I was born in '75 missed a lot of good stuff, but listening to this and other Allman Brother's my parents had on vinyl, mixed in with some stuff like Roy Buchanan, was my musical awakening, and what an awakening it was.
While we're talking about Iive albums and fantastic guitars, Roy Buchanan!!!! If you haven't heard it, check out his Livestock album. Also his Austin concert you can find on You Tube.
This is now DNA...I have worn out two copies of LAFE and now have the 6 disc CD set, The Brothers invented this music , there will be nobody better.......EVER.
my brother took me to my first concert when I was in 10th grade at the Spectrum in Philly, It was Redbone, The Allman Brothers with Duane, and Johnny Winter And. My first rock concert, first smell of pot!! Never forgot it!! It doesn't get much better than the Allmans
sstoys2 I was there! Redbone couldn't hold a candle to the ABB and Johnny Winter, as great as he was, hardly soloed at all! Gave most of the solos to Rick Derringer who I think was producing Johnny's next album. ABB=high point of the night.
Reading these comments looks like a lot of us are from Philly and veterans of Spectrum and Tower Theater concerts although I guess i am a little younger and did not see my first concert until 74 or 75 Uriah Heep,Blue Oyster Cult Atlanta Rhythm Section as my first concert a dance concert as they called them at the Spectrum
I know you are the happiest man seeing Duane and Berry again Gregg but we are at a loss. You will be beyond missed.... so along with Butch I know all of you are jamming together again. Thank You for the undying talent.
some vuGood (GREAT) shit flowed out of MACON Georgia,Otis, little Richard.Percy Sledge, and the Best of All ,The Allman Brothers followed by the Rest of the Best that recorded in Muscle Shoals,Miami,Doraville,we were truly blessed to grow up with it
If you really listen one of the greatest live recordings of all time. So unbelievably tight. Duane was at his pinnacle as was the band this night. So many intricacies and then just great butt shaking music. The whole band shined here led by the master - Duane.
I was born in '81 but seen the brothers 3 times with my pops who just passed away. I can't listen to them n not think of him. Been listening to them since I was a kid. Seen them at jones beach n the beacon theatre twice. Wish I could of seen Duane. R.i.p to them both.
I love this Live Concert since 43 years ...and this Band of All Men and Brothers... Incredible ....The Dead reaches sometimes this level ....but the ABB flies too high for all... greetings from a krautrocker...
I remember this concert way back in '71, I was just a kid, 19 years old, came in from eastern Canada stoned on Sunshine but really was blown away from the Band loved them ever since. so now I listen to their licks every chance I can because this is real music
When they played the submarine base in Ct., outdoors and raining, I maneuvered to the front row and as Warren was scorching a solo I was fixated on Greg off to the side at the keyboards. Our eyes locked. I smiled and gave him a huge thumbs up. He smiled back !!! Still the best double live album ever recorded imho. This particular composition will always blow me away. I literally wore that vinyl out. Best white blues voice ive ever heard. Greg is now with his LORD and Savior :-)
This is True and Original JAM music. Beats any "jam" claimed bands and music we hear today on non-commercial radio. They all evolved from this. Period. This is the best.
What so many fail to grasp is, he was only 24. Peter Green and Jimi and Rory are close but no one had a tone like that, he is the greatest guitar player there ever was. that ending at 2:51 I have heard countless times over decades and it still makes me laugh and sob at the same time and 6:58 always, all day. One of the few songs I'd try hard to copy with my Les Paul and younger days cranked all up on 10. I've read and heard so many debates about who plays what. If you get a quad turntable and surround sound amp, the speakers are correct and show you which guitar is what. But, just listen to the tone and you can't miss Skydog in this, he takes off and just soars in this performance.
Such a tight tight Band..............................saw them 2 months before the Fillmore Show in Memphis......Live at Overton Park Shell on a cool Spring nite, outside venue..It was pure Heaven.....They cooked until about 3:00 a.m...
Allman Brothers have more and more fans every day...How I know? I m looking reaction on they s songs on TUBE...so many young people both colors ,better say all colors are shocked with outstanding music artists.
One of best southern rock-roll shows ive ever seen off thanks you so much for your time mr.Trucks and Mr Allman for an off the scale show at the shore line Amphitheater i believe 97!lord god rest your souls-thankyou much love for ever !FROGGER a.k.a Derek Bullene
Now available as a 6-CD expanded set with booklet. Includes the original set put a couple other shows from that week, plus the band's set that closed the Fillmore on its final night. This was great stuff when it came out and it's still one of the very best ever.
I agree. Frampton Comes Alive is bubblegum when compared to this. This is electric blues cranked through Marshalls within a Rock format but played with a jazz sensibility. Absolutely Brilliant! All due respect to Frampton, but I imagine if he was being honest Peter would agree as well.
I'm with you, I've listened to them for forty years as well, am still awestruck by all of the music. But something that continually astounds me is how Dickey is so often compared to Duane. I doubt whether Duane would want that, it was about the music not who was a better musician. Dickey is a good guitarist, great songwriter and responsible for getting them back on their feet after Duane and Berry passed. But Duane is streets ahead in his playing! His solos drive this album& the band responds!
I was always curious why they were all smiles and crackn up on this famous album cover photograph. I had a copy of it in the day and drove my mother nuts playing it.
the way greg remembers it duane got up raced to his dealer out of shot of the camera and got a 8 ball of coke went back to his seat in time to take the picture. Then all got high!!!!!!
Yeah there is a clip of Butch trucks talking about the story behind the photo here on UA-cam. They weren't getting along to well with the photographer doing the photos, the guy was being a real ass to them and wouldn't let them get up or hardly move from their spots for the photo's at all, so at one point when the photographer wasn't paying attention Duane runs over to his dealers car that had pulled up and grabbed the goods and ran to set back down but the camera man caught him and was yelling at him for getting up and to sit down. If you see Duane is kinda holding/ hiding something in his left hand, it would indeed be an 8ball of cocaine the photographer snapped the photo right as Duane ran back into his seat.
Saw the Brothers as my first concert at 13 years old at Philly Spectrum in December 1973. They could even make music sound great in that big tin sardine can.
Anthony Iannozzi was at same show in December 1973. They called it the "Eat A Peach Boogie" was only 16 but loved this band. Also saw them in 1972 right after Berry Oakley died. Same place Spectrum. Miss those days and the original brothers. I'm almost 60 years old but still love this music!!!
Damn, off to college in the Fall of 72, never had heard the brothers, some of my new friends from California, of all places, laid this on me, being a southern boy I had to admit the fact that those old boys knew their shit.
At the very end, after "You don't love me" is FINISHED, the band starts into "Whipping Post". The opening riff is classic and easily recognizable. Now, it may or may not be the W.P. version presented on the album.
Soul Serenade at 17:10 - and Joy to the World at 18:19 - you cant make this shit up - pure genius. This is my top Duane moment other than why does love have to be so sad on Derek and the Dominoes where he overpowers Clapton and shows who the force is behind that album, no disrespect to Eric.
Yes !!! This composition and performance is absolutely genius. An unrivaled contemporary musical jouney always leaves me just amazed and a bit exhausted but that i must return to.
Let this sink in. He was 24 when he died!!..I'm 61, and saw them for the first time at Hofstra here on Long Island, when I was 14. In fact, when the clock struck 12 I turned 15. Duane had just been killed a few months before, and they were touring to promote Eat a Peach..They were still unbelievable. Dicky did an incredible job. They hadn't yet filled Duane's spot, with Chuck Leavell's piano..Dicky was the lone guitar..Berry was still there. Amazing!..Those concerts with them, years ago, were events. They never played less than 3 hours. You were exhausted at the end, but was still wanting more...I'll never forget them. EVER!..Tightest live band hands down.
Additionally, in "The Allman Brothers Band Definitive Collection for Guitar - Volume three," the full sheet-music and tab for Whipping Post shows that it was not a medley, beyond just the fact that the part of the song you are claiming to be Whipping Post doesn't sound like Whipping Post."
There is one bit that could be considered a medley, haha but dont take it too seriously , duane plays joy to the world very nearly to the end of the song
I BUILT A SET OF SPEAKERS IN 1980, 2 FEET BY 4 FEET WITH 1 15INCH WOOFER AND 2 8 INCH MID RANGE AND 1 16 INCH SUPER TWEETER AND 1 3 INCH SUPER TWEETER PER CABINET, CRANKING OUT 100 WATTS PER CHANNEL
The story goes, Duane spotted a drug dealer he knew, jumped up between photos and bought some "stuff, ran back, put it between he legs and sat back down. The rest of the band cracked up, the photo was taken and made the cover.
I don't believe that is correct. This entire song is "You Don't Love Me." The copyrighted sheet music for this song does not show it as a medley. It's one long song.

I always thought that Frampton Comes Alive thing was overrated...he actually made a much better live album with Humble Pie (Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore), which had balls and raw power, unlike his solo work! However, the Allman Brothers Band were the undisputed kings of the Fillmore East, no doubt about it

Greatest album of all time by the greatest band of all time.
No doubt
greatest live album, absolutely.
This really is one of Duane's unsung masterpieces
Not unsung colton....
I know you are the happiest man seeing Duane and Berry again Gregg but we are at a loss. You will be beyond missed.... so along with Butch I know all of you are jamming together again. Thank You for the undying talent.

other worldly.. a notch above anybody else ever recorded live rock n roll. play it loud, spark a doobie n driff off.....
The harmonica is just so perfect on these tracks.
I was born in '81 but seen the brothers 3 times with my pops who just passed away. I can't listen to them n not think of him. Been listening to them since I was a kid. Seen them at jones beach n the beacon theatre twice. Wish I could of seen Duane. R.i.p to them both.
Greatest album ever.
It's right up there. Greatest live album, in my opinion, for sure.
AGREED!!!!!!& AGREED AGAIN!!!!
Said EVERYONE EVER! ❤️👌
I agree. This 🏃♀️ 🏃♀️ is legendary. ❤🎉😊
And greatest album cover ever!
That transition @ 14:13. Following those 2 prior movements how anyone could sit still is beyond my ability to comprehend.
I love this Live Concert since 43 years ...and this Band of All Men and Brothers...
Incredible ....The Dead reaches sometimes this level ....but the ABB flies too high for all...
greetings from a krautrocker...
RIP Gregg... You were an amazing, innovative blues singer! You will be missed by many...
I remember this concert way back in '71, I was just a kid, 19 years old, came in from eastern Canada stoned on Sunshine but really was blown away from the Band loved them ever since. so now I listen to their licks every chance I can because this is real music
The GOAT concert I’m super jealous :)

You are so on bro.
first album i bought, it was a double album if i remember, damn, still kicks ass after 43 years!
The Allmans weren't even the headline act this night. They opened for Johnny Winter. It was a glorious night!

Perfection! I was introduced to the blues by these cats!
Greatest Album ever!😊
around 18 min mark it gets so good always makes me want to cry with joy
And what are the last chords played at 18:19 on the video?! "Joy to the World, the Lord has Come..."-
Excellent!
I agree. Frampton Comes Alive is bubblegum when compared to this. This is electric blues cranked through Marshalls within a Rock format but played with a jazz sensibility. Absolutely Brilliant! All due respect to Frampton, but I imagine if he was being honest Peter would agree as well.
9yrs since someone has made a comment about the greatest band ever…
“Ladies and Gentlemen the great Allman Brothers!!!
Thank you! WTG DUANE!! RIP
one of the best jam bands ever
One of ????

Nah. Duane ALWAYS said Dickey was the better of the 2. There's his famous quote that "I'm the popular one but Dickeys the good one".
I was always curious why they were all smiles and crackn up on this famous
album cover photograph. I had a copy of it in the day and drove my mother nuts
playing it.

Was at that show also in Philly! My second ABB concert!! 59 shows later, and looking for more !!
Meant to say I was at show
un chef d'oeuvre
Duane back at 14,25 to end the song with his solo leading into soul serenade. Game, set match. One of his best 5 minutes live
And Dickey leading into 14:25!
il miglior album live di tutti i tempi

A wikipedia contibruent claims Duane only plays slide on Layla &.
I'm glad you also make him/her stand corrected.
His solo on Why does love... is one of his best.
Love the whole tune, BUT 18:19 Rocks prophetically...
@14:14 If you're not smiling, up and swinging to that smokin southern groove after that long lead in then you are dead musically.
Play all night!!! 🔥🔥🔥
He actually makes the guitar weep.....
Best blues can beat good old days
slow this damn thing down boys you may just set the Fillmore on damn fire with the heat of this fire groove
The song they start playing at the end (after 1/2 second rest) is Whipping Post, another mammoth, long great song.
Thee best Southern Rock n Roll !!!'
I`ve never heard this before, it was really good!!!
Go GOD people people people an nothing like thy Allman Brothers Band
LOVE THIS FUCKING SONG!!!!!
Yes !!! This composition and performance is absolutely genius. An unrivaled contemporary musical jouney always leaves me just amazed and a bit exhausted but that i must return to.
you mean , you don't love me anymore ??
Nobody better than Duane.
Nobody !
Let this sink in. He was 24 when he died!!..I'm 61, and saw them for the first time at Hofstra here on Long Island, when I was 14. In fact, when the clock struck 12 I turned 15. You're right. I didn't listen once the applause started.
The gold standard..
Amen
There is one bit that could be considered a medley, haha but dont take it too seriously , duane plays joy to the world very nearly to the end of the song
Starting@ 17:32 it's clear there will never be another Duane
I BUILT A SET OF SPEAKERS IN 1980, 2 FEET BY 4 FEET WITH 1 15INCH WOOFER AND 2 8 INCH MID RANGE AND 1 16 INCH SUPER TWEETER AND 1 3 INCH SUPER TWEETER PER CABINET, CRANKING OUT 100 WATTS PER CHANNEL
Awesome !!!
No way out with an extra bar thrown in
10:50 Dickey Betts - amazing solo!
Don't forget betts myakka city boy
11:55 Berry Oakley, Duane's third guitar player. And Thom Doucette on harmonica. Duane said they'd planned to add another player, I think it was Thom.
You’re Right :)
Man I'd love to hear Jaimoe talk about his relationship with Duane. I feel like they were probably a lot closer than people realize.
"Would you put your hands together for this?" Abso-fucking-lutely!
The story goes, Duane spotted a drug dealer he knew, jumped up between photos and bought some "stuff, ran back, put it between he legs and sat back down. The rest of the band cracked up, the photo was taken and made the cover.
Than
K you
I don't believe that is correct. This entire song is "You Don't Love Me." The copyrighted sheet music for this song does not show it as a medley. It's one long song.
The first solo is definitely Duane... second one is Dickey Betts... each fantastic in its own way.
Bradentons best another great florida band. Always underrated
duanes guitar actually talks to u!!
and dickies answers!!
You are dead-right on that one. 13 seconds worth. Medley it is.
You don't love me pretty baby
You don't love me yes I know
You don't love me pretty baby
You don't love me yes I know
Well if you leave me pretty baby
Don't you know you're gonna hurt me so
Well I'm gonna tell me mother
I'm gonna talk to my father too
Lord I'm gonna tell my sweet mother
I'm gonna talk to my father too
Well I'm gonna tell everybody
What those young girls will do for you
Lord I'm gonna tell my mother
I'm gonna talk to my father too
Yes I'm gonna tell 'em, my mother
I'm gonna have a word with my father too
Well I'm gonna tell everybody
What those young girls will do for you
Well if I hide pretty baby
If I don't see you know more
Lord if I lie pretty baby
If I never see you no more
Well if you think I'll be your fool, Lord
You better be on your merry way
if I die *
Who could possibly put a thumbs down on this. That is like putting a thumbs down on air and water. Someone needs to get snake punched, for sure.
I voted you thumbs down....just kidding!!! I think that they do that just to be smart ass trolls, it's up to 26 now
Hell yes punch come down south say that shit bad day
Musical taste is all relative and every style isn’t for everyone. Personally I love the Allman Brothers, but I’m sure a Taylor Swift diehard fan wouldn’t understand me downvoting or not liking her music. So, to answer your question, someone that doesn’t like the Allman Brothers downvoted it. 😊
Dickey 11:24 insane tone and skills
Lol,iDROVE TO ISSAC WALTON LEAGUE IN FAIRFAX COUNTY TO LISTENING TO THOSE SPEAKERS, IT TOOK THE POLICE 4 HOURS TO FIND ME
I AGREE 100%
