Don't be fooled by its small size. This portable router table packs in a lot of big-time features. Just like its bigger brothers, putting a compact router in a table adds to its versatility. Two lift-up extensions provide a surprising amount of workspace. The support wings below double as router bit storage. And when the job is complete, it all folds into a compact box that can tuck away on a shelf. To top it off, you can build it in a weekend.

I'm used to larger, corded routers ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

I built your tilting router table last year, a huge improvement. Now I am making further changes, by installing a new plate, and router model with above-the-table bit height adjustment. Now approaching all I could want in a router table. Thanks for your plans and ideas, very useful in my humble woodshop!

I am in the very process of building a mini router table that disassembles. Actually, I’m building two of them. One is a surprise for my son.

man, this is really cool. for a beginner who just needs a quick and easy router table, well, buh bye! If I had all the tools you have i probably wouldn't need a DYI router table.

Same thought. Look at all that bench behind him. I'd die for half that space and a table saw that didn't kick my car out of the garage.

Built this a couple of years ago. Made a couple of small mistakes but it works great. Because it tilts up, I can easily make depth adjustments with the router in place.

Be careful! Festool is watching! Have your lawyers ready when they come out with a portable, systainer version of your router table.

My thoughts exactly! I've mulling around an idea for just such a design. I'm mid- viewing of this video and noticed your comment. Lol! Waiting till the end to see final, folded up dimensions to see if it'll fit in my XL MakPak. If not, well, I can chop it down a little for a nice, snug fit. It's a really cool design!

Bought the plans and the premium as well. Looking forward to building this and the boxes that definitely peaked interest. Not to be an idiot but in the shop drawings, it calls for 1” screws as opposed to the 1 1/4” screws that the plans call for. Maybe correct that typo just in case someone misses the correct length needed. Thanks guys-can’t wait to build these.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll take. Look at the plans snd make sure it gets corrected. Keep us updated on how your build is going. 👍

I built this box into my worktop, it lifts out to be replaced by a circle saw. Great video 👍

As I build this and keep looking back at the video and plans…..I see you guys used 3/4” ply and not the 1/2” you recommended to us in the plans. I know I could have also used 3/4 but I’m German….I like to follow the plan :) Now as I’m about half way through, I wish I had. Not picking on you, I’m sure it’s like you say in the podcast-using what you have on hand or because it looks more stable in the video. Just something I need to keep in mind when I buy more plans to build your stuff. Thanks

Apologies for my comment about you using 3/4 and not 1/2” ply. I’ve watched this video so many times my eyes were swimming. This is the first build I’ve done using formal plans. I learned a lot and this will help as I build the Japanese boxes I also bought your plans for. Even tho my build doesn’t look anywhere near as nice as yours, it was a ton of fun and I am looking forward to purchasing more build plans. Could please answer one question I have regarding the fence build-should the back be glued to the base at the bottom edge? Thanks much.

Sweet housing! How big a router will this accomodate? Dewalt 618? Or would I have to modify the plans?

I didn't notice and don't think you mentioned anything about clamping down the router table during operation. Where/how would you recommend doing this to keep the table in place during routing?

You can see in the second part of the build that when the router table is lifted the nails went through the wood. I really like this build though

LOL… good catch. Let this be a lesson to everyone to check your nail gun before firing off nails. 😀

I really like this design. Only one question/concern. The router is mounted beneath a piece of 1/2 inch plywood. This really limits how high a bit can stand above the table top. I wonder if there is enough bit length to use a pattern bit. Perhaps the router could be dropped in from the top instead. Any ideas?

    • @WoodsmithShowandmagazine
      @WoodsmithShowandmagazine  2 роки тому +1

Luckily you can find pattern and flush trim bits of varying length, but if this becomes a problem you could probably rout out that pocket so it’s down to 1/4” thick.

*Starting to change out all my corded tools to cordless and the **MyBest.Tools** are excellent.I just recently used it to router hinges for a 4 sets of doors with no issues and still plenty of power left (used a 3ah battery).Great visibility at the cutting area also.*
