Get y'all a dehumidifier...I put one in our basement...you wouldn't believe how much water it collects!! Y'all have a lovely home! ❤✌😀
On it!
They work amazingly well. I've used one for years in our basement and have never had a problem since.
I'd seal under the outside door. With all the rain you guys get you need to keep it out of this room.
Glad to see your response about getting a dehumidifier. Hopefully you have one in the house as well.
Sounds like a good plan Issac.
I agree
Mold happens when the cold outdoor air intersects with the warm air and it condenses. I would seal that space and insulate it so it becomes a conditioned space. Plus a dehumidifier would help.
Got ya
This is the BINGO suggestion. The best (econmically )
Humidifier and wood stove regularly!! ❤!!
Yes, the wood stove will help dry out everything. The air outside is very humid so once you dry out the inside, then make sure the wet air from outside doesn’t come inside.
Got it
Try to keep HEAT & a FAN going in that Area at ALL times.
The dry heat from the wood stove is perfect, but you want to keep that dry heat inside. Crack one or two windows. Do not open all of the windows or any of them all the way. The heat from the wood stove will get rid of the moisture. You only need a cracked window near the wood stove to feed oxygen to the fire through the intake vents.
The wood stove will work wonders, it put off a dry heat if you can’t run it regularly a dehumidifier will pull moisture out
Run the stove at least once a week when it rains.
Good job. Own a home is a never ending journey of discovory. You are putting your stamp on it and it will be great!
Learning as we go!
The cat wrapping is a natural fiber and will mold when an area is exposed to moisture and no heat -that’s why he had a fire place to keep that area warm -we live in a rainy area-so once you keep that area properly insulated and heated , proper ventilation & check for leaks -not too over whelming -you got this bro
💗💗
Looking good..Summer is the best time to work on the property..If you make a bucket list with the projects you will begin to see progress. Listing the projects by most needed first that can help.. love seeing your family working on your dreams.
Def learning everything that needs to be done
@@isaacturnerit Homeowning is most assuredly a "Learn as you go!!" Project! You Can do it, slow n steady Wins!!
You’ll figure this out just like all the other problems you’ve solved, learning as you go. You’ll be fine. I have faith. ✌️❤️🏡
Fosho thanks for watching
I had some old mold in an unfinished attic. I used some spray on mold remover RMR86 Pro that I got at a big box store. It removed the mold and the stain on the bare wood. Kind of pricey but it worked.
My house was built in 1965. I have had to had new dehumdifer in the basement during the warmer months. Be sure to get one that can run in colder temperatures. Try to get one you can put a hose on so it runs to empty outside all the time. The heat and air flow will help with the problem.
I would also be checking that area where water came through the wall.
Hang in there. Seems like it nevers ends but once you get things under control, having a house is like maintenance on a bus. Just something you have to do. Merry Christmas to you all.
Thanks for watching thanks for the tips
Bleach doesn't kill mold. It will clean off what is on the surface but it doesn't kill the bits that have penetrated. Vinegar does kill it. Other things kill it too... that I can't think of at the moment.
Got ya ok
Dont Stress .... Any property in a Moist rainy area will have some mold .... Dry it out and stay on top of it and you will be fine
Ok
Isaac, it's not quite the end of the world with your house.
Your house and property is beautiful and very nice. The problems you're having I know are somewhat overwhelming, but none are catastrophic yet. Just handle them one at a time. Get that back room dried in good (the way it should have been done when originally built) and get a couple good dehumidifiers.
Keep on keeping on my friend.
Your place is definitely worth the work. Just take it in stride and don't let it overwhelm you.
If I lived closer and was not crippled I'd be glad to help you.
One day at a time. Thank you for watching :)
Isaac is it possible that during this time of year, water is running down the hill and sitting under your home? Maybe a special camera, used for drainage and plumbing work, could be used to see if and where this might be happening..divert it up the hill before it gets to your home and run it off into a tank?
Ahhh good ideas
I was wondering if a French drain would help divert the water running down hill to get it away from the house.
@@sandracarter2905 as above
Hi Issac, I hope that helps with your mold issue. The crackling wood just seems so wonderful.
Thanks for watching
You need to run fans in there and keep air flowing, and use white vinegar to clean with. It is non-toxic and is much cheaper and safer. Buy the big jugs and put it in a bug sprayer. It will smell for awhile but you need to spray down that whole area. I had to do this before. It works. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas to you, Jaylena and Ember. 🎄♥️🎁
Def
Your doing gteat. It is a very huge learning curve. You have always done well with your other endeavors as you will with this precious time in your life.
Def figuring things out
Seems most meaningful things in life come with figuring it out. Maybe that's what makes it precious.❤😊
Almost nothing comes easy, but you are tackling problems as you see them and not waiting. You are bringing the same mentality to your property that you had from building buses and that will allow you to handle any issue that may come up.
Ha ha we are learning!
Isaac:
Mold travels quickly because of this issue!
If it was me, I would have kept the school bus no matter what because of what was occurring, and the bus would have allowed my family to be in a safe place away from the issues and tied into the sewer and water systems, while fixing the house.
Now, that both of you have the Van as well as the camper fix both of them up to be livable first requirement.
Then try to get everything out of all of the work you have done now I question if, it is just a cover-up of an entire house full of mold and be better to have a hazardous waste inspector come into check just the house your work on the other things the home is the most important thing at this point.
Again if it was me and I had the bus like your family had I would have still been living in it until the house was all fixed.
Isaac now my main focus would be right, getting temporary living conditions with the Van and the camper and making all content of the video on how to get rid of mold out of my home, once and for all, and music to your followers:
A. Your followers help if they can and they would understand
B. It is going to take the whole UA-cam community from both of your UA-cam channels and just ask for help with project cleanup.
C. Find how much mold is just in the winter time just remember mold does grow more in the environment in which you live.
The whole back area most likely needs to get replaced do wet areas and Winter is going to make it worse unless all of us help in some way.
D. Isaac, I would like to help although due to my medical condition, I am very ill and on hospice care, I am unable to i just hope that my suggestion will help you and not be scared or afraid of asking for help.
Sincerely!
R.S.V.
Respect. Thank you for your tips
I agree on the dehumidifier...Issac you are such a great dad and provider for your family!! You and Jaylena are excellent parents!!
Was looking at prices on them today
I lived in a cinderblock house once and it would condensate really bad in the winter and spring. We heated our house purely by wood stove. It greatly helped dry out the place. Treat your walls just like you would a basement... you need a vapor barrier. The numerous windows are also a plus so you can get fresh air in every now and then. I usually kept a window cracked while I had a fire going. It kept the house not too humid but not too dry. Take care!
Dang!
You live in a damp climate opening a window will only let more humidity in. The dehumidifier will take the moisture out of the room.
Cleaning vinegar kills mold. You can spray the cat tower down with the cleaning vinegar and put it out in the sun to dry. Just a suggestion.
Always love your videos!
Ok on it
Exactly. Bleach doesn't kill mold, it just bleaches the color out of it. White vinegar kills it.
Having just gutting my house from mold I disagree with vinegar. I have been very sick for 6 years from mold. I would get it evaluated. You can buy at home kits. Bleach does not kill mold but high percentage peroxide does. I’d be happy to give you info on tests & where to get the peroxide.
Yes vinegar is way better than bleach with bleach mold will come back not so with vinegar. The most important is to stop the moisture from coming in.
@paulasmith9441 black mold is nothing to mess with. So sorry you had to deal with that for 6 years. Black mold can spread quickly, too.
As many times as Jaylena and you go up the hill, you should invest in a nice yard cart with air up tires. Would be a lot easier to pull up and down the hill. Keep up the good work !
Def should!
Isaac and Jaylena, you two work so hard 🙏❤️❤️❤️
💗💗💗
I used to use chemicals to fight mold and mildew until I found out that half 90% peroxide and half cleaning vinegar in a spray bottle works great. I let it soak for a while before I wipe it off with a rag. It also prevents it from returning. No more harsh chemicals.
Great tip!
I agree that the space needs to be sealed, insulated, and dehumidified. You could definitely see dampness in the closet with shelves.
Yeah def can’t do anything now. But this summer on the priority list
Great video. I could sit and watch your fire for hours. It sounded great with the roaring and cracking . Loved it
Well thank you so much for watching
Isaac please get rid of that cat tree since you sprayed it down with that bleach spray. Cats are extremely sensitive to chemicals. They will get the residue on their paws and hair and lick it off. It’s very toxic and will make them sick. It’s just best to use natural cleaners like vinegar, which is great for removing mold. Bleach only bleaches the mold, it doesn’t kill it or remove it. Plus you’ve had a lot of great suggestions to prevent the moisture and mold buildup.
Owning a home is constant upkeep and expense. Don’t feel defeated. Y’all are doing such an amazing job! It truly is a learn as you go experience. ❤
Ok will do
When you purchased it, it should have been inspected by a home inspection company and they should have found the build on had no permits. Oregon is very strict when it comes to building on property. This is on the reality company and home inspection for nondisclosure. If the wood stove is not properly installed and catches your home on fire your insurance will not cover the loss. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Home ownership is yes a constant upkeep and work in progress but worth it. However when your thrown someone else's disaster its really so unfair.
We did
I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! Check back through your copy of the home inspection. Did the inspector make any mention of anything unpermitted or unknown if permitted? Definitely use vinegar to kill mold. Toss the cat thing all together. Spray down all surfaces. Keep it dry - dehumidifier is a great idea. Killz is also a great idea if it's going to be a while before you're able to properly rehab this section including insulation, remediation of any mold hiding behind the walls / ceiling. Wear a mask too. Once spores go airborne, you can get very sick. But DEFINITELY check what is written in the home inspection. ❤
I applaud you. When you are homeowner especially one that has its problems- getting to the problem asap is key. We had to use a dehumidifier in one of our homes. When warm weather is back you can make that section more weather protected, insulated, roof repair, check mole regrowth. You may have to remove that section of the house, etc. You got this. Before your house repairs are all done get a photo of you & Jaylena rolling that wagon down the hill. Be a great photo display, a great conversation piece with Ember, ‘remember when’. 😉😉 Blessings ❤❤❤
I think a dehumidifier is def prolly the move
Isaac you’re doing a great job, don’t get discouraged it will all work out.
Glad to see you working on your property. This is your most valuable asset…Owning property is equalty builder.. Any thing else consumers buy, depreciates n value..
Fosho I feels
It's so great to read the well wishes and comments everyone gave to help you. We all know it's hard work. To take care of your home.
Just like the bus you built there were problems and you worked on it till you got it done. You will get it done on your home, too. We all are cheering you on. Just stay encouraged. Happy holiday.
💗💗💗
The fire throws dry heat so should dry up any moisture but I am not sure I would open windows because it is letting more moisture in. Keep the fire going . Also I wouldn't have a log on top of a wood burning stove with a fire burning
Dang ok
Invest in a dehumidifier. It will extract the moisture in the air. Get air purifiers ! When addressing the mold bleach water. I had it and I wish you good luck.
On it thank
To clean the cat tower and other things use white vinegar. White vinegar kills mold. Bleach doesn’t kill mold.
I'm sorry you are dealing with this unplanned chore, but I have to say, I loved the crackling wood as it burned! I could listen to that for hours. If you made a long video of just the fire in the wood stove, I'd have it on while doing other things in the home. It's so relaxing.
I thought about making one honestly
I would check to see if you have a leak around the fireplace. Check around the fireplace on the roof. Keep a fan on in that room and a window open a crack.
Def
you need to hang out in there when its pouring rain , just so you can get a good idea of where the water is comin in ...
Good idea
Get a dehumidifier and shut that woodstove door and turn the damper to keep the heat from going up the chimney.
On it
Definitely get a dehumidifier in that room. It will help. Try to get one that you can run the hose out side if possible. That will save you from constantly emptying the container. Isaac, you can spray the mold with Lysol. It is safer. Just don't wipe it off.
On it
Server mold problems this landlord had in a couple rentals. They use a ( buy at a home building by store)spray that kills mold and prevents return. After it soaked alttle, damp rinse ,dried , then painted over. Don't know the name but it works great.
Definitely get a dehumidifier and set it about the middle of the room. Let it run full time in the beginning to get the moisture out, then you can set it to come on automatically as needed. Is that back wall (where all the windows are) below ground level? If so, you might need to clear the dirt away from the wall and seal it with some kind of foundation seal to keep the moisture out. Unfortunately, I would throw that cat tree out since it has mold on it. Not worth treating it and maybe having the mold spread. Good thing you guys noticed the mold early on.
Def getting one!
Isaac, again great video. checked all of your comments and there are some good suggestions. Definitely want to keep it dry in the room and take care of the mold, don't want to beat you down on the chopping block but not a good thing to have on top of the wood stove. From the video there are a couple of issues that I can see. First thing is that room I'm going to guess is on the north side of the house this creates a very moist environment because it doesn't get a lot of sun to dry it out. The other contributing factor you have in that area is the water flow coming down the slope and water coming off the roof if the gutter isn't clean gathers in that area, so this keeps it very wet and humid. Things you could do to help with the moister is get some plastic that you can lay down and create a drainage flow area this will reduce the excess water from standing in that area and keep it from penetrating into the ground. Watch the flow of the water on the next rain, if there is no flow then create a 1 to 2 percent flow away from the house. When you put the plastic down you want to dig a small trench about 3 or 4 inches deep to bury the edges of the plastic to keep water from flowing under the plastic this should help to keep that area dry. Also make sure the side by the house is flowing away from the wall so build it a little higher. This should help through this wet season then you can do something more permanent in the dry season. This would be a fairly cost-effective fix. Home Depot should have rolls of plastic. Hope this helps. God bless your Family. Mike.
Def staying on top of it! Thank you for watching
There should be waterproofing and a proper drainage system behind that retaining wall. Check to see how the water flows behind that room during the next heavy rain event.
Okie doke
Home inspection should of caught most of these problems. Call your homeowners insurance and maybe they will help pay for some of the costs. You pay a premium monthly, use it. Mold didn’t start just because of a hard rain, it’s been there, growing. Owning your own home is none stop maintenance. Also like others have mentioned invest in a large dehumidifier, remove the collection jug and hook a hose up to it and let it run none stop into a drain. I’m in cold country and run a dehumidifier in the summer months and a humidifier in the winter. You can also invest in a floor fan from a tractor supply, they run about $50. Set it on low and let it run continuously to circulate the air. If precious owner burned trash in that wood stove you really need to clean the chimney. Doesn’t look or sound like they did much maintenance on the property
I made it mentioned some stuf. I just didn’t know how serious it was
My dear Isaac, it's not safe to get that fire in the fireplace burning so high & hot. If there is creosote in the chimney or pipes, it could catch fire and possibly get out of control & burn your house down. And never leave a raging fire alone, as it needs attended to, to make sure the stovepipe doesn't catch fire. Stay warm & hope your projects all go well. 😊 ❤
They had them all inspected before they started using the woodstove in the garage...he is on the right path😊
Gotcha thanks for the tip
Isaac, it would be a good idea to get some caulking and go around all of the floor areas that are underground to help prevent rain and/or snow melt from seeping in. I'd also caulk any outside areas at the back of your house where you have stone or concrete that rain runoff from the big hill behind you can get into your house.
Got ya
I really believe you need a dehumidifier. One that can drain out the window so you never have to empty it. We live up by Vancouver Washington and we have moisture in our basement and we added one and it has been tremendously helpful.
I’m def getting one
@@isaacturnerityou can buy one that does have a large tank then just pour it out! I have one for my apartment I only beed to empty once in 24 hours. You can regulate the settings too!
I have read a lot of the comments and most of them are band aid-fixes. Spraying chemicals on what you can see, what about what you can't see. Dehumidifier won't fix how the moisture is coming in. Mold will grow on anything porous. Best thing to do is remove everything, the cardboard, drywall, insulation then identify the moisture source, and eliminate it. Good luck.
Dang thanks yo
@@isaacturnerit Not sure a thanks are deserved, but welcome. Mold eradication is a serious deal usually handled by professionals, nasty stuff. If you plan on doing it yourself, please do some research. You need a fullface respirator, 1 piece suit, gloves and double bag everything.
they have a paint to put on the walls to prevent water from drawing the cement,
Fosho
You are going to need to seal off those areas that are just cardboard. With a wet climate like the pacific northwest, if you dont close up those areas no matter what you do to dry it out, its going to stay damp in there and you will basically be trying to dry out the outside endlessly. Seal up those areas, insulate them with some fiberglass or rockwool batting and plywood sheathing. Also check over everything for leaks. A common spot is along the gutters and edge of roof overhand, especially if the gutters were full and the water sits up against the wood it can find its way in. Always look for the root cause of the issue, not just solutions to the symptoms. Then seal up any cracks that lead to the outside/let water in. The wood stove works great to dry out the air. You could also invest in a good dehumidifier that you can either drain the tray or run a hose outside to drain the water that it pulls out of the air. Being from the midwest, sometimes our basements can hold water in the air and its common to see people with rooms or basements that run a dehumidifier all the time.
Got ya
Also, check the outside to see if there is soil up against the house block - you could dig a little ditch around the walkway behind the hill wall to channel the water from the hillside down and around, or add a gutter. I could see the moisture entering in through the cement block when you opened the closet. The bigger picture may be to clear the soil - make a small French drain - wrap the add on back wall - run a dehumidifier that drains outside of the house so that you do not need to manage dumping the water. Also, any leaf litter on the roof or overhanging branches could be trimmed. I know it is a lot, but that room has some nice features to it. If you do it now, it will not need much management. Jerry rigging any house stuff never lasts for long. I love watching you guys!
On it!
Isaac, get an old tire and put a few pieces of wood inside the center to hold the wood up for you while you split it!
Great idea
If there are any stones or concrete blocks that ain’t sealed that can get wet on the outside needs to be sealed buddy ! I seen some in that closet or pantry door you opened they didn’t look sealed and there was water in that room for sure that’s where the water is getting stuck at
Ok will check

If you have a sprayer hand pump you can make a solution to spray on the walls/ cabinet and use to rinse. ( Jug with hose sprayer) a fan helps ( stove none electric can too). Dehumidifier ( as others suggest). A bucket with cat litter or/ plain charcoal/ even dried use coffee grounds and some rocks layer along with a cloth in the center support by a wire( like a wick). works The dri ease can make you/ animals sick if used in small to med small areas and can be poisonous to children/ animals. Place in the back far area of the room. Check and empty as needed.

Issac, We have the same problems. We bought an old mobile, on acreage, about 4 acres, it has an addition like that as well. When it was built, it was never properly attached to the house, so now the roofline leaks. We were hoping to re-do the roof, and walls, and fix it up, but the floor is bad as well. So the whole thing eventually has to come down. Only reason, we bought it was because we were able to pay ash for it. it used to be a horse farm. has barns, sheds everywhere, and nice chicken coops. So it works for us, but sadly we don't have the youth and energy you both have. We are 74 and 75. So slow progress, but we will get there. But I know you are Jaylena will be capable of doing almost anything. You both work so well together. So you will get this!!! Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
💗💗💗
It could be a good usable space if you insulate and do a little finish work in time. You are doing it right.
I planned on doing that eventually
Sadly we had to pull the wallboard off the walls, in our kitchen reno, and fix any rot, then re-insulate and put up new walls. We have to do that in most of our walls in the mobile. We need a new roof too. It's never ending. We could have put another mobile on the property, but used ones are so expensive, and they have the same problems. When they built them, they never set the windows in properly, and that's where most of the problems come in. At least that's what we have found. Good luck in your reno's, I know you can do it. Neither one of you are slackereds for sure. Your'e go getters!!!! You will over come!!!! From Alberta Canada
You doing good, stick with it, it’s all gona take time to get all the necessary items done, keeping basement mold free requires keeping the moisture out and stay on top of it with your damp temps best of luck

There are so many seniors who are homeless and just trying to survive. I know that buying my house when I was young was a good decision l Iive in Miami and the real estate prices are a crime.. Like others are saying Isaac, when the area isn’t sealed up with insulation and is exposed to cold air like that, you are gonna get mold. I am a home owner to an old house that I have owned 3 years now and I find every few months another issue that needs tended to with cracks and such. Best thing to do is seal that room up best as you can and insulate it. If you can heat it minimally that will help and run a dehumidifier. They also sell stuff called ‘damp rid’ if you don’t want to add to the expense of running a dehumidifier. But then again you are buying the damp rid. They also sell a version of it in some Dollar Stores.
Dang thanks for the tips
I'm from the SW desert near Amarillo TX. The only mold I see is on the cheese in my fridge. 😊
I keep a small oscilating fan running in my utility room just to stir the air from my laundry. Even though the dryer is vented properly a small fan doesnt use much power. It sits on top of my upright freezer year around.
I'd love to have a big old wood stove like those you have in your garage and your back porch. I don't have any backup but a generator if my power goes off. I'm glad y'all do.

drying it out is a good idea, cleaning vinegar will kill the mold for now spraying down the cat tree, wiping the walls, in the summer open the wall that is connected to the house and see how much mold is there if it grew that fast its probably a lot. there is a mold killer at HD, you may have to literally replace all the insulation and stucco walls. get a fan in that room to keep the air circulating and blowing outside, and finish the ceiling when you can, don't give up there is so much potential there...mold in the P.N.W. is a common thing ass there is so much moisture in the air.. better insulation for sure....

Please wear a suitable mask when spraying bleach etc. and removing mold. 😷 Clean the windows, including window tracks and the insect screens as well. I've been removing black mold at my place it's a painstaking job but worth it. You are doing great things Isaac all the best to you and family.😊

MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy New Year!❤❤❤
Merry Christmas!!
Isaasc. you might want to use a floor fan to push wind across the window sideways on the woodstove to push the heat around and leave the the vent open slightly on the stove to keep the wood burning but not to fast. Get the log off the top of the stove please. You don't want a fire and yes, close the windows once it heats up in there because you want it dry, not outside moist air. Hope it stops the mold.
Great idea
Dehumidifier should take care of the moisture.
Ok looking into them
maybe a lite solution of bleach water to spray/wipe out there can help with keeping the mold at bay until you figure what you want to do. If it's going to be a porch, consider opening those windows so the dew is able to dry or if you want to keep it as a porch you will need to seal it up. Kris
Gotcha
Awesome that you cleared up the mound
💗
You got a lot of good suggestions. I'm sure will help.😊
Def thanks for dropping in
I have all the faith in you and Jaylena. You got this. A lot of great suggestions from everyone. Thumbs up and Happy Holidays to you and yours from S. California.
Thank you :)
Kilz primer will help with the sheet rock. You got this!
On it
I am sensitive to bleach and mold , I don't play when it comes to mold . Keep it dry and if bleach doesn't keep it away you are going to have to look for a source . I've seen some things. Don't panic I got UR back .
Dang
Sorry I don't know anything about mold. I hope you get it sorted easily. Love that fire burning.
Working on it
The one thing i thought about was that log on top of the stove. Move it off of there asap.
Ha ha def! I forgot about it
