    Thank you for this video! I start the second month of Insanity tomorrow and it really is INSANE! I was obese and lost 48lbs before I started the DVD and after these 5 weeks Ive gained so much muscle and have lost 4 more inches around my waist and bust doing this! However, my arms have barely any muscle and are still flabby, yet theres so much in my legs and a good amount in my abs now so it looks so weird! Im going to order the P90x and get the equipment for it because I need to focus more on weight loss and to get rid of this flabbiness in my arms so your video helped a lot! Ill give an update after the first month of doing P90x. Im going to start the second month until that arrives though. Thanks again!

    Thank you very much! I'm so glad I found this video! I googled "What's the difference between P90X and Insanity" and was instantly directed to the perfect result: this video. I'm a former runner/zumba instructor that let life get in the way of my fitness and gained all of my weight back. I tried to start running again, but between living in the mountains now (insane hills to run as moderately a beginner again) and the harsh southern summer heat, it wasn't something that I am able to continue to do everyday. I instantly thought "well P90X is the best workout, it's time to challenge myself and get back in shape" but after watching your video, I think insanity is actually a better choice for me because of my cardio endurance, the need for no equipment, and (as you said) my hatred for/inability to do push up and pull ups. thank you again. You saved me wasted money!

    I think a lot of people think that Insanity is just a weight loss machine, that will make a fat guy skinny and a skinny guy anorexic looking. I did Insanity Asylum and you lose A LOT of fat as your diet is good, but you also gain significant amounts of muscle. If you're skinny, you'll probably see the best improvements from Insanity because you'll trim down any extra fat and gain muscle all around.

    Great review but I personally have done the Insanity Workout and I used to hate cardio and still don't like cardio, but Insanity definately was the type of cardio I needed to whip me in shape, challenge myself, and it was exciting as well. Anyone who may say they think Insanity is not for them, I encourage you to at least try the fit test from Insanity, you can find it on the internet for free somewhere lol, but I encourage you to buy the whole set if the fit test changes your mind. Its the most challenging workout I've ever done but its one workout I never regret giving a try!

      Great points Jada Byrd , and great job on doing the program! I agree that some people get intimidated by the name: "INSANITY" and think it's a death sentence. My wife actually got "tricked" into doing it on our Beachbody cruise when she thought we were doing a Focus T25 workout with Shaun T...half-way through she realized it was Insanity, and liked it!You never know until you try! Thanks for stopping by :-)

    Rushab Badiani your security settings do not allow me to reply to you directly. But what I will say is that I totally get the struggle - and had the same issue. I would do what I could with the nutrition but not follow it close. The end result....to be honest...was that I was pretty disappointed. WHATEVER you can do to meal prep - even if it's on the weekends and night and you are cooking like a 5 star restaurant on the Friday night, do it! I didn't and was very upset, but once I started prepping and eating clean, things started happening the way they should.

    I have honestly done both. I did p90x first, and then did insanity. I will say i had way better results with p90x. Insanity was good, but i plateaued . P90x is created to prevent the plateau effect. i lost 90 lbs in about 65 days. cant beat those results. The upside is i did insanity, then went back to p90x, doing that your approach to p90x is way different, before during plyo x i would half ass it through just trying to get to the end. after insanity and doing 3 minutes straight of cardio with no breaks, the 30 seconds per exercise is so much better. u go all out more. and on the whole yoga x thing, i just substituted x stretch for it and i still did fine. i hope my comments helped. if u are over weight insanity will get u result faster bu after 20-30 days u will plateau. P90x purposefully changes so u don't plateau.

      +Bob Sharpe to be fair to insanity i was alot lighter when i started doing it the first time, but if you are trying to lose weight fast do insanity. i group insanity with lifting and i lose alot of weight fast. The upside to p90x is you are given a food regiment to try and stick to, well i didnt change anything i ate a little bit healthier, ate less food but it didnt drastically overhaul my diet and it still worked.

    • @BobSharpe
      @BobSharpe  9 років тому +1

      +james plank I think when you look at something like Body Beast, a lot of people end up adding too much body fat because they aren't drastically changing the diet to fit in that regimine. The difference with INSANITY is you don't have to do a drastic overhaul as you mention...good point!

    @bobroloff6360 10 років тому +2

    I've done both. Cardio and resistance comments in the video are all true. Both excellent for weight loss. Only thing I didn't like about Insanity was, no exercises to build biceps. Plenty of push ups for chest & triceps, but no real biceps exercises. P90x has pull ups and different types of curls for biceps.

    • @BobSharpe
      @BobSharpe  10 років тому +1

      Bob this is perfect - well said!! I agree, biceps are pretty much ignored...and in fact, your back is not worked on as well as it could be if you are looking for a defined back/lats/etc. This is where P90X definitely takes the gold

    Unless your leg muscles are very elastic, I strongly suggest staying away from T25. Your calves will HATE YOU. I can do Insanity. I can't do T25.

  • @Biiku_
    @Biiku_ 9 років тому +1

    Hi Bob, appreciated the review!
    So here's the deal. I was in the Navy for 7 years, and my exercise knowledge boiled down to "fat? Keep running and doing push ups until that feeling goes away. Depressed? Keep running and doing push ups. Pregnant? Curl ups and push ups and a good old mile and a half run will cure you completely in about 9 months!" Not to say this isn't good, but my goals have changed.
    Goal: Look like Sarah Connor from Terminator 2 and have the physical dexterity and strength to go with it. Not only look like Billy Bad Ass but actually BE Billy bad ass.
    Complications: severe depression (waking up and putting on pants = success), two toddlers who like to "help" mommy, and a naturally occurring fasting-esque diet. (I eat about a meal a day when I'm hungry, usually grains or whatever I'm craving. Avacadoes especially.) On days where I do more activity, my appetite changes appropriately to meet demand. So no problems there.
    Current Level: According to my doctors, my diet is healthy, I get plenty of water, and my blood sugar/ blood pressure etc. Are all fantastic. Other than when I'm depressed, I am very active naturally (not sedentary). 26 year old scandinavian decended female of breeding age. I'm 4'8" at 115 lbs.
    With that data in mind, walk me through your thinking. I'm fascinated what you'd say. There aren't a lot of books out there for people who aren't struggling with weight or with diabetes. In regard to my diet (which terrifies most trainers) I can't eat much more past the "I'm Full" signal or I start to get nauseous. Please reply publicly in case there are others like me in the "meh" category of health and fitness.
    Thank you!

  • @Shenruss
    @Shenruss 7 років тому +7

    I own both these programs, and you're right about the basics. You should have spoken more about the overall fitness increase and health increase P-90 X gives, and the explosivity and slimmness that come with Insanity. To my mind, P-90 X is the better long term investment, because it provides way more replay and re-use value with its various degrees than Insanity, which is far quicker, and simpler, but doesn't balance the body as well, or provide the same overall strength and health increase. Insanity WILL burn fat from your system in 60 days, though, but it's intensity is not quite right for everyone of all ages like P-90 X can be.
    Just a thought

    get P90X. it will kick your ass & you will sweat. mainly your body weight with options to use free weights or resistance bands.
    P90X. it's worth the sweat pain & cussing. I've been doing P90X for 3 yrs. still doing P90X & still kick my Fucking ass.
    wanna be a bad ass. get a weight vest on. leg weights & leg weights on your wrists. slowly build your strength & will get a workout.

    I did the insanity challenge back in my college days and lost around 20kg. No counting calories or paying attention to what I ate, I could include junk food every now and then. I did tried to eat at the same time every day and my digestion cycle balanced amazingly as a plus

    • @emedi.09
      @emedi.09 3 роки тому

      I recommend 100% insanity, the hardest part is the first 2 weeks, after you push yourself through hat torture, the rest of the challenge is quite enjoyable. If someone is planning to do it be mindful of nailing the 'form' of the exercises rather than focusing on speed and reps, it's very easy to get injured if you jump in a wrong position

    I know this is an old video, but just wanted to write this for anyone who may find it helpful. I started P90x about 6 years ago, and while I saw results, I just hated Tony Horton, and ended up quitting the program. 2 years after that I started Insanity, and quit after a week. It was too hard for me at the time, so I stuck with a push-up regiment and running. I ran a half marathon, and it sucked, but I did it. I then restarted Insanity again last July, completed it, and felt one of the biggest sense of accomplishment in my life. I restarted the program, and do the exercises off an on rather regularly. It is really the best workout I have done, although admittedly I have not tried many. 2 weeks ago, I ran about 7.5km. I HATED IT! I felt like it was not a total body workout. And while Insanity did make me run better, the experience was deplorable.
    In sum, I AM A PERSON THAT HATES RUNNING, BUT LOVES INSANITY!!! #DigDeeper

      Thanks for stopping by. To dig into this a bit further, what is your starting point? Are you skinny or do you need to first lose some body fat and tone up from there? Personally I'd recommend something like P90X or Body Beast but depending on your starting point that may differ.

    As a soccer play insanity is good for me. You will have to take brakes. If u dont then ur just a flat beast.
    Also insanity is as hard as u make it. If u dont push urself it wont give u the results u look for. U have to push and make it to where ur just drained afterwards for the best results.

    Also, I'd beware of these home video workouts in general unless you have a solid floor (such as the garage) to do it in. You're jumping constantly at some parts. As a 190lbs guy, I really can't do it in my house. I'd eventually break something. Even if you're thin, you're house is going to be shaking because certain workouts have a lot of huge jumps and moves where you jump side to side, etc.

    Great post. I started Insanity but I felt I was destroying my knees so I switched to p90x. So far so good. I initially hesitated to try it because of the pullups but now I just do the bands or pushups instead. The rest of the workouts are totally doable, even for non-athletic people.

    • @BobSharpe
      @BobSharpe  9 років тому

      Evolve that's awesome and I'm glad to hear it! The resistance bands are absolutely a great way to master the pull ups and still get a great workout in before jumping directly to the pull up bar. This is how I started and it helped immensely!

    Great review. Also need to add that Insanity is a high impact workout. A lot of jumping around. P90X is lower impact except for Plyometrics X. Both are great but are for different fitness goals.

    • @BobSharpe
      @BobSharpe  10 років тому

      Great point Daniel Lebron! You are absolutely right...especially for those looking to stay away from High Impact, Insanity isn't the best option. P90X can be more aligned with the goals, and even with Plyo they can substitute for Cardio X with modifications/etc.

    Ì did p90x for a while. I like to lift weights, but I do not like to incorporate them into a workout video especially being that I have to change out the weights on my dumbells for all the different exercises during the workout. This is why I am going to try insanity. I will still lift weights seperately, but I need some hard core cardiovascular like insanity to help replace my runnung. I am pushing 40 and my knees are really starting to bother me with running. Hopefully insanity won't be as hard on my knees. Good video. Informative. Thanks for sharing!

    What about which one is better for beginners? I'm not that big beginner, at least I can do some push-ups and so, but I pretty much struggle during cardio and first two days of Insanity were SO hard - I think that for a half of the whole training I was standing there and trying to catch my breath. Also my heart rate was really high, I know I was improving my resistance and that's great, but I would like to rather get lean.
    I'm thinking about switching to P90X Lean, do you think that is a better choice for someone which not that good resistance?

Another thing you forgot to mention is the flexibility gained with P90x. I did P90X a year or so ago and for me (I'm super stiff!!) incorporating stretching and yoga into how I work out was the best thing I took from the program. I've done both. Insanity has amazing results for the first month. But it isn't designed very well after that. You do 3+ minutes of just cardio and then get a small break. So you generally don't give a lot of effort. And there's not a lot of diversity so your muscles get used to it. It's the opposite for P90x. It's wayyyyyyy better than insanity. There's no dispute.

      OreoThePanda thanks for stopping by! You could get away with it, but I would recommend at least the resistance bands. A good place to start if you want a solid challenge and want to work your way up to being able to rock out pull-ups is a resistance bands of 50 pounds. As you look for a resistance band, it will say somewhere on the product what it's weighted resistance is - and anywhere from 40-50 is a solid way to start off (and can help even more so than a pull-up bar sometimes to be honest).Thanks!

    none of the programs are for building strength,well unless you are just starting out,it gives a good amount of muscular endurance and awesome level of endurance and stamina,but do not expect to gain size with them,the biggest you will look like is probably like taylor lautner or rob pat or nick diaz,I mean if you are into boxing or marathon,this is awesome for your stamina,but if you want strength you need a lot more resistance,a whole lot more.

      Definitely INSANITY with that in mind. The cool thing is, you have the muscle gains, so Insanity (or if you need something shorter, INSANITY Max 30) will help you burn fat and reveal/tone the muscle you worked hard to build.

    Happy New Year! Of course its Jan 1st and I'm one of those people who want to start 2015 exercising. I think that after viewing this, I'm going to try INSANITY. I'm not a big runner, but I hear that the endorphin that is released during the INSANITY program feels phenomenal. Thanks, Coach.

      Earn Thumbzz thanks for stopping by! You are right, it absolutely does feel amazing!! Especially as you go through and get into the groove of how the moves work/etc, it is a positive mood booster for sure (there is a point now that if I miss a few days I really feel it...it's crazy!).

    I despise running. When I first did Insanity I have never worked out in my life and I did the full hour. I HATED it. But I kept at it and I like it and now I do it about once or twice a week. But I LOVE P90X! I did it twice a week. The only certified P90X instructor at my gym moved away last week 🙁 So I'm extremely sad because no more P90X for a few months until another instructor gets certified. And he knew my full potential so he really challenged me and always made sure I had good form. Form is everything.

    alright im glad i came across this video, im a 16 year old kid but i am overweight, im 260 pounds and im 5 foot 9, i wan't to lose weight, very badly, as it has basically torn my life pretty good, with the bullies at the schools, with it just weighing me down, not allowing me to do the things i really want to do, not being able to go to certain clothing stores cause they dont have my size (2xl) and i just wan't to lose weight, I don't mind running at all, i'm just very bad at it,i can't even run a mile. maybe 1/4 of the mile until i start deathly panting, and i wan't to bulk too, i wan't to look good, with this body im sad, i wan;t to be happy, im not doing it for the girls and then some, i just wan't to get in shape for my age, instead of looking like the blob.
    I like lifting. i like the burn in my arms in my chest telling me im doing it right, basically, the one downside is that im very lazy, i have a job but i only have one shift a week, and i don't want to pickup any shifts cause i feel as if im not fit to work, and i keep telling myself to do it but i never do, ive been kind of doing something for the past month i went to the gym for basically the first time, i went on a walk 3 nights in a row, then i just stopped, i have a lot of motivation, but i never use the potential of it, please help with this, i was thinking of going towards insanity, but one other thing is that thinking about the time it takes and the effort it takes makes me cringe but i know i have to do it.
    thanks for helping when you reply

      Minnesota thanks for stopping by. Screw the bullies dude, they only do that to you so they can make themselves feel better. Stay passionate and you'll find in time that you'll rise above them for sure. You mentioned about staying committed/being lazy/etc - I would actually recommend checking out something like P90X3 (just heed Beachbody's note about parental guidance for purchases for under 18 years). These are only 30 mins, are very efficient, and can help with cutting body fat and building up some gains to get started on the right foot, without wasting a lot of time. After that you can do a few rounds or progress onto something like Body Beast where you can mass bulk if you'd like. Hope that helps!

    I did both, P90X and Insanity. The results were these: Insanity - 34 lbs loss in 9 weeks. P90X - 17 lbs loss in 12 weeks. So for me the choice is simple. Want to lose a ton of weight, do Insanity.

      Lol I know a guy with a similar birthmark. He made up a story of how he was wounded in a fight saving a kid. He told it to the ladies. It actually worked haha.
