    Certainly would be handier than my crazy heavy cast iron router table which I struggle to move around.

      I actually bought a second router due to the lengthy time it takes to mount the router. My table doesn't have an insert plate. The router is attached with 4 clamps.

    Great idea Eric. I just bought and Aluminium square base plate for my trim router (all pre drilled etc.) so I'm going to build this. Thank you.

    Hi, nice video, thanks for sharing. I just bought the RT0700C and was looking online for advice videos and how to use it stuff. Eventually I plan to make my own mini table too. What I wanted to say is that during the video I was amazed by the number of tools used, seems like a really cool and well equipped workshop, almost off-putting: at one point I was even thinking what am I even doing with just one little handheld router/trimmer! But I actually realised that most of the tasks you could do with just this compact router (and a drill, of course) and your comment at the end, that '...you may be just starting off with just this router is perfectly fine...' - it was cool, really cool. Thanks!

      I just remember Norm Abrams on New Yankee Workshop always had a drawer in his shop with about 10 different routers - LOL! I still don't have a cordless though... that will be the next one.

    My hubby uses my router table as a storage table, it is full of crap and I can't get near it. I like this smaller table top one. Thanks for the inspiration

    Nicely done Eric! Simple enough & gets the job done. I made one of those mini router tables many years ago. Mine has two draws on each side of the router section to hold all of the router bits, tools , etc.. Works out very nicely. However, I wish that I had allowed for "micro-adjustments" of the router unit. 👍👍😉😉

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  4 роки тому

      Thanks Steve! I wanted to make sure I had enough room to manoeuvre and access the micro adjust dial on the router when it is mounted in the table. It is a pleasure to use.🙂

    Cool build. I thought you would have made pegs on the base that mount into the workbench.

    • @EricSorensenCanada

    Great Little Router Table and Great Video
    One of the better designs. Two comments. First, I think I would cover the table in Formica or laminate to make everything slide easier. Alternatively, perhaps a couple coats of poly with a topcoat of wax. Second, a pair of T Track guides in lieu of the slots would also make the fence easier to slide around. I really liked the dust collection. Thanks for your time.

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  4 роки тому

      I will probably poly the plywood at some point soon. You can try T-tracks but you will still need recessed slots to make the adjustable fence work. You don't want that adjustable fence to slide too easily - you're only making small adjustments.

    Very nice! I do worry a bit about using melamine as a baseplate material. I made a (much more primitive) router table with a melamine tabletop and and acrylic baseplate and one day the vibrations tore the screws right out of the melamine as I was routing. Yours look like a superior board to mine tho, which was a piece of leftover board from Ikea. I like your design a lot!

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks 🙂 double sided melamine is much stronger. You can make a 5mm aluminum base plate as an alternative if you want something even stronger.

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  3 роки тому

      I sell the plans for it on my website and they've been popular. I like the notion of it. The problem with producing something in wood is that shipping costs are a killer, unless you can ship enough volume.

    Almost finished with this build. Not as fine looking as yours, but then again I am a newbie weekend warrior :-) Which router bits would you recommend ? I have bought a cheap set, but the bits are lousy (You get what you pay for).

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  3 роки тому

      I buy all of my one-off bits on Amazon and I usually get a good price. Always search for "carbide bits" and you should even be able to find a reasonably priced set.

    Great build. I've been looking at the Veritas router table but this will fit my budget better. How did you decided on the opening size of the insert plate?

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  4 роки тому

      Thanks! The opening size is determined by two things. I copied the opening of my factory base plate - that's the easiest thing to do. I also have it large enough to allow for my large chamfer bit, which is probably the widest router bit I own.

    Throughout the whole video, I couldn't help but look at the holes on the bench and think that they were just asking for dowel feet on the bottom of this table to fit into them

  • @Pedalpower3651
    @Pedalpower3651 3 роки тому

    how do you level your insert?

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  3 роки тому

      If your insert is sitting too low, use small washers on the bottom side. If it's too high, you didn't set your depth properly when you cut your recess. You may be able to fix that with a sharp chisel if you don't want to go back in with the router.
