Mike got paid equally from 1997 to 2003 where he literally contributed nothing to the group. He missed shows without telling people. He actually went missing during the release of their last album as 4 members ( the full circle album). He sabotaged that album forcing LA Reid to release the group from Arista records. Its a lot that Mike did that the remaining members have hid from the public
trueskool1977 though I have listened to the Full Circle album a gazillion times since it came out, until I read your comment I hadn’t realized that Mike wasn’t on any of the songs.....at least not that I can remember. Wow! Shawn said he wasn’t as passionate about music like the rest of them were and maybe that was because he wasn’t that good of a singer as the others. He made a major contribution to the group in the harmony singing bass, which was dope for that era. The sound of music started to change by the time they started recording Full Circle, which was phasing out 4 and even three part harmonies. I believe him feeling like he wasn’t as talented as they were, the lack of need for a bass singer, and his MS all led to his depression and ultimately leaving the group. It really was sad.
@@standforluv no he is on the album. What people don't know is that nate shawn and wanya wrote half of the groups songs since the 1st album cooleyhighharmony. In my life following entertainment and entertainers and talk shows, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a celebrity say to an interviewer “ask it” when he or she knew it was going to be a hard question. Props to Shawn
And MS can affect you in very complex ways that people that don’t have it don’t understand those even close to you don’t understand... I have it and I know I don’t you are so drained
I wish he had watched the Iyanla show with Mike because Iyalan helped Mike understand that his handling of MS affected his personal relationships with not just his band members and friends but with his family. It was deep and it wasn't about exposing his band members but about helping Mike take accountability for his lack of communicating his issues and dealing with them but expecting everyone in his life to know what he was feeling all while not saying what he felt.
My sister has MS and every day is different. She wasn’t even 30 when she was diagnosed. She can barely walk, always in pain & sometimes can’t even get out of bed depending on the weather. The side effects from her medication makes her depressed and sometimes very irritated or angry. Imagine having to use a cane before you are even 30 years old & having something that cannot be cured. The rest of the group probably did not understand what he was going through or maybe they didn’t ask so he felt like they would not understand.
@@tanishawalls8689 💯Exactly! I watched it when it aired too and you summarized it up well. I also have a 1st cousin I grew up very close to that has MS...Which is why as much as I like Shawn...in fact, Shawn and Mike have ALWAYS been my 2 favorites in the group...but I still feel like Shawn is on some real BS in this interview and here's why I say that.... First of all...He said he didn't watch more than a few seconds of the show because Mike knows "they don't get down like that airing dirty laundry on tv shows etc.. "...I call BS on that...cause let's NOT forget Shawn had pics with his full time mistress he was out right cheating on his wife with for years surfacing all over the internet...dirty laundry publicly displayed bro... 2nd...Every single time they are interviewed and asked about the Mike situation they tell the story as if it was all on Mike just acting like a no show...lazy...uncommitted ass...more specifically I'm referring to the Larry King interview they did where they all just dog Mike out and talked about him so badly and made it sound like he was just a lazy person that wanted to keep getting paid without working...which was NOT at all the case...that Larry King interview is also posted here on UA-cam...but I digress... Like you said, if he had watched the full Iyanla show episode he would have gotten a more clearer perspective of what was REALLY going on with Mike...who he by the way say's is still his "brother"...well had he watched the show he'd realized from it that Mike did not go on there to expose any dirty laundry about them...he went on the show for his own personal emotional and mental and spiritual healing breakthrough...which included his past situation as member of the group with them...but he also revealed that he was going through a very deep depression during the period of first being diagnosed with MS...which again...had Shawn watched the whole show would've known is probably the reason Mike became so withdrawn to the degree of not even answering his door or any phone calls during that time period... The man was going through it so badly from his MS diagnosis that he even alienated himself from his own wife and kids causing himself to lose them as well...so come on Shawn...if he say's Mike is still and will always be his brother then my issuse with them is where is the compassion for your so called brother...especially after now knowing that the underlying reason for his sudden estranged behavior was due to a VERY serious health condition called MS which led to him going into a very deep depression... But all that aside...Now all of them being full grown men and no longer boys and all these years later have past without even speaking...where's the brotherhood in that...why not reach out to each other now and make amends on both sides...especially with all the current madness going on in the world and our country currently...we all may not get a tomorrow to make things right with folks we really love... So that's what I have a problem with...that they still have not tried to talk and make it right with each other after all this time and have gone on not speaking for far too long yet keep saying he's their brother. Where's the empathy you would show a true brother? Ijs Sorry for my rant...they're not losing money or sleep over our opinions though...I'm sure they could careless what we think. Lol😏💗

You know something, we really want to believe that things can be mended with these groups we've grown up with. And I believe they can, but I also know that people grow and change. And Shawn said something interesting that "Mike wasn't as ambitious about music as they were." And sometimes that's the case. Sometimes it's the kind of music that a member may want to break away from doing. Either way, I've always enjoyed Boyz II Men. Quality group.
@Joe Smith Mike kept everything to himself he went into a deep DEPRESSION that caused him to be distant from the guys. Plus he didn't told him them he had MS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.
I’m so glad I finally got to hear another version of what took place between Mike and his former group members. Initially, when I heard the other three guys wouldn’t let him back into the group, it left a bad taste. I began to look at them totally different. It was said they didn’t want him back because they didn’t want to split the money four ways anymore. If Mike had decided to come back, he wouldn’t even receive an equal share. I was devastated because these cats were my favorite group in the late 90’s. Anyway, thanks Shawn for putting your brief spin on what took place. I personally have to remember there’s always two (or four in this case) sides to a story. Keep grinding guys, peace.
I worked at Arista form 2000 until 2003. And at that time thay rush that album and did it in a mouth. I didn't see Mike. But at the end of the day. I hope that thay sit down in talk it out. Even if it just for the brother hood. Mike is dealing with MS, and if you are dealing with somebody with MS. You would know that could be a very emotional rollercoaster at times. For the person that have it and relationships that they are in(all types)
OH wow, I didn't know he had MS. That changes things entirely in terms of fans wanting him to take part in the group again. Physically he likely is not up to that; the rigors of being a performer are tortuous for many with the disease.
Shawn is such a great spirit. Hopefully God willing they can all reach a point of clarity and all get back on the same page. We are all forever in debt to such a wonderful group of immense talent for blessing up with their music.
I appreciate him speaking about this. If you saw Mike on Iyanla Fix my life and Mike said he didn’t communicate his problems with his brothers/ group members. It has to be deeper than the surface because Mike also stated that he didn’t keep in touch with his own children for years, smh. I do hope that one day they can come back together.
Mike confession wasn't easy he admit he went into a deep, DEPRESSION that kept him distant from the guys. Plus when he reveal that he had MS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS he didnt trust them. Him not telling his wife didnt had anything to do with the group.

Back in 2009, Biography did a special on Boyz ii Men and they gave more details about what happened with Mike. He was into it when they were huge megastars but started to become unreliable when things got bad. Basically, as their popularity started to decline, Mike wasn't showing up to shows and other appearances. Also he was lying (yes lying) about his ability to perform on stage. We all know he has MS, but Wanya said that Mike told them he couldn't perform on stage with them...yet they saw him playing full contact basketball. The straw that broke the camel's back was when Mike didn't show up to an international performance in Romania. They sent a car to Mike's house to get him to the airport, but Mike's wife told them to go on without him so only the three of them (Shawn, Wanya, Nate) went to the show. Guess what? They got sued for breach of contract since the 4th member (Mike) didn't show up. Mike was costing them business. Despite this, they were STILL paying him. Then, not too long after this, there was an incident at Wanya's house when Shawn and Mike got into an argument and Mike checked Shawn into a wall (Mike even admitted to this). From that day on, they all agreed that he was out of the group and he's been gone ever since. This whole story was told by the group on the Biography channel. You can go watch the video yourself at the biography website. As of today (June 14, 2020) the video is still up. The part about Mike starts at the 33 minute mark. They don't owe Mike anything. He chose his own fate. Like Shawn said, he wasn't as passionate about the music as they were and his disinterest and unreliability is the reason he's gone.
MIKE WENT INTO A DEEP DEPRESSION THE FELLAS DIDNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT. THEY THOUGHT HE WAS JUST DISTANT. PLUS MIKE HAVE MS AND HE DIDNT WANT ANYONE TO KNOW THAT. WHAT YOU LEFT OUT IS SHAWN PICK THE ARGUEMENT.
@@celestematthews3266 Despite his depression, they did everything in their power to keep him involved, motivated, and paid. They didn't turn their backs on him, he turned his back on them. And yes Shawn picked the argument because they were all fed up with his behavior which led to the group getting sued and losing business. If Mike had been taking care of his duties as a member of the group, there would not have been anything to argue about. Plus, even though Shawn "picked" the argument, Mike is the one who escalated it to a physical altercation.
Ken Snyder Yes I understand that basketball could be good physical therapy. My point is that if he had the ability to play full contact b-ball then he also had the ability to show up to performances and other appearances.

They have said in other interviews that they had to rebuild their career afterwards and they almost broke up. They were each about to try and do solo careers. I know Shawn and Wan have solo songs from that period. I am so happy that they were able to severe the relationship with Mike and not end the group. No one else besides Boyz II Men have take what started as a Boy Band and thrived for 3 decades. I am super happy to have had my favourite boy band last all of these years. I have got the opportunity to see them 2 times in concert and met them once. They spent a significant amount of time with me when I met them :-) If they had broken up I would never have been able to. I wish Mike well, but I don't feel bad about it.
I am glad that Shawn explained everything because I had my own personal protest against the group as I thought that the group did Mike wrong. Now hearing the other side, I can understand and have a better appreciation for the group. It is still not the same without him, but I can now not associate the group with negativity and wrong doings.

I know what it's like to have a person not match you drive. It's frustrating when you have to always be the one reaching out, or having to make sure they are holding up their end of the bargain. Especially when it comes to just picking up the phone or answering the phone. It does come to a point to where there is nothing more you can do side from continuing to pacify the situation and further frustrating everyone. It then becomes a burden to do even the simple of routine task. I understand why they had to let him go. When you've tried to hold on and the other party isn't trying to hold on you're just carrying dead weight at that point. Then it is what it is.
"I would (hug him if he showed up at my door) but I'm like...that's my brother... we're brothers...he'll always be my brother". SO TALK TO HIM. It's been YEARS. You can disagree, argue, fuss and fight while still communicating and having an eagerness to reconcile.
I'm grateful i listened to this because Boyz is Men is my favorite group and I was so disappointed with them. Nate DID throw a great deal of shade on Shade45 Lord Sear's show in regards to Mike. I like Shawn's tactful response.
I believe he Shawn should've watched the show Mike never put the group down and he really let a lot of his feelings out. Maybe he would've seen his perspective
It’s sad when your friends since childhood then unfortunately something like this happens. Walter Williams (The O’Jays) went through the same thing but he continued I work but he said he was in a lot of pain. Everyone is different.
@M B True but all of the drama plus the other three guys shaded Mike in interviews. Life is to short plus Shawn said he haven't seen Mike in years the last he heard Mike was on Iyanla show.
I never got the vibe that mike was as devoted as the others. I don't think he loved it as much. I think they got tired of begging and said fuck it. I don't think Mike appreciated the image of Boyz 2 Men. I think they were a lil softer than who he was. The back issues made it a lot easier to leave. I would have still recorded with the group but not toured. He could've at least still got paid sumn for that.
No sense in continuing to record when that’s not what people are going to hear at a show. That’ll only disappoint people who are looking to hear what they heard on the record.

For Nate 2 come 2 his house & he chooses not 2 answer the door knowing who it was ringing that bell or knocking on that door is hurtfull, i have respect for mike but you have to tell your brothers what's going on so they can help because they love you, im sure if Nate, Wanya, or Shawn was going through the same issues Mike would want either of them to communicate with him instead of walking away from what they built together.

Well, he confessed on Iyanla that he was diagnosed with MS and he didn't feel like he could tell his band members.
Alexander J. Battle they knew
Ijs
Sorry for my rant...they're not losing money or sleep over our opinions though...I'm sure they could careless what we think. Lol😏💗
I pray they all come together and give their fans a new album.shawn seems really sincere and honest.

It will be like the normal jokes we play with ourselves!

I have got the opportunity to see them 2 times in concert and met them once. They spent a significant amount of time with me when I met them :-) If they had broken up I would never have been able to. I wish Mike well, but I don't feel bad about it.

ITS MORE THAN THAT MIKE WENT INTO A DEEP DEPRESSION THAT CAUSED HIM TO BE DISTANT FROM THE GUYS. ITS OUT THERE NOW THEY NOW SHAWN IS SAYING MIJE IS THRE BROTHER FOR LIFE BUT THEY CAN'T SIT AND TALK .
I love this man💗💗💗
Going to listen to cooleyhigharmony just because
Maybe he stopped showing up for shows because he was tired of watching yoku all be jerks. The ppl are saying that Mike was the only down to Earth one.
This shit reminds me of the five heart beats movie.
😂😂😂💯True
They are the best! What I took from this is that they are brothers!
Mike admitted his part for him leaving the group. Especially when Iyanla made him accountable for his own actions towards the other members.
But she didn't actually make him accountable, he once again blamed EVERYONE ELSE for HIS LIES. He only went on it to get sympathy.
I will always love boyz to men my favorite male group of all times, they're grown men now Shawn said he dont wanna say to much but they did throw shade at Mike.
A true gentleman I say👊🏾
Sounds like Mike was distancing himself due to MS.
Angel Johnson no they didn’t
@@amcra1 Mike keep alot of things to himself and that's why when he went into a deep DEPRESSION. They thought he was just off and didn't want to work.
@Angel Johnson ok
Mike said that because of his back problems he became less interested and started drinking excessively which led to him not making promo duties
@@arnoldsiebu9202 I never the guys if boyz ii men say MIKE had a drinking problem. Mike went into a deep DEPRESSION with caused him to separate himself from the guys. Plus he never mentioned he had MS, it's out there now so they're grown men .
They also said “we realized we don’t need him we can do them notes” stop that capping Shawn
They was on tour last year and sold out
GREAT FOR THEM MY FAVORITE MALE GROUP OF ALL TIMES, IF MIKE HAD REUNITE AGAIN IT'LL GO DOWN IN HISTORY.
As the old saying simply says sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone.
He's so good looking!
When the camera's on, it's very easy to say that it's all about business and nothing personal. There's so much left to be said in this case and even Shawn said at the end of this clip that "brothers fight and have disagreements too". That line only shows how much there are personal matters to deal with as well. We don't everything in this one...
They tried to get him back he ain't come what more they can do.🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️. It is what it is.
Mike said that he has multiple sclerosis, not scoliosis, very different actually. He admitted that he should've told them and his wife but it was a hard diagnosis to deal with.
