You can't just put an LS in and call it a day. If you add too much power into something with low power you have to change everything. IE: New transmission, mounts, welds, wirings, clutch, etc...
@@gaaabygaaabe don't let YT "cheap builds" fool you. An LS swap alone on any car that needs to be driven on the road and not just a track will easily run you $6k minimum.

15K seems like a lot, but it was spent over time. It’s not like it was all purchased at once. Plus, a project car is a investment to a enthusiast. Also, to note your Miata is clean and done correctly. 15K is actually quite reasonable. Love the build bud! 🍻

I totally understand the whole first car=first child thing. I feel the same way about my little Mazda Tribute, she's got a long ways to go, and people always tell me to just sell her to buy a jeep, but that's not the point, the point is to make something unique, something that I like. You do you Gingium, don't let the haters and their silly opinions diminish your love for your baby.
I have to say, this is my favourite MX5 on youtube, cleanest, best-looking MX5, kudos to you Gingium :D
I'm picked up my '99 for $4k, but it was mechanically perfect & cosmetically 90% perfect. Added a hardtop, Xida coilovers, new exhaust, Advanti Storm S2 15x9's, paint is 90%. I upgraded the radiator & installed new brakes and stereo as well. $6800 invested so far. Basically, just needs a roll bar & some seat upholstery. I should be well under $10k when I'm done. Very happy with it so far.

I really like your content end attention to detail! What I would recomend for your miata are polyurethane bushings for the control arms. It really makes a difference on a miata. Also, instead of bride seats you can check out sparco sprint seats, they are way cheaper and fit the car perfectly. Greetings from Germany!

The one thing that stands out the most is your not Fake, not like all the other you tubers bragging about how they bought their rides when there parents are rich. 15k is quite a bit of money but as you said, it's your baby and worth every penny. They're great cars and amazing in track. Maybe you could turn the old rx7 seats into office chairs somehow. 80s Jdm seats are so comfortable. My dad once had an 89 Supra turbo which had some of the most comfortable and supportive seats I've ever been in.

@@griffinmackenzie you clearly never driven one. A miata doesn't even need 300 hp, 200 hp is really good already. A miata isn't a 1/4 mile car by any way..
one thing to consider about the new engine is, because you are putting a more horsepower engine and I supose it's turbo, you can consider use a booster for track day and also slick tires to handle the power on the track, and use low boost for daily to still use the tyres you actually use.

I would say that the time and effort of your Mazda Miata is mind-blowing, sure it may coast 15k and most other people would say ”why are you spending all of that money for your Mazda Miata?” it's about the building bond with your car and making it better than before and to that I have mad respect for you.

Wow this is actually really helpful as I want to build a Turbo Miata just like Molly in the future, and for us in the Uk it costs around £1,500 for a good NA MX-5.

paddythegamer I paid £670 for mine, a '97 Monza edition. Only real issue was rusty sills, although it passed the MOT. So even if I spent money to professionally fix the rust, I would have a very clean MX5 for £1,500

do a flyin' miata butterfly brace. just installed one myself and it made the car a hell of alot more sturdy and lets the coil overs do their job more.

When he said "you should get real turbos" it hurt me because I use Ebay turbos. I have my current one that has done 15k miles and it costed me 350$. It's a gt35. I think it depends on which ebay seller you get it from. Roadkill also used an ebay turbo without any issues.

It's a neat car. The reason I like it so much is it still looks fairly stock, you haven't gone crazy with the mods. I plan to do the same and am just about to start my project with a Silver 2001 NB, which is bog standard, low kms great paint and interior. Has cost me $8,000 Australia so far. Plans are Garrett turbo, new injectors, brakes coil overs, alloy radiator ect. ect. Am lucky have a mate that races a 2000 NB and 1998 NB. Both cars put out about 300-320 HP. I will be happy if I get 200 HP out of mine. I still want it to look almost standard and not over customised.

Don't regret that spending, it's one of the 3 most excellent Miatas in the world. Yours, Mintyfresh, and the Turtle are the top 3 imo.

Hey Gingium, I bought my miata (first car). It was in September last year, mariner blue, 92,000 miles, and rust free as well. And I paid $2800. Just thought it was cool how close of a comparison lol

That's a lot of money for sure, but it was definetly worth it. Molly is the sickest Miata I've ever seen. You should get black (or body color) door handles, then it'd be perfect.

I had ebay radiator on my R33, the welding on that thing was horrible, it leaked. I had to use grinder in multiple spots and do some fixing myself. It cost about 230 euros including shipping (30€).

15k isn't bad at all. I spent about 12k modifying a 2012 Scion tC. That doesn't include the cost of the car...still needed a lot of work too suspension, bbk, weight savings. 15k will barely get you a stock 370Z or a turbo 350Z but you're buying someone elses headache if it wasn't professionally built.

Gingium, eBay turbos aren't actually that bad.
The thing that causes them to fail so quickly is that when they're shipped to you they are usually way out of balance, which causes issues fairly quickly that have given them a bad reputation.
If you bought a 200-300$ turbo and balanced it you'd have a good reliable turbocharger for a lot cheaper than the competition.
I wouldn't trust ball bearing eBay turbos though.

Been wanting to build a miata for years! A car that small, weighing in at barely 2500lbs, being motivated by a 250-350hp engine would be a monster. It's all about the power to weight ratio.

I spent about 16,500 on a 2015 Miata MX-5 NC Club Edition with the upgraded Bilstein shocks and 17 inch rims retractable hardtop and I love the thing

You think the turbo kit for the miata is bad. To get a pro charger kit for my 04 pontiac gto is over $6500 and thats the cheapest kit

well, this will make you feel better, a stock NA miata costs about $48,000 in Singapore to drive it for 4 years. No worries you only have to pay $36,000 to the government to drive it for 10 more years assuming you keep it stock.

$ well spent I saved for that car and like you it was the first car I purchased as an adult. Smiles per dollar my friend. I had a blue 91 which got totaled by a dumb ass in a Ram who fell asleep behind the wheel. I'd still be driving it now I think. Its awesome just the way it is!
