Incredible video dude! I looove your channel. I suspect the sub count will greatly balloon in the near future. This species is insanely cool. I saw a guy find some of these in the wild on one of those Aussie herping channel. Wild weird creature. Bizarre beast. Those crucifix frogs down undah are really neat, too. Australia is mindblowing

@@LukeMcGuireoides I grew up with VCRs too, though and it didn't look like this. The actual VHS lines etc were tolerable, but I can only make it a couple of seconds in when people use this type of attempted simulation that's in everyone's FX packs these days; very painful on the eyes. This video looked like it was going to be so interesting, too. Cool animated characters.😞

The Suriname toad would be a great subject. Just a general overview of dart frogs. There's the south American frog so tiny that it doesnt have an inner ear and it just flies through the air and tumbles like a peddle when it lands. Sooo many cool herps out there. Mata Mata turtles are awesome.

Herps have a high tolerance for inbreeding. It takes a while before it becomes a problem, from what I understand. You can line breed multiple generations with no problems.

Evolution of complete metamorphosis inside the egg most likely didn't happen "to" fit any current living conditions where this is strictly necessary, "unless" we can safely posit it's a simple single-mutation thing that even happens in some other frogs somewhere but tends to disappear or be rare. Rather we'd have it evolving for some random other reason and then allowing for an existing niche that's dependent on it, maybe even some kind of gradual intermediate niches, I don't know.
There used to be a frog, went extinct in the 80s or 70s or so, that "give birth orally," I believe the male would "swallow" the fertilized eggs and fully developed froglets would be puked eventually. I believe there are also some arboreal frogs that skip the tadpole stage or have it inside eggs. In the other direction, there's this weird frog whose tadpole can be larger than the fully matured adult, and it even kind of modulates how long it lives as a tadpole depending on the environment, it develops faster into an adult in temporary ponds, whereas it grows larger and spends more of its lifetime as a tadpole in permanent ponds. I assume that's known to really be triggered by environmental factors, not genetic selection of different regional variants of the same species that would develop at the same rate/way even if transported to a different place.
Anyway, all of those seem to be related to different "strategies" for environments with more or less water, I'd guess it's possible that drier environments push for faster development/less time as tadpole, and even skipping it altogether, which would then allow for it to populate regions where the tadpole stage wouldn't even have any way to live at all. Some arboreal species have tadpoles on big leaves or any watery "ponds" on tree branches, though, if I recall, but likely different species from that one which skips it, unless developmental adaptability/malleability is rather common.

Ohhh, yeah, the Suriname toads are one of the grossest animals in existance, with that ridiculous reproduction cycle. I've always them endlessly compelling and cool but super gross at the same time. Serpa Design has a pair he's trying to breed. I didn't even know they could be kept as pets.
