You probably know by now but Sutekh is a classic villain for the 4th Dr. In the episode pyramid of Mars. I got an idea who it might be when Susan said to Mel "call, me Sue pet!" 😂 We might not have been able to see the mothers face as it was based off cctv footage which was taken from a cctv camera from 66 metres away...almost 73 yards! Which we were told is the optimal distance not to recognise features. Just a guess, and I'm pretty sure Mrs Flood is another timelord, as she said she's been hiding a long time, knows what a tardis is etc.
Yes, almost immediately after the episode I looked him up and was like OF COURSE! lol Ya I got that 73 yards vibe as well...I think Mrs. Flood will end up being Susan, but Ruby's mom...i still can't guess. Maybe, POSSIBLY Jenny...but that's such a long shot I'm only half considering that!
When I was four years old, my very first episode of Doctor Who was the Pyramids of Mars and it scared me. That's when I became hooked on Doctor Who. He was my first villain. My first monster. He was where my childhood obsession with Doctor Who began. So when I saw that it was Sutekh, I absolutely lost my shit. To give you an understanding of just how bad this situation is, take EVERY Doctor Who villain and monster and put them all together and they still don't measure up to Sutekh. It took all of the Osirian Gods working together to bring him down and they were only able to imprison him. He was paralyzed by the gods for all eternity. He had 99.9% of his power suppressed by his prison and he was still able to puppet people, alive and dead, including The Doctor and completely overwrite his will. As well as holding back a massive explosion from the other side of the world all with his mind. And that was when his power was suppressed. He's at full power now. Sutekh would make Thanos his bitch. Sutekh can erase all life in the universe without any infinity stones. Sutekh The Destroyer. Sutekh the God of Death. The Doctor only got very VERY lucky the last time. He banished Sutekh to the void between universes. The problem is, where did the Tardis land in Wild Blue Yonder? (Also, trivia fact: They got the same guy to do the voice for Sutekh that did it in the 70's for the original episode. The actor is in his 90's but he came back to be Sutekh again.)
oh wow! I DO know I've seen Pyramids of Mars, but this was over a decade ago when I was binging the classics, so I had forgotten most of it, (bad Whovian! Bad, Bad! lol) but that sounds absolutely TERRIFYING! especially for a 4 year old lol Now, I know Woolf played Sutekh, but he also voiced The Beast for 10...and Sutekh is known as The Devil and The Beast...is this the same character- or could it have been some of that power they removed from Sutekh that manifested itself as a being? I LOVE the fact that he came back! Russell T is NOT missing! *edit* That also makes me a little nervous that The Doctor will beat him quickly in the last 5 minutes, RTD has that track record!
Now, Vagonkhan in the comments made me think of something, he said Sutekh's powers were taken or something like that, I wonder if The Beast was part of his power that manifested into its own being...idk
Yeah, basically Sutekh is an egyptian god of Death. Doctor met him once in Classic era, and he BARELY defeated him, even though Sutekh couldn't even move back then. And now he's free. And he is stronger than even Toymaker. Doctor back then said that even all timelords combined can't stop Sutekh. Also Sutekh has the same voice actor as Satan. Susan Twist is like an avatar of Sutekh, and she followed Doctor everywhere, because Sutekh was hiding with the TARDIS.

I really like this episode. The reveal of Sutekh does fall flat for me, but that's only because I don't really know the character. The build-up to that was fantastic. And I love that they took the opportunity to take an actor's name, Susan Twist, and make it literal. She is literally a Susan twist. And the Doctor was wrong. It's not another anagram, it's a homophone.
I felt a little the same because I had forgotten Sutekh was from the classic era (and then I forgot! lol) but that only lasted a moment as the tension kept up to remind us, yes, this is a bad thing lol
I really need to go back and re-watch the Classics! I just have so many subscription services already! haha I guess I never knew there was a difference in Egyptian and Osiran gods!
Excellent set up episode for the finale. Enjoyed your reaction. I haven't watched a lot of classic Who but I had seen Pryamids of Mars when it was rebroadcast by BBC America at the time of the The Doctors Revisited documentaries in 2013. It is great seeing Sutekh return as I'm always a sucker for Egyptian gods type stuff. It is worth noting that the same actor, Gabriel Woolf (now in his early 90s), voices Sutekh then and now. He also voiced the Beast in the The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit episodes.
Thanks, corgi!! I haven't watched them all, just what was available back when Netflix had them, but I DO remember watching PoM! Sutekh's voice reminded me of Konshou's voice a bit from Moon Knight, but old Egyptian Gods tend to sound alike when spoken in a British accent! lol And I LOVE that! so is Sutekh The Beast, or possibly a part of Sutekh became that beast?
The whole Susan and TRIAD Tech would have tied into the fact that in An Unearthly Child (very first episode of Doctor Who ) Susan said she came up with the name for the TARDIS from the initials! But nope, it was just a red herring! Really hoping Mrs. Flood is Susan!
I cut this from the reaction, but I honestly thought Mrs. Flood AND Susan Twist were the same actor hahahahaha And I was like 'what about Flood!' (but I think SHE may be Susan!)
My thoughts on the Sutekh reveal? Honestly? "Awww, a pupper!" And before that "I know that name! What is it?" Turns out the pyramids ep was one of the few Classic Who eps I've seen!
Thankfully I did go back and rewatch that before the finale! lol And honestly it was really good! I hope Disney goes back and remasters those old episodes!
And one other thing. Sutekh has a personal grudge against the Doctor. The Doctor is the only being in the universe who made the God of death beg for his life.
