    Really do not appreciate how much work goes into building custom pillars. Would not know where to start without you sharing this ... I know first hand how much filming slows the job down, so appreciate the effort you make even more.... thanks for another amazing fabrication master class Peter

    Just an excellent video of a well-built perfectly executed set of pods. Obviously you spend a lot of time and thought so you can get the most out of the space you have to get the best Imaging and separation.. I love the use of fullrange speakers and it gives me just a wonderful feeling that these are working as well as they are. Even through your phone's microphone you can tell the clarity as if there was a tweeter involved.
    Peter thank you for these videos and the time it takes for you to put them up! I promise you it's not a waste!

      I am in the same boat as you are. My Passat B6 has the base midbass-tweeter front and back. I have upgraded the radio, added an old SH 6 channel amp to power the front + a cheap JL 12w0 sub and the sound changed for the better already (yes, amplified stock speakers). What I do wish would be for the midrange to pop out better, rather than having to push the door speakers using the EQ.
      My issue is that I don't know if pods could be built with basic tools or should I just use the stock position for the midrange located lower in the door.
      Good luck with your build mate!

      They run of a Alpine PDX V9 atm, but they’ll have a Helix E20 behind them soon. The car was let go with a 80Hz 12dB setting to let the speaker run in. I wouldn’t advise to run the RG100 lower then 150Hz 24dB on higher listening levels, plus in that car there’s not much response under 125Hz out of them anyway. Also, they are not meant to do kickbass duties, but with a well installed 6-8” driver they can easily integrate!

    Happy Days was a goofy old television show that was on in the 70's in the states peter haha anyways i like seeing the different materials you use,im curious about the blue colored material,no not the tape haha. was it fiberglass mixed with something else ? im going to be doing a set of 3 inch with tweeters this summer and i like the design of these.im curious if it would sound different if i used some wood in my build along with fiber glass and bondo filler ,i dont have the milk shake stuff,but im actually going to be trying something new this time around so we'll see.

      ok i did it peter,i got the pioneer 99 omg its awesome totally worth the money,i went with 3 inch dayton audio rs75 i believe thats the ones,i had to aim them quite high up about 12 inches forward from the dome light so it was a night mare building these pillars but it was worth it.i am now tuning each day and getting better,the imaging is right in the center,but i think something is missing,not quite sure if its the natural sound i want or a little more clarity haha yea so im working with eq settings,i also bought a 2005 chevy 2 door blazer so im building a huge bass system in it.for fun.cheers buddy

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  4 роки тому +2

      Corsa Pilotti any wideband without a tweeter has to stay within 20degree on-axis if you want to hear the top-end detail, you can not cheat physics!
      Other option is to use the windscreen’s reflection.

    Same with building a midrange RG 100. If I want to play 3 way, should I add Super Twitter or just Twitter RG 50?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  8 місяців тому

      How high up you can play the RG100 depends on the location and install and only after that you could tell properly what tweeter would be the best, what range the tweeter would need to play.

    What's your opinion on a sealed enclosures vs. infinite baffle A pillars? Would you do sealed enclosures every time if you had enough room to do so, or is the difference so marginal that it isn't worth the bit of extra time and work to do sealed? I'm currently starting to fabricate my own and before I cut the bottom half of the pillars off I'd like to know your opinion. I have enough space to mold sealed pods, just wanted to get your opinion of the sq difference between both ways from what your ears hear? Thanks!

    • @b.ramquist8704
      @b.ramquist8704 3 роки тому +1

      I dont have extreme high end 3" drivers, but they are wideband and are able to play from 200 Hz to 20k, and I'd like to get the best out of them. I imagine it gives you a tighter sound which I love, but you lose a little on the low end doing sealed pods. I just wanted to know your opinion sir. Thanks again, lol. I'll shut up now, ha.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  3 роки тому +1

      You can loose bottom end and have a larger peak above the roll off point in a small pod for a mid, hence i usually make pillar builds open back, so they can breathe. Watch one of the last videos showing pillar fabrication, that also explains few things.
      In this case these 4” widebands would have had too chunky looking pillars and the dash was flat, so we built these pods instead, which could also be sealed up as they seemed large enough for the required job.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  4 роки тому +3

      Destaye it all depends on the crossover point and slope. If you run it fullrange, then 20W is plenty, but if you cross it 150-200Hz 24dB/oct, then you can pair it with a 100-150W amp channel as in reality you never use more than 10-20W anyway.

      If you can give everything for these RG100s, the result is on a whole different level! They can run tweeterless, whereas the Focals might only be able to run upto 5-7kHz and they can also cover an octave lower than the Focals.
