    Just a note: I think you can have a gap of one between each drill and have the same mining area, since the drills have a drill radius of two blocks (so they each carve out an additional one half block to either side).

    • @SmooreMC85
      @SmooreMC85 11 місяців тому +2

      You can have up to 4 small grid blocks between small grid drills but you may want to slow it down. I usually settle on 3 spaces between each drill.

    If you don't need the stone, you could put filters on and have it toss all the stone out into a pit in the back somewhere, or set up a refinery specifically to smelt the stone to free up space so it runs longer, and you only get useful materials, instead of half stone, half ore.

    • @NotTheBomb
      @NotTheBomb 5 місяців тому +1

      You are almost always going to exclusively get Stone with these.

  • @VirtualHolocaust

    YO! Whats that inertial tensioner do? Is that why its not all like wobbly? i use this to mine i just like do it manually tho. But i always wondered why yours didnt sway is that what the inertial tensioner does? Back when i played early access out pistons exploded generally as well as the hinges.

    • @enshrowd
      @enshrowd 8 місяців тому

      yes by enabling the Inertia Tension or whatever it’s called it’ll stop all that shit from moving around
      i had a large ship welder going on with like 8 pistons going sideways with a massive amount of welders at the end and that shit was drooping more than me after post nut clarity
      i turned on the inertia tension for all of them and it sprung up and leveled out perfectly, no droop anymore

    • @MrSteve_
      @MrSteve_  8 місяців тому

      Hey thank you for your comment, have you made sure to turn on enertia tensioning on for the pistons and rotors? that should stiffen everything up. Also it may be getting stuck on some voxels, preventing it from turning, so check that out.

      This can happen due to a bug, a few things you can try, reloading the save / Make sure you are selecting just the individual pistons, not a group / make sure your in Experimental mode.

      I use inertia tensor on the pistons but not the advanced rotor. I add go from large grid piston to small advanced rotor head to medium conveyor to small grid drill. The out sideways from the small drill three conveyor blocks then repeat drill conveyor etc. i just setup a Derrick with 16 drill radius like this for silver and gold.

    I am new to SE and I have a question, how effective are these quarries?
    Is it worth building it?
    What kind of resourses does it mine out exct.

    • @1KOLYANOS1
      @1KOLYANOS1 3 місяці тому

      I'm not author but have some experience in game.
      They're actually not that effective. To build one as in video you would need lots of resources that are pretty scarce in beginning of the survival on planet.
      So not worth building.
      It mines all resources under the area where pistons descend you can see jt in video.
      What would be more useful is building yourself a base right at the edge of lake and building yourself a hydrogen powered miner ship.
      To build one you could start with rover miner to roll around and find some Rocks on the surface that have ores in them which can be used to build miner ship.
      After building miner ship game will get gradually easier because you'll be able to mine plenty of resources.

    • @StayLazzy_bbbbooiiiiiiii
      @StayLazzy_bbbbooiiiiiiii Місяць тому

      @@1KOLYANOS1you are absolutely correct unless what you want is the stone because as a byproduct you can get iron which is very needed for me because I need a stupid amount (54000) to build a space elevator and than I will need more to build the countless structures and ships and all the stuff I want just the stone will provide for close to all of that

    • @1KOLYANOS1
      @1KOLYANOS1 Місяць тому

      @@StayLazzy_bbbbooiiiiiiii refining stone for iron and other resources as main source is inefficient, better find actual ores. As been said you just build miner ship, attach an ore scanner to it and find yourself nearby ore deposits, two-three trips to them and back will get you plenty of resources for a substantial amount of time.
      Space elevator? It's build able only if your planets are customly downscaled. All the other times you won't reach 0G, game has limits in itself for structure sizes.

    • @Chris-fn4df
      @Chris-fn4df Місяць тому

      @@1KOLYANOS1 Inefficient? It is a task that you can completely automate while you go mine for something you actually have to find. Automate a few quarries, set some drones to automatically ferry the stone back to a refinery. Meanwhile I'm on the hunt for hard to find stuff, or welding up a new build, or exploring, or doing literally anything other than picking at rocks. It is passive income and that is EXTREMELY efficient.

    • @MrSteve_
      @MrSteve_  Рік тому +1

      Do you mean to extend the reach, after the initial plunge? you can place a mag plate on the side of a drill that’s next to voxel, place a couple of armour blocks coming out the voxel for the mag plate to lock onto. detach the drills from pistons, then retract the pistons, add additional pistons then place a hinge on end of pistons and a hinge part on drills and attach them.

  • @Septagramable
    @Septagramable 9 місяців тому

    Why does one of the pistons go up?

    • @MrSteve_
      @MrSteve_  9 місяців тому

      It gives you more space to place the other pistons, and also can be used for a final plunge when the main pistons are fully extended.
