Hi! Welcome to my Healthy Hunnies family.

Combining the teachings of Dr. John McDougall’s Starch Solution, Dr. Joel Furhman’s Nutritarian Eat To Live Diet, Dr. Alan Goldhamer, Dr. Doug Lisle, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Michael Greger and more… I’ve trademarked my Slim on Starch® system for weight loss and weight maintenance. I’ve received my certificate through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition which qualifies me to coach individuals. Each client in my Slim on Starch program works with me, as well as my carefully selected team of nutrition coaches who are registered dietitians in their personal practices. Each client also works with a carefully selected team of mindset coaches, whose personal practices stretch from therapists, trauma specialists, addiction specialists, psychologists, health coaches, doctors, personal trainers, and more. If you’re interested in working with me and my team, please visit healthyemmie.org/coaching. I look forward to helping you change your life. You deserve health and happiness.
Weight gain after menopause is not uncommon. My mom was struggling with high cholesterol and extra weight after 50. She did my Slim on Starch Program and at 63 years YOUNG she is feeling amazing! She lost weight and got her cholesterol down. Her focus was to be HEALTHY, and this is the positive side effect of a plant-based vegan diet!

Not sure how I got here but I’m glad I did. Listening to your mom was like listening to the little voice in my heart. I said to my husband yesterday I feel like my body is dragging around 500 pounds of fat and I’m only 15 pounds over my desired weight of 135. My mid section makes me uncomfortable. As someone who is 62 next month, post menopausal for 2 decades, very healthy, very fit, and my ideal weight, I agree that healthy eating is "the" most important thing you can do for yourself. I do eat meat, I believe my DNA requires it as I am from Northern European descent, but I have virtually cut all junk food out of my diet, I don't eat any pastas and very little bread, but quite a bit of fresh fruit and vegies. In fact I have an apple and potato salad for breakfast everyday and two glasses of lemon water with my lunch everyday. I have no qualms refusing junk food at people's houses and it is never a problem. You can actually see the invisible nod as they realize that that might be why I am as healthy as I am. That and the fact that I am very active. The other really important aspect to healthy aging, is to keep learning - never stop learning new things.

@@Jaylade Unfortunately I can't help you there, I live in Canada. In Cambpell River on Vancouver Island off the coast of BC to be specific. Lots of organic farmers and large organic sections in the grocery stores here on the island. I also grow some of my own food amongst my small scale flower farm.

I am of Scandinavian/UK ancestry and I need the protein from meat, sadly, because if I had my way, I would never eat meat again. That being said, I need to lose a lot of weight now so I can hopefully get back to being skinny. I gave up a lot of soft drinks, bread, and pasta and seemed to gain weight so not sure what is happening.

Good for her! I'm 65 and have noticed a big metabolic change in my body this year. I had to get retuned to what my body was telling me. I had to get MOVING every single day by following active exercise regimes and changing my eating habits! I'm feeling and looking better each day. For me I reduced carbs, salt and sugar and exercise at least an hour daily, taking one day off a week to reset. The other big thing that seems to have helped is I set a routine bedtime. 10pm-6am. 👍

First time here, glad I hit the thumbnail. Beautiful presentation & mom-daughter relationship. I relate with mom, esp with husband who doesn’t need to alter his diet much like mine. My blood test came back pre-diabetic, so this is my window to grieve for the snacks I can no longer have. I like that sentiment & opening my heart to new foods/ingredients. And I’m in menopause, so alot of change but I’m ready. Thank you for this timely & gentle video. 💗

Great informative video! Seeing someone (your Mom) talking about her positive experience with this meal plan, etc., was really eye-opening! I know the foods to eat and what not to eat but it sounds like I need to do more to loose this belly fat and extra 10 pounds I'm carrying around! I feel exactly the same way as your Mom, my mid-section is way too big and it doesn't feel like ME! However, it's super difficult to get rid of...I've tried many things but, of course, life gets in the way as in going out to eat, stopping at a fun bar on a walk, parties! I downloaded your free meal plan so I will be looking at that and hopefully get going on loosing this mid-section soon!!!

I have Hashimoto and rosacea and being a single mum of two in the beginning of menopause and sometimes it's really overwhelming...so I find peace in eating for health and not for weight loss.
I haven't meditate before so I am willing to try this out for reducing my stress.

Your mom said she was tall. I am 66 and only 5'1. I have to be extra careful how much food I take in a day. I eat about the same thing and same time every day. Supper may vary, but it is still light. I intermit fasting most days. I am 130, which to some that may seem overweight for my height. I was holding at 125. My body just does not like to be any lower than that. The 5 pounds has nothing to do with food change, but a knee injury which has kept me for many months now going for my long walks. I don't see it, but some family members think I look frail. Although I do know as you get older you look much healthier with a few extra pounds.

Very helpful to remind me how important it is to meal prep. I do meal prep all my vegetable juice drinks. I make a large batch that lasts me 3 days. I also do the same thing for my ginger water. I am going to check out your free meal plan and cookbooks. Thank you for this video.

Namaste! Just landed on your video. I have also been a full-time hospital nurse for 37 years. Menopause hit me hard. I have made drastic dietary changes the last few years. Not overweight, but still struggle to get my stomach flat again & my labs back to premenopause levels. Would love to hear more about your mom's daily routine & meal prep ideas

Would love to see what healthy mommy’s fasting insulin, glucose and HA1C labs are since she’s gets lightheaded if she doesn’t have food after a period of time which suggests poor metabolic flexibility.

Namasté 💚 Q: Have you heard about any concerns about lead being absorbed by root vegetables and passed on to consumer and breast-fed infants? I love my sweet potatoes, yams and potatoes, but LeadSafe Mama just posted about lead found in certain foods. I can’t find any articles about it on McDougall, Greger, pcrm, Campbell’s websites.
