Thank you for this lovely interview. You do not expect a 23-year actor to go through that, especially if you started from the top.
I am glad he stayed in movies in some other form. I did not realize that the production started before the pandemic, started auditioning again but kept getting rejected. That was a rollercoaster of emotions that he had to relive.
I hope he gets more roles and will keep acting until his 90s.

Man how in the hell does Hollywood say this guy doesn't have what it takes for a role, Those jackasses! Here's to you Brotha Quan, I hope these next years are filled with many roles and awards as you deserve them.

He was such a major part of my childhood, with Goonies, and Temple of Doom... I'm so happy for him, amazing talent. We should have gotten so many amazing roles from him over the years, if not for how Hollywood operates.. Here's to opening this is just the beginning of greater work to come from him.

Because there is a weird hate twords Asian actors for some reason. To Hollywood it's mostly white and black people. They pretend to be diverse but they really aren't.

"Wow, Ke, you're in this movie a LOT!" - that must have been so gratifying for his family, knowing he was struggling and FAILING even to get 2-line parts before, and is now a lead in a movie that became A24's most successful film ever.

Hollywood patting itself on the back for Ke Huy Quan's comeback, as if Hollywood wasn't responsible for the circumstances that made him give up on his acting career in the first place, is pretty hilarious.

As an Asian performing artist as well, it’s difficult to catch a break in the industry. You can see the representation of Asian performers in mainstream media is slowly increasing and more opportunities. Ke Huy really performed phenomenally. The character of Waymond was also so well written. I hope he has more roles and I get to see more of his work. His passion for acting really shows. Congratulations again Ke Huy!

i grew up watching the movies he was in and when i got older i was confused that i didnt see him in anything after that while many of his costars from back then went on to have adult careers in film. to say i was elated when i found out he was in Everything Everywhere All At Once would be an understatement. he brought such joy and love to that role and hes finally getting his flowers after all this time and i could not be happier for him. i hope to see him in many more projects in the future 🥺🥺🥺

This guy has the charisma, energy, enthusiasm, and spontaneity of a great actor, which Steven Spielberg saw immediately when he cast him in Raiders of the Lost Ark, saying that Quan blew away everyone in the room when he auditioned. Too bad the rest of Hollywood passed on him for years--audiences missed out on so many great movies he could have been in. It really was rough, and still is rough, for actors and actresses who happen to be Asian or any minority for that matter.
I mean, the guy's American. Think of all the British, Australian and Irish foreigners who got good roles and became stars in Hollywood, like Crowe, Brosnan, Kidman, Tom Holland, Saoirse Ronan, Andrew Garfield...while Americans of Asian or Latin descent fought to get even speaking roles, much less lead roles.

Why didn’t Steven ever give him another role as he became a struggling adult actor? Plenty of directors work with the same actors multiple times on different projects. He’s very grateful to Steven for his breakout role and I totally get that, but Steven discarded and ignored him after that like the rest of Hollywood

I think the story was after he didn't get any more roles, he lost his confidence as an actor so decided to study film and go behind the camera since he still have lots of passion for the film industry. In that sense he took himself out of the acting circle since there were hardly any acting offers.
He only came back and got an agent again after he saw Crazy Rich Asian and realised that maybe there might be a chance for him to get back in.

I don't think that's fair to them. Ke had consciously moved on with his life into a different area of entertainment. Lee or Woo might not have noticed him, or if they had wondered about him, they might have surmised he was happier doing stunt work. I'm sure many people recognized him from the child roles and pestered him about returning over the years. Ke had to be the one to take the first step when he was ready to take a chance again.

Ang Lee and John Woo were pioneers changing the movie scene to include diversity. And even if so, these directors do not make enough movies to cater all of the asian actor. This is not about actors of asian ethnicity, this is about opportunity in Hollywood not creating these jobs for asians.
