Looks like James is using a Jigging rap. I would assume those, Vibratos, and Blade Baits would also work great. Jigging spoons, I know some people who use small jigs and wax worms under slip floats.

Thank you for covering Whitefish! I've fished the Great Lakes for over 40 years. My home port is in the UP on Lake Superior in the Porcupine Mountains area. We often target Whitefish, when we know they are around and plentiful, because they fight hard, are plentiful and they taste great. Verticle jigging is best, but we often keep a couple of smaller spoons with# 3 trebles in the spread when we know they are around. The # 3 holds the other fish in the Lake better than a # 4 but is still small enough for Whitefish to inhale. But, hook size is key as well as downsizing a couple spoons. And yes, large salmon and trout will nail a smaller spoon and some days it makes a difference. Structure and humps with baitfish are what to look for.

So blessed to be born and raised in West Michigan here you can Hunt in the fall through December 1st and then gear up for fishing I love this land.

Good info, I can find them thru the ice but cant open water. Also am amazed by the amount of SnowFlake Yuppies crying bout killing the fish. They should go buy their fish and meat from the grocery store, where no animals were harmed...

Probably The Sizes Of The Fish ,And Area Your Fishing . Start my be With Half inch to Five inch Plastic That Looks Like The Local Bait Fish , And Try Spoons Of Different Sizes weights ( half once , One Once Or Micro Jigs Of Different Sizes , And , Colors , Weights ) . . . Obviously There Jigging For The White Fish

They do look like a giant minnow
Please dispatch and bleed out your fish before putting it in the cooler. It's the most humane way and the fish actually taste better.
Its not always expedient to do them one at a time. If we are smashing them we will catch 4 or 5 then bleed them together for efficiency.

These fish have as much omega-3 as those Alaskan salmon, much easy to cook and digest, and comes in 2/3 rd the price of a wild salmon.
Do the same with all fish in warm weather. BUT don't drop a five pound bag of ice on your first fish. Take the ice out of the bag man.

Wow, you put the fish live into your cooler? Talk about cruel! Around here, that is highly illegal...because it's cruel and unusual to a live animal. Kill it first...sheesh.
