53 diesel. Probably not as good as what you've got here, but still pretty damn cool.
That looks like an engine and drivetrain worth protecting with Amsoil lubricants. I use some and it works very well. I also use some Triax lubricants which are excellent as well and less expensive.
I do love using amsoil in alot of stuff. I am a firm believer in good oil. Currently I'm running Rotella T6 in it.
On the idle try slipping feeler gauges in between the stop and the arm. See if you can fine tune that
4:04 My company has a couple of those engines over 50k hours in carrier reefer units. That's 50k engine hours, not unit hours. The units have well over 60k. They get an oil change once a year, probably every 3-4k hours. I'm waiting for one of the units to break badly enough where I can buy the engine for a swap.
Great set up. My issue is with the small meager Air filtration set up! Diesels really need clean Air& fuel.(as u probely know.) Just my 10cents .Cheers from B.C.Canada Eh!
That will be taken care of when I take it all down and put it together right. We were in a hurry to use them this year and smacked them together quick.
Great job and a perfect set up. My Isuzu 3.9l has the same idle issue. Lower it and it will shake the truck to pieces, put it up a bit and it smooths right out.
The tdi guys have showed a hollow motor mount that helps alot. I'll be trying it soon!
@@BuyFixFlip curious to see what it does. My Isuzu is original in Land Rover Perentie and has stock mounts which as I understand are HD to keep the engine and transmission from tearing loose.
@@jdenmark1287
Would love to see a vid of your rig .. man ...
@BuyFixFlip its 4 cylinder thing. They are all shaky at low RPMs.
You could probably fab up a puck type mount with some urethane or rubber body mount pucks and something a little squishier like neoprene. You need 2 different durometer materials to damp the vibrations
hi there i believe those are the auto hubs cluch in them may be something to look at , , i am putting a set of 373 rears in my 51 , took the pill out to the t/c . i now start in 2 wheel low then 2 wheel high then 2nd and 3rd m might be a thought , you did good john
I wish that was the case I swapped the locking hubs already, sound still there. New video coming soon of the front end rebuild
@@BuyFixFlip looking forward to it
I need to get me one of those
Great job! I have a friend with a ford tractor that does the same thing when idling down. I suggest it may be a miss from a bad injector or valve?
set it at 900rpm that is about where its suppose to idle yes it is very sensitive a hint slightly tighten jam nut and move the idle screw just a hair at a time then lock it down completely when get it at 900-950 rpm.
my new dream. i have a exploder just sitting around i wonder
some perkins diesels will bolt straight up to a ford ranger/mazda transmission.. no need for adapters
Wo nice and clean swap, luv it.
Does the blue Jeep at the end also have the Kubota?
Thank you, also yes it does. We now have 3 kubota jeeps!
Mannn I'm itching to do a Sammie swap now. Awesome thanks!
Any plans to add a roll bar?
Do it! I'm in the same boat I love them! Also not too sure yet. I would love to but then I would probably want to add seat belts etc and I don't know what I'm wanting to do yet.
I was thinking a new venture nv4500 5spd od would be cool, if ya could find one, they're kinda rare and expensive. Alternatively a nv3500.
2 remarks: running hours depends on use i think. When full hp was used or not.
Rubber boat dempers are designed to reduce vibrations. Tried those?
There was a special series landrover ,,lightweight,, 88 with a 2,25 liter diesel. Built for the dutch army. Series 2/3.
Yeah I'm looking into multiple hollow options for the mounts!
@@BuyFixFlip a company called vetus have special designed dempers for engines with lot of vibrations fir example 3 cyl units.
Im fairly certain the smoke is lost power. I think its basically just unburnt fuel out the exhaust.
Maybe you could raise you’re alternater bracket up or shorten just a bit
Lower idle is way better. The 1200 rpm isn't an idle and it's noisy
you can try shortening the hose a little to shift it out of the danger zone.
The angle it makes wouldn't be possible with it any shorter. I'm gonna get the shorter belt!
Dang. 33 mpg. My Daihatsu Rocky gets 30, bone stock.
When the engine goes out I’d like to install a smaller Kubota diesel.
I love the Kubota diesel idea. But a lack of a roll cage scares me.
They made it through ww2 and the Korean war without them!
@@BuyFixFlip not all of them!
Exactly.
@@BuyFixFlip soldiers were considered expendable.
I wonder if your harmonic ballancer/crank pulley is out of phase. Robot Cantina removed his ballancer and put it on wrong and had the same kind of shake.
I never removed my crank pulley. Most people that have done the swap have the same shake. I'm going to switch to hollow motor mounts
Any chance a bigger balancer would help
👌👍🇨🇴
What did you use for the injection pump and turbo? I have one of these engines and would like to install it in something. Also where did you source the clutch and bellhousing from?
Clutch is factory willys clutch bellowing is factory willys. The adapter kit came from Greg at overland diesel. The injection pump is stock and thr turbo came from Greg as well
some day this thing will lay on you. Install a rollover bar.
Pls install roll bars!
Usually the jeep bodies rust out and your looking for a body to put on a jeep frame...
Yeah this one was rust free luckily
I love jeeps but, they hate me... my jeep 🚙 had a 4 cylinder and made 70 miles a tank of gas... I replaced the engine with a crate 350 ci and now I have power I always wanted... like I said I love my jeep 🚙...
What transmission do you have in your Willy’s?
I don't know what kind of motor mounts you used. But if they're solid mounts. You might consider good heavy rubberized motor mounts. That way under the lower idle speeds you might not have as much vibration. Just a thought
Yeah I'm looking into hollow mounts now!
I was thinking the same also the vibration at idle is normal and the 750rpm is the correct setting personally I would have backed it off another thing too note is that a lot of the factory diesel CJ’s had four hood latches.
Spal fans only papa
Comment for the algorithm
I just acquired a Kubota D905-BG-E. Is this good for any car or truck?
