I'm a 69 year old Brazilian granny. I wear size 10 -12. You know, most Brazilians have a more curvy figure even when we are young. Close to 70, things get more problematic. I love your tips and pieces of advice, Marie Ann, however, many times I realise that those items that flatter your slimmer figure with longer legs don't apply to me out to other women who have similar bodies to mine. If you got a friend with a plumper figure and tried out some outfits on her, it would help me and women like me so much! It would be lovely.
Your advice is always so practical! One thing I’ve noticed about my body as I am aging is that my weight is distributed differently than when I was younger. I’ve recently lost weight, but I’m carrying more weight in my tummy and waist then when I was younger but at the same weight. So I’ve had to make adjustments in my fashion choices to accommodate my body’s change in shape.
Congratulations on moving toward health! I’ve always been rectangular, but I too noticed a big change as I passed 50. It’s like all the fat cells migrated to my middle. 🍐🍎
I know what you mean. I am an apple shape and have lost a lot of weight in the past two years and it all comes off my arms and legs. Losing it between the bust and waist is proving to be impossible.
You saved me a fortune! I am guilty of an overflowing closet yet I have nothing to wear. I just bought some new clothes. After watching a previous video, I realized I bought more of what doesn't really look that good! I returned the items. I am honing down what I have and keeping only what I love to wear! I was buying what was advertised to woman of my age. But inside, I am not in that group - no wonder I felt so miserable every time I got dressed! Thank you! I think I have rediscovered myself!
So true about getting the lingerie right. My mum lived in France in the sixties and the mantra she always brought me up with was ' a French lady will always dress from the inside out ' . She always insisted that that I had good bras and briefs! Thanks as always for you invaluable advice Marie-Anne, you have shown me how to dress as I've always wanted ❤
My partner has always told me that confidence is a big plus for him. So, in spite of being a bigger, older woman, I've just updated my wardrobe with things that you've suggested give me more of a shape. He hates when I wear shapeless things. I need to remember that he enjoys and appreciates my shape. I need to also!
Good tips, as always. May I respectfully add another suggestion? Good posture, besides being beneficial anyway, will add up to a couple of inches in height compared to a slouched position. Plus, holding one’s self tall, head up, shoulders back, adds an immediate air of confidence. P.S. Having just returned from several weeks in the brutal heat of southern Europe, I can add that standing tall creates a bit of room between your clothing and your body, giving a chance for air to circulate and cool you a bit.
Thank you Elizabeth! A straight back and pulled-in tummy is essential for looking elegant and taller. During my nightly 5-mile speedwalks/running, I constantly remind myself to keep a straight back with a pulled in tummy and relaxed shoulders. Practice makes perfect.
I am short and a size 4 in US, and if I wear shapewear I manage to look and feel like my old youthful self. Being an inverted triangle, finding outfits can be a challenge. Sometimes I find I really like to show off my broad shoulders. If I wear clothes that widen my hips it balances my appearance. However, if I wear any dark colors below the waste it is a disaster. I look so much better in white jeans, and I disappear in dark jeans LOL. Thank you so much for your encouraging informative videos. Since watching you my wardrobe is much more stylish. :)
I’m a similar shape Debra, although a US size 8 in tops and 6 in bottoms. I am petite, with broad shoulders, large bust, no hips and (relatively) long legs. I find if I wear black pants/jeans, my bottom half looks too small and my legs look long and skinny. I tend to wear darker tops and lighter pants to widen my hips. I love white jeans and feel at my best when wearing them.
@@Jennie8684 Hi Jennie, I am very top heavy and a petite 5'2" with a pancake butt, skinny legs and short legs as well. I measure 36, 25, 34. Isn't it great that we can style clothes to make us look good? Flare leg pants in a lighter color than the top truly does work nicely. Peplum tops work nicely, too, as do v-neck tops. Some days I feel like I can fall over forward with these boobs being so out there. LOL But we are all beautiful none-the-less. After all, Angelina Jolie and Kaley Cuoco are both inverted triangles. :)
I am not 50+ yet (I am in my early 40s) but I am definitely taking notes. I am a rectangle - very athletic but without six pack abs. I do find that tummy flattening underwear helps me look and feel better. I am doing the best I can to be proactive in avoiding weight gain by having a very healthy diet, keeping food proportions in check, and staying active by running, swimming, yoga and lifting weights.
I have lost weight and am pleased with myself. I love black and you have given me ideas on how to dress myself this morning. Your advice is always helpful. My friends tell me I look elegant. I tell them about you but they won't listen. Many thanks
I found your channel yesterday, I LOVE your tips, I’ve binge watch as many as I can, and I’m still going, thank you so much for all your recommendations.
Dear Marie-Anne, You are such a beautiful woman inside and out. I love your enthusiasm and passion for elegance and educating others. All of these tips are so helpful. It is nice to know that I am already following these tips, especially the high heels, blazers, and pencil skirts. Thank you! Natalia Utah
When I shop for a purse I always stand in front of a store mirror to see if it fits me (like a dress or pants) I only buy purses that fit my physique unless I need a beach bag which is not a everyday purse. Thank you for mentioning that it makes me look slimmer. Good advice all in all.
Marie-Anne, I love how you embrace all women with compassion and technical knowledge. Since 60, I have been a slim hourglass, but I have gained weight and am now losing weight. 'Mon Dieu!; Do you have outfit suggestions for bodies changing from heavier to thinner?
So glad you showed the yellow "lamp shade" dress again: went shoppoing after your video about those sack dresses- meant to buy something light for at home in the heat- saw the perfect dress according to the gospel of Marie-Anne 😚- fittet bust, fold down the front (Kellerfalte in German), sort of african design in black and white, beautiful cotton, perfect length. Size up to L- thought I'll never fit, but bought it anyway to alter or try to copy. Put it on: it was (a little) TOO BIG!!!😅. Made my day! It is still lovely! Had to tell you! Wouldn't have dared if it weren't for your generous positiv all shape-and-size embracing advice! You are an angel! Thank you!!!!
What I love most with your videos is that it truly promotes self- love. It makes me embrace being over 50 with a resuscitated joy. It makes me wake up excited with the task of how I will present myself today, and more importantly, how can I live fully today by appreciating my uniqueness as a person. Thank you Marie- Anne. Know you are making a difference in the sense of wellness for many of us.
Well put, and I completely agree. I’m turning 50 in a couple of weeks and I’m actually feeling joyful about it. I’m looking forward to a new stage and Marie-Anne is giving me confidence for it.
Merci Marie-Anne, great advice as usual. I might add that good quality clothes will help with shaping the silhouette and will drape nicely on the body than cheap, fast fashion.
You look so fresh, cool and happy!! Love the blue/white striped shirt looks perfect with the sunshine and green leaves blowing the background. Once again I agree with all your suggestions which I always try to incorporate into my style. 🥰🙋♀️
Love the scenic background, but I have a suggestion. The white script on the video is too light to see against the light background. A darker script would be better. :)
I use good foundation! I'm apple shaped and have learned a good foundation along with a body shaper helps me look slimmer & nicer in my clothes. Thank you for this video.
Your tips have been so helpful in changing my way of dressing. I have always put comfort first which sometimes sacrifices chic style. Now when shopping for clothes I immediately think to myself "Marie-Anne would say this is frumpy!!" and I look for something more appropriate. French chic is the way to go! Merci beaucoup!!
Thank you Marie-Anne from beginning to completion a very encouraging informative view of style , well done and kind regards from Jules Sarten in Taranaki, New Zealand
So true about weight distribution as we age and of course the changing of our shape. Your tips and tricks today are practical and helpful to everyone regardless of size or shape. Since watching your channel Ive now lost 20kgs so my shape is constantly changing from the weight loss too. Im having a lot of fun creating my new wardrobe using your guidelines - they work!! xx
Anne-Marie you present yourself wonderfully, so expressive and fun. Yet you know what you're talking about, and the lovely way you dress. You make it look effortless ! Enchante madam ! 👍💜💕
Haven’t felt good about myself in years. My health has don’t been good in a few years. Going to Dr to work on weight and not seeing any results. In the middle I was told I have multiple myeloma and lucky it is in a stage called MGUS. Plus being vertically challenged doesn’t help. Enjoy your channel. This one is very helpful. Thank you from Colorado USA.
Hi Marie-Anne, wonderful tips as always, after reading your book To Be Chic and Elegant Plus size I donated all my tent dresses and I now look half my size. I also use Dark colours with my top half to recede my large tummy, and also the outfit you are displaying I wear too. Thank you so much for your advice.
I have a question for menopausal women about shapewear. Do they not make you sweat copious amounts? I'm a woman in my early 40ies but I have, for ten years now, been unable to wear synthetic fabrics. If I do I sweat a ton. I can only wear breathable natural fabrics, one hundred percent. If its even as little as 4% elastane added into a cotton top or t-shirt I get uncomfortably sweaty. So shapewear is really the worst thing to wear for me, since its pretty much entirely made of synthetic fibers. I'm thinking many women my age and older, with hot flashes etc, how do you manage wearing shapewear?? Do you have a trick up your sleeves? Or are there perhaps shapewear in natural fibers?? Would love to hear about your experiences 🙏
I very much enjoy your videos and have incorporated many of the ideas into my wardrobe! For instance, I would never have bought a Breton top since I am short! But now I have two as your videos show if done right, one does not look any shorter 😁! This video has several great ideas! Thank you for your excellent content!
It was quite easy and self positive. Thank you for being positive and constructive as alwas by first emphasizing that we should accept ourselves and then we can explore of our own choosing new ideas and adjust to our new reality. I think your presentation skills are brilliant too!
I'm sixty four and I've just discovered Tee shirt bras! for years I have worn sport bras because of my ever changing size, and before I had my breast reduction, I was a housewife. I put my kids first and so with little money and time I just wore baggy tee shirts. Now I am retired I am focusing on me at last! In six months I have lost forty five pounds and every day I tell myself it's for me! Now I have a bit of shape, and with your help, I have started wearing more form fitting clothes and I realize the need for good undergarments. I always thought the padded tee shirt bras would make me look bustier when in fact they do the opposite because I'm shapelier. I recommend Bali bras. Thank you Marie-Anne 💕
My latest look has been the jumper. That is sleeveless dress, mostly V-neck, over a blouse. I hadn't thought about a lighter skirt for my inverted triangular shape with a darker top. A new skirt, or two is on my shopping list along with replacement blazers.
I just bought my first jumper in years and years. I cannot wait to wear it. It's a basic black one from White House Black Market, and I plan on wearing a silk, ivory blouse under it with black tights and tall black boots with stiletto heels. C'mon autumn!
@@nataliamiles7109 I have a long navy jumper. I can change the blouse under the print dress from Coldwater Creek that I am currently wearing to change the look completely, depending on what color I want to emphasize. It was why I bought it. It sounds like you are ready for a night out on the town.
Hello Marie-Anne, i was wondering if you can do a video on transitiinal pieces from summer to fall. I always have a difficult time with this thank you.
Dear Marie-Anne, First of all, to express my gratitude to you for your wonderful information - so useful, sensible, practical..... and for being such a positive new force in my life. You are so inspiring, refreshing to listen to, delightful, and BEAUTIFUL. Please keep doing these amazing clips, stay healthy and safe, along with your loved ones, and know that you are changing and empowering womens' lives in incredible ways.
Miss Marie-Anne! I have been looking for your insight ALL MY LIFE! I really appreciate what you've provided and I'm clearing my closet today! I'm richly dark complexioned, carrying more weight around the middle that misshapes my "H" figure, for now. I really love "jewel" tones but I understand your guidelines. Thank you!
Can you do a video on flattering jewelry. I have trouble with scale. Flatter chest. Bigger tummy. Short hair. And how do I put that together with clothing?
Merci, very practical advice. BTW I was watching old Mireille Mathieu videos, and she was always wearing French Chic clothes. Always perfect with the hair cut and minimal make-up even still at her older age. Always admired her and her singing. Just wanted to add this because the one thing from learning from your videos, is to have a silhouette and waist and of course you are so right.
Thank you for all your wonderful advice. Please show us what bras to buy for the trickier summer necklines and strappy dresses and tops. I tend to avoid straps because I don't know about the bras . Also I don't want to look untidy.
I didn’t gain weight in middle age, but my waist thickened by at least 4-5 inches anyway, making it so much harder to find clothes. It is indeed frustratingly difficult to find non-baggy, loose dresses that fit my waist and the rest of my body, but there are some out there, keep searching. My compromise is that I wear the comfortable shapeless ones when home alone, which is the majority of my time, but a better-flattering, more tailored one when I go out. Tailored dresses, if bought to fit the largest measurement, the waist and bust in my case, can usually be tailored to improve the fit elsewhere. I recommend washing and machine-drying them at least once (if this will be the future care routine), before getting the tailoring done, if natural-fiber fabric, which is a must for me. I never put clothes in my dryer, though, unless I deliberately want to shrink them.
All I have to say is EXCELLENT 👏 I do a lot of these mainly because I am short. I really liked the jacket tip. I will definitely pay more attention to the length. Thanks you ❤️❤️❤️
I needed these fashion tips. I am short and an hour glass figure. I recently during last two stressful years gained 20 lbs. These are great tips to help me feel better while I lose that weight. Thank you. 🤗❤️
Hello. I have a dressy blouse that I love, but my bra straps show. What sort of supportive foundation garments (bras) do you wear for strapless or almost strapless blouses? I am not a large person, but gravity has had its way with me! Thank you!
I am just the opposite. I think because of all my spinal surgeries it has affected my appetite. I no longer can’t eat gluten or anything that isn’t fresh. So what’s happened is I’ve dropped a lot of weight. About 15 pounds. I’m small to begin with and now I feel like this is a good weight for me. It feels like the older I get the smaller I become. I’m only 5 foot two and I weigh 138 pounds. I love your videos because it’s helped me dress much better, even when I am just at home. I love fashion and always have since a young girl.🇺🇸
Great tips, I use them all, except for the shapewear, which overheats me. I save it for special occasions, when I’m more willing to endure discomfort for a short time, not for everyday.
Great tips as always! 👍🏻 I've also noticed that with age the tops with even slightly dropped shoulders don't work anymore... somehow creating the large and sloppy silhouette 🧐. Maybe with age choosing flattering over trendy is a good idea after all 😊.
Hahaha! I can relate to the bottom getting bottomy --We pears must keep watch on this area!😄 Marie-Anne, do you have a video recommending lingerie brands? The Daily Connoisseur has done a few which are great. I would love to know what a French woman would recommend!!
Deareest Marie-Anne! Thank You for the greatest advices! I practise that every day. I love bootcut trousers in black or navy colour. There is no life without my stilettos. :-) I would like to ask You what is Your opinion about turtleneck sweaters? Naturellement in black or blue colour. Have a nice evening: Your Judit
I totally agree with your statement: "There is no life without my stilettos." I wear them daily and feel so elegant and feminine. I recently turned down a teaching position, since one of their fatuous rules is "No stilettos for women," even though I would only be in the classroom and nowhere else, such as the playground. Why would I limit myself in this manner and dress as a frump? No thank you. It is not the Dark Ages, thank you ever so much. Welcome to Utah.
Please don’t laugh but I don’t even own a full length mirror and usually avoid them at all costs 😆 I know I am not slim (yet!) I am giving myself a year, under my doctors’ supervision! I hope to be a healthy “wow” next summer! For now enjoying improving health! Merci Marie-Anne💞
Yes, as Marie-Anne said, no snacking. I find this difficult, so I snack on food that hardly has any calories, such as watermelon. Yum! Celery with some low-calorie dressing is also something that helps me get through the snacking cravings--instead of something fattening, such as chips, cookies, etc. I have a sweet tooth so the watermelon substitutes for sugary things. I also love to snack on a nectarine, sliced. Yum!
Merci beaucoup, Marie-Anne, for your excellent style tips. You continue to be my favourite UA-camr! May I make a suggestion? It is difficult to read the words at the bottom of your screen, as the white letters blend into the light background. Perhaps a darker font colour would prevent the letters from disappearing.
I like to wear one colour only as I find this to be slimming. I go for A line skirts which flatter my tummy area. i wear jackets which are fitted and fall below my tummy area which is more flattering. During the summer I tend to go for brighter colours but recently got a summer dress in khaki green which suited me perfectly. It had thin straps, was fitted around the bust and flared out. I loved the darker colour.
Maire Anne, great tips as usual. Will you consider to make a video about shape ware? I am in 40's, still slim, but my tummy is getting softer and bloat more often. When I wear fitted dress with thin material, I feel self-conscious. I don't think I need or can stand the full-on shape ware as I live in Houston and it will be very hot and uncomfortable. If you could advise what type of shapeware are good for what type of issues(a little help or a lot of help needed) , in what season, that will be wonderful. Thank you.
Wearing jeans or pants that are low rise or mid rise makes a woman look much heavier. Choosing high rise pants or jeans is slimming and elongated the legs. Buying the right size pants or jeans is important. Many women who are heavier try to cram themselves into a too small size!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I'm 75 yrs old. Over the last year I have lost 55 lbs and have been lifting weights and doing resistance Training. I feel better now than I did when I was 50. Building and maintaining muscle mass is so very important for health, agility and well being. I work out at home and I go to the gym 2-3 times a week and walk on the treadmill. There is also great benefit to the brain function from exercise. I was a size 2 X. Now wearing a 14. I finally learned you have to fight for your "Best Life" every day!
I’m not skinny but just about the right weight and take barely a B cup in a bra. I just thrifted a black maxi dress with a V neck and defined waist that flares at the hips. It looked a bit like the first black dress you showed. I thought it was fine when I looked in the mirror at home but when I saw myself in another mirror while I was out I looked so skinny that I was in a bad humour all the way home. I didn’t love myself in that moment. This video explains why the dress looks so awful on me while a light blue dress with the same shape and a higher neckline doesn’t. Oh and my widest part is my thighs. That’s why I never liked longer jackets.
Great. Sounds so simple, feels like you are a real good friend. 👍

I very much enjoy your videos and have incorporated many of the ideas into my wardrobe! For instance, I would never have bought a Breton top since I am short! But now I have two as your videos show if done right, one does not look any shorter 😁! This video has several great ideas! Thank you for your excellent content!
Lots of great advice and examples. Thank you!
Great analysis video.
Great tips Marie-Anne, I'm already implementing them from your previous vids and they work wonderfully ....thank you and God bless.
Gillyx
Txs for your great slim pickings! :)
Thank you Marie-Anne
😘
@@deborahwilson6970 Sounds pretty!
Hello Marie-Anne, i was wondering if you can do a video on transitiinal pieces from summer to fall. I always have a difficult time with this thank you.
Bonjour Marie-Anne! Great tips!! Merci!! 💕🥂
Fantastic!
Love you so much Madam Marie from Egypt! You're amazing!!
Appreciate your helpful advice.
Thanks
Miss Marie-Anne! I have been looking for your insight ALL MY LIFE!
I really appreciate what you've provided and I'm clearing my closet today!
I'm richly dark complexioned, carrying more weight around the middle that misshapes my "H" figure, for now.
I really love "jewel" tones but I understand your guidelines.
Thank you!
Love your videos. I am learning a lot from you. However, your audience is not only ladies over 50 😉🥰
Marie-Anne, very good video i love the monochromatic look I use that frequently. Thank you for all your wonderful tips
Thank you thank you thank you....
I'm so glad I found your channel! Love all your videos. Thank you so much. ❤️🌻
Thank you for all your advice . I live in india therefore do wear a lot of bright colours! But I do follow your basic advice
Marie Anne I love the blouse you are wearing, I bought very similar one only yesterday
@@MarieAnneLecoeur
at the moment I love to style it with dark blue denim jeans and either sneakers or loafers Marie Anne
All good advice for fall, winter & spring but what to do in the heat of summer?
Learned something new! Didn’t realize that purse/bag size would have an effect! Good to know! :)
I like my slim hips and legs, so I often wear white, especially, or light-colored bottoms with a darker top, a very chic look! I’m a busty rectangle.
I have a penchant for peasant blouses. They are not overly billowy, and I’m thinking about tucking them into my trousers for a new look.
I'm in my mid 30s, and love your advice and tips! Thank you for these amazing and helpful videos Marie!👌😊
I am enjoying every moment of watching your videos. Thanks.
Yup. The tum is definitely tummier. I used to love tiered dresses and bought a few recently. Sadly, I do look awful.
Can you do a video on flattering jewelry. I have trouble with scale. Flatter chest. Bigger tummy. Short hair. And how do I put that together with clothing?
Marie You have soo energy ⚡ ✨😘I love your movie. Chic, Chic, Chic. Thank You
Merci, very practical advice.
Such great advice Marie-Anne - thank YOU‼️🙋♀️🇺🇸💕
Thank you for all your wonderful advice. Please show us what bras to buy for the trickier summer necklines and strappy dresses and tops. I tend to avoid straps because I don't know about the bras . Also I don't want to look untidy.
Yes, I agree 😁
Thank you. 🤗❤️
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you. I love your videos. 🤗
Hello. I have a dressy blouse that I love, but my bra straps show. What sort of supportive foundation garments (bras) do you wear for strapless or almost strapless blouses? I am not a large person, but gravity has had its way with me! Thank you!
I have a bra top that I use Janszpara 😃 you can find them out Uniqlo x
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you very much!
Hi Marie-Anne, What is your opinion of jumpsuits ? They seem to be everywhere at the moment. What should we look for and what should we avoid ?
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Thank you Marie-Anne.
Thank you
"the legs of a gazelle"? Love it, Marie-Anne...
Keep at it R! Slow and steady is the mantra that I use. Before you know it, you will reach your goal!
@@nataliamiles7109 Thank you 🙏🏻 I appreciate the encouragement 😊
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Thanks Marie-Anne.
You look amazing...what does your diet consist of ?
Miss Marie-Anne your slimmer lessons on video is brilliant darling and great tips my Beautiful Teacher god bless l love you kiss muah ♡♡
You're welcome my Sweet Queen
Could you please talk about how to make twin sets look less dated? Thanks
Over 50, pear shape. Love A line dresses, Shirtdress and a waist that starts under the bust.
I just ordered a cinched waist blazer. We need to watch our carbohydrates as we get older. Fat around our waist= Insulin resistance.
