Just picked mine up today. Absolutely the most amazing vehicle I’ve ever got to experience. You definitely have to drive one for yourself to see how amazing these things are
Have this exact one for 2 months now and LOVE it. I think lots of people should book a test drive before judging. It is very fun to drive. I personally love the front grill, and the interior. It's all about personnal tastes. Some people like the new trend of sticking a freaking tablet on the dash, I personally love the 2 screens seated in. The touch screen is super fast and responsive. The ZF9 gets so much hate but really, on sports and sports + it's doing a great job. So much fun to drive in the snow lol.
Test drove an AWD A-Spec w/ Tech package today. I was pretty impressed. The red leather seats were AMAZING; that thigh extender is actually really nice and comfortable.
I wanted a new Accord Touring but he said the stereo is garbage and is Correct!! Many Accord Owners say the same thing.. He told me IF you want a Honda with a better stereo then go Acura!! Here I am and my future car will be a TLX SH-AWD
you know for as much of a car enthusiasts as this man proclaims to be he really doesn't seem to be too enthusiastic about any of the cars that he reviews
One of your best reviews, Sofyan. Love your genuine reactions of joy to the engine/transmission/AWD system. Yep, at your stop sign acceleration, I timed 5.47 secs to 60.
Haven't watched one of your reviews in a few months. Already an exceptional journalist but something about this video seemed much more poised and polished. Lovely stuff.
Hunter Dugas I went and sat it one and compared to others, it still feels incredible. The wheel is bolstered nicely, stitching is class, and the alcantera is really soft. I am test driving on Wednesday. The one I looked at was 45k.
I went to test drive a new A-Spec and these are my impressions: Impressive suspension, makes the car feel tight but still soaks up large bumps and imperfections very well. Seats were supremely comfortable. I only had it for 40 minutes, so my opinion might change on a long roadtrip. I couldn't tell a difference between 'sport' and 'sport+'. In my opinion just having 'sport' would have been sufficient. It's probably a marketing thing. Sport+ compared to normal offered a marginally more responsive throttle and more of what I believe to be emulated engine sound. The wireless charging pad quickly charged my passenger's Nexus 6 to full capacity. The Apple Carplay function looked excellent, with crisp icons and visuals. Unfortunately controlling it with the rotary dial was very unintuitive (borderline distracting). I'm not sure why they didn't choose to have Carplay on the touch screen. I didn't get an opportunity to test Android Auto, so no thoughts on that. I did not like the location of the mode change button which is next to the transmission push buttons. Though it felt different I could still see someone absentmindedly going for neutral instead of switching drive modes in-flight. The turning circle was ENORMOUS compared to other cars I've owned and test-driven. I tried to turn around a cul-de-sac and it turned into a frustrating 5-point turn experience which was not helped by the push button transmission. My passenger commented that '[They] would not buy this car just because the turning circle sucks'. The rear camera gave a very poor idea of proximity. The camera showed inches from running over a fence when parking back at the dealership. A glance out the window told me I had ~4 feet. This car ostensibly has 'surround' cameras which I couldn't figure out how to activate. It might have been hidden in a menu that I didn't find. There are also no parking sensors, which I've found to be helpful even with a camera. On the Acura TL and older MDX the ELS system was a definite high point. The system in the TLX that I tried sounded bland and muffled compared to how I remember those sounding. It also didn't hold a candle to my Bang & Olufson system in my S4, but that's perhaps an unfair comparison. The air-conditioned seats didn't seem to do anything over the time I drove it. Compared to the RX350 I recently drove (which I would rate as 'good') this feature was lacking. The cabin air conditioning itself was mediocre. It didn't help that it was almost 100 degrees the day I went to test it, but it definitely couldn't keep up. As far as driving impression, I would say it's very bland. It felt like the last time I drove an Accord. This makes sense as the TLX is based on an older Accord platform but I guess I expected more. These things might come across as nit-picky. But as others have said before, once you get past the 40k range of cars in 2017 you're not impressed that the transmission 'shifts smoothly' and the engine feels nice. You expect those things on even the most basic cars and when something doesn't feel nicely screwed together it's an outlier.
The exterior is starting to grow on me. I think I'll like it more once I see it in person. Acura really needs to redo the interior though, like he said. :(
This is a very nice looking car. I love the design from inside and out. And that Honda V6 9speed with AWD is such a great combination. Great review Sofyan!
The Accord and the TLX. They might share some parts but they are a different beast all together. The Accord is design to be an overall in general type of vehicle, family friendly. The TLX, on the other hand is FUN FUN FUN and sportiness all around. I test drove both and I think the Accord is bulky and feels body/nose heavy. You will understand the difference once you drive both back to back.
Robert B. you are absolutely right. Especially with the advancements with automatic transmissions being able to shift quicker and more efficiently. I would also think with the increase of traffic on a daily basis also deters people away from a manual transmission vehicle.
I'm quite impressed with the mid cycle refresh. Definitely looks more sporty. The A-Spec trim is spot on! Am currently driving a '13 TL Advance and I would totally get one of these when I replace mine next year sometime.
Wow, those Acura Legends..... Those were my dream car back in the day before I started driving even. I'd still love one. Still some of the nicest looking interiors on any car.
Same, lol I got hit with nostalgia seeing those clean Legends. That was the car that made me start paying more attention to cars back in high school. I always said the contour lines reminded me of a shark.
Wow, seeing those old Acuras reminded me how well Acura used to design their cars. This whole integrated headlight front end design on new cars isn't bad, but for me, those old Acuras had true automotive class. I'd personally love to see a trend back towards a pronounced bumper shelf with the hood/headlights sitting overhead.
This is only a mid-cycle refresh. If this is where they are going, then I'm all about precision crafted performance. And Acura has actually come up with a car that looks, sounds and feels more upscale than a top trim Accord for once. Well done, Acura. Can't wait to see the all new TLX. 👌
shindawg3 it's slower than the a4 2.0t, 330i 2.0t, giulia 2.0t so I'd rather have those. This is an Accord engine the TLX needs a turbo 6 with 350 hp as the higher engine. Interior isn't as nice as the others and nav system map graphics isn't any better than a 2011 odyssey. The styling in this blue is fantastic but it's not even really a relevant competitor to giulia, c class, a4 and 3 series as well as ats
Josh R I hear ya. I know the turbo 4s in those are faster but also lighter cars. Just a personal preference for me with the v6 I like the feel of those better. agree though that Acura needs to overhaul this to even be in the conversation with those other cars. I owned a 2007 TL and Acura has not released a car I'm interested in since then.
How is it slower than Audi and BMW?!!!!! 252hp for Audi, 248hp for 3 series and 295 for this V6! I am pretty sure the torque ratings are higher too. What are you talking about bruvv?
Definitely replacing my 04 Accord with this in a couple of years, once it depreciates. I saw the white exterior with red interior & was obsessed. Hope that's an option with production
Problem is they came out with this "special" A-Spec model and made a few modest upgrades, but they didn't do anything to the engine or transmission save for a few minor tweaks to the tranny tuning. Honda really needs to come out with a special turbocharged or supercharged version of their J-series V6. A 3.0L or 3.2L twin-turbo or supercharged version with the Earth Dreams DI and I-VTEC would be a great way to bring some much-needed excitement to the Acura brand! Honda has been moving to turbo engines with their 4-cylinders, the Civic SI now has a 1.5L turbo I-4 and the new Accord has a 2.0L turbo I-4 and Infiniti, Cadillac, Lincoln, Audi, BMW, even Hyundai are now using turbocharged/supercharged 6-cylinder motors, so Honda needs to do this ASAP. They already have an excellent Earth Dreams DI J-series V6, they just need to add the forced induction and it would be a winner. Obviously it would need the SH-AWD standard to handle all that power but for the transmission they could always come out with a higher-capacity version of their stellar 8-speed dual-clutch that's used in the 2.4 TLX models.
This car is is good. Test drove it when I took my 08 TL for service. It looks really good and will turn heads. I had an Acura of some sort since 98 so I'm biased. But the 14 TL SH-Awd is my favorite!
I have the 2019 TLX 2.4 A-SPEC. I have had the car for about a year. I have no complaints, This is all I need, I don't care about power, that is why I choose the 2.4 4 banger. Its good on gas , saving gas is my main concern, and luxury and comfort, this car fits the bill. And its quiet and smooth and reliable. Plus I already own a 2013 TL with the SH-AWD so I don't need another V6. Another great car no complaints.. love Acura.
I am rooting for Acura. Would love one in my drive way. This car is definitely a step in the right direction. Hopefully the next generation will address the powertrain short comings, and dated interior. I agree the dual screens make sense now. I could live without the annoying beeps. This is a budget Audi tho!
Just bought the exact same model and color. I actually like just having the kit bc I have roadside assistance. It actually helps in long less fuel for weight
Acura seems to be headed in the right direction styling wise, definitely like the A spec version but I think I'm still going to hang on to my 05 TSX 6spd a bit longer definitely not parting ways with my 2nd gen Integra any time soon either.
Based on this review, I did buy the 2018 TLX (V6, Technology). Thanks for pointing out the exhaust was not connected on the A-Spec. My car is really smooth and comfortable, although I sort of miss the ILX 2.4 manual for the light handling and fun (also bought based on a Redline review).
Saw one in real life, it’s super eye catching and really looks like a high end car. Contrary to popular opinion, I liked the “iron beak” design, but the new diamond pentagon design looks real nice.
I think the biggest thing about this car is that it has Honda reliablity. Great if you decide to buy this car. If you're leasing, definitely go with the competitors turbo 4s...
The 2 screen layout is a great design feature. It's very convenient for daily use. Like you said. They need to update it to make it more premium. I really like my 2 screen layout, and now that other manufacturers are going this way, I hope Honda/Acura keeps this.
Honda engineers are great at building great engines and getting a lot of practicality and space out of their vehicles, but when it comes to exterior and interior styling, the designers just let the cars down
I've driven the 07 TL-S 5AT AND currently have a 16 TLX 3.5 FWD. Don't let the hp/lb-ft numbers fool you: the latter pulls a lot harder than the former at WOT. The TLX V6 may not be a Q50 RS400 (nor any of its contemporaries) but it's a fine performer and puts a smile on my face with spirited driving. My only regret is not getting SHAWD which takes the handling and traction abilities to a different level. 👍
I haven't been too fond of Acura's styling lately but this is a step in the right direction. I wish they put LED lights and turn signals all the way around.
First time watching this...honestly one of your best vids...Tyson could not have done a better job....that's why I fucks with Redline...my car...2011 Ford Flex Titanium EcoBoost (luv it..your flex review helped me decide on the car, thank u).
They should've deleted the resonators or have less restrictive ones at least for the A-Spec exhaust to make it sound sportier. He's right if a car has aggressive looking 4inch exhaust tips then you'd expect it to sound nice instead of looking like they're compensating for something.
I got 11500 off MSRP 46000. The car is not perfect but at that price it's definitely worth it. It's comfortable fast and maintenance is cheap. Car should be reliable even with the ZF 9 speed. V6 Aspec all wheel drive with technology package.
@@Spidershy509 I honestly think they are having trouble selling TLX. Everybody goes across the street and gets an Audi BMW or Mercedes or buy one of Acura's suvs. I'm in LA everybody has a German luxury car.
@@BurningUp99 Ya I agree. It a little slow of the line but it makes up for it once you rev it up to 6000 rpm. Its crazy fast and the all wheel drive is great in the canyons. Great handling and good power.
Great review man, Acura hit a homerun with this one in both styling and standard equipment and yes and a type S model would be exactly what the brand needs to seriously compete with rival competitors and it's crazy cause They definitely has the resources to do it and dominate that segment, but guess they won't to keep it more accessible to the masses, but still a really hot car I think it'll do really good this time around.
Yeah Honda/Acura are also very conservative so they’ll wait for a while until they give us something innovative and new as expected with their Japanese traditions.
I don't understand why the taillights aren't full LED yet. That's ridiculous. Even the freaking CRV has full LED taillights. For some reason, Acura continues to hold this model back by not offering the basics. Make it full LED, front and back, and pump up the power to at least 330hp.
If Acura were to bring back the Type S model it'd probably completely revitalize the company. Who doesn't love the TL-Type S of 2007-2008. Just an overall amazing car with plenty of amenities for it's time. If Acura were to re-birth the Type-S I'd hope to see a v6 with at least 320-340 hp standard, manual option, with a dual clutch auto as well. Only time will tell.
I think it would be really cool to hang out with a lot of these auto journalists especially Sofyan and Dave Erickson even the crew from TFLcars just to name a few. Throttle house, StraightPipes, Alex, Micah, and Zack from Motormouth.
Especially since even Ford's Mainstream vehicles have full LED taillights. All fusions have rear led turn signals and the Platinum trim and lower trim Fusions with the optional premium headlights have LED front turn signals as well. Every version of the 2013 and newer MKZ has LED front and rear turn signals. Both the pre and post refresh models.
Which is embarrassing to agree with but is so true... if they're trying to be competitive they should really watch for the small and big if they don't want to lack behind on what is already becoming main stream and the standards now if they expect people to pay their hard earn money being that if you want to stand out of the competition.
Good review. Those legends look beautiful. Tyson is an OG in that community.. crazy to see him featured on here. Maybe more collaboration together ? I like the new TLX.. it's got promise but competition is tough these days.
Dear Everyone, based on my observation on the build quality, design, features, and safety specs , Acura is NOT a luxury brand, it is a PREMIUM brand of Honda.... Honda need to rebuilt Acura brand from ground up if they want to be admitted as a luxury arm of Honda.
Justin Horman Nope, not discontinued. RLX has been out since 2013 and Acura has just announced its remodel. Check your facts before making dumb statements.
Now acura is using german technology for their transmissions, why are they using trash transmissions when Honda is proven to make very reliable transmissions. I just don't get it why they want to damage brand name by using over engineered German technology. When something works don't changed it very simple.
Solid car one thing that's is a huge let down is their interior. I think the interior is not on par with the exterior, especially their infotainment system. It's dated, not really changed. Even some of the new Honda ones are better.
the Ilx with the 2.4 is a race car in comparison. I love my ILX a-spec so much more than the 15 and 17 TLX I've owned. smaller car, more motor in a smaller package is good times and the V-Tech on the small car carries some speed
Come on Honda. I love you a lot but you need a compact lightweight sedan with 400hp. That pesky Nissan Red Sport with 400hp isn't doing your fans any favors.

Thank god it doesn't have a hideous chrome beak. I hope Acura continues that trend with their other models.
Mitch 3k The beak type grill fitted the 2017 ILX very well, until Honda made the Civic grill similar...
Mitch 3k I actually find the new look like a pig, the beak fits it better
The ILX itself is a disappointment. Acura should've gave it the power plants of the new Civic SI and Type R and bring the Integra name back.
That ugly chrome stuff goes to 2018 accord.
I agree with you but between this model and the 2010 Acura TL is my favorite the 2010 was the most masculine Acura sedan probably ever
Test drove an AWD A-Spec w/ Tech package today. I was pretty impressed. The red leather seats were AMAZING; that thigh extender is actually really nice and comfortable.

Really nice review, been expecting it since the Auto Shwo
Love that you love BPM!! It’s my fav SiriusXM channel by far!!! 💙
Honda/Acura v6 is amazing vetch Current 2014 mdx owner!!!
Trust me if acura came out with an updated RSX they would be the number one selling company.
deftones 26 I think it's in the works
deftones 26 yea I loved my type s . they should have never discontinued the rsx big mistake .
deftones 26 yea I loved my type s . they should have never discontinued the rsx big mistake .
I really need that. I have a 2003 RSX and I don't want a sedan.
I still have my original 2005 rsx-S. Won't buy another car until there is something better.
Acura seems to be headed in the right direction styling wise, definitely like the A spec version but I think I'm still going to hang on to my 05 TSX 6spd a bit longer definitely not parting ways with my 2nd gen Integra any time soon either.
Hondo fourfivetwo used to own an 06 tsx 🤧 miss it don’t sell it trust me
Well I wonder if you think 4 years later the new TLX is a worthy replacement?
Based on this review, I did buy the 2018 TLX (V6, Technology). Thanks for pointing out the exhaust was not connected on the A-Spec. My car is really smooth and comfortable, although I sort of miss the ILX 2.4 manual for the light handling and fun (also bought based on a Redline review).
I wouldn't consider Acura luxury. I would call it premium.
B Blackwell perfect description
B Blackwell I wouldn't even call it premium. It's like less than that....
philo lee not until you drive one...
If you have to drive one to know its "premium" or "luxury" it's not really either of them is it.
B Blackwell +1 👍
Best looking tlx, jist wished it had more power
This looks better than the new 2nd gen tlx
I was honestly left wanting a review of one of those Legends!!
MrCarGuy20 We actually have a review already up of a 1994 Legend 6-speed :)
MrCarGuy20 that's my Sherwood Green 94 coupe to the left of the TLX, she's had her "15 minutes of fame" now lol! *sorry, no autographs please*
Saagar Patel Really? Toyotas and Hondas are some of the most reliable cars
I agree, best to go with Lexus/Acura if you plan on keeping the car for the long-haul.
The 2 screen layout is a great design feature. It's very convenient for daily use. Like you said. They need to update it to make it more premium. I really like my 2 screen layout, and now that other manufacturers are going this way, I hope Honda/Acura keeps this.
Honda engineers are great at building great engines and getting a lot of practicality and space out of their vehicles, but when it comes to exterior and interior styling, the designers just let the cars down
azera55555 BMW has been making cars from the same 2010 concept... The new TLX is way more handsome and different than other brands...
moshebenshaul cause it looks good. why do you think Audi, BMW, Mercedes don't make major changes they don't need to
Mercedes has been making major changes.
Honda is great at designing cars for Honda. When it comes to designing for Acura they let us down
+William Shinn Exactly! Acura was never necessary in the first place.
He didn't cuss like he did when he drove the Q50 Red Sport. That says to me the Q50 is better that the sport sedan game.
chrisak49 The Infiniti is DEFINITELY quicker... ;)
chrisak49 well it has over 100hp more so..
Carlos Mercado Well who's fault is it that the Acura makes 100+ HP less? Acura. They should just have all of their employees cut their wrists.
I haven't been too fond of Acura's styling lately but this is a step in the right direction. I wish they put LED lights and turn signals all the way around.
Apollo Creed nigga they did
Miko no led turn signals in taillights.
I love to see a V6 twin-turbo on Acura brand as well 😊😊😊
First time watching this...honestly one of your best vids...Tyson could not have done a better job....that's why I fucks with Redline...my car...2011 Ford Flex Titanium EcoBoost (luv it..your flex review helped me decide on the car, thank u).
That Exhaust note is a little disappointing. Looks like it would sound better
Bernie looks like it would sound better? Their only tips lol
Depends on the mode. This guy has it in sport. Put it in Sport + and it roars.
This car is all about the engine note though, and in that regard it sounds better than almost all of its turbo 4 competitors.
Only drive this car in Sport+.
They should've deleted the resonators or have less restrictive ones at least for the A-Spec exhaust to make it sound sportier.
He's right if a car has aggressive looking 4inch exhaust tips then you'd expect it to sound nice instead of looking like they're compensating for something.
The front end of this car is gorgeous, especially with that blue color.
I got 11500 off MSRP 46000. The car is not perfect but at that price it's definitely worth it. It's comfortable fast and maintenance is cheap. Car should be reliable even with the ZF 9 speed. V6 Aspec all wheel drive with technology package.
Chris Montes how did you get them to lower that much
@@Spidershy509 I honestly think they are having trouble selling TLX. Everybody goes across the street and gets an Audi BMW or Mercedes or buy one of Acura's suvs. I'm in LA everybody has a German luxury car.
The German cars are soooo overrated. People are sheep.
@@BurningUp99 Ya I agree. It a little slow of the line but it makes up for it once you rev it up to 6000 rpm. Its crazy fast and the all wheel drive is great in the canyons. Great handling and good power.
white pearl color for this car looks sweet .
The legend and Integra was the car to get back in the late 90's
I don't understand why the taillights aren't full LED yet. That's ridiculous. Even the freaking CRV has full LED taillights. For some reason, Acura continues to hold this model back by not offering the basics. Make it full LED, front and back, and pump up the power to at least 330hp.
Agreed. For a car at this price range, the taillights should be LED.
It's called " bottom line" ! They're obviously not expecting a big boost in sales and they're being safe.
Can't wait for the 2020 Type S return!
2019 acura tlx type s 6 speed sh-awd turbo v6 400hp anyone?
2020... lets hope.
2030 when even the corolla will have 400hp
Kascper Boguszewski Knowing Acura, it'll probably be a hybrid V6 power plant, not a turbo or supercharger.
+seventyfive1 na it'll probably still have 132hp like it has been for over 10 years now
I'll trade in my 2007 TL Type S for that !
Do you think Acura will have type S version and a type R?
Todd Medium Wellington TBH I hope so
Chief Poodabran Only come in manual transmissions* ;)
There probably won't be any more powerful versions.
+Sukrit Ganesh Aren't Type R cars limited to "Honda" badged vehicles ?
HalfBreedMix No, there was a Integra Type R
I think it would be really cool to hang out with a lot of these auto journalists especially Sofyan and Dave Erickson even the crew from TFLcars just to name a few. Throttle house, StraightPipes, Alex, Micah, and Zack from Motormouth.
Put the new RDX interior in this and it'll be an easy sell.
Damn you must be a time traveler
Fr
So glad they brought the exhaust back on the back
Finally I've been waiting!
😉
Man my first car was a gold legend GS just like the second one in that video, back when Acura had good vehicles.
Why are the rear turn signals incandescent bulbs? Really cheapens the look.
Daniel Blaney right, I'm like why not finish up with the whole LED set up since it's suppose to be Luxury vehicle.
Daniel Blaney TRUE! Even the NEW CR-V has LED TURNING SIGNALS!
Righttt
I have a 2013 TSX SE and that car is my baby.
needs twin turbos
[̲̅3][̲̅3][̲̅R][̲̅P][̲̅M] surprised those Japanese people do t put em on there lol
Justin Horman Acura had luxury cars tho have u seen the rlx THATS the luxury car for Acura
discontinued, unfortunately...
Justin Horman Nope, not discontinued. RLX has been out since 2013 and Acura has just announced its remodel. Check your facts before making dumb statements.
Hey what you suggest 2.4 or 3.5 tlx, which is the better buy and do you think 2.4 tlx has enough power , it's big car?
The flat bottom wheel would of took it to another level
I bet you absolutely love your job...I'm sure the travel can get to you...you do the best reviews on UA-cam..thank you!!@@!
I can't wait to change my Acura tlx 2015
javier linares For what ?
Acura tlx 2018
javier linares wait
Better off with an Accord or KIA than this tarted up Honda.
Wait for the 2020 Type S
Amazing video definitely know what car I want for next spring now 😮😮
I hope they keep the beak on the ilx and add a type S model with the new type r engine
The front end is starting to grow on me. Looks great! Nice review. Definately a car I would consider buying. 👍
Beautiful car, I'd give it a 9 out of 10 if it had a turbo. Acura needs to get with the times
Turbo is cliche
This car needs an interior update! Get that 2019 accord interior and this car will be 🔥
Now acura is using german technology for their transmissions, why are they using trash transmissions when Honda is proven to make very reliable transmissions. I just don't get it why they want to damage brand name by using over engineered German technology. When something works don't changed it very simple.
German cars are the best
@@kristians2704😂
Acura brought back the exhaust tips!
6:31 StartUp
Would you consider Acura’s to be reliable?
27:41, I was like that Legend is so clean...oooh wtf! Jeeezasss!
