@@cheesesteakphilly I think it is underrated because it isn’t spoken about much therefore it isn’t practiced much on say the heavy bag. For its effectiveness, building up a solid one minute round is not easy but it is doable. Once you get there you can simply build and stack more minute rounds in you training program. A professional three minute round can then be seen and trained as three 1-minute rounds. You can pace yourself way better and once you get going, you’d be surprised how many 1-minute rounds you can casually do.
@@darkNovaskar 25min of interval here, no clowning around - 1min straight w. alternating feet (left, left - right, right), 30secs faster & knees up, 1min straight, 30secs faster on both feet, 1min straight... Ah yes, I turned 49 just today - it's just another friday as usual.
Here are some helpful tips I can share for newbies to skipping. 1: Use a beaded rope when you first start skipping. You'll be able to sense the rope around you better. It's not necessary to buy expensive ropes. A 10-15 dollars rope is just fine. 2: Measure your rope and cut to the proper length. It's easy to do. Just hold on to the handles with one hand and step on rope and measure up to your arm pits or nipple. As you get better, you can shorten your rope. The biggest mistake newbies make is jumping with too long a rope. You'll end up tripping a lot. 3: Point the handles forward, not to the sides, and flick your wrist. This puts your hands in a more natural position and allows for longer jumping with less fatigue. 4:When buying vinyl ropes (aka: licorice ropes), make sure to get between a 4mm, 5mm, or 6mm. They hold their shape better and don't wobble as much. Anything thinner will be difficult to handle. 5: You only need to jump only as high as necessary to clear the rope. Which means an inch or two off the floor or a foot off the floor for double or triple unders. That's it. And jump off your toes and ball of your foot land on your toes. And never jump on concrete unless you have a jumping pad. Wood or cork floors are the best, and your knees will thank you. 6: Relax and have fun with it. It's easy to learn but hard to master.
@@6thSenseGaming I jump on concrete too. Been doing this for several years. So far so good. Make sure you have good shoes and only use the balls of your feet (not heels) and you should be all right.
Jumping less than an inch high, on your toes, wearing rubber soles shoes, is nothing on your knees. Concrete or not. Compare it to running. That's much more impactful.
Easiest tips is just keep doing it. I started when I was 14,got whipped here and there, but most painful one is whip on your face when I try to learn the reverse skipping. I’m 29 now, jumping rope feels like flying,it’s super addictive
Very informative I'm not a boxer I just want to be in a decent shape to live longer for my children but now I know what a really good form looks like and how to achieve it
