It’s his attention to detail that landed Rashid Williams the gig with John Legend - and his polished playing has been largely responsible for him earning his other gigs, too.
If you want to take your drumming and sound to the next level, watch this lesson on how to tighten up and add that polish. You’ll learn how to identify and focus on the intricate points of drumming, sound smoother, and make your playing crisp and clean.
By problem solving (like identifying a weak left hand, or noticing that you aren’t hitting the center of the drum head), you’ll be able to upgrade your drumming more quickly than you think.
“Confidence is the difference between polished, and not.”

We hope you enjoy Rashid's lesson! 🙂 A lot of people ask about his tom sound and the heads he used. He had Evans G2 clear heads on top, Black chrome heads on the bottom and clear Emads on the floor toms.

Yeah, I can totally see that. I'm a drummer primarily but I play guitar and piano too, and I can see how pretty much anyone who plays music could get something valuable from this lesson. His understanding of his kit is masterful. He's able to translate melody and harmony into his kit and it shows in how simple he keeps his beats. I think it's wonderful to see other musicians/non-drummers getting value from those of us behind the kit. Usually we get all the butt end of the jokes ;P haha. Cheers, m8.

@@onn.studio It''s really not much to do with the brand of the head as much as his ability to hear fine differences in pitch and the mics he's using on the kit. It's also a lot to do with the absorber system he's using to mount his toms on. I do agree however that Evans g2s are pretty fucking good heads, but not as good as coated emperors ;).

Thank you so much for making this video. I'm a lfetime musician and a recently learning drummer. I have the fortune of being able to put serious work into playing, as I am the drummer for a band. A lot of rudimentary drumming and pockets. It has helped tremendously to hone my technique and thought process. Your video has opened my eyes to a lot of simple things I've been doing wrong. From posture all the way to articulation. I've learned so much by watching this and I look forward to more instructional videos from you. Kudos my friend!

I love the emphasis on fine detail and less is more, I’m a real amateur beginner/intermediate drummer and all I can really do within my capabilities is make everything sound right and focus on feel, and especially accents on the hi hat which make a world of difference to the sound, and as mentioned in this video your average listener will enjoy what they are hearing but won’t necessarily know why, and this for me the what it’s all about...
