- This video addresses the Adam God doctrine as taught by Brigham Young. Though the modern LDS church denies it, early prophets claimed to believe it by revelation of God.

Just yesterday, during a Sunday School session about another subject (the Book of Abraham), the instructor referred to "the prophet Brigham Young", verbatim, so apparently Brigham Young is STILL considered a prophet. Regardless of what he taught.

Here's a news flash for you: Even prophets have a right to express a personal opinion.
And people can refute prophets, as Mormons did with Young's Adam-God doctrine. And they refute Doc Nelson today and his false teachings, as evidenced by the scores of people leaving the church. Especially this week, with the revelation that a sister missionary was raped in the MTC by the center's then-president. And the church, presided over by Doc Nelson as an apostle then and today as president, covered it all up.

Great Video! One quick question dealing with part of this topic, do you believe anyone when they say they receive direct revelations from God during our time. I complete disagree with any person who says that that have received a revelation like Young. I generally would ask, why would God choose to reveal something to someone when we already have the direct word of God in the bible.. Thoughts?

Wait a minute. An LDS friend of mine, who was a bishop, was explaining his belief in the Adam God concept to me back in around 1996. I was shocked by the whole thing, that this would be taught. So yeah, some of their teachings didn’t die out as quick as their apologists hoped. The LDS church is trying really hard to appear Christian. But a lot of their first teachings are rather embarrassing.
So God who had multiple wives became a man and the result was not going back to his God exaltation but rather was demoted to an angel rather than God and this is our father/ancient of days? And what would the point be as a human man to work so hard to become a god one day if he too can become a man again and if he does one thing not exactly how it should be then when that man who was a god goes back to spirit he is demoted as angel forever when before he was a god and worked hard to be one just to mess it up and become an angel eternally ministering and nothing else. "Adam" came here with "Eve" his wife in their already resurrected celestial bodies willingly They ate and partook of the foods of this earth until their bodies became mortal again. In this they were able to bring their spirit children down to earth so that they could have a chance to "pass their test" and become like them (Adam and eve). The only way you can create spirit children in the next life is if you agree to go back to an earth and start your family so that all your spirit children can have a chance to do what you did. Adam wasn't made of the dust of the earth. He was born of a woman on a different earth, he passed his test there with his wife and were resurrected to God and Goddess status and agreed to come back to an earth to start their children.
They did not sin when doing this.
The old testament is an anthropomorphized mythological account of things seen in the sky in ancient times. Much study and a willingness to learn many unfamiliar concepts is a key to having the spirit teach. Keeping to traditions keeps one closed off

So did Young just ignore the ENTIRE story of Adam and Eve? Like how God created the universe, then them, visited them as a seperate being, kicked them out of the Garden of Eden for transgressing His one rule for them, and they lived human lives and died.

It really not a problem at all. Notes referring to youngs teachings are confusing and contradictory. Sometimes he talked out of his rear. Prophets are men learning like the rest of us.
I disagree. Prophets may be men, but regular men don't claim to speak for God. When someone is claiming to speak for God and that what they are saying has been revealed to them by the Holy Spirit they need to be held to the highest possible standard.
The supposed Adam God idea was never actually lds church doctrine even at the time Young said it the rest of the first presidency, the twelve and the seventy said it was incorrect as it went against the standard works. I.E the Tanakh,New Testament, and even their Book of mormon. If you research the mormon religion properly, you find that if it's not in the Doctrine and covenants and the bible Book of mormon, it is not classed a cannon. Scripture is agreed on by conscious in mormonisum.

Deny it all you want, but Brigham taught the "Adam-God" DOCTRINE from the pulpit, and Bruce McConkie, to his credit, admitted it in 1981. And according to Brigham himself, if he taught it, it was SCRIPTURE. Bring 'em Young taught all kinds of wacky and goofy stuff, like people living on the sun, God having sex with Mary to beget Jesus, blood-atonement, etc., etc., etc. If any of these guys were really prophets, then at least ONE of their prophecies over the last nearly 200 years would have come to fruition. But they always makes excuses, rationalize, ignore, or whatever it takes to keep chanting "The Church is true!" "The Church is true!" "Mormonism" works best for those who don't think too much, don't ask too many questions, and don't do too much research.
Now the church has taken a leap away from the name "Mormon" , Russell Nelson threw Gordon Hinckley under the bus over the matter. Russ said the Lord is "offended" with the use of the term, and the use of the word Mormon is "a victory for satan". So.... apart of Russ inadvertently alluding to Jesus suffering the spiritual malady of allowing Himself to suddenly become offended, this situation obviously existed before Russ became president yet the god of Mormonism hadn't informed His previous church presidents of this issue until Russ took the throne.
These and many more things make Mormonism very problematic. Of course they'll try telling you otherwise.
I disagree. I think many people just aren't open minded enough to let the spirit confirm to them that something is true. They don't want the pure, simple and naked truth, whatever it may be. Gotta keep to their traditions
In the Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, section 132 deals with POLYGAMY ~~~ and is STILL IN FORCE TODAY (at March 2018). The introduction reads:
"Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded July 12, 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant and the principle of plural marriage. Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, evidence indicates that some of the principles involved in this revelation were known by the Prophet as early as 1831. See Official Declaration 1.
1-6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant; 7-14, The terms and conditions of that covenant are set forth; 15-20, Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21-25, The strait and narrow way leads to eternal lives; 26-27, The law is given relative to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost; 28-39, Promises of eternal increase and exaltation are made to prophets and Saints in all ages; 40-47, Joseph Smith is given the power to bind and seal on earth and in heaven; 48-50, The Lord seals upon him his exaltation; 51-57, Emma Smith is counseled to be faithful and true; 58-66, Laws governing plural marriage are set forth.".
Joseph Smith states:
"For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.".
Section 132 is still in force, not only teaching polygamy, but ordering it! Note that it is an "everlasting covenant", i.e. it lasts forever, cannot be cancelled. You can read Section 132 here:

Brigham Young: "Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 266).
He also stated: "The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 11, page 269).
How, then, can the Mormon church say that it does NOT approve of polygamy today?

It's pretty simple to understand. Your assumption about Section 132 being "still in force" is just flat-out false. It's also clear that you do not understand what you've read about "the new and everlasting covenant". Seems you've gleaned your information from anti-mormon sources instead of from careful reading of material you claim to know.
They just say it because they are liars and are fallen away from God. Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were true prophets of God. God intended for a man to have multiple wives even to sleep with 2 in his bed at night. 2 children conceived to different wives on the same night is considered a most high blessing, especially if each wife is there to witness the other.

I never thought this Adam-God theory made a lot of sense. Brigham Young and three later presidents of the church taught it. It is no longer a doctrine. You can read the sermons on this topic in Journal of Discourses. Of course Brigham Young also banned blacks from getting the priesthood. Enough said.
D&C 27.11 is still in the mormon scriptures. they still believe adam is god. D&C 27.11 And also with Michael, or Adam, the father of all, the prince of all, the ancient of days;
it's very clear joseph smith said michael is adam is the father of all the ancient of days. daniel in the bible called God the ancient of days. christians call God the father. michael=adam=God.
when we go to the celestial kingdom we will become gods. we will have our own planet, and harems. we will procreate and become a god to all our babies. the first man on any planet is a god to all his spirit babies. adam is the first man on this planet and so he is our god.

There are many Gods and many Lords.
You have to understand the order of the gods to understand the Adam god doctrine. There isn't just 1 God over all things. Our Father has a Father and his Father has a Father so on infinitum.
Even the word "eloheim" means "god(s)" plural. Though the eloheim and El were just 3 planets that sat very close to earth in ancient times. The old testament is basically an anthropomorphized mythological account of those planets/eloheim.
One of the saddest things about the majority of christendom is that most of them think that El or Yahweh is our God. It's sad. Our Heavenly Father/God is an exalted man. Not a planet

When it comes to religion, NO ONE has the right to claim authority to describe the true character and identity of God except for what seems to be the silence of God himself. If you really want to know what's true look at arguments from both sides, this is an argument against the church, you should look at what the church actually says about this and then make your judgments.

Where are these quotes coming from. Please sight your sources. It’s a interesting concept, but modern leaders have said the concept of the Adam God Theory is a damnable offense. I have read much of Brigham Young’s works, and I have never stumbled across any quote. Including (if you truly are a scholar and know about Mormons) our temple ordaninces, which we’re on the earth and practiced by members at the time of Brigham Young that directly go against this teaching. Speculation and lying, along with manipulation of facts without stating sources on official documents is the same as saying Martin Luther King Jr., despite doing so many good works, OBVIOUSLY cheated and beat his kids. Trust me, Joseph taught this to Brigham. Brigham is the one that brought it to the church. He taught it in general conferences. Many other leaders believed it and had a testimony if tge doctrine. Not until later have most of the leaders thrown it out. Its sad.
There is plenty of good info on it. Brigham Youngs Doctrine on deity is a great read. Drew Brineys book "Adam god" is another great one. Many many quotes and historical accounts on it are in his book. It is a great and grand doctrine to learn by the spirit. If you do the hardest thing that will happen for you is that you will learn that even prophets and apostles are just men like all other men. If they think they know more than the spirit than why would the spirit teach these concepts to them. You have to want the pure, simple and naked truth on any matter to learn the truth of all things. Instead, people stick to their traditions.

Brigham did not actually teach the Adam God doctrine, a simple understanding of the discourse allows us to know. In fact it was known that his words would be construed that's why the discourses are not considered doctrine themselves but rather many of the principles within them testify of truth.

Adam God theory is not found in the scriptures, it is rejected by the church, Brigham Young never said that he received a revelation on this subject. Some people are troubled over some of the statements of Paul regarding women as well as marriage -- but most have just moved on.

As an ex-mormon, i suggest you analyse your scriptures closely. I am not an “enemy” of the church nor do i despise it, in some sense i remember it fondly as a time when things were more innocent, but i cannot bring myself to believe in it. Nobody should just believe without evidence, and i don’t think it’s particularly healthy to teach kids things like this. Scientific and historical evidence disproves the book of mormon/the bible.

There’s a lot of problems with the scriptures. Contradictions, scientific errors, etc. Have you read the old testament in hebrew? I was curious so i decided to investigate the scriptures in the languages they were written in. They helped me make sense of scripture that didn’t seem to fit together beforehand. The earth is described as flat and the firmament is clearly meant to be a solid dome. In the new testament the events surrounding jesus’s death change from gospel to gospel, etc. I could go on.

cdowis I actually have been studying quantum mechanics actually, funny you say that. I love physics, i’m interested in general relativity too and have been studying it as well. Nothing i’ve seen indicates anything to do with a god. So i’m not sure what you’re talking about. It’s a theory about the non-deterministic nature of particle physics, how the wave function gives the probability amplitude for a particles position, and leads to questions about the nature of reality itself (particles being in multiple places at once, the measurement problem, etc). It allows physicists to accurately describe atomic phenomena.
“Normal” Quantum Mechanics uses formalisms like Schrodinger’s wave mechanics (where the wave function is solved for using the schrodinger equation) or matrix mechanics (which in all honesty i can’t say i know too much of).
They’re really just approximations though, as the schrodinger equation is not made for particles traveling at relativistic speeds. For that you need something like the dirac equation. And further from that there’s quantum field theory which for now mostly goes over my head.
Now that i’ve described what Quantum Mechanics actually is, i still don’t see what it has to do with a god. I’d say i know more about relativity than QM but this still suffices and is an active area of learning for me.
To many Critics (I not mormon) I see a lot of Christian hypocrisy. Because most of our denominations were formed with men that had diferentes ideas and came from diferentes religous backgrounds on the 18 century. Adam was made from the dust of the ground and given the breath of life from God. Every human being since that time shares the same characteristics. Are you aware that Brigham Young taught this for 25 years? Also it was part of what they called a lecture at the veil in the St Goerge temple until 1904.
Brother Brigham taught this! He also endorsed the "Journal of Discourses". Brigham stated that he was a prophet and that what came out of his mouth should be considered scripture. You can read about his men on the Moon and Sun in the JOD. The problem for you is that since you believe in many Gods, and you may even become one. You believe in Polytheism. (More than one God). While all other Christian churches believe in One God. this is called Monotheism. This is why no other Christian church recognizes mormons as Christians. Besides the Polygamy this is another big nail in the coffin of mormonism.

Brigham Young was just giving insights into the eternal and devine natures in all of us. We are after all, children of God and therefore eternal and devine in nature (or at least potentially so.) Our mortal lives here on earth, are but a brief moment away from our Eternal Father in Heaven and our eternal home.
Who can say then, what are pre-existence was like before this life? Who can say who found favor with the Father before he was born?
Certainly Adam and Eve must have been very special indeed to have been chosen to bear the mortal bodies of all mankind?

This concept is not without some biblical support or interpretation. The statements of Brigham Young are all taken out of context and without regard to the "when or why" they were made. The 21st Century LDS Church, correctly labels them as "the teachings of Brigham Young" and not revelations. The same applies for many of the words of Joseph Smith.

One sister stated that when the subject of Joseph Smith using a peepstone in a hat was bought up Oakes informed the missionaries that it was "anti Mormon lies ". Fast forward years later and his words come back to smack him on the backside. Irrefutable proof had the church cornered into admitting the peepstone story to be true.

So let me get this straight, if a prophet dies it is indicating that he was a false prophet. Considering every single one of the biblical prophets are now dead, were they false?
As you present the theory that Brigham Young posited. Everything seems to be correct except for the fact that Adam is God the Father. The scriptures indicate that the Creator God was the only begotten son of God Who was the intermediary between God the Father and us.
You also seem to, without directly saying it, be assuming that there is only one single God. And God has never said that, nor has anyone else. At least not in Scripture. In fact, absolute fact, in Genesis chapter 1 it talks about the Elohim creating man in their image. Which by definition means that there is more than one God and probably several. The other problem exists in the miscommunication between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. At no time does it absolutely state that Adam of Genesis 2 is the first human male. Other scriptural evidences, although not biblical, indicate that Adam probably existed. However, you must understand that their purpose was to replenish the Earth. And part of Adams job was to watch over the trees. And trees have always been analogous to groups of people. Which exactly explains why when came left and went to nod he found a wife and married her. You also never touch on the difference between the Ha-Adam, and Adam. And there's plenty of evidence that Adam was after the previous incarnations of man. He was the one who was made perfect in body to fulfill the allegory of the fig tree.
I do agree that it is false Doctrine in as much as it might claim that Adam is God the father. Because it clearly states in Scripture that Adam spoke with the power of the only begotten. Which indicates that he may very well have been in previous incarnation of Yeshua, Jesus Christ himself. And his purpose, would have been the first step toward salvation of the other peoples who had already separated themselves from God. A pre Earth, pre scriptural occurrence. Considering we now know that civilizations were around long before the time element of the Old Testament , and for some time. The purpose of Biblical scripture is only what we need to know, not everything there is to know!
You also fail to understand that anytime anybody receives Revelation, whether they be profit or somebody who receives some Revelation that applies to their family, they frequently filter it through the imaginings of things that they already believe they fully understand. So it is entirely possible that those Earthly Concepts may have corrupted some of his understanding of information that he was given. Far too many people misunderstand the true nature of the workings of the organization of the Earth and those that completed it. I'm not saying that I understand it so much more, moreover I may very well understand it because I look at it from a different Paradigm than most others, especially those in the 1800's.
Towards the end of the video you miss the other option. That parts of what Brigham Young had said may very well have been true that Adam maybe was a god. He just wasn't God the Father. He may very well have been one of the Elohim. Which are, Gods. Whether you like it or not. That's what the word Elohim means. And it was difficult for people of the 1800s to separate the concept of God the Father and other gods, either good or bad. But the Elohim are obviously according to the Hebrews a council of Gods in some form or fashion.
The concept that there is only one God is in error. There may very well be a singular God that we answer to. But it depends on how you define God is it the most Supreme Being, which actually Echoes the old saying of the most high God. Which is almost ubiquitous in ancient writings. Or is it there is a singular God that we answer to, and at the Advent of Christ we answer to him through our intermediary Jesus Christ who is a God in his own right. Because he is the literal Son of God the Father! Puts a slightly different spin on it.

@@Mygoalwogel when I say we can trust them, I mean like you trust a friend or a coworker. They are informed studying the same books as us living just like we are, I don't immediately shoot someone down just because they said something wrong, I still trust them however a smart person takes everything with a grain of salt. Also you have to understand why they made their decision. People back then hated the 'mormons' and I won't get into the history right now but if you want to understand why racism was happening within the church you should do your research on what was going on and I'm not just saying look at the immediate time the choice was made, look into church history before and after and you can see how things ended up. The church would have suffered major blows from the people involved at the time if they hadn't. Racism wasn't taught in the church in fact church leaders admitted to the potential of other races however our actions say otherwise due to outside circumstances.

D&C 137:1-5
1 The heavens were opened upon us, and I beheld the celestial kingdom of God, and the glory thereof, whether in the body or out I cannot tell.
2 I saw the transcendent beauty of the gate through which the heirs of that kingdom will enter, which was like unto circling flames of fire;
3 Also the blazing throne of God, whereon ( was seated the Father and the Son.)
4 I saw the beautiful streets of that kingdom, which had the appearance of being paved with gold.
5 I saw Father (Adam ) and Abraham; and my father and my mother; my brother Alvin, that has long since slept;
D&C 27.11 is still in the mormon scriptures. they still believe adam is god. D&C 27.11 And also with Michael, or Adam, the father of all, the prince of all, the ancient of days;
it's very clear joseph smith said michael is adam is the father of all the ancient of days. daniel in the bible called God the ancient of days. christians call God the father. michael=adam=God.
when we go to the celestial kingdom we will become gods. we will have our own planet, and harems. we will procreate and become a god to all our babies. the first man on any planet is a god to all his spirit babies. adam is the first man on this planet and so he is our god.

mormons still believe adam is god, polygamy is neccessary for godhood, you can become a god, blood atonement (blood of righteous jesus does not atone for all sins. some sins the person has to shed his own blood for) book of mormon was translated by the gift and power of a rock in the hat.
by the way, the dedication ceremony at mountain meadows where the mormons opened the ceremony with the song, we thank thee o god for a prophet was really priceless. no need to give the dead bodies of the people you murdered back to their relatives. for the mormons it's "we bagged 'em we keep ''em.
