Only thing I could add would be to stress that you have the cargo hold to be monitored be the closest cargo hold to the drills. Maybe even a sorter to only allow ore out of the cargo hold to prevent it from being backfilled by anything not the ore being mined.
Hey, thanks for the comments. I have to say I 100% agree with you. I don't show it in this video, but I have an overflow protection system on 90% of my drill systems that I build.
If you build a connector to a container then build a small grid drilling rig plunge miner you can build it basically off your starting ship and be drilling right off the bat
A trick I found was that if you take 2 drills and a hinge. Put the hinge at 25degrees and velocity of the pistons at .05. When fully extended move the hinge go 45 degrees. More with less! Love the event controllers. They've been nothing but headaches for me. That and sorters allowing black listed things through because SE1 is still in beta
Might be cool to attach an advanced rotor and piston facing horizontally at the top, so you can set the drill to farm horizontally in multiple directions and get more resources before you need to modify the rig
Materials won't transfer from the drill to my cargo box? Do I need the connector between the drill and the piston. Also when I place wind turbines they don't spin but my drill still works... somethings broken lol
If materials are not transferring between your drill and cargo. it means that either you are ore bound (your cargo is full and won't take anything else) or you have a break in your conveyor system. As of the wind turbines, if it is your only power block on the grid it could just be a graphical issue. If it's not something else is powering your drill.
Same problem but also getting multiple unsafe grid errors. I can operate and work it just like all these videos, but I've only gotten the material to transfer only one time 😕 can't figure out why it won't transfer (yes doing just exactly like these videos) but every time I have to pull my drill and transfer everything by hand, then go back down again. Better than hand mining but not getting transfer automatically is really irritating.
You probably figured it out by now, but I was having the same problem then found out that my piston wasn't fully welded up and there was no connector going onto the drill. It was weird, it said it was 100% welded, but there was still a tiny piece at the bottom
You may need to reverse the piston. if the piston is moving in the right direction, check power and make sure it is on. If it is on and in reverse and still not reversing, check the inventory of the drills. They may have filled up.
Absolutely! Just make sure you group your pistons and assign a button for extension, a button for retraction, one button that turns the pistons on or off, and one for the drills to turn on or off.

@KiltedBastard That might be a pretty useful thing to show on how to set up, might help a lot more people with other projects

I have actually done this, it can be a pain in the butt but it beats hand mining.

thank you i have been having trouble with event controller and timers trying to learn how to set them up
Thank you for this help. 😊
Glad to be of help.

Now you're thinking like a space engineer!
Ok, so built the same thing, but when I float over to the cargo box, I can't withdraw my stone😮
I think I built this one with a sorter, so it is possible your sorter isn't allowing for stone or ore to pass through.
😊
Glad you enjoyed the video

oh thanks for the video my dude. SUBBED!
Glad you liked it!
Why won’t my drill reverse?
You may need to reverse the piston. if the piston is moving in the right direction, check power and make sure it is on. If it is on and in reverse and still not reversing, check the inventory of the drills. They may have filled up.
Can i add a button panel for easier control of the up and down and stop and such>?
Absolutely! Just make sure you group your pistons and assign a button for extension, a button for retraction, one button that turns the pistons on or off, and one for the drills to turn on or off.
