You're a life saver bro thank you! Saved me an expensive repair fee and two weeks of issues with tech support! I have an ASUS gaming laptop that I mostly used for the last six years and it outlived my G3 15 which I've barely taken anywhere in the last two years. Says a lot about how awful the design is, will not be purchasing from Dell again seems like a lot of people are having problems with this model due to the hinge design.
Congratulations for this video it helped me a lot I was quiet scary when this laptop broke. Your video was the best among all I found. I followed all your steps and finally the hinges are working again but I do not trust anymore this laptop and I think its time to sell it and find other brand I wont ever by a Dell laptop again.
Thank you so much for the video! Been leaving the screen up for the longest time but I discovered your video and it was a relatively easy fix. If I knew the Dell G3 was notorious for the screen issues I wouldn’t have bought it. Thanks again. Gave the video a like 👍
Very well explained!!! I tried watching a hinge repair id in Burmese and was doing ok just watching the steps but you never know about warnings or considerations that are spoken instead of shown and I dont understand Burmese. Wouldnt the epoxy soften eventually anyway bc the heat from the vent is right next to the hinges on the Dell g3?
A couple weeks ago my son with an HP laptop had the same problem, where the screws pulled through the plastic and today my other son with a Dell G3 is having the exact same issue with his. These companies are really doing a poor job on the parts that should be the easiest. A metal hinge bracket instead of a plastic one wouldn't hardly cost any more but leave me less likely to curse them.
@@ItsBinhRepaired a lot of information I've seen since looking into how to fix this has said the exhaust is catching on the screen and over time weakening the plastic the hinge connects to.
Got this issue with my daughter G3. Going to try this though not sure how much force to use to get the bezel off. Found I can get JB Weld on Amazon in the UK.
@@ItsBinhRepaired I made it like you, mix the JB at the same propotions and filled it in the holes like you. For my wifes G3 it worked very very good. I sealed it with tape like you, 24h trying process, and the damn case is stable now. Best way to fix this failed casebuild. Shame on you, Dell!! And thanks Mr. Binh! Great video!
I noticed that in the beginning of the video you said leaving the epoxy repaired laptop somewhere warm, in the sun etc., The epoxy will soften up. Do the hot exhaust vents constantly blowing hot air on the screen when it's open and being used cause the epoxy to soften?
Not a bad suggestion but instead of epoxy since the assembly would have been garbage anyways I just drilled a 3mm hole through the screen assembly where al lthe original screws go and then used M3 bolts, washers, and nuts to secure it together..... used a 3D printed cap to cover the nuts on the top of the laptop, doesn't even look to bad and hinge is stronger than original. As soon as you pointed out the epoxy gets soft under heat I whipped out the drill and got reckless, cost of a new screen assembly saved and the laptop will last forever.
I thought about doing this repair, but I've decided to get the reinforced lid with 10 screws instead of 6. I'm still going to put loctite on the screws to prevent them from getting loose
@@ItsBinhRepaired okay thank you. I thought I read somewhere that they would loosen up over time. I was just trying to prolong the repair as long as possible. Hopefully the reinforced lid will do the trick.
Of course! I choose to use one that takes 15 hours to cure because I like waiting. It's so fun and efficient!.... lol Hopefully you got the sarcasm there and don't actually use 5 minute JB Weld... lol
@It's Binh Repaired & Reviewed it worked! Thank you so much! I ended up using the translucent yellow epoxy from loctite and after 8 hours of curing it was locked in. Hopefully it stays that way
@@ItsBinhRepaired When the hinges are completely separate from everything else, I find them really difficult to open and close (i.e. make the hinge rotate). Should I use WD40 or jigaloo to make it rotate more easily and put less pressure on the screws? Edit: actually, I see grease on the hinge. However, I think there are rubber rings that add rigidity to the mechanism. I'm thinking maybe the rings expand with heat, causing too much tightness...
@@PhilSweeney24701 Save yourself time and if you aren't too worried about how it looks drill the holes out with a 3mm drill bit, use m3 bolts, washers, and nuts to secure the hinges to the screen assembly. HP MSI LENOVO etc all have the issue as well. It's a downside to the thin bezels.
I applied the same fix to the same laptop yesterday. Today i'll check it. Wish me luck.

It shouldn't get that hot otherwise your computer will fry.

It's not an issue with heat. It's just a bad hinge design.

Thanks for sharing this potential fix, can you comment on how is it now a few months after your fix? Does it still feel solid?

Should I remove all the plastic from the holes before I put the JB Weld in? Can those still break and loosen the weld if I don’t?
