Thank you. After recently learning that I am mostly Scottish, English & Irish after thinking for 61years I was 50% Italian. Little by little I am trying to learn about anything and everything about Scotland. So, thank you again for this tidbit of information.
Edinburgh a great city with music festivals and university .Love high mountains walks locks that one. Visits in this marvellous city love this city.Ann Deakin 2021
I appreciate the way you tell us about your hotels; they are often the most expensive part of travel and knowing your choice helps with planning our own trips!
Glad to be helpful. My suggestions are always authentic, never bought and paid for. It is always a personal choice about level of spending, but I like 3 or 4 stars, hopefully, no more than $250 for excellent quality, and sometimes save by going with 2 stars.
Janet l know what you mean Liam I'm glad my brother lived to see hibs won the cup, it was something he dreamed about he always said if hibs won the cup, he would get pissed haha and he did in fact he was legless when he came home he couldn't believe after all those yrs hibs actually won his dream and wish they won the cup, he has it uploaded to his mobile, it's in his memory box which I've kept he passed away peacefully at the hospice on June 2017 with cancer, so l thank God he got his wish before he died.!!!
Thanks for that. By coincidence I am in Edinburgh now for three days, shooting more video in glorious weather for future movies, this time in 4k with my iPhone 10 on a gimbal.
This was far better than using google maps. If given a chance, I’d be doing a bit of searching on how far back the family lineage would lead off to since this is where it stopped.
Very well presented. Much more realistic than professional productions, and the few errors of fact can be excused. Most people attribute the monarchs of Great Britain to England, so Scots have learned to mostly ignore that common mistake. I'm not sure how you mistook the bear for a pig, but you're excused for that, also! I'll be checking out your other videos.
Ahhaha the loch that used to be where Edinburgh gardens is was NOT FOR SWIMMING AND BOATING!!! It was where all the feces that got thrown out onto the royal mile drained to.... and it was also the moat surrounding Edinburgh castle to protect it
I live in Derby in the English midlands. There is a statue of "Bonnie Prince Charlie" in the city centre. Why? Derby is a short distance from the town of Melbourne; The southernmost point of the Bonnie Prince's invasion of England in 1746.
Overall this was a great video in that it included so much and gave a good sense of the density of must-see and must-do opportunities in this part of the Old Town. Sadly, Jenners as we knew it is no more. It was purchased by Frasers, which mismanaged it before selling to a major sports retail brand, who lost it when the owner of the building refused to renew the lease. That owner, a multi-billionaire, is in the process of restoring the fabulous building to its original state before reopening with a reformated retail environment. 'Tron Cuke'? Should be Tron Kirk. 🙂 Kirk = Church Though it looks ancient, the Radisson Blu is not a modernised historic building. Forty years ago that block was a hill of grass. The hotel was built in the 1990s. Though there were those who opposed the idea of a pastiche design (i.e., made to look like a bygone era), thankfully City Council insisted on it, as there are other new-builds just a block away that are total non-fit designs for the Old Town area. Thank you.
I plan to visit soon, and when I do, I wanna race a local either up or down the royal mile on foot. I wanna see if I'm fast compared to people in another country than just in California.
No. I say right at the beginning of the movie: "Your visit to Edinburgh could be done comfortably in three days: on day one, Royal Mile and castle, day two, the busy shopping district of the New Town, historic neighborhoods and the National art museum; day three, to the Royal Yacht Britannia at waterfront Leith, National Museum of History and free time. Of course, in between all of these wonderful attractions your main activity is just the sheer pleasure of walking around in this beautiful city."
@@evancortez2 don't forget the Highlands Loch lomond lake Katherine and the trossachs we have dumfermine calendar burnt island Kirkcaldy etc, there's a hole load of places if you want to visit Scotland and it wouldn't be in a day.!!!
The King Georges did not ‘rule’ England... they ‘ruled’ the UNITED Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. (“Rule” is the wrong word anyway... they were each head of State).
Jenners has gone. Closed. The story us quite complicated because it concerns two men, one owns the building, one the name Jenners. But it's also, like a lot of departments stores suffered declining sales and competition from online retailing. It may reopen as a department store it won't be the Jenners we all know and love. For now it's doors are firmly closed.
I’m sorry to hear this; I don’t shop much when I travel but I enjoyed Jenners when we visited there in 2005. High end products, helpful but not pushy sales staff. They were having a whiskey tasting, and I bought 2 bottles to bring home with me! It’s always sad to see an institution like this close. I’m lucky to live in a small town in the middle of the US where our local department store is still open; it has a quirky old elevator and wonderful service.
@@alisab3041 old department store with a quircky elevator, sounds like somewhere I'd love. I like those old fashioned places. BTW Jenners at Christmas was a wonderful place. It has a Christmas tree that went right up the middle. My mother always took us shopping there at Christmas and it has so many happy childhood memories.
There's nothing Scottish about it except for the buildings. I walked along Princes street late last night and it was a frightening experience akin to a 3rd world city.
The original museum is STILL THERE. It is what the newly designed extension is built around. All the balconies and levels that are seen in the video ARE the original Victorian structures. Your commentary suggests there’s nothing of the original museum still there. It IS there... in its entirety.
You are being very picky. Here is what I said: "Originally there were two separate museum buildings on this property and then they were joined together to merge into the National Museum. Previously the Museum of Scotland had the Scottish antiquities, culture and history, and the Royal Museum had collections about technology, and natural history, and world cultures. But now it's all together under one roof, giving you a comprehensive look at the world...and has continued to expand internally as they add galleries."
I have the greatest respect and admiration for the museum, about which I also say: "This is one of the top-ten museum experiences you can find in the British Isles. As they say in their excellent website, this diverse collection will take you on a journey of discovery through the history of Scotland and around the world, taking in the wonders of nature, art, design, and fashion, science and technology, all under one roof." Perhaps I should put it in the top-five. As a tour guide and former archaeologist and anthropologist, I love that place.
Lovely! My sister went to Edinburgh last year and told me I simply must go. Thank you for allowing my eyes to see what her voice was telling me.

Yeah, I cried with laughter when I heard: "bronze pig" :-) :-)
How about a trip to Westside plaza and a tour of muirhouse to see the real Edinburgh

That's dissapointing. I think I'll cancel my Edinburgh day trip and go to Cardiff instead and just do Edinburgh when I have more time
You can I live here you just can't spend much time at each

"Wynd" is pronounced to rhyme with "find" . And anyone who attempted to swim in the Nor'loch would have died of a horrible disease!
First pronunciation was correct. Then after that was all WRONG.
