Funny thing about General Scales being a red herring... That was also going to happen in Dino Planet! I don't know if you'd actually fight him, nor if it would've been with Sabre or Krystal (the story document and the leaked build seem to disagree on those points), but there is a cutscene where Krystal and Scales fall into the desert after the temple they were at loses stability. Krystal lands on water I think. Scales lands on a rock. Guess who kicked the bucket. (hint: it rhymes with whales)
Also, while the puppeteer and true antagonist was definitely not Andross disguised as a Krozoa God, it was actually a Kamerian Dragon named Draknar I think, with his now extinct species being the ancestors of the Dinos, therefore being seen by them as the Dinosaur God... and there's also some twists in terms of how the Krozoa might actually be evil, and that they fought the Kamerians before, and blah blah blah... setting up the Krozoa "Gods" to also being the (truest?) true antagonists, which was definitely an idea carried over to the final product. Draknar would have quite a bit more time to set him up as the villain, a couple more levels to let that sink in, instead of Andross, who you just kinda bump into during the moment when you go fight the "Krozoa", not too long after Scales' "battle".
Oh, and in terms of Krystal's design, originally, she was supposed to be from Sabre's planet as well, with her being from the Vixen tribe, and him being from the Wolfen tribe. So, I'd argue that makes a bit more sense for her old design, instead of the new one, where she's randomly the only one with hair. Yeah, that's pretty much the only issue in my eyes. Rare isn't new to making female characters sexy-looking, so that's honestly a nonsense complaint. The people that complain about that seem to kinda forget about Candy Kong... You can find out more about her backstory by checking out the lore documents for Dinosaur Planet, they're VERY interesting!
In the condensed story, Krystal's showdown with General Scales is described as Scales being in a blind rage who will stop at nothing until Krystal is dead (insert many exclamation marks). The Earth Walker King tries to save her but the temple is crashing around and he can't reach her. So alone, in a "long fought battle" she defeats him.
So while it was a twist, we still would have gotten to fight him.
But yeh Sabre and Krystal are siblings by adoption :D
@@Meggsie yeah, that is true... but then a cutscene inside the newly provided build was found, not too long ago, where Scales and Krystal meet up in the Desert FP Temple. He tries to convince her to give him the SpellStone, she places it on the temple, a blinding flash happens, and then they appear above the oasis on the Golden Plains. While Krystal lands on the water, Scales falls on a rock, on his back, and passes out.
Sooooo... yeah, I think they were already planning on ditching the fight at that point.
Here, see it for youself: ua-cam.com/video/-UJZ2H0Z8dg/v-deo.html
At 1:41:12, that's when it starts.
Then again, there's the chance we still fight him mid-transportation? Maybe that's two cutscenes, instead of just one?
@MotorOil235 I dunno, make the real bad guy seem even more dangerous, ruthless and powerful by comparison? But Scales doesn't even die by his hand, so... I dunno either.
10:16 personally had no idea the combos were even a thing, lol. I just pushed the button a bunch and won nine times out of ten
I don't know if you read the release notes and the comments on the Everdrive forum, but Goemon said that the came is likely to be playable in its full content from start to finish one day, so the good news is that it is a reality, we just have to wait, and after all these years, we finally have a build for the community to work with, so I'm still euphoric and willing to wait for as long as we have to.
A year later, the community has ultimately patched up like 60% of the game with dinomod enhanced. What's left to do is make the much more unfinished later areas, completable. Would be tough considering it's not clear how it would be originally intended. The ending will also need to have liberties taken because it wasn't even completed in the first place, we only have a vague condensed story form of it and various dialogue pieces, the community is kind of thinking on just ending the game after you defeat the Drakor final boss.
Star Fox Adventures was my all time favorite game for a long time and the only thing I didn't like about it was Star Fox. (and I LOVED Star Fox N64) So when I was a kid, I used to pretend Fox was Krystal's little sister and my kid brother who was watching me play would pretend to be another character (depending on what he felt like. Sometimes he was Krystal's little brother and sometimes he just wanted to be Falco haha). I used to photo copy pictures from the manual and cut them out into paper dolls and continue my version of the story out of the game.
Honestly it was my Legend of Zelda because my parents missed that game for whatever reason. I didn't even know it existed past Smash Bros.
My brother and I still sometimes quote the awkward lines to each other ahaha
Edit to add Krystal's back story since, hey why not.
So Wizard King Randorn, Sabre, and Krystal are all from an animal planet. (I forget it if it had a special name). There was a war between the Wolf and Fox tribes. Sabre's older brother is killed in this battle and Randorn disappears. Randorn finds a village of Foxes and kills them all in his grief, except for kiddo Krystal. Randorn sees the error of his ways and adopts Krystal... whose parents he just killed.... in cold blood. Randorn raises Krystal into a teenager out of guilt and then discovers a magical portal to Dinosaur planet. Krystal doesn't want to help them, but Randorn insists- wanting to redeem himself. He goes through the portal, Telling Krystal to find Sabre. There is some description of Sabre not trusting Krystal at first but they are separated pretty much as soon as the game starts so idk how that happened, if it was accidental or purposeful.
Though there's also character sheets for the characters, and it's indicated that Sabre and Krystal's relationship develops romantically.. which I guess works since they never met until they were older, they just happened to be raised by the same guy??? IDK Rareware always had a slightly weird twist on things like this.
If you want to explore more, there's a site called "Rare Thief" where they collect information about Rareware projects. Just add /dinosaur-planet/ to the link if you can't find it on the main site.
5:35 - I don't blame you for liking Adventures. This game was what got me into the Gamecube when I was young after playing it for the first time on my cousin's Gamecube, and despite how people think Krystal doesn't belong I actually love that they put her in the StarFox Universe. But despite the negative aspects that followed about her character(most specifically in Command and other toxic iterations throughout the furry fandom) I actually think she makes a great addition to the story and as part of the StarFox team, and believe she does deserve better treatment to her character. Some people even thought of how she would actually be a good companion to Fox during his time on Sauria as they would work together to save the planet. Bottom line I liked the game myself, but just not Krystal being sidelined as a Damsel in Distress for the Majority of the game.
I think the real reason Miyamoto wanted to make it Starfox is because it would compete with Zelda. If they knew about Rare's plans to sell out by then, its kind of a no brainer
Miyamoto sucks. He’s so out of touch.
@@flyforce16 I know. He literally ruined Star Fox Zero.
This game needs to be on the n64 mini
We won’t get this on mini nor the n64 switch online (which is real officially now) they don’t do unfinished games!
Yeah Star Fox Adventures is still good in it's own right and a lot of good things came out of it, and it's understandable that not everyone was happy with the charges, and it still would have been great to play this game in it's original form and experience the original story that Rare had envisioned and intended at the time, I don't blame Shigeru Miyamoto for this maybe Sabre did had some similarities to that of Fox and from taking a good look at him it seems there were, and it was towards the end of the Nintendo 64's life and towards the beginning the the Nintendo Gamecude's life, and the game did make a good sendoff of Rare time working with Nintendo before the Microsoft buyout even when a lot of devoted Rare fans are not happy about it even to this day, and it still ended being a good and decent Zelda like experience at the time of it's release, and it did serve it Ocarina of Time inspiration pretty well, and the story was still good and decent, and you know what they should have keep Drakor as the original true main villain like he he was supposed to in the original Dinosaur Planet version as originally envisioned and intended instead of charging him into a mutant and reducing him to a minor boss, and it was a shame that a lot of good characters had to be cut out like Sabre himself, Randorn, and Kyte they should have keep her she would have made a second sidekick to Fox and it would have been great to have 2 sidekicks along for the adventure and the ride and managing between her and Tricky, and what would have been great and funny for the game and great character development would have that she and Tricky would hate each other at first but over time would end up becoming good friends it's just an idea that I just thought and it would have been a game charger, it was also a shame that Rare had to rush the game a little as a result of the Microsoft buyout as a lot of things in it do seem rushed, I've seen a lot of games that were good games despite what some people say such as Grabbed by the Ghoulies also by Rare and for the original Xbox and through it was a good spooky beat em up Adventure, Tail Concerto from Cyberconnet2 and the the Playstation 1 even though I even played it and did watched a few walkthrough videos and reviews on it and is considered a furry game due to have anthropomorphic cats and dogs and it does have it's flaws but it's still a decent game and it has a good story and good character designs by Nobuteru Yuki and a great soundtrack and not bad for Cyberconnet2's first game, Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex for Nintendo Gamecude, Playstion 2, and the original Xbox it did had mixed results as it was set out to do in succeeding the original trilogy at the time before being retconned by Crash Bandicoot 4 It's about time years later and many felt that was a cheap copy of the first 3 games most notably Crash 3 and had poor vehicle levels and was rushed since it took 12 months meaning a year to complete and it played too safe but some of the levels are still good and it's still a fun and enjoyable game and Traveler's Tales at the time did do their best since Naughty Dog had to part ways with the character of Crash Bandicoot, and there's Crash Twinsanity for the Playstation 2 and the original Xbox the levels were open and were well put together even thought the game could have been given more time of development and some polish but still good and it had a good soundtrack by Spiralmouth and the idea of Crash and Cortex having to team up even though they don't like it was a good idea at the time.
I really liked Star Fox Adventures as a kid, and it coming out when I was pretty young I didn't really care for the major differences between it and Star Fox 64. Sure, maybe I wasn't old enough to understand but years later I still love the game very much. I think its just an unfair assessement for people to hate on the game and not form their own opinions because some big youtuber or community groupthink doesn't allow them to have their own opinion. Its like with the Fallout community, if you like Fallout 3, 76, or 4 you're instantly shunned and not called a 'true fan'. I've always been vocal about having my own thoughts and opinions on things even if I stand alone on them. I love all the Fallout games, 3 was the first one I ever played and I still enjoy it to this day.
I can sort of see it as the same argument with critics on Rotten Tomatos or when watching a movie on a streaming platform that has reviews. I always base my decisions based on viewer score and viewer reviews because those are the people who, like me, are watching it for entertainment, whereas movie critics that are paid criticize things such as costume design or nitpick certain elements of the story and a lot of the time are paid to give a certain review score. I mean, look at IGN with the COD reviews. There is no way some of those games are 9 out of 10's. Its dishonest. Which is why I feel that in order to fully see if a game is good or not is to play it for yourself and not base it on what others tell you to think about it. I have tons of unpopular opinions on games. I love Star Fox adventures, I love Fallout 3, I think Halo 2 is the best Halo, and so on.
I agree that criticism ain't easy and it's a hard pill to swallow, the good thing why they have to move the game to the Nintendo Gamecude at the time was that was too ambitious for the Nintendo 64 with the open non loading areas which was too much for the Nintendo 64 to handle as we all saw in a few videos and as other UA-camrs showed it, come to think of it reminds me of a classic Playstation 2 game that I enjoy playing since my early teens based on the Neopets franchise Neopets the Darkest Faerie from Idol Minds an action adventure game, it did had open non loading areas which was impressive for the Playstation 2, it did had flaws and issues but it was still a good game and it had a good story, good characters, a good villain, and good gameplay, and the music was good, and it was well paced, and I still think positive of that game even to this day.
I blame Miyamoto. He certainly didn’t help
I kind of liked Star Fox Adventures and to me was my first Star Fox Game. With that said, I did sometimes felt that there are still things that I felt were missing call it my gamer instinct. So now that we all know it was originally a Rare project and finally revealed the original concept I now know why I felted that way. One good example is the galleon scene, It always striker me that a cloudrunner on the cage was meant for something but in the end no importance is seen and is forgotten. Turned out originally it has a purpose and it was the cloud runner queen daughter. This is one of things I noticed through out the Star Fox adventures game, that the original n64 confirmed were definitely missing. Still now that I know the story behind Nintendo decision to convert it to a Star fox game is was a thrilling idea. But the only thing that bug me is the many good ideas the original had that then we're lost to this conversion. Also the other thing that strikes me is even though it was Nintendo ideas to merge it Star Fox, instead of keeping consistency and further developing the story and evolving their character they just threw it all away with Zero. This is why I think it should have stayed an original Rare tittle instead of the latter. Who knows what would have evolved
I had beaten the game a few weeks before the build of DP was leaked and it was so awesome, great video and thank you for defending a great albeit flawed adventure game. Also nice touch with the FFXV music midway through... just makes me wanna play it again
Kudos to you for taking the classy high road with Krystal and her design.
Me personally, though, as a kid, I was taking the low road with her straight up. :V
Only as a kid?
@@carso1500 I didn't have a GameCube when I was an infant. I had to start somewhere. :V
It’s truly amazing how now we have this game. If only Mini Munchkin didn’t make them change the thing into Adventures simply because he thought Fox looked like Sabre. That is truly impressive how people are currently fixing this thing so that it will be playable.
There’s this cool fan remake for Adventures that some guy is making. I’m not sure if this is actually real, or just a teaser. If it is real I hope that the guy is able to actually make the thing, and that Nintendo doesn’t stomp it. Trailers:

I really like the atmosphere and theme that Dinosaur Planet/Adventures has. I really like how it’s this weird mix of being alien, and familiar at the same time. If only more people liked the game. Sadly it gets a bad wrap because it’s not truly Star Fox. Kind of like how people didn’t like Prey 2017 because it wasn’t like the original Prey (I really wish we got the original Prey 2). Let’s hope a build for that game gets leaked.
I do hope the game does get worked on to be playable.
A golden opportunity has been given to us by God, best not to waste it.
9:02 Wouldn't have it any other way. xd
I’m not good with emulation and have never emulated before. But I downloaded it on my laptop and tried to play it, didn’t get far but I did it. If you told 12 year old me that I would play dinosaur planet one day I’d be amazed.
I grew up from age 4-5 playing this on GameCube hands down best starfox game
The story behind this game and the lore involved makes this hands down the best starfox game in terms of gameplay even starfox assault felt run and gun,
Adventures is exactly where starfox should have headed.
You’re right , it feels like it should be dinosaur planet not star fox
guys I tested this game in an Everdrive from krikzz v2.5 it is in infinite drop the character right at the beginning. then I recorded it with a programmer on a cartridge when it creates the name right at the beginning it appears several letters and does not come out of it.
None of those bugs shown here appear when playing on real N64. But game does crash when it detects major bug. Those might be intentional crashes for debug, thought...
im confused why are they calling sabre fox mcloud in the leak?
Because the build is dated December 1st, 2000 which is around the time Dinosaur Planet was being converted to Star Fox adventures, however the transition was really small at this point because only a few things were changed to reference Fox, like a single line, and his model.
Are the home brew community working on finishing this game?
you can get far in the Switch N64 Emulator
I am a *huge* fan of Dinosaur Planet and Sabre, and I really am disappointed that fox was shoehorned. And that krystal being a damsel in distress.
StarFox adventures is fine, that's all I'll say. I just wish they would have kept DP separate from Starfox.
