Wow I've crossed thousands and thousands of miles upon the ocean on a sailboat. I did not realize you didn't have handholds at that point I've had that for years good choice.
Are your handrails stainless steel and uncoated? Like my bow pulpit and stern rails? Slipperiest thing imaginable when wet. Sometimes it seems sailing is hidebound in traditions. So much room for innovation
Nice! You popped up in my feed and I hadn't seen your vid in a couple of years! Watching you change one light reminded me of how nice that would be. I an an installer and just put in 600 speakers, 50 computers, 1500 lights and more! One light sounds about right right now! Travel on.
Hello Sam, so you finally seem to got the handrails from Biltema, I placed some rough black tape round those for better grip, when they are wet, and also bolted through, safe sailing. Br. Esko
So. Skipper. Nearly two and a half weeks at virtual sea one arrived in The Azores and Porta Del Gato, this morning. Had set off from Brighton Marina, UK and past by Finesterre.
I've got an Achilles dinghy too, just like yours. 40 years old! Just starting to get some pinhole leaks here and there. I think it rows really well for an inflatable.
I just bought a red one, with the wrap around pontoon- it holds air great but… the bottom is terrible. Just bought $100 worth of Weaver glue and some hypalon,, but really there are So many tiny holes. Not sure.
G'day Sam. Can you give us an overview of the bottom of the boat after having installed the ultrasonic antifouling turned out ?. And would you recommend installing such a kit on our boats ?. Gerard.
It's so wild to see all my favorite sailing people get into rc and fpv and my rc people messing with boats. Sick drone spot! Can't wait to see some more freestyle!
I think that’s a good solution. I was thinking that technically you can only do the tri light while Sailing though so you’d need a second set for motoring. Or maybe I’m wrong. I suppose I could always use my removable battery lights for that.
I remember you fitted an electronic device to reduce marine growth some time back. Has that worked well because you did not seem to have much growth at the haul out ?
Good job Tony & Nick, in Helping with the Pickled Herring's windlass. Young Samuel is a goin' son-of-a-gun. He has lovely ladies to endure & enjoy, as well as a multitude of other interests besides sailing. While there's energy & interest, Pursue Them All❗ 🙏🦉 🌅⛵
Call back to the Calypso wind instrument... I ordered one awhile ago, and initially I was having connection problems as well, my phone and tablet saw it but would not reliably connect. Then one day as I was cleaning up my phone I noticed the update app was still on my phone. It don't remember if it was active or not, but since supposedly I had already updated the sensor (the update app had no trouble with pairing etc) I uninstalled the update app(presumably not the update). Anyhow sensor is pairing easily now (45' mast from inside cabin) and giving lots of data. It's pretty cool when it's working....of course only time will tell. Thanks as always for the sailing vids. I accidentally drilled some holes in my hull below the water line, making limber holes, I was on the hard , but it was comforting to know I had perhaps surpassed even the notorious Sam Holmes in boat hole making.
Thats great to hear. Mine finally stopped working completely last year. I liked it when it worked but it was pretty rarely staying connected while I was sailing and now its dead. I’ll do a wired one in the future.
Ahhhh Malta, one of the lovelyest places I have ever been. I can't wait to eventually sail there. Please please give lots of footage and reports of your time there.. :D
Manoel Island and the bay around it is the shape of a Carthaginian military port. (could be Greek or even Roman - not sure at what point everyone copied them)
Sam loved the video I have been following for few years. This video just seem like going fast on clips and the drone, I really enjoyed everyone drone shots but this one it was like fast forward with a crash helmet. lol cant wait to see next weeks video. Get pickle Herring ready for next year sir.

LOL Before you even said "Popeye movie," I was already having flashbacks to childhood from watching it about a million times as a boy thank you for making this old man feel young again, Sam!
Many sailboats have solar panels, sometimes a small windmill and the engine is also used to charge the batteries, but I wonder why I never see a boat with a kind of an underwater mill. With that you could use the current of the water, while sailing, to generate energy and charge the batteries. Or is that a stupid idea? What do you think about this, Sam (or someone else)?
€552 for the haul out, wash and relaunch but it also let me store the boat for much cheaper than the marinas we’re charging around there and I needed to leave the boat for a month.
The hotell is not abandoned. It has a 1000 clients every single day! It is a well loved scheeme all around the Med sea to white wash cash and avoid taxes. There is a 1000 half finished projects only in Turkey!
Hi Sam ...i am also considering taking my paragliding kit with me when i eventually go off travelling on my boat. My question is, has storing your glider aboard long term had any negative effects on the materials, ie the lines and condition of your reserve etc? Did you get to fly in Chamonix, its an awsome place to fly? Cheers Jon 👍
i’ve got one flight in Chamonix. it was pretty cool. i keep my gliders in a giant sealine dry bag. they seem ok from the sea life. they’ve probably got too many flights and hours though and should probably be retired soon.
@@SailorJasonTaylor In my opinion, not if you don't receive any monetary or other gains. However, I understand your perspective. Thank you for the reply.

I think its the 28 foot cape dory. Sam likes full keels and tell you what I don't blame him one bit. I was near cape horn many years ago on a 40 foot steel ketch and tell you what we were on the East side of it around 50 South & it was pretty nasty. The skipper of that boat was around it a coupla times that I know of maybe more. He was an old salt about 20 years my senior. This was in the early 60's when I was young like bull. The waves down there are humongous and especially if you're beating against them but this skipper just didn't seem to care. Not me.
