My husband would get upset when I conplimented him or said positive things. He told me they were "embarrassing".
    He's left me since then.
But now my kid does the same. They told me my positivity was "toxic positiviity."
This put me in a tailspin.
I think there's some positivity whose purpose is to shut down complaints and talk. And other positivity that's meant to reframe bad things into positove things so it's easier to accept them.
I'd love to understand more: if I'm trying to be positive 5 times after a negative, is that forced? Is that fake?

If their self confidence isn't high they could see it as fake, but over exaggerated positives are taken as toxic because they feel false.
"You have the most amazing body I have ever seen" is.. well it sounds fake unrealistic for most of us.
"You have the most amazing hair I've ever seen"
Is actually a realistic conversation.. especially if you touched their hair for some reason.
