This and Revenge of the Sith are some of the best movie based video games I've ever played! Maybe even Two Towers and Return of the King would be good examples now I think about it.
@@arcanefury3666 I spent many a day going to the local game store after school to get rots, battlefront 2 and halo cleaned and repaired cus my 8 year old brain rebelled at the thought of putting em back up lol
Personally, looking back, I realized that the fact that the Kong levels were so few in between, is because of how therapeutic they were. You spend the majority of the game as a regular human, running on limited resources, on an island where every single thing that moves is trying to kill you. There is fear in every corner. When you become Kong, you become the thing to be feared. And that level of power you have while playing Kong is completely subverted when you get to the New York levels.
The reason why some of the levels, such as the swamps, kong and log missions feel really disjointed and feel slapped together is because the xbox 360/ps3 versions have had the pre mission cutscenes removed for some unknown reason. In the ps2/xbox/game cube versions of the game there were small cutscenes that would play, ranging from simple glimpses and hints of what may be coming up next, or in the cases relevant to the mentioned levels, cutscenes that bridge the gaps between levels to stop them feeling disjointed and sudden. I honestly cant fathom why they were removed. Theres one really cool one where after hayes is trampled by the v rex and it tackles kong off the edge of the cliff, a cutscene would play showing kong and the v rex falling down the cliff, hitting the ground and staring eachother down. These cutscenes just make the experience 10x more cohesive and better in general
Most of the cut levels are because they ran out of budget. I think they talk about this in commentary that you can unlock. But yeah, they were passionate about this game. And Peter just let them. They came up with so much they had to cut it from the game, because of budget.
@@bobcat24 It's Ubisoft, they won't allow it unless it involves scams (micro transactions, goofy looking skins that don't fit the theme, boring gameplay. Focus on PvP) As is Ubisoft now, better stay dead than made into a garbage game that scares of investors.

It’s so strange - About a year ago I made a video essay on this game for a video game writing course because it was a particularly fond game I bought after renting it twice from blockbuster, and one of the first things I said was that I doubted anybody else even remembered let alone played it. And suddenly I’m seeing this influx of content from people I follow all remembering and playing this game. I guess it turns out the game had more of a passionate following than I could’ve thought. I’m stoked to see it! Great video.
Holy shit. This video brought back so many memories. This game is what got me into gaming. I have never had more nostalgia on a UA-cam video before. I can still remember all the levels, monsters, dialogue, etc. Thank you for making this video and reminding me of how much I adore this game. I didn't even know about the alt ending. Guess I was bad at it lmao.
PS2 lent very well to bleak games and peter jackson's artistic vision. It was one of the few games my dad ever played with me, after we watched the movie we rented this from blockbuster. I loved the cold green/blue grey aesthetic, it suited the rainy stylized look of the movie. This game was a fun and terrifying adventure, I love the movie too. As a kid it amazed me how cool the dinosaurs looked and Kong himself. I'll never forget the fun I had with this in the early 2000s
This is one of the games i've beaten the most when i was younger and i loved it. Other youtubers talked about it and i'm glad you are too. This was done by the team who worked on beyond good and evil which i discovered years later. Great stuff. (Typed this before i watched the video)
@Ronald McDonald Yes it will, just pop in the disc to your Xbox One and it'll start installing to your HDD. It simply uses the disc as a way to ensure that you have the game, all back compat games run off a digital version instead of off the disc.
I remembered every single detail of the entire game, the second I heard him say “Four magazines on backup!” Dude called out his ammo so much, and so dramatically, it’s burnt into my friggin brain, bro I literally hear his voice in my head, every time I look at my ammo in any shooter now
Just want to add that the Xbox 360 version is backwards compatible on the Xbox One/S/X, and by extension will be backwards compatible on the Xbox Series X/S when they release.
I’m glad to see there are others who found this game to be extremely enjoyable. Yeah there are some bugs and inconsistencies, but for the most part, this game still is great even after 15 years. I used to crack up whenever one of the velociraptors started dragging Denham away and you just hear him screaming for his life.
Oh my god I think this is the first game I ever played!!! Growing up my dad bought a PS2 for cheep and he'd only play games based off tv shows or movies he like Godfather and 24.I remebered playing this game and losing only for it to go to a cutscene where your captured and then king kong comes out. 2 MAGAZINES ON BACK UP! I played this game so much when I was younger! The atmosphere, immersion, sound design, music, lighting, guns, details, scale, suspense, creatures, time period technology, and survival aspect of it is incredible and something I wish we could experience this day in age with newer technology! This game was actually pretty scary as a kid too! Such a classic and great game! The vrex and other dinosaurs were handled so well and really make you feel small and puny! It's immersion was amazing! Good times! ❤ :') The Ed, edd, and Eddy comparison of of Carl to eddy is perfect! 😆 what a great classic show! I've always loved gorillas and primates and found them fascinating! I remember back in like 2nd grade my mom and my aunt checked me out of school to go see King Kong in the Theatre! From then on we called it "Kong Thursday!" Good times! 😆❤
This is one of my favourite games of all time, I used to play it for hours on end. My favourite thing was using king kong and using the different finishers on the T-rex. Still a classic for me.
The brachiosaurus part was not like the movies, but good god... It was terrifying. There was just an overwhelming sense of dread! I was always scared for the venatosaurus to show up again and then you see the dead brachio and the damn V-Rex appears out of nowhere. Shit, I love this game so much lol
This game was fantastic, I used to have it on Playstation 2 and I played the absolute shit out of it, got the secret ending and everything. It's one of those games that is "forgotten" in the sense that it sits deeper in my subconscious than something like, say, Ocarina of Time, but whenever someone mentions it the memories come flooding back.
This game always held a special place in my heart. I remember being really young playing with my older brother and we would always swap the controller whenever it got to the kong parts because I hated playing as the human at first. I eventually did end up playing through the whole game by myself and it made me happy as hell. I was so young it was the first game I had actually beaten by myself without asking my brother for help. Made me happy as hell seeing u made a video on this gem of a game.
A remake of this game would be so awesome to see; one of my favourite childhood games, great atmosphere and the survival horror theme worked well in making Skull Island feel like a no-man's land. And yes, those sound effects are damn good; I can still hear the noise the millipedes (Which I think would actually be Centipedes, as they're more aggressive and carnivorous) which is such a creepy signal for it's about to attack. And any mission with the V-Rex's were some of my favourites to replay.
One of my favorite games as a child, and even my first FPS game before i became a cod fan, thanks to world at war. I play this so many times. I first play it on the ps2, then the xbox, and finally kept the game on Gamecube. Such fond memories i have.
I beat this game all the time as a kid and watching this now is just awesome. For a ps2 game, it looks gorgeous. I remember this game cuz we got it from Giant Eagle and it was the only game Dad couldn't cheat on. If you used cheats, it disabled saving and loading, and made fun of you. You could still have infinite everything but you would have to play it one go. What a game.
It's been awhile since I did this, but I wanted to say that this video made me pick up the game for 360 again back when you first uploaded this video. I had it for ps2 growing up and loved the heck out of it, this vid reminded me of it and I got the game again 'cause of it. Thanks man, so many of your videos are timeless and invaluable, and definitely succeed in broadening people's horizons more than you probably realize.
I remember playing this game once at a friends house when I was really young, and It slipped my mind until saw this video! I remember it was one of those seminal moments where I was like, seriously blown away by what i was seeing and hearing in a video game. Great vid!
16:25 The most recent licensed remake I can think of, Spongebob, actually had a remake worse then the original. It even has the too many bright contrasting colors problem you mentioned. Remakes won’t always be better overall experiences, and since they’d have to pay for the license they’d probably make it really cheaply.
I remember I was 3 years old when I first saw King Kong in theatres. It always struck me with amazement and emotion from the action to the emotional scenes with Kong himself. The music also made both the game and movie memorable. I’m glad people have love and respect for both the game and movie because they still hold up with nostalgia and awesomeness. Like you said in the video, a remaster like Destroy all humans would be amazing for this game
This game is underrated and overlooked as heck. People often say that Spiderman 2 is the best movie based game, but this game here gets my vote. It's that good.
Wow, I can‘t believe people actually know and like this game! It was my first game on the original xbox and I absolutely loved it. Even my parents, who don’t play video games AT ALL, played the whole game in one night after I went to sleep ^^ It still is one of my favorite games
it's weird how this game was forgotten cuz I remember at the time reviewers were actually praising it as a great movie liscensed game, I remember playing it on PSP as a kid and thinking it was actually a really good mobile game. to be honest I remember being really impressed by playing basically a full first person game on a handheld
Dude thank you so much for making a video on one of my favorite games ever. I’ve been speedrunning the game for months and seeing people respect the game is so cool. Loved your video man!
Back when I was a kid my Dad got his hands on an Xbox that had a crap ton of emulators that were also legit. (Like we got a Earthbound game in and it wasn't pirate version running on it.) and on the main screen away from the console emulators there was the lower graphics King Kong 2005 game. I loved to play it and completely rush through the entire game timing myself and it was honestly fun for a single player game. Played it a few months ago for nostalgia and boy did it feel great.
I was 16 when this game came out. My little brother used to watch me play this for him 😂 I'm 29 now and let me tell y'all this game is still one of the hardest games I have ever played without a doubt.
Excellent video man. I loved this game and I just finished playing it recently. One of the best movie games ever made. Authentic and respectful of the source material. Great content:)
This game truly was something special. I bought it and beat it the same day (it’s a fairly short game but it still felt great to me because I’d never done that before). Some great memories with this one.
Oh man, I remember this game as a kid! I got it for Christmas one year with a GameCube and some other games as well, and remember being so terrified of it that I gladly let my older brother take the controller. Looks like I know what I'm looking for in the storage closet this weekend!
The 2005 Kong movie is my all time fav movie. So I naturally was gonna love the game. I did, and to be honest as a small kid I was terrified of hiding from velociraptors, running from a giant T. rex, being attacked by large bats etc. I’m 19 now but man it was creepy, and fun! I would genuinely love a remaster of the game. Keep it exactly the same but with modern graphics, THAT would be phenomenal and if anything make it way more scary. Great game! :)
played this recently, adored it when i was a teen. revisiting though i remember why i hated the name ''jack'' so much for a while since ann CONSTANTLY SCREAMS IT
Holy, This video brings me back. All the sounds are so nostalgic man, I wish I could play it again. A remastered version would be amazing. I agree, it's gotta be the best video game about a movie
I remember this game and loving it as a kid. Not related to the game but did you know the original king kong had a cut scene with a giant spider? apparently P.J recreated that scene using the same old technology they used in the 1920's. I always thought that was rather cool.
I played the PSP game. They made you use the right buttons (X, O and the others) to move the camera (since there is no other joystick) and move with the joystic. Arrows were menu stuff and the R and L were shooting and reloading or something. It was a weird set up! It would kinda push of the game. But I played still through and it was such a ride. That was some good Survival Horror, if I may say. Running out of ammo when a fucking velociraptor is around and having to find a spear in the ground and fight it only with that is such a rush.
The first fps game I've ever played. I own every version of this game. (even got the delisted digital Xbox 360 release) I still hold this game near and dear to my heart. Bless Monke
Yea, I still really like this game! I have to imagine they were at least a *bit* influenced by Trespasser. Especially Minnie Driver's narration and ammo counting. I do recommend anyone interested to play the "Gamer Edition" on PC. King Kong, Condemned, and Far Cry 2 are all great immersive "7th gen" FPS.
Great video! I used to play this game all the time when it first came out! Great memories. Can’t believe it was that long ago. They should definitely give this an HD upgrade.
I played this game so much... I remember having strategies like "ok, I gotta get this gun here instead of this other one. because the other one is better later on" and stuff like that. really fun game
I got this game for the same birthday (christmas maybe? I don't remember) that my family got these rocker chairs with surround sound speakers next to your head and it made the ambient jungle sounds of this game creepy AF lol. I've got a lot of nostalgia for this one!
It's great to know that I'm not the only one who remembers this game I played it so much when I was younger and I also loved the King Kong movie it was based on
This was the first game I ever saw on an Xbox 360. It was at Circuit City, December 2005. The graphics blew me away. I remember the level of detail was unmatched by anything from the previous generation. I get the same feeling when I see today's 4k graphics.
Great video, I still love this game even more than the movie, and it was the first game I ever played that really scared me (but not enough to make me stop playing). I wanna push back on the brontosaurus section though. I always thought the scene in the film was cheesy and lacked any tension, just felt over-the-top and silly to me, whereas the game’s interpretation starts off beautiful and awe-inspiring and then gets tense as you try to avoid being stepped on during the stampede while you also light a path of torches and fend off velociraptors with a shotgun. Trying to multitask in such a unique environment (beautiful yet cramped valley with a stampede of huge dinosaurs) is really engaging and is one of my favorite parts of the game. Also, such an amazing soundtrack.
I remember this game as child and tbh I loved the movie the whole way through, it was really scary as a little kid with all the dinos but in a way that roped me in. It's just the horror of their situation and the alien landscape. TBH I didn't care much for King Kong himself, I was just there for Jack Black and the dinos. The game also hit me pretty and got me going. Glad to see people appreciating this classic. Might have to pick it up and replay it myself for nostalgia sake.
If I could sum up the level of devotion the devs put into this game it could only be PASSIONATE. One of the most underrated games of all time as far as I'm concerned and one of the only games I've played on at least 3 different devices
7:53 "velociraptors" 8:09 "T. Rex" ouch that hurt me right in the fandoms. I wouldn't mind but each has a level called V Rex and Venatosaurus named after them
This Game and The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay we’re some of my favorite games to play during my childhood. It sucks that most people nowadays never heard of these games, or look at me like I’m crazy because they’re movie Tie-in games.

This game was my legit first FPS game, played both on the PS2 and DS.
Wow, I can‘t believe people actually know and like this game! It was my first game on the original xbox and I absolutely loved it. Even my parents, who don’t play video games AT ALL, played the whole game in one night after I went to sleep ^^ It still is one of my favorite games
I played this game all the time as a kid
I didnt played this game for like more than 10 years and i still do remember the levels you shown, this game was really a hidden good game
a Full blown remake of this in the same quality of the recent Resident Evil 2 remake would be mind blowing :D
2 Cvit videos in one week?!? What the hell is happening?!?!?
I’ll take it
it's weird how this game was forgotten cuz I remember at the time reviewers were actually praising it as a great movie liscensed game, I remember playing it on PSP as a kid and thinking it was actually a really good mobile game. to be honest I remember being really impressed by playing basically a full first person game on a handheld
Me, my sister, and cousin love this god damn game and return to it probably every 2 years. It’s crazy how it’s still actually really good.
Dude thank you so much for making a video on one of my favorite games ever. I’ve been speedrunning the game for months and seeing people respect the game is so cool. Loved your video man!
I remember really loving the game back then on gamecube, haven't played it in ages.
Gamecube was so dope with this game!
This game was terrifying at age 8
Love this game.
And that Metal Gear Solid 2 music in your video is a very nice touch.
I haven't forgotten it, i have a pc version, i play it every year. This is a materpiece and a childhood memory. One of the bests!
I absolutely love this game, it’s my favorite game on the PS2 and one of my favorites of all time
Man, I remember you telling me about this video back at MAGFest and I am so happy to finally see it out. Great work!
this actually made me really sad just how time goes by just how my childhood slowly going away
The 360 version definitely looked next Gen at the time. Especially when you saw it on the kiosk. HD tvs were also so new. Great combo.
Complains about length of film.
Me: Hides my Extended Edition from sight.
Every once in a while I'm thinking about this game i used to play on the ps2
Cool to see it again
Bless Monke
rewatched this video. it is dope and how passionate you are about this makes this very enjoyable, good stuff as always man.
Dude thanks for reminding me about this game I remember how much fun I had with it
Yea, I still really like this game!
Thank you! One of the best games i played as a wee lad so thank you for putting a spotlight on it.
It's great to know that I'm not the only one who remembers this game I played it so much when I was younger and I also loved the King Kong movie it was based on
This was the first video game I saw in HD and I was blown away. I had the PS2 version as a kid and I still thought it looked and played great.
This was the first game I ever saw on an Xbox 360. It was at Circuit City, December 2005. The graphics blew me away. I remember the level of detail was unmatched by anything from the previous generation. I get the same feeling when I see today's 4k graphics.
Played it as a kid on PS2. Best dinosaur game I ever played. Incredible atmosphere.
Man this was one of my fav old games, and the first FPS I had ever played.
I wouldn't mind but each has a level called V Rex and Venatosaurus named after them
back to back cvit uploads holy hell christmas came early
This Game and The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay we’re some of my favorite games to play during my childhood. It sucks that most people nowadays never heard of these games, or look at me like I’m crazy because they’re movie Tie-in games.
Ah man loved this game as a kid as well. This one, Red Steel, and God Father were my favorite games to play on my Wii
Spittin mad truth right out of my heart and soul,if nobody makes a remake of this.... i god damn will
“Two magazines on backup”
Was some of Brody’s best line readings
What a blast from the freaking past and another great video, my dude
I remember playing this game and it was so epic. It was a movie game but felt like a AAA experience. Movie games were really good around that time.
I remember playing this game as a child and asking my mom to put the cheat code to unlock the final king kong level every time
