This is probably the best video I have seen about building a simple router table that a slightly less competent than average enthusiast can build. I love the way you marked out the measurements using masking tape, and the “Gotcha” warnings were also very helpful. Thanks for putting this out there!
I really enjoy the look of this table! I'm going to keep my eye open for a black surfaced plywood, looks great (not sure if it's sold here in the US). For those watching this that are starter woodworkers or are unsure if you want to put in the track, a very simple solution for the fence is to move those triangular rear supports in a few inches, then simply use clamps on the edges to hold the fence in place. You don't need to worry about it being square to the table as long as it's square to the router bit!
It's forming plywood used for foundations. Your local building supply may be able to order it. Go to the local builders supply where the framers and builders shop instead of the big box stores. You can also use melamine board with plywood as a backer for a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" total thickness.

Nice build except that I think you need to unscrew and drop the router from the insert to change bits (not efficient). Your build is remarkably like the one including the fence. The differences include: I did not install tracks (used slots in the fence and fixed bolts on the table to get the same function), my deck is removable and the base folds for compact transport, and (important to me) the insert is truly drop-in so that I can change bits without removing any mounting screws. Good job on yours.
To change the bit, just simply release the router from the base. With routers these days it takes about two seconds so no big deal 👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺

Just a little warning about mounting routers under a table , as they are designed to run upright the cooling fan blows down over the chuck , when the router is run upside down there is a danger that saw dust can fall down inside the router when it is turned off , if you don't have a dust extractor blow the router out regularly , We had a Hitachi in the cab shop mounted like this and no one blow the thing out and after a couple of months the top bearing seized

This is great and I was going to have a go at making. Please can I ask what kind of router bit you used to cut your rebates for the T-Track and plate? I can see the bit must have a bearing at the top of the bit for the template (block) guidance but most of the 1/4 inch router bits I can find with the bearing at the top are just for side or laminate trimming and I'm not sure if they are suitable for cutting the floor of the rebate smooth for the plate and T-Track. Thank you. (I would be using a makita trimmer for cutting the rebates)

Sir Cumerenece? Hmmm. While I'm here, can you advise me? I'm ready to fit my insert plate and have seen you using bits of wood to create the template. Do I need a flush trim bit with a shank bearing to create the shelf that the plate sits on?

This is brilliant mate! I wish you had covered this 6 months ago 😁. Would have saved me from buying my Bosch table, your design is far more flexible, and you have the satisfaction that you made it yourself. Keep bringing us the great content Uncle Knackers!
No worries at all Zak! Glad you liked it mate.....l'm sure the Bosch is a real good one 👍🇦🇺😁
Just pipped by Maker Mackey for first in but what a cracking entry! Added to the #woodjigs21 playlist. I'm liking these form ply workshop jigs and this in particular looks so spiffy with the red plate, blue track and yellow screws. Great Job Knackers! :D Setting a high bar for the prizes!
WHAT!!!...Not first!.....mate, l need to see a time stamp as evidence 😂😂 Glad l could meet your expectations mate and l look forward to seeing what everybody else comes up with. Cheers mate 👍👍😁🇦🇺....Just watching Barty struggling in the second set...nail biter 😬
Nice little "Tablework", enjoyable explained
But after a some workingtime the screws for the T-Track are no longer solid.
I used metric screws with nuts
👍👍.....Good fix mate 👍
What a great table, and awesome entry into the #woodjigs21. I did not know a built-in baseplate like that existed for the Makita routers, I’ll need to make a table just like that 😍👍👍 and perhaps even enter the challenge with it 😜
Hahahahahhaha...no more router tables allowed in the competition. 😂 Thanks for watching Jesper....hope you can once again grace our screens with an entry 😁🇦🇺
@@diyforknuckleheads I will for sure 🤪be haunting your screens again, and I’m cooking up a jig the world has never seen before 🤣
@@JesperMakes Oohhhh....intriguing 🤔🤔😁
Замечательный стол
Спасибо! Рад, что вам понравилось, и спасибо за просмотр 👍😁🇦🇺

Re. The jointer video.......you could come up to Qld and help me build mine....... !!!! It’s what mates do........ and no Stanley knives....... I promise....!!!
Hahahahhaha....sounds like a plan Tezza 👍😁
So you use a router freehand to build a router table because freehand routing is unreliable?
Thanks for so many great videos, I have built a few from watching you. My favorite so far is the Fishing Pole carrier. I think this table is going to surpass it! Does anyone know a Plate that fits a Milwaukee Trim router, Model 2723-20? Google search was unfulfilling.
Thanks Michael...glad you liked it mate 👍😁 I think you can buy Universal ones that suit a number of different machines. If all that fails, you can also just buy a universal plate and drill your own holes in it. Good luck with it and thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
You Sir, are BANNED from telling jokes on a platform that can reach millions - ne - BILLIONS across the planet. ps. thank you for the video.
😂😂....That's all the encouragement l need to keep going 😂 Thanks for watching Will 👍😁🇦🇺
Question: before American english became dominant, did Aussies say "rooter" like the Brits? (which would be especially funny as you know, rooting...)
😂....Yes
Saludos, 👍😁🇦🇺
Love the jokes. don’t love the blood but very cool of you to leave in the you are human and not some wood-working guru from another dimension. Really enjoy the content and presentation style. Thank you SO much for not hurting our ears with with so many “ummmms”, “and ummmms”, “uhhhhh”. Even though I don’t always understand the words coming out of your mouth the first time around, I am happy to “rewind” and listen again cuz you are easy to listen to. Thanks for sharing your skills, ideas, and jokes.
My pleasure B.I. 👍 Really appreciate the feedback mate and thanks for taking the time to watch 👍😁🇦🇺
It's so hard looking for "Formply" here in the U.S. I think it's named something else, we have big box stores but they all sell crappy stuff.
Yeah...not sure what it is called over there mate. Izzy Swann who is an American UA-camr uses Formply in his videos so you must be able to get it over there 🤔
I got a dad joke for you
Police just knocked, he said he's looking for a man with one eye, told him to open the other and he might have better luck 😂
😂😂....I'm going to use that one!
Just bought a router sitting here staring at it. How does it work, now I know? Silly joke for your arsenal. "I visited a monastery and as I walked past the kitchen I saw a man frying chips. I asked him "Are you a friar?" He replied "No, I'm a chip monk"
😂😂....TOUCHE 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Love it and I may buy the plans from you and build it. But what about attachments for weatherboards on the fence?
Thanks mate! If you want to add a featherboard, you can add another T Track in front of the fence 👍
Do you know how to circumsize a whale ? You need 4 skin divers.
Why did the push bike fall over ? It was two tyred.
Why did the baker have brown hands ? He kneaded a poo.
😂😂
DIY guy. You have plans I could download for any of your videos. Great job with those. We love watching but I need plans to follow. Thanks.
G'day mate...under the video in the description box you will find a link to the plans for this project. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
Legendary presentation skills with thorough explanations.
Just don’t throw it all in for a career in comedy mate. You’ll hear crickets.
Hahahhahaha....comment noted 😂. Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Sir Cumference....No- Bell prize? Ouch. I'll be using those😂
😂😂
Hi matey, I have just found your channel, you are one sicko, but I,lol save you jokes for the grand kids, then I’ll be the cool one.
Thanks for you video, I learnt something and had a laugh.
👍😁...Thanks Ken! 👍😁🇦🇺
honestly i subscribe because of your dad's jokes. hahaha "circumference". btw you always did a great video!
😂😂...Thanks Hanis! Glad you like 'em 👍😁🇦🇺
Uncle who sent you???
This is great and I was going to have a go at making. Please can I ask what kind of router bit you used to cut your rebates for the T-Track and plate? I can see the bit must have a bearing at the top of the bit for the template (block) guidance but most of the 1/4 inch router bits I can find with the bearing at the top are just for side or laminate trimming and I'm not sure if they are suitable for cutting the floor of the rebate smooth for the plate and T-Track. Thank you. (I would be using a makita trimmer for cutting the rebates)
G'day Andrew....sorry about the late reply mate. Here is the link to the bit that l used. Cheers 👍 amzn.to/3gttq7p
0:50 but crap, worms are crawling around the table
Just got a biscuit jointer any tips mate 👍🏻great video 🏴
Cheers Joey 👍 The biscuit joiner is fool proof mate which is why l like using it 😂 Just keep it flat on your bench and away you go.....very, very, simple. Good luck with it 👍😁🇦🇺
Mate, that is awesome! You've inspired me to have a crack at it myself
Thanks Max and good luck with yours mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Darn Uncle Knackers I should have re watched this before making my own.. I created so much man glitter using the router to carve out the area for my plate to go in vs cutting it out! 😂😉
😂😂....Been there, done that Paul 👍😁
Sir Cumerenece? Hmmm. While I'm here, can you advise me? I'm ready to fit my insert plate and have seen you using bits of wood to create the template. Do I need a flush trim bit with a shank bearing to create the shelf that the plate sits on?
😂😂...Come on Stuart! It's not that bad 😂👍 Here are the links for the router bit that l used . American Amazon Link: amzn.to/3sKq32X
Australian Amazon Link: amzn.to/3MtrkTD
What glue do you use? Wood glue does not stick to melamine.
Mate, I just gotta say I frickin' love your channel. I've watched heaps now. I loved the van fit out and the fold away bench and.. love em all. Thought you were annoying at first ya knucklehead, but now I love everything about the way you deliver the videos. It's frickin gold! From one actual knucklehead woodworker to someone I think is actually a master in disguise, I dips me hat. keep em coming. I'm about to build a workshop and need all the good tips I can get.
Hey this is really cool man. I just got a router and was looking for a nice little table to make. I don't have an insert plate I might either order one or make my own. I should probably buy one shouldn't I?
Glad you liked it Derick 👍 You can make your own using some which acrylic or just take the plunge and buy one 👍👍😁
Never heard of black formply, I don’t think it’s common in the uk, but I want some!
Yeah Jeremy....concreters use it to form up their formwork. Because of the smooth surface, the concrete doesn't stick to it. I love it and use it a lot for my projects 👍😁🇦🇺
God damn it dude 😂😂😂 I came here for the project. I subscribed because of the bold shameless dad jokes.
Oh also, what do they call that type of board here in the states because I definitely want to use that for some shop furniture.
Hahahaha....Cheers Brandon 👍😁 The black formply is pretty sharp looking stuff...l love it! Not sure what it's called over inn your part of the world 🤔....Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
does a router table fence need to be square given the point of contact?
Your router table turned out a work of art dude awesome work.
Thank you very much Cindy! Glad you liked it and thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
I must be really dumb but you just showed me my new way to mark the hole location for drilling - a simple nail tapped in. Doh.....
👍👍
The jokes a corny, the accent is precedes 😂
Was going give a thumb up but your jokes were rubbish but I felt sorry 4u so I gave you a thumb 👍 up 😆 🤣 😂 😹
😂😂
What type of router bit did you use to cut out for the insert plate?
Is this guy from New Zealand? I can't stand Aussie accents, but this one is just fine.or maybe this is the first Aussie accent I can understand.
Australian mate 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks!
😁👍👍.....Thank you very much mate! Appreciate the Super Thanks and thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
When you cut into the surface using the double sided tape pieces (around 1:45), how do you keep the router from biting into the template?
Eric l used a Flush cutter with a ball bearing on the top. I think l left a link to it in the description box under the video. Good luck 👍
Why would the fence have to be square to the table?
