At least, we all now know that you exhibit Boston. Understandably.))) You play with a lot charm and happiness. That makes up a great performance and connects. Lovely...
@@lad4694 I agree with Lad, at least in that the overhead shots weren't too quick. I enjoyed the editing, and the overhead does give a brief perspective on the finger agility needed to bring this to life. Too much overhead though might distract from the music, placing too much emphasis on technique. On another note, Brendel still remains my favorite Beethoven interpreter, but this young woman showed a unique voice in her playing. I was greatly impressed by her dynamic control. It's what I struggle the most with in my own playing. Having a unique voice is not easy to do for a piece played and recorded by so many. Almost seems like a different player than the pianist who worked so hard on all the Chopin etudes.
I watched this video intermixed with watching Claudio Arrau play the same 1st movement. The differences were startling, but both were marvelous. Arrau, much later in his life, played slower, with more use of rubato and pianissimo and Annika had so much energy, control and expression. The whole sonata lends itself to a variety of interpretations and it was nice to hear a new voice.
Got to experience this piece by you last week with my mom and grandparents! We absolutely loved it and by grandpa was so thankful that I brought them for this piece in particular. Wonderful playing!
I play this video every week or two now, it's easily the best recording I've heard of the Waldstein. The sound is so crisp and precise, dynamics amazing, rhythm spot on, love it!
It was an honour and a delight to hear you play Beethoven’s Waldstein live in Alkmaar last week. I was there with my 13-year old nephew and a female friend. He’s still talking about it, you were his ‘first classical concert’ and you got a new fan in him 😊. He just started Sonata Facile ;). Thanks for the (far too brief!) chat about Forest of Piano, the anime series, with its focus on Chopin op 10, no 1. There’s so much more to discover 😊!
It's astonishing to me, as someone that has just begun to learn piano 6 weeks ago in my 50s, that its even possible to play pieces as fast and complex as this. Whilst I know its not something I'll ever be able to do, it's a joy to watch a true master of the craft doing amazing things 😊
This piece has so many quirks and you captured them all beautifully with such clarity and precision. I love the quirkiness of Beethoven and I love when a pianist infuses their own quirks when interpreting his. It becomes a new piece.
5:28 is just magical to me! it sounds as a dialogue ,as if spoken in a tender tone , but the words spoken are no less than a satire ,vocalised by the speaker like so that the listener is speechless, it seems as if the speaker is well aware of the impact of the words on the listener's mind beethoven really was a genius - I just can't express the feeling of this particular part to its depths ,and an amazing performance as always.
Really beutiful! Honestly, I've heard this played by many known and unknown while teaching myself the 3 movements, and I would 100% rate yours at par with some great pianists in terms of just how meaningful you make it sound while being humble and careful not to overpower anything. So receptive to what's on the page. Learnt a lot. Love it.
I have noticed that very often the pieces I study coincide with the pieces played by my favorite pianists. This is the first sonata that I decided to play in its entirety, and it is a very serious step, and in order to overcome it, I need to work every day, but I cannot always be in a good mood and motivation. During the period when I took my hands off for a couple of days, I saw that you started a live stream of you playing the sonata, so I ran to the piano as fast as I had not run before and started playing with you. I'm so glad it turned out so well because it gave me a lot of energy and made me realize that if you can do it, so can I. Thank you for doing a great job on this brilliant job! ❤❤❤
Bella y talentosa Annique, está Waldstein no tiene nada que envidiarle a la de Arrau ni a la de Barenboim. Adoro tu versión, muy ajustada al secreto romanticismo Beethoveniano. Una vez más THANK YOU. GRACIAS. ❤❤❤
This pianist who gives us such beautiful moments, has a way of playing the piano that is disappearing. (Fournier on cello, Perlman on violin, Victoria de los Ángeles on singing...). My congratulations to her. She is an example for pianists and for the world in general. (Most of the young are lost). Greetings from Spain, from someone who also lives in the heart of the keys.
One week after listening to you perform the Waldstein live in Alkmaar, I'm still telling everyone about how you make it seem so effortless, easy and fun. This video absolutely shows that, it's amazing! :) The new camera is great and I love the crisp audio on this video as well! Cheers,
Annique that was simply phenomenal!!! I followed along with scores I found on musescore and was just in awe of your quickness, clarity, and dynamics. The dynamics were incredible.
Beautiful piece and lovely interpretation! It was a privilege to see you perform it live in Ruiselede, what a great performance, so much musicality! Well done!
Wow Annique ! That's a brilliant and crisp performance of the Waldstein Sonata 🤩. You make it seem everytime easier then what it really is. I love also the way you edit your video so that it seems you are telling a story with the current piece you are playing. Keep up the impressive work you are doing and sharing to us !
The most played of the really mature Sonatas Beeth sonata besides op.57Appassionata and 109EMajor . I'm amazed at the sound tht she gets in singlenoteruns without pedal .Glassy good for middle Beethoven I think. Only Radu Lupu made me realize how many texture and musical problems had to be considered in this music . Wonderful here . Will we get glissando octaves in the finale ?
You tell 'em, lady!! I have a long-standing fantasy about slipping onto the stage and "testing the piano" with some silly song while Barenboim is first walking on and acknowledging the audience before he sits down to play this piece. I get in a few bars of my silly song, then I sneak back offstage when he starts to walk to the piano. Next time I play that silly song, I'm going to imagine it's YOU!! Nicely done!! Nice camera work too!!
Another wonderful and beautiful performance. I could really feel the presence of Beethoven in this composition. THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH !! 👏👏👏 😁😁😁
Bravo mille fois . Très belle interprétation avec quelque chose à dire ! Un discours qui m'a parlé tout au long de la partition ! Maestro mes respects !
As usual, no words can express how delightful Beethoven is! And your performance is impeccable (as always). My grandma used to say: “she makes the piano talk to us” when someone played so beautifully!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wonderful performance as always,Annique! You're truly gifted by God! It's such a pleasure to listen to an amazing pianist like You! Keep it up and Wish You The Best in The future! 🥰🤗
a lot of emotions u project the scenery was also very beautiful the piece u picked was fitting as well the piano was unique i m grateful for your performance
Chapeau bas for the person who's edited this. This is definitely one of the most dynamic classical performances I've ever watched. Personally, I also use three cameras when I record, and the eventual result is much more movies-like. My favorite moment gotta be 3:14. Good gracious me. Not to mention that this sonata is my personal top of Beethoven's piano works (he must have had a very keen sense of humor judging from what it sounds like). Greetings from Poland.

The overhead shots are always too quick would be my only feedback. There's a few too many edits which is distracting. :)
Thank you for that feedback!:) I will try to make it better in the future!😊🙏🏻

Loving it! I get why Fran said what he did, but I also feel it kinda fits with the mood of the piece.

Outstanding performance, technically and emotionally. Beethoven would be proud (or at least, less grumpy).
Or proud and grumpy at the same time!
Or, as Honeychurch in A Room with a View would have said, less peevish?
@@jbertucci lol
Let's be honest, all of us wish we were as awesome as she is!!!
I get insecure when I watch her play because I'm so bad in comparison lol
Especially at octave glissandos 😋
He was my inspiration, since… two years ago. ❤
My favorite sonata by beethoven played by one of the best pianists
The more I listen to classical music the more I am realizing that Beethoven really moves me the most
Their are so many composers I love, but one must always be doubly grateful to Beethoven for opening the doors to so many other composers.

I just love the opening rhythm and melody of the first movement, amazingly memorable.

One of my all-time favourite classical pieces, and I love how Annique plays it.
I had the chance to see it in person in Belgium! Awesome performance with this beautiful sonata !
10:48 The epic part, where the birds from the outside can be part of this recording in those silences xd
