The contrast of her speaking voice and singing voice is interesting to me for some reason. What a gorgeous voice. Excellent band.
Aaron Davis I couldn’t wait to hear her speaking voice !! I was not expecting that. There’s such a contrast. Man her voice is haunting and everything I’ve been looking for!
Yeah, as soon as I heard her speaking voice, it was interestingly resonant to my own - deep but childish at the same time.
unfortunately i wasn't blessed with such a contrastingly high and gentle singing voice!
She talks like a duder
yeah it is...her singing voice is...awesome! But her talking voice is like...just awesome?
And..of course...here attidude.(sic!) when talking
waiting room is such a brilliant song even though she wrote it as a teenager. we all feel the things she talks about but very few people are actually able to express it in such a beautiful way.
can't believe it finally got released on spotify a few weeks ago and it's down again now
@@GriffinixWEla it was on spotify for years prior to its removal
@@potato.pancakeaaa jag har
@@GriffinixWEla it's been back for a few weeks now!
It's my favorite song by her
Phoebe dismissing "Waiting Room" as a song she wrote when she was a teenager makes me wish she appreciated that song more because if any adult could write a song even half as good as it, they would be doing well.
I've really only got to know this song in the last week and I just love it so much.
The composition is wonderful, but I imagine some of the lyrics feel a little awkward as an adult. The opening couple of lines especially. It's an interesting song when you look at it in the context of other songs she's written about life experiences though.
I agree. She should use it as the first single on her 3rd album!
And here I am, just learning about the song today😢
@@samuelamos4864 better late than never! 🙂
Agree. That song is one her masterpieces
I come back here every 2 weeks, best performance of Scott Street IMO.
00:25 Smoke Signals
09:51 Motion Sickness
18:13 Waiting Room
22:58 Scott Street
thank you good sir
She played waiting room. I’m shaking 😭
never clicked so many times on a time stamp as much as I did on 09:51
I give you al due respect for your kindness
You the real MVP :'(
Wow, this version of Scott Street is breathtaking
I know right
I don’t get it? Who is Scott Street?
@@SethCorbinMusic I cant tell if youre joking
who is scott and who made him a. Street
The way the back up vocals hit on "smoke signals" is just a perfect complement to the lead vocals. Well done.
Hits real different when you realize the guy the song is about is the same one singing the backing vocals.
The entire performance was tight. I've always been impressed by Phoebe, but the entire band is really phenomenal.
Jonathan Svilar They’re amazing.
That performance of motion sickness. Damn.
She makes the most beautifully depressing music, and I love it.
No :) it is not depressing. Do you not see the happiness on her face. It comes from feeling feelings. It makes happy
Try Daughter.
She calls it "That good sad" and i think that's the best way you can put it
Try Echos. Even more depressing, but still beautiful as well.
@mustakrakish this is a good reference.
she looks so truly beautiful here and I'm so sad to hear her pass off waiting room as a silly teenage love song, it's so fucking incredible, and now that it's off Spotify there is actually a hole in my heart.
Pookie guess what
I normally listen to metal, I don't know how I got here but the honesty here is beautiful
Same here...hahaha...! Glad i've got this video suggested by Mr Algorythm..
Me too. Love her.
Me 3..deafheaven brought me here! No but beautiful like DH
You must be a Katatonia fan. I am one, therefore, I love this kind of vibe.
@@SorenAraujo Ditto. Katatonia is one of my favorites!
I just discovered Phoebe last year (where have I been? I don't know). But now I'm obsessed with this orgasmic performance in my brain... How do they do it? Being so good on the album and much better in live. My teenager (who lives inside me) is so happy to live in the same world (time in space) as these genius people. Come to Brazil 🇧🇷 please 🙏
i’m so obsessed with waiting room, it’s one of her best songs
I have listened to all the studio versions countless times on repeat but nothing hits like this live performance . Her best in my opinion
I totally agree
Anyone else get choked up listening to her music? I love the emotions in her singing. I can't help but feel them along with her.
Every time... :')
Absolutely. In fact, I don't know how she sings straightfaced. If i was singing those words, I'd be weeping uncontrollably.
No, but I am dead inside.
1000%
I've felt strongly about music often in my life. But Phoebe is on another level to me. I get choked up during so many songs. I get tingles still like I'm listening to the songs the first time, when in actuality it's the thousandth.
@@tomosboatman1780 HILARIOUS!
Oh. My. God. That performance of Motion Sickness just changed my life.
i could just watch her for hours
Got to about 13:30 listening to this while doing other things... then she held that note and the drummer did that smooth fill over it while everyone kept the drone going... hell yeah, new fan
Really wish these sessions were available for streaming on Spotify or something like that
You can also turn UA-cam videos into mp3 files on most pc’s
I really just wish UA-cam wouldn't make a simple feature like playing without the screen on something that people have to pay for. It would be easy enough to listen to stuff like this on the UA-cam app for me if that weren't the case. No way I'm paying for UA-cam again. Too many subscriptions as it is!
@@marksheppard7733 if you really really really wished that you would have found one of many easy ways to create your solution.
@@blauwzakjecrack mp3 files ??
Ya idk why I've seen so many comments like this, your wishes have been a Google search away for probably about 15 years since the beginning of UA-cam. All anyone has ever had to do to have anything you want as an mp3 is Google UA-cam to mp3, there's tons of sites. Same for SoundCloud or Bandcamp or probably anything else. You can do it right on your phone too, don't even need a computer. Then you got the raw sound files on your phone to use in whatever music player ya want. Easy, free, no worrying about availability, apps, connection, streaming, data, or anything at all ; )
"There are no words in the English language..." to describe how much I love the song "Motion Sickness" 🙌🏻
I am struck by Phoebe's honesty and genuineness as well as her and the band's tight and comfortable vibe.
This is my introduction to Phoebe Bridgers and it's very, very good.
same.
I’ve been listening to Phoebe for a couple years and I just love hearing her live, I hope I can see her one day
Just a great performance overall. Man that drummer is a sweet harmony singer.
Grant Ferstat I agree, such a smooth tone.
I just found this, and it's my first Phoebe experience. I am hooked! I love everything about her, and we just met! LOL!!!
Anthony S. Adams you’re in for a ride!!
KEXP the place to go to find something you never searched for but definitly was missing in your life.
Thanks for recording these sessions and make them availble for us.
Keep up the good work!
I found King gizzard from KEXP and that opened the rabbit hole to Australia’s amazing music scene. 🤙🏽
@@Usiris23 any similar acts that you recommend?
The way she understands how the audience wants to hear her hold the high note on surrendering to the sound.
I love the little ingenious tricks and gadgets the drummer uses
I think this performance of Smoke Signals may be the best one on UA-cam at the moment. Also, I was super happy to see a live version of Waiting Room.
NPR Smoke Signals is def the best
Smoke signals is just one of those songs that’s just somehow objectively amazing. Dare I say perfect. This version of it is especially special. Thank you phoebe
I don’t know what it is but Scott Street always makes me cry so hard maybe it’s just the realization that childhood is over and things won’t ever be the same is really sinks in when I hear it
Gut. Damn. Best version of Scott Street, ever. And Phoebe, if you are listening, please NEVER stop playing Waiting Room. I've heard a few different versions, and would like to hear a few dozen more, if you please.
chamangus This song is mesmerizing, she’s amazing life!!
That was a great cup of coffee, a warm blanket and comfortable chair. Wow. Music lives on
Her voice is hypnotizing
the bass in smoke signals is so good in every single version i’ve heard of it
absolute props to the excellent sound mixing and recording.
The emotion felt when performing songs can truly be seen in her eyes. So beautiful , so sad but so pure.
Phoebe was already amazing, this band has kicked it up tenfold! Great musicianship and writing!
what a fucking banger of an album
Had to listen to it twice in a row. Wow, this might be one of the best live perfomance I have ever heard.
I love it when performers actually sound like their recordings, live (norah jones, Lilly Allen, etc). And your note hold on "Motion Sickness" - beautiful talent.
This girl is one of the most SOULFUL beings and sends me into another dimension .....I can't stop listning to her and she plays the guitar exactly how her voice needs to be accompanied. Really hope and I dont doubt she will be around for a long time.
Just makes me want to play and write songs . ...but I can't stop listning haha
She warms my heart.
This is the best version of Motion Sickness
When she hits that high note @13:35 GIIRRLLL
Also I must commend the host's nonchalant professionalism. I would be losing it.
bohojobo I KNOW !!! Sooo flat! Ok , that was great, tell us about your band members! I’m losing my mind just listening from here
i'm sure he's been in the room with plenty of talented musicians and eventually just got desensitized to most of it. i grew up with live music and still play in a band around town, i'm in the host's camp with not freaking out about it. not to say i didn't enjoy this performance, i did, but it's obviously in her range to belt out that note
@Francisco Cotapos im gonna risk saying it's because it's not easy xD
She is absolutely awesome, not just her voice but also her personality. This is love at first sight. She is very talented and then so modest at the same time. She is just very charming. I enjoyed listening to each and every song. I'm determined to find out more about her. Phoebe Bridgers, a name to remember!!
Great performance, no surprise she was nomminated here and there but also toured and collaborated endlessly. And the folks around her are just in pure harmony, a magic band indeed !
Thanks to KEXP for bringing such a tasty music to us... without you, I'd have missed that. ✋😋
This is quite magical - what a talent Phoebe is. She has the loveliest singing voice, and a song-writing ability of the highest order.
this performance of Scott Street is a GODDAMN GEM.
somehow i always end up back here. pure GOLD
Love the full band arrangements. This is a spectacular set.
I made my way here from Between Two Ferns: the Movie. So glad I've finally discovered this girl. Crazy talented, and she sings with an amazing amount of emotion. Huge fan.
I love her album (and all her other collaborative works). These songs just soothe me musically. But what I enjoy even more is hearing her growing variations on the original recordings. Lots of goose bump moments.
One of the best performances she's done. Beautiful.
The most beautiful and calm performance ever ♥
Just a bunch of beautiful souls pouring out beautiful music. Incredible
They are amazing. This version of Emotional Sickness is my favorite. Just perfect.
I’m addicted to Phoebe’s voice...
I love this version of Motion Sickness. You can really hear and see the pain in her voice and face.
Sounded like she almost choked up at 13:15 ish. Unbelievably powerful performance
Love this acoustic version of Scott Street
I don't know how a newer song can make me so damn nostalgic for my neighborhood the
Echo Park of pre-pandemic times before this song was released
Crazy good
"Everyone wake up. Friends is the WORST." My queeeeeeeeen
Man she nailed it... Friends IS the worst.
tbh Phoebe's live performances are better than the album version because her voice is more raw here cuz of the lack of reverb here
i just discovered her music shes criminally underrated!!!
Imagine for a moment, standing there in that studio and bearing witness to this. Folks at KEXP sure are lucky
I always come back to this video because her music is just so amazing live. Scott Street will always be a favorite of mine
I have been listening to her album for days straight now and then this appears? Yup, it's my lucky friday
Same!! I typed Phoebe Bridgers live though haha
Same!!!
just saw her live two nights ago. If you get a chance, go go go. Incredible.
Listen again
I always listen to each individual song then I come back to watch the full performance.
omg waiting room is so nice. beautiful tune and instrumentation!
i was afraid to watch this, i knew what would happen. Cuz now i’m crying. Now i can feel again. i still might be human.
The tenderness and raw emotion in her voice...goosebumps. SO good.
she gives me hope to keep living. Thank you Phoebe
Sending big love to KEXP from France, you made me discover so much fantastic artists, Phoebe Bridgers included, your sound is always perfect, your interviewers are amazing, just a huge thank you !
This is just a wonderful performance. Thanks KEXP and Phoebe Bridgers.
I love how they talk about the shows they like
Love her music. I think it's fair to say that 'Stranger in the Alps' was one of the best albums of 2017. I remember making a playlist of 2017 music for a friend, and she was the only artist I put in twice. Oh, and this UA-cam channel is fantastic 🤓
Great performance. Also, shout out to the people who designed the performance space - it has looked amazing from day one.
i always come back to this performance; it's just too gorgeous.
Waiting room has got to be one of my fave Phoebe songs despite the fact that she wrote it as a teenager.
this performance of waiting room needs to be released somewhere oh my god. beautiful.
idk why its taken me so long to listen to her bc her voice is soooooo smooth like damn.
Just realized that I have never found any discernible difference in quality between her studio and live stuff.
I only recently discovered this talent and I’m a new fan!
Saw her at The National music festival in Queens last weekend.
I’ve been listening to her Stranger in the Alps album in heavy rotation.
Found Pheobe Bridger by watching her duet with Matt Beringer.... Wow what a beautiful singer she is. Relaxing and creative
gets better with every listen thanks for sharing
I love it so much, when the live performance sounds just like the record
they play so so well together and make it look effortless!
keep coming to this over and over and over.....
Man, if I was that KEXP radio guy the camera would just turn to me being in awe
This is recording was the first I heard of Phoebe. I was obsessed with it for about six weeks after it came out. I ordered the album and was actually a little bummed that the studio versions of these songs didn't sound as good as they do here. The band really is immaculately tight and the mixing perfect. This show will always be the definitive version of these songs for me.
'waiting room' got me weeping everytime. I relate to teenage phoebe too much
Every time I see a Full Performance and I see that the interviewer is not Cheryl Water I get sad. She is without doubt one of the best interviewers out there!
Jorge Sierra I’m lowkey sad too but I always remind myself that I’m here for the music, not the interviews.
Jorge Sierra I think this guy’s interview with her sucked. Like why didn’t he ask about her songwriting or her background ? Bleh
@@hannahbirch1141 couldn't agree more, this interview was brutal lol
same here
I totally agree!
damn, first Snail Mail, then Camp Cope and now Phoebe Bridgers, you are really on a roll lately 😍
spot on what i was thinking
I discovered Camp Cope because of this comment. I'm a fan of both snail mail and phoebe, and i thought check them out. INSTANT LOVE. Thank you
I'm a fan of Camp Cope and Phoebe. Never heard of snail mail. Gonna check them out. Thank you
so true
throw in Soccer Mommy
The performance of Motion Sickness is one of her best
ALL OF HER MUSIC IS SO MUCH BETTER LIVE AHHH
So healing and full of sorrow at the same time.
Damn...wasn't expecting to cry today. For some reason "Waiting Room" tore down my walls.
back for my daily listen
Discovered Phoebe and Harry at an Elliott Smith tribute concert last night. 2 new doors leading to fantastic art. Thank you🙏
idc waiting room is one of my favorite songs
omg TRUE gilmore girls is my ultimate comfort show!!!
