I'll have to check out 'Predators'. I never gave it a chance even though I love the first Predator. Hopefully its better than 'Alien Resurrection' which I watched after it ranked surprisingly high on last week's episode. I guess I'm glad I watched it, but it was utterly ridiculous on all levels.

I saw Commando for the first time recently, and thought it aged even worse than the original Top Gun. (which Maverick SMOKED!) Predator, on the other hand, is essentially everything that I wanted to see in Commando but far more gritty, grounded, and frankly just a higher quality film top to bottom. Classic.

I dig this sci-fi franchise more than any of the others, bcuz they haven't totally effed up the timeline canon beyond repair. Except I don't like that they say this is the first time the Predators visit Earth in the newest movie about to drop. They have a wide open canvas, otherwise, to have them come and hunt during dinosaur Era, Viking Era, Medieval times, all the war eras, from the Revolutionary and Civil to the World Wars and so on. And all the way up to futuristic times with the Aliens. Predators hunting T-Rexes and raptors. It writes itself.

Another great discussion everyone! This takes me back to my days of watching all the big sci-fi/horror/action franchises and Predator was a big one I was into. I remember back in Fall 1997 when Alien Resurrection was about to be released, I got big into the Alien and Predator franchises even buying the comics and playing the Alien Vs Predator game at the local arcade. My ratings: Predator - Still a solid action-monster movie. Sure, it's a Schwarzenegger action movie first and foremost, but it also gives you a great cast of characters to root for and slowly builds the tension as the creature is slowly revealed and ultimately builds it to a great finale between Dutch and the Predator. Much like the marines in Aliens, I like how each character has their own distinct personality and role to play within the proceedings. You also get great quotable dialogue, classic McTiernan-directed setpieces, a great jungle location and finally, one of the coolest movie monsters ever. It's an 80's action movie done right and mostly still holds up. Predator 2/Predators (tie) - I'm not sure which to rate higher or which is better? P2 is a fun mindless monster movie. What makes it fall short of the first is that the characters aren't as likable as the original. Here they're mostly a bunch of disposable cops and they sort of blend into each other. I also feel too many scenes are remakes of portions from the original making it feel like a rehash but in a different setting. Still, I enjoy seeing Glover in one of his few leading roles, the sweaty look they give this "futuristic" 1997 LA, the over the top action, assortment of recognizable actors and gruesome kills throughout. Predators - I dislike how much of it feels like a reboot of the original only set on their gaming planet, but it has a solid cast of character actors who look like they're having fun. I thought it was cool showing the different types of Predators too. Overall, a decent film and much better than the next one. The Predator - Ugh just a terrible, terrible movie. It suffers from way too much goofy humor (not what I look for in a Predator movie), bland characters, choppy action sequences, too much repetition from the previous three films, lamely using an autistic character's abilities like a plot device and a lame retconning of the series mythology. And don't even get me started on how they shamefully reacted to Olivia Munn behind the scenes! Also, why did they bother casting Jake Busey as the son of his father's character from Predator 2 only to waste him completely?

My favorites in the Predator series have always been the first two Predator films. While I liked Predators, however I didn't like the ending as I wanted a happy ending. But I'm glad everyone agreed The Predator was the worst one ever in the series. I really wished 20 Century Fox did another Predator film after Predator 2 then working on AVP. I had a good idea what Predator 3 could have been. Their a 4 issue mini series comic called "Predator Bad Blood" which is about a Predator going against the code of honor and rules as it goes to Earth to kill unharmed people. A Predator is sent to stop it while a ex-soldier is caught in the crossfire between these two Predators and the MIB. Now that would have made a great sequel to Predator 2.

The Predator did not laugh. It was his tech playing a sample of Billy's Laugh. He would sample and manipulate his target's voices to use as kind of a "bird-call" to lure his targets.
At the end of Predator 2 the options of the Weapons available from the colonial era , and Danny Glover could have grabbed Mel Gibson's musket from the Patriot and the Circle ⭕ in now Complete .. Mel Gibson is either a character from Highlander or a fallen Jedi knight... Danny Glover should have Always been Mace Windu in the sequels, John Amos is my favorite pick ,(Good Times) he's alive and can still be involved
Lots of love for the show but feeling they could have done the whole deal including the 2 AvP films for the ranking. It would have matched the amount of films of the last show if this is a kind of follow up.
The original Predator is my favorite action/sci-fi movie ever. Absolute masterpiece. Sonny Landham deserves a mention, as Billy is my favorite character in the movie and Sonny was the biggest badass off all the guys in the cast. Predators and Predator 2 I've only seen once. I remember liking Predators and thinking the second one was quite mediocre. Think I'll stay away from The Predator though.
The Predator giant himself Kevin Peter Hall, was also in a bunch of cult horror movies like Prophecy (1979) and One Dark Night (1982) as well as the Bigfoot in the smash hit Harry and the Hendersons (1987) plus its 1991 spin-off TV series. He sadly died in 1991, only 35.

I grew up watching the first Predator so i'ts the perfect sci-fi macho flick for me. For the folks who think Danny Glover was not right for the role, at least they didn't portray him as a badass, as they did with A.Brodi, which was laughable, plus his Bale's Batman voice he adopted for that role?
I agree on some of the FX in Predator 2 looking cheesy (even by 1990 standards). Like some of facial FX for the creature itself look bad (see: the look of surprise on its face when Danny Glover cuts its hand off near the climax) and it looks very plasticky compared to the convincing look of the creature in the original.
Totally agree... I cannot believe Predator 2 didn't get the love! It's a cocaine fuelled, quotable work of lunacy and genius. Every month we have a predator 2 night... a shot for every Gary Busey line! LOVE IT!

For me the first movie is the only great one. Some neat ideas in Predator 2, but the writing is juvenile and execution is pretty lame and comical. I'll admit I am not a fan of "Franchising" IPs in general. I'm hard pressed to think of a single Sci Fi/ Horror Franchise that I didn't think became crap after the 2nd film. Even the 3rd Star Wars FIlm is 80% lame.
The Predator is a hot mess. I enjoyed it though for shitz n giggles and watched it with a pal as part of a pre Christmas tipsy double bill with Planes, Tranes and Automobiles. I actually switched off Predators due to bad CGI. Should revisit. The original Predator is of course AMAZING. Ps. I dig 2 but it's interesting that it came out around the same time as Marked For Death. 20th Century Fox must've had it in for Rastafarians back then.

The original Predator is my favorite action/sci-fi movie ever. Absolute masterpiece. Sonny Landham deserves a mention, as Billy is my favorite character in the movie and Sonny was the biggest badass off all the guys in the cast.
Predators and Predator 2 I've only seen once. I remember liking Predators and thinking the second one was quite mediocre. Think I'll stay away from The Predator though.
The Predator giant himself Kevin Peter Hall, was also in a bunch of cult horror movies like Prophecy (1979) and One Dark Night (1982) as well as the Bigfoot in the smash hit Harry and the Hendersons (1987) plus its 1991 spin-off TV series. He sadly died in 1991, only 35.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 If I remember correctly we even see his face in the movie (Predator, that is), as he was the pilot in the chopper at the end. Didn't know he died so young, that's sad.
I grew up watching the first Predator so i'ts the perfect sci-fi macho flick for me. For the folks who think Danny Glover was not right for the role, at least they didn't portray him as a badass, as they did with A.Brodi, which was laughable, plus his Bale's Batman voice he adopted for that role?

I agree on some of the FX in Predator 2 looking cheesy (even by 1990 standards). Like some of facial FX for the creature itself look bad (see: the look of surprise on its face when Danny Glover cuts its hand off near the climax) and it looks very plasticky compared to the convincing look of the creature in the original.

Aliens V Predator was good. The others after, not so much...
For me the first movie is the only great one. Some neat ideas in Predator 2, but the writing is juvenile and execution is pretty lame and comical.
I'll admit I am not a fan of "Franchising" IPs in general. I'm hard pressed to think of a single Sci Fi/ Horror Franchise that I didn't think became crap after the 2nd film.
Even the 3rd Star Wars FIlm is 80% lame.

The Predator is a hot mess. I enjoyed it though for shitz n giggles and watched it with a pal as part of a pre Christmas tipsy double bill with Planes, Tranes and Automobiles. I actually switched off Predators due to bad CGI. Should revisit. The original Predator is of course AMAZING. Ps. I dig 2 but it's interesting that it came out around the same time as Marked For Death. 20th Century Fox must've had it in for Rastafarians back then.
I know everyone recalls the Predator franchise consisting of 4 films or 6 if you include Alien/Predator 2 films but everyone forgets the 7th and perhaps most disturbing in the franchise .....One Hour Photo.!!
