      I've set up a few Deco systems for friends in the last few years, all of them wired, and performance has been excellent.
      In fact a pair of Deco M5 units replaced an Asus router in one case, with excellent results.
      The wireless backhaul "mesh" features should only really be used where it's impossible to get ethernet to your access points.

    Personally, if there is already ethernet ran to multiple points of the house in the ceiling, I think it would have made a lot more sense to use access points that are mounted up there. You would get better performance since each AP would have wired connection and since the AP is blasting the signal downwards from up there. Seems like a wasted opportunity since all the hard part (running the cables through walls) had been done already.

    • @D3R3bel

      This basically. I live in singapore where wifi mesh is being advertised everywhere by the ISP, but because everybody lives in concrete flats, wifi mesh networks get significantly degraded by the time it reaches the master bedroom. However using ethernet backed mesh networks, every single room can basically hit 1gb/s down on speedtest with no sweat.

    • @Shadowner83

    I don't have the X20 - I think they're too expensive but I do have the M4. I have five of them. The great thing is that you can just buy more to put in or near places where you notice a signal drop / weak signal. Really cool product and it finally fixed my wifi problem at home. And to think before that I just tried using regular plug in the wall extenders.

Whenever i see a tech tuber buy a new old school router I scratch my head and I don't understand why they still buy those. I'm sure there is a good reason for it. I use one of the three in my computer room and directly plug it into my pc and get the full speed that I pay for on my pc. I can't imagine using anything else since i've made the switch to mesh wifi years ago.

    @take5DD Рік тому

    OK. Some things that I noticed here. You set up the first one and it gave you 380mbps. I'm thinking you don't have gig service. You probably have 500mbps. If you had gig service and you're only getting 380, then this thing is worthless. The 2nd one you got 265mbps. The signal degraded quite a bit. That's a 30% degradation. Then the 3rd location (and you stood next to it) you got 211mbps. That's a 44% degradation. That's not great. I would expect that if you got 380m, that you would get around the high 300m for the other two. I could be wrong, but the whole purpose of the Mesh Network is having the same speed at all locations of the house. This thing is better than your stock router. But then again, I am not sure why they stuck that thing inside an enclosed box. That just adds a barrier between the antenna and your devices.
