Yes showing mistakes in dog training is important, but this is not what Zak George does. Showing that your new puppy has a few accidents in the house, or that a younger dog gets excited about a person/dog walking by is a great way to teach your dog what not to do, as well as inform other dog owners about what to do in that situation.
But Zak George, who is supposed to be a professional dog trainer, is showing his personal dog showing severe possessiveness, and being completely unable to deal with the situation. He continuously puts her into environments where she will fail, then because he won't tell her no, she has no idea what she did wrong.
Inertia has tried to bite both him and his wife, shows possessiveness with several different resources, lunges at everything that moves, still pulls on the leash, and still has a hard time giving Zak any kind of attention while distractions are present. This is not someone showing their dog making mistakes, which many other good dog trainers do, it is someone showing that they are completely incapable of training a well balanced dog.

I appreciate the reality of your training. Others make it look like all problems are solved in two weeks, and then we go home and struggle. Thanks for illustrating that the struggle is real, and we don't have to be shamed, and we have fun as we overcome the problems. Thanks Zak for making it real.

MOST of the trainers show their super-well-super-calm dogs and I was thinking "ok, my dog'll never be like this" and now I could see my dog is not such bad, this is a normal dog with normal problems! I completely agree! It's also discouraging if new owners (like myself) only see videos of trainers using well-behaved pups, because then it gives us false standards and we feel like we're doing it all wrong.

    • @oreoloafcake6084
      @oreoloafcake6084 2 роки тому

Same! I don’t want a tutorial from a dog who’s already rigidly trained, but from a normal average pup living in the moment and actually acting like a dog because that’s where you, as a learner, are coming from. Otherwise you’re not ‘teaching’ anything. In the moment training on flawed learning dogs is 1000% easier to pick up than watching someone’s robotic movement with their robotic pet
Like dude, how do I know if I’m doing something wrong, if YOUR dog is only listening because he’s already mastered this? I need to see the dog’s learning process. Not just you showing the result.

Immediately, right from the start of this video, you had my attention. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you showing the reality of having a dog that’s reacting to the environment, and that you too have to work through the training process. It’s very encouraging.
There are far too many training videos out there that show dogs that already know how to perform the actions they are supposedly being “trained” to do. It’s discouraging when my dog doesn’t respond the same way that their dogs do.
Far too many trainers think that they need to show perfection, or near perfection - that perfection shows what fantastic trainers they are. Those of us who live in reality aren’t fooled by this one bit, but we DO end up discouraged and deflated.
THANK YOU for having the courage to show the reality that many of us are going through. We notice the small wins, and can appreciate the minor successes that add up over time. We just need someone willing to work through these issues WITH us.

Our final night walk she barked 5 minutes straight, I dont even know why, she has super hearing and vision. I really admire the positive mindset and patience you have with your dog. I am really struggling, I live in a studio apartment, live in the middle of a super busy city. No garden, people and danger constantly on the street. Dont know how to start practicing with her in a calm environment. I hope somehow she will react and bark less.

I’m really enjoying see your reactivity work! My GSD pup is fearful reactive around other dogs. His reactivity distance is about 40-50 ft. Now that he is 60lbs, his “big boy” bark sounds “aggressive” to others. However as his owner, I know his different barks & body language. He’s definitely not aggressive, just unsure & slightly scared. We think something traumatized him as puppy (his first 8 weeks of life), before we got him from the breeder. I enjoy watching these videos to show how engaging you have to be when dealing with high energy reactive dogs. They are not bad dogs, you just have to understand how to redirect their attention.

It can also be due to your energy or actions. I don’t mean this in a bad way. My Great Dane was naturally anxious, but I’ve realized that my anxiety a lot of the time causes her reactivity because she feels like she’s protecting herself and me. I do feel your pain. My Dane is a big suck, but Danes naturally have extremely deep barks and it terrifies everyone. We’ve had people tell us they’re going to call animal services on us.

I have a Boxer Husky mix thats almost 10 months old now. I’ve had him since he was 6 months old and as a 17 yr old, i’ve been trying to train him the best way that i can. I’ve been thinking about taking him to a professional trainer nearby because i have that same exact problem. Around other dogs, he barks and lunges all the time. Even at home while he’s in the backyard, he barks at absolutely EVERYTHING including the kids next door. Ik dogs are natural protectors but he barks way too much. Especially inside the house. He barks even when i just sit down because he wants attention or if i leave the room, which i believe is anxiety. He barks so much, for so long, its annoying. Especially the puppy biting- I have no idea what to do atp about the barking. I’ve been taking him on walks almost everyday in the morning, i’ve given him big treats to keep him occupied, and play with him but he continues to bark all the time. Any tips? I’ve owned a Gsd husky mix and a jack russel rat terrier mix before. I’ve never met such a loud and over energetic dog in my life. He’s a good boy but jeez louiseeee😭

Zak, thank you for showing us what it looks like to commit to our dogs during the hard times and working with their natural instincts rather than against them. I feel the social pressure to shut my dog up / keep my dog inside out of fear of upsetting others or making them feel uncomfortable, but we need to let that go and not be afraid of being embarrassed for the sake of the long term goal: a happy and confident pup! Much love to you and Inertia, and much gratitude for all you do. Your passion is palpable. Thank you for sharing your gift with us!

    • @groaning620

I have the same problem, except the barking. Our dog only listens to me, and I tell them that if they want him to listen, they should interact with him more and do what I say. They only pet and snuggle with him which isn't bad, but I also want them to interact with him in different ways so they can have a better time with our puppy. And it's annoying that when he does something naughty, I tell them to patiently direct his attention to something else, instead they do the opposite.
Update: I've just had a long conversation with my family on his naughty behavior, and getting real fustrated, they don't listen to my advice AT ALL! (Almost ended up crying) my aunt ended up smacking his face when he was playing with the water. I don't know what to do and I can't continue to train unless they start litstening to my advice with training. Each day they get more and more impatient, and i'm starting to lose mine with them. I just want them to treat him with the same attitude, and be more positive. It also doesn't help that my baby sister abuses him, i'm trying to tell my aunt to teach her to stop but....no luck. I'm at my wits end, any help?

My 5 month old border collie, August, wasn’t able to go for his first walk outside until lockdown started in the uk. But now when we go out he stands on his hind legs to try and pull towards people and if a dog comes near him he gets scared and will pull to get away from them. I try and keep calm around all situations so August doesn’t get any negative emotions from me. But no matter how much I try to distract him or get him to focus on me he doesn’t listen and continues to try and pull towards people. He looks quite intimidating to people when he stands like a meerkat and I don’t want people to be worried about him as he is a sweetheart. I’m also having issues with him jumping up at people but it’s hard to get him not to jump up when I’ve got to keep a social distance to people. He’s barking constantly at night and I feel like any progress I’ve made with him when he was younger has reversed. He can sit and lay down but is starting to ignore me if he doesn’t want to. Trying to get him to heel feels impossible as he jumps to try and get a treat so I can’t get him to heel next to me. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I see a lot of comments on people appreciating how real and candid these videos are. I just wanted to add that not only does it make us not give up and all, but it also is really informative. Sometimes progress is VERY slow, and I wonder if I'm making any progress at all, or if maybe I am doing something wrong in my training. The short cropped videos most trainer's make are very helpful if you want to get the specific information on what to do with your dog and how to train, but these longer uncut ones show you what it looks like if you are doing it right. I think all videos should be like this, so we know we're doing it right and we just need patience. Thankyou!
