    Some years ago I let my standards slip. I gained weight and so much frumpiness . One day I looked in the mirror and didn't recognise myself. I decided to take action, I started to go jogging every day and meditate, I was struggling but I found Marie Anne Lecoeur and she helped me to see I was worth the effort. Since I had some serious scare but my style was already better and it helped me even more, from outside to inside. And now I only go for WOW outfit and my best smile. So thank you.🌹

      Yes looking your best makes you feel good on the inside! When I gain weight I always feel bad about myself and don’t want to get dressed. If I am afraid to put my jeans on because they are too small it’s a terrible feeling. It’s important to take care of ourselves inside and out.

    All points; spot on! Long ago, when I was young, a mature, well dressed, gentleman working as a shoe salesman, said “ you can elevate any outfit with great shoes, but the wrong shoes will always let you down”. I pay no attention to trendy shoes, and just wear the best classic loafers, trainers, and ankle boots that I can afford. I get many compliments on my outfits ( even from young people), although my classic clothing is really nothing special. I believe it’s all in how you wear your outfits.

    I'm working on Dumping the Frump in large part due to your help! I was always slender & fit but after retiring from riding & training dressage horses along with turning 50 I began to gain weight. Buying clothes became depressing. (I no longer wore a size 2.) I'm cleaning out my closets & working on a new wardrobe. I'm exercising more & eating less. Thank you for the inspiration!

    I occasionally look at photos from decades ago (here on the U.S.) when people used to dress up more and wonder how we got to the place we’re at now. Just about all I see are leggings and yoga pants. Those are fine in the right places, but not EVERWHERE.

    I’ve been working from home for about 10 years. Getting rid of my business attire is when I started the frump look. However I’m done with it. Ive started making changes to up level my look including finding a great hair stylist and adopting the French chic style, which appeals to me. My goal is not to hide in Zoom calls but to turn it on and be proud of my appearance.

    If bras for the more endowed did not cost over 100$ a piece we would be able to update them more frequently. What is the reason for such price difference I do not know. It's not that much more material. This is a pet peeve of mine along with women's razors and dry cleaning. Lol. There, I vented ☺️

    • @Elle_Gowing
      @Elle_Gowing 2 роки тому +1

      The difference is engineering. Larger boobs need more support, often underwired. One option is a good sports bra that fits well but doesn't show under clothes.

    • @Mo-mr8vv
      @Mo-mr8vv 2 роки тому

      @@Elle_Gowing a good sports bra is not less expensive. And if engineering was the difference than the bras themselves would actually work. I'm sorry if I sound obnoxious. I don't mean to. I paid 100 for each sport bra that I got in a specialty shop I have and I still have to wear something additional over it to exercise. I have tried all kinds and wasted numerous hours researching. And let's not get started on swimsuits because they just assume if you are large breasted that you are also fat!

    Trying to power through middle-age with a positive mindset can be hard. I have found that the less I like looking at what I am seeing in the mirror, the less I care which clothes I put on. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and gained a tummy I just can't seem to shift, I can't even suck it in any more. This past year I have started trying to improve my fitness, add some strength training and try to care more. I see so many middle-age women who spend a fortune on something like an outfit for a wedding but they wear the wrong underwear and ruin the look. They have wasted their money because they look like a sack of potatoes leaning against a barn wall! Good supportive underwear is more important than what goes on top.

When that happens it's easy to go into a spiral and the frump is just the tip of the iceberg. And it's essential to address the issues and emotions that led to it in the first place.

You have timeless advice for the modern age: I sometimes check Frech Vogue streetstlye and the best outfits actually follow your advice ( though often to extremes, as the people are mostly very young. Still they sport classics mixed with high quality items upcycled, and they take risks, or add personal touches. So, you are en trend with the inner meaning of artistry in fashion!) Decent underwear is key! I love some nice colours! I do the neutral thing but a splash of colour can perk things up! Even just a purse or shoes! I have a little boho streak. Head to toe boho is scary but a scarf or a shirt or a fun purse! I have great booties in all sorts of colours! I don’t think I have ever been frumpy, even when my weight is higher. A young woman I know came up to me today and stopped me and told me how good I looked. It made me feel great that she did that! I was in athleisure wear as I was returning from pickleball, but I have some neat little outfits to play in. I tend to avoid shapeless stuff or sweats or bulky clothes.

    I relocated to a new city a few months back - it's definitely more casual here as it's near cottage country . Lots of gardening to improve the large lot we have has resulted in me wearing things out in public here that I never normally would have . I just tell myself I'm blending in here - but it's really not my style . I had been wearing a red lip in recent years but there are certain looks one gets out with it in town here . This fall I'm going back to being me - a little more dressed than many women but that is my comfort level and being known as the woman with red lipstick isn't the worst thing people can say about you . I need to dump the frump before it becomes a habit .

      You totally should. It's going to be easier with you being new. People be more like "oh that's the new woman she always wears red lipstick" and so it's part of who you are, instead of like "oh why has she started wearing red lipstick now" and questioning why you've changed. Which you've totally got a right to change but there's always going to be people push against it, so best to start as you mean to go on

    I went shopping today and came home with fabulous dark wash jeans. The funny thing is that before I discovered your channel I wouldn't have found those jeans even if I went to the same shop - because I would have just taken the first pair that fit without thinking if I could do better. Today I didn't care about how many jeans I tried (4 different styles, 2 colours, 2 sizes). I kept going till I found those perfect jeans because now I believe that I am worth the effort and that my standards are worth maintaining. Thank you so much Marie-Anne! HI Sparklie, I had not owned any jeans for years. And then I saw how amazing Marie-Anne looks in them, and voila! I had to have some, too. I adore my slender dark wash jeans (two pairs now) and my faded boot cut jeans. They are modern and hip--and they look elegant with a fitted blazer and heels or boots. I like to wear my double chain gold belt in the loops of my jeans: instant upgrade.

    I finally decided to dress my age and not the age I used to be. Out went the tie dye shirts, the embroidered Mexican shirts and those shirts that were just worn to hide my body. It was very freeing and cathartic. I learned that I can bring in my favorite colors with scarves, jewelry and shoes. Classic looks great and I all in!

    Thanks for the tips, much appreciated! As a former retired NYC fashion illustrator and student of the history of costume/fashion, there are some looks that do indeed make a woman look frumpy! But, it's not always about weight, it's knowing what outfits look frumpy and what don't! One of the frumpiest looks I've seen on women esp. middle age or older women are cropped pants with heavy sneakers and straw hats! And another bad look is long maxi or midi dresses like the Boho Chic look which I happen to love worn with sneakers! Sneakers kill any look if they don't look good with certain outfits esp heavy running sneakers! Slim sandals or ballet flats would look better and with cropped pants that's more like the Audrey Hepburn elegant look. She never wore those heavy sneakers with her elegant outfits! I also find any scooped out neckline with the gathers also rather frumpy for some reason! There are other better looking necklines and V neck necklines are usually very lovely looking with dangly necklaces which is all the rage these days! I have a cousin in her 60s who is on the heavy side but she knows just how to dress for her build. She always looks classy and elegant and knows how to accessorize beautifully with long scarves and interesting jewelry! One notices her great style rather than her weight!🙂👗♥

    I style with color combinations a lot. I prefer low contrast combinations, analogous pairings and combine cool with cool, warm with warm. The current trends are warmer overall, even cool colors can become warmer. Think of a warm blue, it is a Persian blue, a midnight blue, a Robin's egg vs cobalt, navy or a French blue respectively. It seems, darker shades on the bottom half tend to work best for my shape. Yet, lighter is cooler especially in summer. So, either wearing light with light or medium with light at times often pairs well. It seems pastels can be cooler in summer. There are a lot of shades of sand and rust and auburn, which are warm desert colors, trending now. Mostly giving that color palette a pass, veering to a blue-green palette. Otherwise combos of red, navy, white, black, cream more often. Occasionally, med. brown, lt. denim blue, lt. brown, lt. taupe, lt. grey, pewter, lt. olive, jade, sea blue-green or khaki, light beige or lt. tan bottom whether shorts, skirt or pants.

    I hate to go anywhere unless I am dressed nice and have my hair and makeup done. My husband says it doesn’t matter , we are just going here and no one will look at you or no one will see you. He doesn’t understand that it is about how I feel about myself. I always notice what people look like and the ladies who look nice. I agree that good fitting foundations is most important! Look at yourself all the way around in a full length mirror before going out. The last couple of years, not counting lock down, I have tried to make new outfits. I used to hang matching items together. I used to wear mostly black without realizing it. Now I add color or a pop of color. There are a few trends each season that fits well with classic style. It is fun to add a trend though most of them don’t seem new!

    This was so good. About 10 years ago there was some really tough stuff happening in my life and my standards dropped badly, mostly because I was physically and mentally exhausted all the time by what was going on.
    Thankfully life has been a lot better in recent years and I have been making an effort to get my standards back to where they were before the bad years. You have been a great help with this, Marie Anne, and I owe you a big thank you.
    These days I do tend to mix my items up differently from year to year as I tend to get bored with them if I don’t and I really enjoy getting a new piece, or five, each season and working them into my wardrobe. It keeps getting dressed new and exciting.

      There is an online store that has elegant but pricey travel clothing. It is J. Peterman's, and they mail out the most beautiful catalogs. All the clothing is illustrated not photographed. But, if you go online, they might have them as photographs. Their items are absolutely exquisite, and they have some travel bags (leather). The catalog, which they mail, is reminiscent of the type that Banana Republic used to mail out and have in their stores back in the mid-1980s when they started as a travel store.

    SO glad I found your channel! I have many obstacles to wearing clothes because of health issues; yes, health issues. Because of this, bras, panties, anything that presses on my chest, waist or abdomen area makes me nauseated. However, after 8 years and your enthusiasm, I went to my closet and started afresh. It was difficult to find a size 42B bra that fit but I finally found one. After not wearing a bra for 8 years, no more sagging breasts. Basic white and black t-shirts that are made for woman. 3 new blazers. 2 pairs of jeans. A nice pair of black pants. I am on my way back to looking good. The biggest challenge is I am larger in the waist than hips or bust. And, after loosing 30 lbs., I have lots of loose skin on my upper and lower arms. I can't afford surgery so I am still experimenting to have upper arms covered without letting things flop. Thank you for your channel.
