I have also discovered that a "baby" puppet (which has nothing that can be choked on), filled with treats and chewies, works well as a way to occupy and gratify my dog while I'm away at work. She has to work at getting into the puppet to get the treats. This little dog who used to be a wreck when I would leave in the morning, now waits calmly and patiently for her treat filled "duck" which I put down for her just before I leave. It is cheaper than all the other very expensive options we tried.

Dogs are "pack" animals, therefore it is very difficult for one of them to be left alone, unlike a cat who loves being alone.

I know, which is why I am trying to get her a little buddy, but it's also difficult to find an apartment that will allow two little dogs. But I'm working on it. She was actually adopted to be a companion for our other little dog who passed away.
