King Kong: The Video Game | A Forgotten Classic
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2020
- King Kong was one of my favorite games growing up. It's an incredibly ambitious FPS from the late 6th/early 7th generations. Its a game that is never brought up in discussions of classics but i want to change that

Thought I was the only one who remembered this. Blew my mind as a kid.
Same
I remember getting this because I subscribed to a gaming magazine. I think I was 15 at the time and thought it was quite good.
Loved this game as a kid, well this and war of the monsters on the ps2
Never really finished the game, that giant centipede scares the shit out of me
Hell yeah
The V-Rex and brachiosaur missions scared the shit out of me as a kid. A remaster of this game would be a dream.
SAME
a remake would be difficult or expensive because obvious licensing issues but fuck man i wish...
I used to have nightmares about the giant centipedes in this game when I was a kid
The V-Rex in this game is the best roar.
Dude the raptors in the stampede area were so fast, I shat myself every time I heard them.
TWO MAGAZINES ON BACKUP
JAAAAAAACK!!!
Its ok i got enough magazines
Hey Jack, you want to quit counting out loud? Or maybe you wanna attract more of those things!
This island is fantastic!

i COMPLETELY agree this game is totally underrated. i was obsessed with it when I was a kid.
The only other game that has that story telling, atmosphere and music is Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, sadly the controls and some other stuff suck because it was released incomplete
@@ZelenikTchingy Those controls made me wanna kill myself
Man, this game is the definition of catching lighting in a bottle.
holy shit.. this game was amazing. you just took me back.
Yep me too, loved this game.
The only other game that has that story telling, atmosphere and music is Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, sadly the controls and some other stuff suck because it was released incomplete
I agree this game are amazing
@@Dopeymanthing ok virgin
@@barackputin wtf it looks like im schizophrenic lol looks like i was kicking off at someone in the wrong chat haha
Personally, looking back, I realized that the fact that the Kong levels were so few in between, is because of how therapeutic they were.
You spend the majority of the game as a regular human, running on limited resources, on an island where every single thing that moves is trying to kill you. There is fear in every corner.
When you become Kong, you become the thing to be feared. And that level of power you have while playing Kong is completely subverted when you get to the New York levels.
This and Revenge of the Sith are some of the best movie based video games I've ever played! Maybe even Two Towers and Return of the King would be good examples now I think about it.
I never finished Revenge of the Sith my copy got scratched and just stopped working.
Top tier movie adapted video games right there
The Warriors is THE best Movie-game
@@arcanefury3666 I spent many a day going to the local game store after school to get rots, battlefront 2 and halo cleaned and repaired cus my 8 year old brain rebelled at the thought of putting em back up lol
This game. Revenge of the sith. And the first transformers game. Where you could fly around the city. Were the best
Most of the cut levels are because they ran out of budget. I think they talk about this in commentary that you can unlock. But yeah, they were passionate about this game. And Peter just let them. They came up with so much they had to cut it from the game, because of budget.
Dang. Now I want a remaster/ remake where they add the content that they couldn’t add in before.
@@bobcat24 It's Ubisoft, they won't allow it unless it involves scams (micro transactions, goofy looking skins that don't fit the theme, boring gameplay. Focus on PvP)
As is Ubisoft now, better stay dead than made into a garbage game that scares of investors.
Aw it got halo 2’d
The reason why some of the levels, such as the swamps, kong and log missions feel really disjointed and feel slapped together is because the xbox 360/ps3 versions have had the pre mission cutscenes removed for some unknown reason. In the ps2/xbox/game cube versions of the game there were small cutscenes that would play, ranging from simple glimpses and hints of what may be coming up next, or in the cases relevant to the mentioned levels, cutscenes that bridge the gaps between levels to stop them feeling disjointed and sudden. I honestly cant fathom why they were removed. Theres one really cool one where after hayes is trampled by the v rex and it tackles kong off the edge of the cliff, a cutscene would play showing kong and the v rex falling down the cliff, hitting the ground and staring eachother down. These cutscenes just make the experience 10x more cohesive and better in general
Not gonna lie, I came here because of the thumbnail.
Love your cyberpunk vids. I feel there is more to say but I ' ll leave it at that.
" It was beauty that killed the beast "
- Jablonski
wait... whos jablonski?
Jack black
and why you call him jablonski?
Did he say that in one of his videos? And if so which one.
It’s so strange - About a year ago I made a video essay on this game for a video game writing course because it was a particularly fond game I bought after renting it twice from blockbuster, and one of the first things I said was that I doubted anybody else even remembered let alone played it. And suddenly I’m seeing this influx of content from people I follow all remembering and playing this game. I guess it turns out the game had more of a passionate following than I could’ve thought. I’m stoked to see it! Great video.
I was a kid when I played so I was confused Everytime he brought up magazines
Clips are what civvies use in their hair, this here is what we call a "magazine"
Just want to add that the Xbox 360 version is backwards compatible on the Xbox One/S/X, and by extension will be backwards compatible on the Xbox Series X/S when they release.
Always liked this game, glad it's backwards compatible on Xbone.
@Ronald McDonald Yes it will, just pop in the disc to your Xbox One and it'll start installing to your HDD. It simply uses the disc as a way to ensure that you have the game, all back compat games run off a digital version instead of off the disc.
●○● *y e s*
@Ronald McDonald No problem man, that's a good price for this great little game!
This comment caused 10+ people to switch over to xbox
Listening to Peter Jackson talk about Beyond Good and Evil shows he has a love of story telling in media. This clearly a passion project for him. I wish more movie games had that passion behind them. No wonder the game is the cult darling it is.
The only other game that has that story telling, atmosphere and music is Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, sadly the controls and some other stuff suck because it was released incomplete
Holy shit. This video brought back so many memories. This game is what got me into gaming. I have never had more nostalgia on a UA-cam video before. I can still remember all the levels, monsters, dialogue, etc. Thank you for making this video and reminding me of how much I adore this game. I didn't even know about the alt ending. Guess I was bad at it lmao.
I’m glad to see there are others who found this game to be extremely enjoyable. Yeah there are some bugs and inconsistencies, but for the most part, this game still is great even after 15 years. I used to crack up whenever one of the velociraptors started dragging Denham away and you just hear him screaming for his life.
This is one of the games i've beaten the most when i was younger and i loved it. Other youtubers talked about it and i'm glad you are too. This was done by the team who worked on beyond good and evil which i discovered years later. Great stuff. (Typed this before i watched the video)
This game was fantastic, I used to have it on Playstation 2 and I played the absolute shit out of it, got the secret ending and everything. It's one of those games that is "forgotten" in the sense that it sits deeper in my subconscious than something like, say, Ocarina of Time, but whenever someone mentions it the memories come flooding back.
This and Predator: Concrete Jungle are still games I go back and play to this day.
Hell yeah! concrete jungle is a jam
This game was a big part of my childhood. Even on PS2 it looked so realistic to me
Bro I'm so glad someone else remembers how good this game is!
I love the idea of the movie actually just being several scenes of Jack just completely fucking up everything on the island.
This is one of my favourite games of all time, I used to play it for hours on end. My favourite thing was using king kong and using the different finishers on the T-rex. Still a classic for me.
This has always been one of my favorite childhood games and Im glad its getting the recognition it deserves from one of my favorite UA-camrs.
I remembered every single detail of the entire game, the second I heard him say “Four magazines on backup!”
Dude called out his ammo so much, and so dramatically, it’s burnt into my friggin brain, bro
I literally hear his voice in my head, every time I look at my ammo in any shooter now
Haha same! This feels so nostalgic to me ^^
If you went into setting I think you could see the amount of ammo you have. I remember those call outs too though
This game made me optimistic that the future of games would be with 0 HUD. Just a pure seamless experience.
@@kurisechan88 0 hud doesnt work in most games like how would something like doom work without hud?
@@valletas ammo counter on the gun health bar can be replaced by something more creative
One of my favorite games as a child, and even my first FPS game before i became a cod fan, thanks to world at war. I play this so many times. I first play it on the ps2, then the xbox, and finally kept the game on Gamecube. Such fond memories i have.
Wow, I can‘t believe people actually know and like this game! It was my first game on the original xbox and I absolutely loved it. Even my parents, who don’t play video games AT ALL, played the whole game in one night after I went to sleep ^^ It still is one of my favorite games
I played this game all the time as a kid
king kong looks familial I think I saw him in the halo infinite trailer
well you're not wrong.
Halo Craigfinite, fixed. 👍
A remake of this game would be so awesome to see; one of my favourite childhood games, great atmosphere and the survival horror theme worked well in making Skull Island feel like a no-man's land. And yes, those sound effects are damn good; I can still hear the noise the millipedes (Which I think would actually be Centipedes, as they're more aggressive and carnivorous) which is such a creepy signal for it's about to attack. And any mission with the V-Rex's were some of my favourites to replay.
This game, Wolverine, and Chronicles of Riddick are the best movie games ever!
16:25 The most recent licensed remake I can think of, Spongebob, actually had a remake worse then the original. It even has the too many bright contrasting colors problem you mentioned. Remakes won’t always be better overall experiences, and since they’d have to pay for the license they’d probably make it really cheaply.
This game always held a special place in my heart. I remember being really young playing with my older brother and we would always swap the controller whenever it got to the kong parts because I hated playing as the human at first. I eventually did end up playing through the whole game by myself and it made me happy as hell. I was so young it was the first game I had actually beaten by myself without asking my brother for help. Made me happy as hell seeing u made a video on this gem of a game.
I played the PSP game. They made you use the right buttons (X, O and the others) to move the camera (since there is no other joystick) and move with the joystic. Arrows were menu stuff and the R and L were shooting and reloading or something. It was a weird set up! It would kinda push of the game.
But I played still through and it was such a ride. That was some good Survival Horror, if I may say. Running out of ammo when a fucking velociraptor is around and having to find a spear in the ground and fight it only with that is such a rush.
When i was a kid, every time the bloody t-rex showed up on the screen, it always scared the hell out of me.
2 Cvit videos in one week?!? What the hell is happening?!?!?
I’ll take it
I remember I was 3 years old when I first saw King Kong in theatres. It always struck me with amazement and emotion from the action to the emotional scenes with Kong himself. The music also made both the game and movie memorable. I’m glad people have love and respect for both the game and movie because they still hold up with nostalgia and awesomeness. Like you said in the video, a remaster like Destroy all humans would be amazing for this game
I remember this just being a game we had for ps2 would love to go back and play it now
Oh my god I think this is the first game I ever played!!! Growing up my dad bought a PS2 for cheep and he'd only play games based off tv shows or movies he like Godfather and 24.I remebered playing this game and losing only for it to go to a cutscene where your captured and then king kong comes out. When it was passed down to me I remember he traded in all his games for other ones he thought id wanna play instead like crash bandicoot and Shadow. Dude just remebering this game exists made my day, I gotta call my old man ;~;
Only played movie and show based games. Man he missed a lot of great stuff
Yea, I still really like this game! I have to imagine they were at least a *bit* influenced by Trespasser. Especially Minnie Driver's narration and ammo counting. I do recommend anyone interested to play the "Gamer Edition" on PC.
King Kong, Condemned, and Far Cry 2 are all great immersive "7th gen" FPS.
PS2 lent very well to bleak games and peter jackson's artistic vision.
It was one of the few games my dad ever played with me, after we watched the movie we rented this from blockbuster.
I loved the cold green/blue grey aesthetic, it suited the rainy stylized look of the movie.
This game was a fun and terrifying adventure, I love the movie too. As a kid it amazed me how cool the dinosaurs looked and Kong himself.
I'll never forget the fun I had with this in the early 2000s
I remember really loving the game back then on gamecube, haven't played it in ages.
Gamecube was so dope with this game!
it's weird how this game was forgotten cuz I remember at the time reviewers were actually praising it as a great movie liscensed game, I remember playing it on PSP as a kid and thinking it was actually a really good mobile game. to be honest I remember being really impressed by playing basically a full first person game on a handheld
It's been awhile since I did this, but I wanted to say that this video made me pick up the game for 360 again back when you first uploaded this video. I had it for ps2 growing up and loved the heck out of it, this vid reminded me of it and I got the game again 'cause of it. Thanks man, so many of your videos are timeless and invaluable, and definitely succeed in broadening people's horizons more than you probably realize.
I loved this game as a kid I had an obsession with it. Luckily I still have it and it works perfectly on my Xbox Series X.
played this recently, adored it when i was a teen.
revisiting though i remember why i hated the name ''jack'' so much for a while since ann CONSTANTLY SCREAMS IT
I beat this game all the time as a kid and watching this now is just awesome. For a ps2 game, it looks gorgeous. I remember this game cuz we got it from Giant Eagle and it was the only game Dad couldn't cheat on. If you used cheats, it disabled saving and loading, and made fun of you. You could still have infinite everything but you would have to play it one go. What a game.
The brachiosaurus part was not like the movies, but good god... It was terrifying. There was just an overwhelming sense of dread! I was always scared for the venatosaurus to show up again and then you see the dead brachio and the damn V-Rex appears out of nowhere. Shit, I love this game so much lol
2 MAGAZINES ON BACK UP!
I played this game so much when I was younger! The atmosphere, immersion, sound design, music, lighting, guns, details, scale, suspense, creatures, time period technology, and survival aspect of it is incredible and something I wish we could experience this day in age with newer technology! This game was actually pretty scary as a kid too! Such a classic and great game! The vrex and other dinosaurs were handled so well and really make you feel small and puny! It's immersion was amazing! Good times! ❤ :')
The Ed, edd, and Eddy comparison of of Carl to eddy is perfect! 😆 what a great classic show!
I've always loved gorillas and primates and found them fascinating! I remember back in like 2nd grade my mom and my aunt checked me out of school to go see King Kong in the Theatre! From then on we called it "Kong Thursday!" Good times! 😆❤
Dude thank you so much for making a video on one of my favorite games ever. I’ve been speedrunning the game for months and seeing people respect the game is so cool. Loved your video man!
I was 16 when this game came out. My little brother used to watch me play this for him 😂 I'm 29 now and let me tell y'all this game is still one of the hardest games I have ever played without a doubt.
back to back cvit uploads holy hell christmas came early
This game is underrated and overlooked as heck. People often say that Spiderman 2 is the best movie based game, but this game here gets my vote. It's that good.
I remember playing this game once at a friends house when I was really young, and It slipped my mind until saw this video! I remember it was one of those seminal moments where I was like, seriously blown away by what i was seeing and hearing in a video game. Great vid!
rewatched this video. it is dope and how passionate you are about this makes this very enjoyable, good stuff as always man.
this actually made me really sad just how time goes by just how my childhood slowly going away
Love this game.
And that Metal Gear Solid 2 music in your video is a very nice touch.
Omg finally someone is talking about this banger of a game
Great video! I used to play this game all the time when it first came out! Great memories. Can’t believe it was that long ago. They should definitely give this an HD upgrade.
Dude thanks for reminding me about this game I remember how much fun I had with it
What a blast from the freaking past and another great video, my dude
Thank you! One of the best games i played as a wee lad so thank you for putting a spotlight on it.
Excellent video man. I loved this game and I just finished playing it recently. One of the best movie games ever made. Authentic and respectful of the source material. Great content:)
I adore this game! I played it on og xbox when it came out, and thej it was the launch title i got with my 360! I replayed this so many times!! Thank you for making this video!
Honestly, this game had me covering my eyes at times when I was a kid.
Those goddamn spiders blocking my way were too creepy😳 I actually hate how they made them unkillable and can only be baited away.
This was one of my favorite games as a kid.
I feel like if they remade this game it would blow everyone’s mind.
Back when I was a kid my Dad got his hands on an Xbox that had a crap ton of emulators that were also legit. (Like we got a Earthbound game in and it wasn't pirate version running on it.) and on the main screen away from the console emulators there was the lower graphics King Kong 2005 game. I loved to play it and completely rush through the entire game timing myself and it was honestly fun for a single player game. Played it a few months ago for nostalgia and boy did it feel great.
This game was my legit first FPS game, played both on the PS2 and DS.
The V Rex section as Jack will always scared the Shit out of me even now.
Holy, This video brings me back. All the sounds are so nostalgic man, I wish I could play it again. A remastered version would be amazing. I agree, it's gotta be the best video game about a movie
I loved this game! Excellent video
I'm still fantasizing a remake of this game.
Me, my sister, and cousin love this god damn game and return to it probably every 2 years. It’s crazy how it’s still actually really good.
“Two magazines on backup”
Was some of Brody’s best line readings
I didnt played this game for like more than 10 years and i still do remember the levels you shown, this game was really a hidden good game
This was the first video game I ever saw/played at a store!!
Really brings me back
I dont remember theirs was a twitter poll for this video and weather or not I voted but I'm glad you made this. I love this game as a kid and it scared the snot out of me.
Every once in a while I'm thinking about this game i used to play on the ps2
Cool to see it again
It's great to know that I'm not the only one who remembers this game I played it so much when I was younger and I also loved the King Kong movie it was based on
i do remember when the 360 came out this was one of the first games out on it. I remember being surprised with some of the mechanics like fire being really groundbreaking back then , great review
Man this takes me back....played this game a LOT back then.
a Full blown remake of this in the same quality of the recent Resident Evil 2 remake would be mind blowing :D
I haven't forgotten it, i have a pc version, i play it every year. This is a materpiece and a childhood memory. One of the bests!
9:43-😂 ya got me cvit, ya got me. You make nice content man👊
i’ve beaten this game around 30 times. love every play through
Oh man, I remember this game as a kid! I got it for Christmas one year with a GameCube and some other games as well, and remember being so terrified of it that I gladly let my older brother take the controller. Looks like I know what I'm looking for in the storage closet this weekend!
Man this was one of my fav old games, and the first FPS I had ever played.
You brought back a memory from my childhood i didn't even know i had.
“I got three magazines on back up!”
Jeez this movie and video game were huge parts of our childhood ❤️
I love it when they yell at at you “she’s a real man eater jack!”
Complains about length of film.
Me: Hides my Extended Edition from sight.
I still have nightmares about the centipedes sometimes 😂
Ah man loved this game as a kid as well. This one, Red Steel, and God Father were my favorite games to play on my Wii
Finally uploading again ive been waiting so long
This was my childhood bruh we need a petition to remaster or remake this gem of a game
Ikr, we need more developers to remake or remaster some movie tie in games.
Excellent video about this hidden gem, you and absolutely represent what I felt about God of War after completing the campaign
Aw yeah, baby! Now this takes me back. Me and my dad beat this game on the GameCube.
