I have the same laptop with the same break. No drops or rough use. Just 2 years of normal use. It's a design issue for sure. Not sure I'll ever buy an MSI again.
can confirm im on my second one first one broke same way after 9 months regular use...... Costco has the new design for 2021 hopefully they addressed this issue.....
Same problem. Mine (GE75) is 1.5 years old, has had a gentle life (sits on a desk). Reached to close it last night, like normal, and right hinge plastic busted. Now I can't close it without the high-tension hinge prying the broken bezel apart. I've heard the problem is that the hinges are way too tight (can confirm personally, open-close is stiffer than most other laptops). Their tension can be adjusted, but one doesn't know the tension is a problem until something breaks.
Same here ge66 raider after 2 years normal use. MSI knows this is an issue (hinge damage listed as a reason on RMA request page) yet continues to build laptops with shitty parts. Wish I knew this before dropping $2k on what I thought would be a long lasting durable product. Shame on MSI
I have a MSI GS75, with very similar hinges to this one, and they broke exactly the same way. The way it's broken, I knew there was no other way to repair it, than to use epoxy, and your video has affirmed my expectations. Thank you sir, it's videos like these that help people, cheers!
Same, Bloody GS75 is a Rolls Royce with plastic wheels. Now that it's glued up it feels so solid but I dialled off the hinges just a little bit to stop the stress when opening/closing.
Holy crap. I watched your video last night and did everything on my MSI GF63. Woke up this morning to see that the broken hinge is completely fixed! Absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks so much - this worked great! The hinges are so tight that they had separated from the display cover from normal use. I wouldn't recommend an MSI laptop to anyone, but I definitely recommend this video!
Your video, Michael H, and one other helped me to repair my own MSI GS73VR 7RG laptop. I had to combine all three videos to have a full and complete understanding before I attempted it. I used Dap Super Glue and JB Quik Weld epoxy with some very careful bezel removal and deft hands. Thanks for your video and contribution.
I had the EXACT same issue with my MSI GE75 Raider laptop: same side, broken plastic clip onto which the metal hinge screws in. Thank you so much for the video! A $6 tube of JB Weld, your instruction, and a little time & patience saved me a lot of headache and money. My only recommendation is to be careful not to fill the edge next to the hinge too much where the bezel fits in. Mine clips in and I had to cut away a lil bit of hardened epoxy for a smooth fit.
Thanks so much Andy! I have a similar MSI laptop (GE63 Raider RGB) with a broken right hinge. Well, it had a broken hinge - I followed your instructions exactly 24 hours ago, and now I have a fully functioning laptop again. I also took the opportunity with the bezel off to loosen the nut on the hinges a bit. Hopefully that will prevent the other one from breaking too. Amazing video, thanks again!
Have a similar GE63 model, thankfully I didn't have to mess with the bezel, only remove the bottom cover to access the hinge. Was yours similar? Cement will dry overnight and we will see! Tricky spot, right against wires and the power jack 🙄
Thanks for the video, Andy. I have an MSI GF63 my hinge is broke from normal use after about 2.5 years. This lead to the bezel being craked on the front and back. I haven't opened up the hinge to see the full extent of the damage but the hinge its self seems to be loose at the base its also not attached to the screen (as shown in the video)
This video was perfect! Well explained and shown, and now the hinge on my laptop works again! Thank you so much for making this, you saved me a lot of hassle and money!
This is a major issue with most consumer laptops, They are made so cheaply nowdays and break easy, being an it tech i see this issue fairly often, recently repaired one with all new parts and its back 3 months later with the same issue, apparently wasnt miss treated, Gonna give this a go and will keep it in mind for future repairs
I have an MSI GE75, with the exact same problem -- same break on the same hinge, no abnormal use, no falls or bumps. I'm going to try this fix, it'll be cheaper than all-new parts or RMA. Thank you! Something I noticed right away when I got this laptop was that the hinges are extremely high-tension, open-close action is abnormally stiff, putting a lot of unnecessary strain on the plastic that connects with the metal hinges. The hinge tension is adjustable, so I'd recommend also bringing them down to a normal tension after this fix, so this won't happen again (or on the yet-unbroken left side).
You want it all in, just like you're doing a root canal.. you're a dentist today, just pack it all in! 😬 thank you sir, had the same idea myself, and came to your video for reassurement. I love insurance. Thanks 😊
Same hinge broke on my MSI, or at least it feels like it’s getting ready to. The hinge creaks and pops and pushes the surround out. Getting ready to grab the ole JB Weld and give it a go. Heck I’ve got an older Dell with broken hinges. May use that as a practice piece first. Might get that one useable again.
I have a msi ge73 raider and same hinge broke. There’s a red piece from the Palmrest that broke. The hinge still works. So the piece that needs to be glued is plastic. I don’t want to have to dismantle the whole laptop to replace this piece.
Great work, I have MSI ge73 raider and I have had a similar situation going on. And the notebook for, at the time little more then 2k dollars, in a warranty which wasn’t recognised and have been declined. Even tho it was brand new. The two hinges broke shortly after first 6 months.. Unbelievable and outrageous.. Anyway, you gotta do what you gotta do, and I have the cables which powered back rgb and the screen itself compromised and even tho I was very gentle, at some point they stuck the hinge causing meltdown while I was playing, not nothing it, until I smell a fucking wire and see the smoke coming from the right corner of the screen. First thing I did was unplugging power source. And the second thing which came to my mind that I need to cut the wires with something, which actually kinda worked kinda not. I can still use the notebook via hdmi cable and external monitor plugged in. I don’t know how much would the repair cost.. and I don’t know, If I really wanna know how much It would cost me.. 😅
@@rafael2279 yep. Broke the other hinge too and jb weilded it also. Been going strong for a year! I’m more careful with it now. But it surprised me how strong it is.
hey there! got a similar problem with a similar MSI model. too-tight hinge cracked the bezel and broke the hinge from the bottom part of the body. and since this stupid thing is so expensive, i've felt apprehensive to try and repair it. your video has made me feel a little easier about attempting a repair. what do you recommend to use to re-glue the bezel back on? i don't want to use super glue or anything like that in case i need to dive back in to repair something else.

Hey thanks for the idea! I'm going to try this on my machine only one hinge is broken, do you think I could use some of the glue to strengthen the other side and prevent a break later?
Thankyou so much Andy, this was really helpful. I also used JD weld to fix the issue although JD Weld in my country(INDIA) is very expensive but I've heard that this is the best possible expoxy to fix these kind of issues. Thanks again for these videos. Also i have a question. Why do these Companies use low grade plastics or weak structure around the hinge because i had a similar experience with HP some years back and I'm a very gentle user, but somehow i feel the quality is somewhat bad in these laptops. Also in your experience which laptop has the strongest hinge. Apple ?

Replying to myself to help others. I didn't completely remove the bezel in mine as the hinge on the other side was intact. Added a wedge underneath the still attached bezel to get it out of the way. Did everything in this video on the broken side. I used a clamp tape with Lego bricks to clamp down using a disposable glove to keep epoxy out of my contraption. The Lego bricks focuses the force on just the hinge and the back panel. Left it for 24hrs and the bezel easily pops back in aligned since I left the other half attached. When separating the bezel, try to keep the adhesive stuck onto the underside of the bezel. It will try to detach from the bezel and get left on the back panel side. Just go slow and pause to stick it back to the bezel as you go.
