this so much! like a healthy balanced lunch would not be pasta sauce and pasta. youd have to have vegetables and a protein source like meat, tofu or whatnot on the side.
Yes and it sounded like she wasn't hungry anymore, eating isn't supposed to stuff you, that's why snacking can be okay because you're not overdoing it in one sitting
The reason the portions are so small is because you’re meant to eat those things with other things to make a balanced meal. All of those foods were just carbs.
Problem is that its a complex balance of what your body needs and what different foods translate to. It's not something you can just put a portion size on considering people have different bodily requirements. Its not exactly a one size fits all.
I know that for some people this diet is different but I love her vibes, she seems to have a really healthy relationship with food. She’s not driving herself crazing trying to hit macros or to stay under a calorie limit, she is listening to her body :). Her relationship with food is what I aspire to have, love you all
I wish I could be like her in that sense. But I'm type 2 diabetic. So restrictions are my life... It sucks. Take care of yourselves everyone. This is not something I'd wish on anyone. Not even my enemy.
Omg yes, I ate 500-300 kcal for four months guess what? I hate myself right now :) (not like I just binged cuz I'm so stressed about eating for weeks) just end me-
I think the reason the suggested sizes seem so small to you (which, granted, they are kinda small) is because you’re supposed to have a variety of foods at each meal. So, like, instead of eating just a plate of pasta and sauce, you would eat the serving size of pasta and some cooked veggies or something like that. Great video, these are informative and super entertaining to watch!
Yeah agreed I tend to have just pasta and sauce and a bit of sweetcorn thrown in, and I was shocked by the recommended portion one time as it's unlike me to eat a lot more But then I made it at uni one time, and my friend came in and was like what else you having? Pasta is like a side dish. And I was like huh? That's my whole dinner 😅
Yes! You'll be much fuller if you have your pizza AND say, a salad and a bit of fruit. If you're counting calories or tracking macros for a specific diet, the serving size can be super helpful. Otherwise....? I only actually bother looking at serving sizes for junkfood and snacks (because I WILL eat the whole packet of Oreos if I don't pay attention).
i think the recommended serving sizes are when paired with something, like for example some chicken with rice..that’s why the portion sizes seem so small to you
I saw somewhere that for example in pasta, you follow the serving size if you also put chicken or meat AND veggies with it, but when i was in Italy and i ate pasta in a restaurant i ate it ALONE with sauce and they totally don’t follow the serving sizes lmao
I live in Italy and that's not 100% true unless you only visited tourist areas. Everywhere you go when eating out has their menu set up in courses. Theres supposed to be a pasta, meat, appetizer, etc. They definitely don't do serving sizes, but the servings are typically smaller than what Americans are used to. Also, people usually spend hours out eating when we do go out, so we eat each course and pair each course with a different wine as well.
also, junk food she showed in the beginning is filled with so much shit and glucose-fructse syroup, you're not supposed to eat more than just a bit to keep your body healthy-ish. Also, calories.
The reason why it’s so extreme for her is because she doesn’t eat a balanced meal. You can’t just eat 1 serving of pasta with sauce and expect to be full. You need protein and veggies to keep yourself full so you don’t have to eat the whole thing of pasta.
@@Poudang I’m 23 and we were taught good nutrition, 5 a day, balanced diet and how to cook proper meals/make bread/puddings, all sorts throughout school from a young age! I’m very thankful for that!☺️
I highly doubt she's eating Doritos and M&Ms on the daily. And if she is, she probably leads an active life style, but I just think she doesn't eat as much as she thinks or she gets full fast.
@lain iwakura you’re definitely right, sometimes its annoying when people dread you or is jealous of your ‘cause you “metabolism” is faster, well bitch I eat properly and I exercise that’s why.
If you eat constantly your matabolism will increase. If you eat less or starve yourself sometimes then your metabolism will become slower because your body thinks food is scarce.
One reason the serving size is so small on many things is that they're not required to list values of less than a gram on the nutritional facts, so they reduce the serving size until there is less than a gram per serving of stuff they don't want to admit is in there. That's why they can claim that cooking spray is fat free, despite just being oil in a spray can, and thus pure fat.
Another problem with the "1 serving" thing is that she just ate the pasta by itself. I don't think you're intended to just eat a plate of pasta and hope to be full because in restaurants you get "1 serving" of meat and vegetable too. So if she did 1 serving of what should be a balanced meal with meat and vegetables then she might see its actually quite a lot. But some people do base an entire dish around 1 item like just pasta and sauce so thats why it feels tiny xD
Yess... I feeell the samee😂but I am quiet fit and I look fine and I eat wayyyyy more than that.... Those serving suggestions are not based on real life
The serving size recommendation assumes you'll be eating other things with that item. At the end of the day, portion size isn't the main issue. More important is overall calories (particularly in a week) and nutritional balance.
I understand what you're saying but my take is a little less cynical. A serving size merely splits the product up into measurable quantities so you know the information about it. I agree that they seem small and there is definitely some marketing going on ("80 calories per serving!"), but really it's just a way to quantify nutritional information so it can be easily displayed.
@@kaig3405 actually 2,000 calories is a lot if you're actually eating healthy. But most the food we consume is super unhealthy and has a ton more calories

I feel like they make the servings so small so that when you glance at nutrition facts while grocery shopping, you'll think it's lower calorie/carb/whatever than it really is
That is not why. It’s what the USDA recommends for healthy eating and it’s based off the food pyramid. Essentially you don’t have to eat the portion size but you should follow the pyramid that will tell you how many servings you can have in one day. It is not so they can make it look healthier for you.
Yes a lot of brands do that so they can say “only 2 calories per serve” or something like that, I always look at the “per 100 grams” column in the nutritional information because of that
Ok but if you're a kid then you're eating more because you're still growing. My mom was always convinced we never needed seconds. You being anywhere in your teens definitely need to keep up your energy. And reading other comments here are a couple other good points. 1serving size is a way to divide the package into easier to manage "recommended" portions, 2 you'll want to add a serving of meat and a serving of veggies to the plate of pasta 3, you need to eat multiple servings from each food group through the day so you can have your child size noodles and your sandwich too
From your name you are Asian. I watching Asian dramas nowadays and those actresses are very tiny and slim. In Asian culture fat shaming is happening often as I see.
I have rewatched this video like 100 times and I think with the pasta one it's referring to if you have it with a full meal. Like with meat and vegetables. Because that size would be normal for me for dinner.
The trick is that these are serving sizes for each food: I don’t just eat only a bag of chips/crisps for LUNCH. I’ll have chips and a sandwich or soup or something. But yeah: the serving sizes looks ‘small’ because your whole meal should consist of lots of different things; fats and proteins and veggies, ideally.
It takes about 15 minutes for your brain to realize that there is food being put into the body, meaning that if you eat the smaller portions a lot slower you’ll feel fuller at the end. I always eat way to much because I eat really fast, but I have learned that slowing down really helps feeling full and eating smaller portions
The way you wrote it sounds like a meme. I don't even think that you have an eating disorder. I am a recovering anorexic and you using my illness to be edgy is just disgusting.
@@olgak.9407 i'm recovering from bulimia, but thanks. I'm not being "edgy" or trying to be cool and i'm not trying to "use your illness" because I'm BULIMIC. Well, the quality of the content feels like being made by a 10 year old. This video is so pointless, it almost hurts. What is the point of tiny portions if all she does is switching over to a different type of food to serve another portion of?
I'm noticing a lot of people with eating disorders in the comments. Hope y'all are getting help and recovering because eating disorders in any way shape or form are nasty things and you deserve better
The reason the serving sizes are so small is because it makes the food look healthier for example if the rec serving size is 1/6 of the cake and the amount of kcal is 135 than the average amount someone would eat (1/4) would have 202.5 kcal which is a decent amount more
Nadine Belle well I usually eat it with like a bit of salad and chicken. But I snack a lot. Edit: I realize that I only eat Mac and cheese as a side during Ramadan. Usually I only eat Mac and cheese. (Still only 1/4)
@@seigeengine And are you eating actual *actual* pizza straight from Italy made in a stone oven? Gatekeeping is ridiculous enough but gatekeeping what will be digested in *her* sytem is like another level.
As someone who actually studies nutrition the “recommended” portion is what equals to a serving of food you are not supposed to have one serving of every food it depends on what meal you are eating and what food category you are having
And what you’re having with it for example a serving suggestion of chips (fries) depends on what other foods you’re having with it like vegetables and meats
@@amwhik You know how the food pyramid says "5-7 servings of fruits and veggies" or "2 servings of protein"? That's per day. So basically per meal you're eating 5-6 "servings". (Which seems to be the amount of pasta she would normally eat, for example.)
The serving sizes are based on recommended daily intake of nutrients. Like sodium, sugars, carbs, calories. So it’s not saying that’s exactly how much you should eat, per say, but it’s pretty much saying “if you eat a quarter cup of this cereal, you’re getting this many calories, this much sugar…” so you can have more, but if you’re paying attention to that stuff you can count it all up
When you're calorie counting it makes it easy to eat the recommended serving sizes because it's the quickest to track. I'll eat 1 or 2 "servings" of whatever so it's easier to input into my fitness pal.
These portion sizes are what I eat...it’s helped a lot with my weight since I’m sadly not blessed with a high metabolism. Edit: I bought small plates and cups so I could trick my brain, making it easier to follow the portion sizes.
It is actually just to let the calories look less, because they write 1 portion has for example 100 calories but they mean 30g and not what a normal person would eat :)
Nope. In the UK with the servings it’s based on a system of a “perfect diet” with the right amount of calories and balance of everything per portion for health, it doesn’t work great though
Yeah, I mean if we put the pasta into a meal it would be: t/w: Eating disorders 125g Sauce 156 cal 75g Pasta 267 cal 2 Chipolata sausages 114 cal 80g Mixed veg 45 cal 25g Grated mozarella 74 cal TOTAL: 656 cal
I kinda eat like that but it ends up not being so little food because you can have more stuff, for example at lunch I would eat that amount of pasta or even less to be honest buuuuut with some vegetables and some fish or meet and then fruit, so yeah it fills you pretty good. The "recomended serving suggestion" is not for the whole meal, is just for each item in particular. Love you Taz!!
This is exactly what I was thinking, I eat that much pasta but with vegetables and some form of protein. I'd eat more pasta if I was having just the pasta. The reason those jars of sauce have such small serving suggestions is because they're filled with loads of extra salt and sugar, if you make it yourself you don't need to worry about how much you're eating. I probably do only eat the recommended serving size of junk food without thinking but I would eat as much as I wanted of fruit, vegetables, healthier snacks etc
My guess is she eats straight from the container and imagines she eats it all, but instead eats a few bites and then stops; alternatively, she eats most of it, but then doesn't touch it again for days.
Darrell Jones I live in the us too and yeah I’m sure it’s just as cheap in most places, but to spend ~$3 on just that every day, as well as all the other things she says she eats the whole container of in the video is just weird to me lol. If you buy in bulk it might be achievable for a reasonable price but she bought normal or small containers of everything, so it would add up fast
When I was in elementary school and middle school my dad used to help my brother rand I make our lunches. He didn’t care how much fruits, veggies, proteins, or other “healthy” food we took. However, when it got to chips, candy, popcorn, and other “unhealthy” foods he would measure by serving size. Looking at it now it really was a child size, now I just kinda eat when I’m hungry and not by recommended portion size.
For some people with eating disorders it can be very difficult to eat more than the suggested serving size or be made to feel that they are having 'too much'. I know some people for who essentially it was the start of their ED developing where they wouldn't let themselves have more than that because they thought "surely that was right and to have more would be greedy" and then just became more restrictive from there. I get if it's something you've never experienced it would be hard to see how it could possible have a negative effect but believe me it may for some people :)
these videos actually help in my eating disorder recovery, its so nice to watch someone talk and see in the comments about how ridiculous serving sizes actually are
Same. When she poured out the portion of pasta and said "this is how much I would usually eat" I was shook. I eat a 500g pack of dried pasta on my own.
The recommendations actually look healthy to me, considering you should only have a hand full of sweets and another healthy snack along with three main meals per day
They might be healthy to a very specific group of people, because nutritional intake should be personalized to your needs and goals. A bigger human usually needs more food than a smaller one, a more active person should probably eat more than a less active one. These portions definitely wouldn't be good for everyone.
I didn't even think about how it would trigger me until she said something. So now I just have the video paused and I'm wondering what to do with myself...
Taz, Can u try to do an Alphabet challenge or Vowel challenge like for a day only eat foods that start with A, the other day B...Or because that may be too long, The Vowel A,E,I,O,U?
Good idea maybe she can eat the entire alphabet in a day? All the ingredients she uses need to be following the letters of the alphabet? Apple with bread and cinnamon, etc
That would be cool. Or what if she looked up four letter words. Each Letter would be one food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack or dessert. So each day it would be different
As someone from Indiana (the corn state) who moved to Austria, I was shocked they put corn on pizza...but now I’m bringing that back with me.......but ketchup on pizza is a disgrace

I like the idea of serving sizes to make sure you eat a variety of foods throughout the day. Your breakfast was a good example - toast, beans, hummus and carrots make a good balance. For households with fewer people, freezing leftovers is a good option
@Mushroom Mark u have a point, but not everyone knows what happens behind the kitchen unless u work there. Try to be more open-minded and instead of insulting others for their lack of knowledge educate them in a manner where no-one will feel less of them selves for not knowing.

It takes about 15 minutes for your brain to realize that there is food being put into the body, meaning that if you eat the smaller portions a lot slower you’ll feel fuller at the end. The reason the serving sizes are so small is because it makes the food look healthier for example if the rec serving size is 1/6 of the cake and the amount of kcal is 135 than the average amount someone would eat (1/4) would have 202.5 kcal which is a decent amount more

Ever heard of punctuation?
Can you elaborate on that?
@@amwhik You know how the food pyramid says "5-7 servings of fruits and veggies" or "2 servings of protein"? That's per day.
So basically per meal you're eating 5-6 "servings". (Which seems to be the amount of pasta she would normally eat, for example.)
But the issue is that nowhere is it said how many serving of food makes a meal. Is it 2, 3, 5, 10 ?
The serving sizes are based on recommended daily intake of nutrients. Like sodium, sugars, carbs, calories. So it’s not saying that’s exactly how much you should eat, per say, but it’s pretty much saying “if you eat a quarter cup of this cereal, you’re getting this many calories, this much sugar…” so you can have more, but if you’re paying attention to that stuff you can count it all up
Finally. I was going to say the same.
When you're calorie counting it makes it easy to eat the recommended serving sizes because it's the quickest to track. I'll eat 1 or 2 "servings" of whatever so it's easier to input into my fitness pal.
Meanwhile my ass is over here logging like 1 5/8 of a serving or something complicated like that into my fitness pal 😂
Pasta is always 2 servings. Who eats 2 oz of pasta!?!?
These portion sizes are what I eat...it’s helped a lot with my weight since I’m sadly not blessed with a high metabolism.
Edit: I bought small plates and cups so I could trick my brain, making it easier to follow the portion sizes.
Peachy Cream YES! I think instead of counting things which is bad for my personal anxiety lol I’ll just buy small plates! I love this trick!

I was caught so off guard when she said she’d normally eat all the hummus for a snack like how much money is she spending on food omg
My guess is she eats straight from the container and imagines she eats it all, but instead eats a few bites and then stops; alternatively, she eats most of it, but then doesn't touch it again for days.
Well let's be honest, she's buying hummus. She's probably a little on the rich side.
Mark West humus is extremely low cost in the us is it expensive elsewhere?
I live in the UK and it's fairly cheap here
Darrell Jones I live in the us too and yeah I’m sure it’s just as cheap in most places, but to spend ~$3 on just that every day, as well as all the other things she says she eats the whole container of in the video is just weird to me lol. If you buy in bulk it might be achievable for a reasonable price but she bought normal or small containers of everything, so it would add up fast

Camp Rockness idk maybe former anorexic people or ppl with eating disorders or sumn

The serving sizes in many cases have been shrunk to permit companies to "lower salt and fat" without dramatically changing their systems.
I was just thinking this..It's a way of misleading the consumer into thinking it's less caloric or full of sugar.
Also makes the calories per "serving" seem reasonable.
If companies didn't put so many empty calories in food, the serving would definitely be bigger. Much much bigger
