How about we call fitty and ask him if he would be willing to get shot with a .45 to see if he can survive 9 shots. I think he would consider it. It's for a good cause...
I came across this video after I've already had my ACP45 for a year. As much as both are great options I still love my .45 (reservations are held until I try the officer 9mm)
I'm going to go ahead and say 99.8% of the population aren't "pinpoint" shooters under stress. So...dream big, if you're gonna dream, I guess(eye roll)
Shooting skills aside.. 45 seems to arguably the winner for Self defense.. bigger boolit, bigger punch, bigger hole in the bad guy. For range fun, plinking, target shooting I dont need the bazooka and expense ( price a bigger issue pre-covid ammo prices ) . 9mm for recreation, and is acceptable for SD especially if one becomes proficient and accurate.. [IMHO] ..
i may be wrong about this, but i feel like 9mm would be better for self defense because generally a normal person in that situatuion is just going to start blasting away especially if your getting shot at. seems like it would be better to hold more ammo and put fire down more easily. now if your trained on use with the .45 im sure you could be just as effective if not more. only thing is most people dont train every weekend with their handguns, so 9mm is better for an untrained hand, .45 is more effective in a trained hand.
It's about shot placement. The differences between 9mm and .45 are insignificant. If your not hitting your target in vitals your not 'stopping power' anybody.
Average self defense situation is 3 rounds in 3 seconds from 3 yards away. If you can do that with a 45 ACP you have a better shot than doing it with 9mm. You will not have time in the average scenario to full get your eyes on the sights so shot placement is the myth here. It will come down to reaction time and luck. I'll take the 45.
great vid! i own several glocks (I thought i was a glock guy) and have never really shot others until recently I got a chance to shoot some hks, some sigs, and a 1911(all in 9mm). I liked how the hks shot better than my glocks, and the sigs better than the hks... but the range officer in 9mm... i'm getting one even if i have to sell my glocks! it's a no brainer.
The body is about 70% water (non compressible) now shoot a one gallon jug with a 9mm and a 45acp, say a speer gold dot, then tell me which makes a bigger splash. Bar the triangle head shot the body that leaks out first looses. the 45 will do more soft tissue damage than the 9mm just on pure physics alone. just look at the number of jell block tests, 45 generally shows a larger wound cavity. It really boils down to personal preference and tactics, both calibers have their pros and cons.
it s all matter of grouping the shots. I have a Sig 9mm 1911 elite match. Especially because the bullets in Belgium are quite expansive. 9 mm is almost two times cheaper than the .45 ACP. if you go to the range, 9 mm is really great to shoot, lot of fun and cheap. for personal def, if you can shoot fast with a .45 that s cool but I personally find easier to shoot fast with a 9 mm caliber. This being said, I m sure that even a 9 mm hollow point as a high stopping power. But what about having the highest stopping power if you don t know how to group your shots within 2 inches! my personal point of view obviously!
My right out the box was staying open when I rack the slide without a mag it looks like it was sticking because I would just have to push it with my finger and it would lock up no problem but it did it on me for about 10 -15 times
The cost difference on bullets is really not that much. I'm getting 115gr 9mm bullets for about $38/500, and 200gr .45 bullets are around $50/500. I guess over time it adds up, but the price difference is actually less than 25%.
I went hunting with one and shot a goat. The .45 ACP went through his neck and the animal kept running. If it had been a human it would have had plenty of time to shoot me. Lesson shoot with a rifle or shotgun and have the sidearm as a backup.
if your going to kill a Goat don't shoot it in the neck,,shoot the side of the chest cavity and the .45acp would've dropped it like a rock I assure you
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the 9mm, it's a great caliber and if you're able to put accurate shots on target, you won't have a problem with a 22. I carried a .45 for awhile, before switching to a Glock 19. Now I'm planning on getting the Glock 30S or SF, since I moved up north. If denim and winter coats are gonna fill up my hollow points and prevent them from expanding properly, I might as well have a bigger piece of ball ammo going through my target, but I would not at all feel more endangered by carrying a 9mm. Hell, on hot days I still sometimes pocket carry a Snubnose .32.
John Doe, I own a 32 cal. semi auto. The recoil is very mild. I would compare it to a 380 cal.(I also own a Glock 42 single stack 380), so no problem with muzzle flip. The original James Bond's PPK was a 32.
A 45. Will is powerfull as hell i agree i own a 1911 as well and its not like i wouldent use it if i had to if u know what i mean! But i would say to anyone who says a 9 mil is almost equal to some pea shooter is either mis informed or just jaded! I have 145 grain plus p hollow points in 9mm and a standered 45 acp is what 200 some odd grain in weight , we are arguing semantics almost i belive a man is equaly safe with a 9mm with a 15 round capacity then a 45 with 8 round capacity!
I know this comment is old af, but I personally carry a 45, I do own 9s but I prefer the 45. I know that 9s arent pea shooters, but understand that they dont have the power of the 45. Typical 9 is around 230 ftlbs, with self defense getting up to about 300 or so. My 45 training ammo STARTS at 350, and its watered down cheapo stuff. My EDC ammo is pushing around 530 ftlbs, and I have other ammo by buffalo bore that makes a ridiculous 805 ftlbs. I've seen what both of these rounds are capable of, and saying that kinetic energy doesn't matter is ignorant.
@@slamongo But in combat when 3 or 4 bad guys attack u .45 is better choice, u need only to shoot them once with .45 and they are down for sure.. But when u shot 9 mm the enemy can take multiple shot and still be dangerous
nice vid. what i'm wondering, as an old out of touch guy, is why in many vidios i watch every one wants to shoot as fast as they can. we used to call that '' spray and pray ''. what ever happened to a proper sight picture and good trigger squeeze. the fight goes to the first hit more than it goes to the most rounds fired in my personal view. bottom line is both guns will do the job with proper shot placement. so will the 22 long rifle. the old dudes use to kill a cow for butchering with a 22 short.
Because Rob Latham is one of the best if not THE best at competition. In competition the clock is part of the score. You'll also notice neither of the two gentleman is spraying and praying since they never missed.
Has anybody personally been shot with both? Lol. I want to know which is best for home def / concealed carry. Home i want one to mount a stun light on and concealed either nothing or a laser.
Heres how I see it... 9mm- moderate, fast recoil .45 ACP- moderate, slow recoil I honestly am a big proponent of the 9mm, I like 45 but I dont love it. Cheers
If the people demonstrating the gun are trying to use objective test and rather than stopping shooting when they need to to conclude the test continue firing just because they're having fun then it makes their entire demonstration pointless and a waste of time.
Cost is irrelevant to most people that are using for self defense. Where I live, I'm limited to 10 rounds max, so the capacity is irrelevant. Now in my situation, is a 9mm more superior still? I shoot both equally as accurate, I've sent thousands of rounds of both calibers down range and the 45 recoil is a push not a snap. As soon as you take away capacity and cost advantage, the 9mm is more bark than bite.
Javik It’s like this, just like buying a high horsepower car, if you’re worried about the price of the fuel for it you don’t need the car! Just saying.
How does the recoil of the 9mm 1911 stack up to a mild 45 ACP load? I ask because in competition, isn't the 45 ACP down-loaded to "gamer" loads that only have enough oomph to cycle the slide reliably?
C Gonzo I was thinking the same exact thing. I absolutely love 9mm, I've got three glocks in 9mm. But there's is something about having a 1911 that isn't .45 just doesn't sit well with me.
+B00steDevil Not certain here, but I would suspect an entire slide, as the extractor face would be too large to grab the 9mm casing. That, along with a fitted barrel and different mags. By the time you get it all fitted and the kinks worked out you'd probably be better off with a second gun.
45 isnt the best at anything, its obsolete and theres no valid reason to use it over something else. U can get 357mag power with the same capacity with 10mm. Modern 9mm loads can match 45 in gel tests.
No, you're right, but I would have expected a little more information with respect to the 9mm vs .45acp discussion. In this direct comparison, the 9mm will have less felt recoil. However, I just wish they would have explained that this solely applies to this comparison between the same pistol in different calibers. The fact is, that taken in isolation, a 9mm has less felt recoil. However, if you ever fired a full size steel 1911 and a subcompact like a PM9 or M&P shield, for example, you quickly realize that you cannot ignore the weight of the gun when considering which has less felt recoil. In that comparison, the 1911 actually feels easier to keep on target and softer than the snappier 9mm's. That is because the 1911 weighs literally twice as much as those aforementioned 9mm pistols. Some may watch this video and think that in every instance a 9mm pistol will be easier to handle than a 45acp. That's often true with respect to similarly sized pistols, but not so otherwise.
@@onlyonecannoli3952 It's literally titled "Range Officer 9MM vs 45ACP. It's explicitly about their Range Officer model 1911. Anyone thinking this is a discussion about 9MM vs 45ACP across all guns is just stupid.
