Watching Valentina's hands in the slow 2nd movement is like watching a very graceful ballet. So beautiful, the incredible touch and feel for every note she plays. This really is the definition of poetry in motion!
She is just simply fantastic as a player, so powerful and yet with a gentle lady-touch, fantastic interpretation, for me the best ever, together with the Pathetique....absolutely amazing....she is not brava she is BRAVISSIMA!!!!
I am so very impressed nobody actually commented "huuuh you should go check Evengy kissin" or "Yundi Li", "he's way better". People like that are so annoying
The first live classical concert I ever went to was Roger Woodward playing this at the Sydney Opera House in about 1976. I still remember that wonderful transition to the rondo - it brought tears to my eyes (admittedly helped by being with my date who was a student pianist I was madly in love with). That didn't happen again until I listened to this (about 15'50"). What a fabulous performance.
Absolutely fantastic - please please please don't ever retire or quit playing as your playing is an inspiration to me and all and hopefully yourself as well.
Valentina, your interpretation and performance of this great work are phenomenal!! What is most impressive is that you don't ever struggle to keep up....you anticipate each and every sound so carefully, always ahead of the curve....effortless play with a quick mind and nimble fingers and the best in our world today. Your mastery and beautiful passion cannot be touched in my humble opinion. You don't just play the music....you FEEL the music, too. BRAVO!! ~Jackie
Awesome! Valentina's stunning legato, touch, and restrained use of the sustaining pedal is transcendental musicianship of the highest kind. Right up there with Gilels and Rubinstein. Bravo!
Очень чувственное, романтичное, женственное, что ли, исполнение. Не смог оторваться до конца исполнения (язык не поворачивается назвать роликом). Спасибо огромное!
Brava Valentina! I've just missed seeing your beautiful face and the beautiful expressions you make when you play. that is also part of the pleasure of listening you.
I Never had anything to do with classic Music and just wanted to let you Know Valentina that you just made me obsessed with it. I Love your play style, the pieces you pick to play and everything else. I even went to a concert of yours here in Berlin this Year. Im literally obsessed with you >.< Thanks for bringing me Into that beautiful new Genre!
It's hard for me to imagine a greater love of music than that, which you so generously share with us. Watching you play reminds me of an extraordinary beautiful and gifted ballerina...able to dance upon the keyboard.
Val .. You played the Octaves passage ( right and left hands) in the finale of the third movement incredibly simply( as it is written, piano legato and swiftly, which represents extreme difficulty to all pianists), in fact I've never seen it played like that before (all great pianists had played it Glissando octaves),, you're unique and matchless my lady,, God bless you. and keep you sound for us ever.
Back in the 70's i went out and bought a load of Beethoven. My first excursion into clasical. It went in one.ear and out the other. I left the Waldstein on repeat on the turntable and laid down and fell asleep. Somehow the last bars of the grave section woke me up and the arpegios at the beginning of the final movement gave me goosebumps. I have been a Classical fan ever since. Thank God for Beethoven, Vladimer Ashkenasy, And, the then, modern day technology.
It’s amazing that the human brain is capable of playing such a long piece by memory alone. I am no musician, don’t typically listen to classical, but this was wonderful. She has been gifted with a wonderful artistic talent.
I love playing the piano, Fortunately taught myself at the age of 15yrs old, valentina plays the waldstein amazing, I am currently teaching myself the waldstein, I love playing Beethoven sonatas like the moonlight pathetique and various other pieces, but in all honesty I give the credit to the one that made this possible in the first place, the creator of our awesome brain and fingers, and that is the ALMIGHTY GOD JEHOVAH,
Это потрясающее выступление превосходного пианиста, расходующего музыканта и изысканного художника. Брава, брависсима! This is a fabulous performance by a superb pianist, consumate musician and exquisite artist. Brava, bravissima!
Dear Valentina-- There is so much recorded music in our age of internet and we take a lot of it for granted. Sometimes it just fades into the background. But your piano pieces always cuts the pieces of the backdrop and gives me goosebumps. There is just something about how you interpret the music that speaks to me. There are so many artists on UA-cam all over the world from many different time periods, but you are the very best. Also I love your Chopin, please more Chopin!
That was one of the MOST beautiful things I have EVER seen happen in front of a piano, I have been playing the piano since childhood, that was pleasing to watch Thank You!
Beethoven is a famous composer in the world including Japan. Your sound of playing piano’s performance influences to our hearts and conveys your intention into our souls. We cannot take our ears off of yours❣️
The technique and interpretation are simply WONDERFUL! Thank you Valentina, you never fail to do the impossible which is to actually improve on perfection!!!
Possibly the best thing she has uploaded and that is saying a lot as all of her playing is superlative. But this is beyond. Completely mature brilliant interpretation. Fire Beethoven would have been proud of when it is called for and perfect tender lyricism to balance it out. And such clarity. No hiding with the pedal here. Just pure unadulterated incredible technique. I can tell she must have a special affinity for this piece. And also may I say her choice of clothing is refreshing. Suits the piece in a classy way. Sometimes I wonder these days what some females pianists (no names mentioned) want to you pay attention too!
I have been fortunate to see her live on Amelia Island a couple of times. Truly original in conception, and the left hand playing is unsurpassed, in my opinion.
What an incredible Sonata Beethoven wrote when the Waldstein came out of his heart! That first movement alone is just so miraculously happy and beautiful. Waldstein and Appassionata are perhaps my top 2 favorites of all 32! Oh, to be you Valentina!!! You play EVERYTHING so beautifully! Maybe in the next life, I will play like you!!! You are a gift and a blessing to this world we live in, even in the midst of all the trials and chaos throughout the world! Your playing melts my heart and conquers the wild beast within me!
Well...that's a stretch. She loves Putin a bit more than Beethoven would have been comfortable with. He had a problem with totalitarian types, after all. Great pianist, though.

She has the perfect technique, I love her Apassionata interpretation, about this one I think Gilels has the best performance. I love u, Lisitsa you are a wanderful performer.
This woman, this beautiful woman, is the most amazing pianist I have ever heard in my 71 years. I discovered her a few months ago, and I have never heard anyone, including Horowitz, Rubinstein, Gilels, Barenboim, Marta Argerich , and certainly not Lang Lang or Yuja Wang and many others who can play with such passion and virtuosity as Valentina!!!
The beginning of the third movement is like the promise of Spring, the hope of life, I don't know what else but it frees the heart, always worrying about things as it does.
Oh my gosh, one of my favourite pianists playing one of my favourite pieces, awesome. I really like your touch and your excellent technique. I really know how hard this sonata is (though only from the first movement), and to get it at your level... wow! I wish I could subscribe more than once.
Perfect time to upload- I was here deciding which Beethoven sonata to prepare for an audition. I was contemplating if I should do the Waldstein or another one....but you just decided for me! Thank you Valentina Lisitsa!! :-)
That was absolutely marvelous! Valentina, your interpretation and skill have completely swayed me. This was the most compelling performance of the Waldstein I’ve ever heard. The sheer clarity and range in contrast you achieve through your technique and virtuosity deserves the greatest commendation. Thank you for being here on UA-cam, and for allowing me to imagine Beethoven himself performing his piece, but realizing that even he may not have been as good on the piano as you are, he just relied on his ability to hear it in his mind. Although it’s hard to say for sure, as he was renowned for his ability to play and improvise. I digress. Much respect and admiration, - Cole
I adore Valentina! but this is not my favorite performance of this piece... STILL ... she's DROP DEAD sensational!!!! WHAT a gift to the music world!!!
Yes I am in sympathy with you,my intro to this sonata was in St Pancras Station London plated by an 11 yr old boy who I must thank for his amazing performance enabling me to appreciate Valentina's exceptional Talent
She is preforming live all over Western Europe and also Singapore this year, 2018. I hope she comes to the US in 2019. Eventually I will see her even if I have to travel far. It would be worth it to me........

Fantastic performance. Beethoven’s Waldstein is an incredible piece of music, never performed better with more feeling. Bravo!
I'm mesmerized by her sound and the absolute clarity of her playing... I can hear EVERYTHING... She is really something else.

I love the way Valentina pays such attention to the details of this piece! Very very nice!
I just happened to find her on UA-cam and I've forwarded her videos to everyone I know. She is extraordinary -- words fail me.
