I fell in love with Robert Plant on February 16, 1969. I was 16 and went to a vanilla fudge concert. Another band, called Led Zeppelin, was the warm-up act. When I first laid eyes on Mr. Plant, I couldn't believe how beautiful he was and how powerfully he sang. Wow.......not that you think the song is great or anything like that. I was lucky enough to love it the first time around. The wow is that you actually heard it on a radio station. I love that it's in my rotation of mix songs. I really like Principle of Moment's as well. Plant's solo efforts are what introduced me to how great Led Zeppelin is. I was just a touch too young to catch them the first time around. I was just beginning my musical experimentation in the early 80's and I always thought of them as more my parents age so I never gave them a thought. Glad I got up to speed......LOL.
What's so crazy to me too is how in this day and age, zeppelin almost seems universally acclaimed but during there era they used to get dragged through the mud for everything. All the big media outlets would bash them especially rolling stone magazine.
@@brandonstandberry8236 who gives a fuck? Cornell was more gifted vocally and he and his band wrote 10%, at best, of Zeps content. Who had the better career? Not even close.

Plant is a chameleon for sure! You give that guy a line and he will make it a melody the likes of which you have never heard! One of my very very fav singers.
Such a great song. No one could have done this any better than Robert Plant. The ending to the song with the piano and guitar just highlight the magic of the entire song.
Randall G part of that is credit to the engineers and producers that worked on this record and song, phil johnstone co-wrote this song, the sound engineering and music production is still superior over many records today
This song takes me back to high school. Memories and Happiness flood my mind. Crazy how a song can take you to a moment in time as if it were yesterday. 14 was 40 years ago.
Hey 👋 everybody ! Does someone knows the exact release date of this song ? Because I’m searching and I found « August 1988 » but the album was released on February 88. Summer or winter ? Do you remember ? It’s very important for me ! Thank you 🙏🏻
I am 61, been listening to rock music since i was 2, still prefer the music from the 70's over any other decade, 80's are my second favorite, all the songs recorded by tjis men over the years has always been stellar. His fantastic range is why he made the guiness record book of world records. Fabulous singer, love his voice, and easy on the eyes!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
You are so right! When I hear this I’m immediately transported back to being a freshman in high school and it makes me think about the girl that I used to think about when I would hear it. Certain songs are more powerful time machines than others. It brings back the emotions that you were feeling at the time or something like that.
I also met him a few times in the mid 90s... actually hung out with him various times over the weeks he and the band spent in Pensacola preparing to start their tour. He was extremely kind, funny, rarely drank, smoked or used foul language. He carried this cool wallet from the 70s. Looked like something he'd picked up at a festival. Definitely handmade. I found it very telling of his personality. Pretty humble guy, actually, though he did say he remembers feeling immortal when he was about 17, overlooking the crowd that packed the stadium where they were playing.
Karen Sconyers Grubbs. He never played a stadium when he was 17. Wasn't even in Led Zep until he was 19. They didn't play stadiums till he was around 22-23...or older. Sure you met him...? Hmmm.
@@philosopher0076 Yep, positive. As you can imagine, it was a highlight of those years. It's been at least 22 years ago, so I could be remembering it incorrectly. But, as I recall, he said he was 17, getting ready to play in a stadium, riding in an elevator and looking out over the cheering crowd as he went up. Said he felt he like he was immortal at that moment. Heck, maybe he was remembering it incorrectly.... quite possible considering all factors.
@@karensconyersgrubbs9119 Somehow I don't think Robert Plant was the one remembering incorrectly. He seems to have an excellent memory. Also, you seem to be an American. Robert Plant hadn't been to America when he was 17.
Yes one of the best songs ever by Robert Plant ! There's a fine line between genius and insanity. No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness.
@@robertanthonyplant7539 how much of the lyrics did you write in both this song and then "Heaven Knows" off this same album. As per a percentage of your lyrics in both songs. It's my fave Plant solo album, which also came out the same year as Jimmy Page's solo album Outrider. The 12 string acoustic instrumental song Emerald Eyes (if memory serves. It's been years. 😆) is one of my favorite guitar melodies ever written. Walking to Clarksdale was a great album.

@@kentleykingtaggart7034 it's about the eternal struggle that is being in love. That love is as beautiful as is it painful. That it seduces us with its beauty and we often act foolishly while in love, that its fleeting for most and painful and disappointing for many and we often throw away the more true love for something "better".
fluttering silhouettes upon a spectral horizon dance a spiralled spiritual evolution of light towards eternity becoming stardust radiating light from the cosmic void existence beyond space and time we all shine.
Cosmic echoes of unusual sound In the void of space they do abound. All across the great expanse the comets do their galactic dance. Super Novas of brilliant white spread out their fingers of radiant light. Reaching out to curves and folds where time stands still and dreams untold the future holds.
Just Jeanne It truly is a magical song. It evokes powerful feelings and memories in me. Some are sad and wistful, but they make me feel my humanity very profoundly.
The fact that I'm here listening to this in my early sixties is a prime example of someone who discovered Led Zeppelin in my early teens and followed them and the members through their various projects because of the creative explosion that happened in music through the sixties, not only in songwriting and lyrics but in the field of instrument amplification and sound engineering through to production and distribution methods...so through my passion of audio mixing and production I have been lucky enough to witness an extraordinary evolution in music and it's performance...Peace!
@@incognito7479 I think you'll find that I wasn't making a comparison and it is something that I think is a failure of published music critics especially during that period with the " who is the genius behind the music, who is the best?" angle when in fact, it is my lived experience in the collaborative formation of a few decent bands that the magic happens when the comparisons are left at the door so that the collective input of all members including some non playing but essential parts can be woven in to something that is greater than the sum of those parts. There is so much more to succeeding in music than singular notoriety✌️
As I listen to this song I think of something that I learned the other day. I need to read my Bible instead of wearing it. A Jewish rabbi I listen to reminded me of a promise that was given to you and me.

I agree with you on that. It was a truly great tour-the Now and Zen tour of '88. Saw him at the Costa Mesa Amphitheatre. The place is still in ruins after he leveled the bleachers.
This is a lovely song, but the truly magnificent part is the outro, just past the 4:00 mark onwards- it is truly ethereal and other-worldly in its beauty. Sends chills down my spine and pangs of regret through my being.
I loved the change in the direction of Plant's music from this record after the disaster of Shaken 'n' Stirred. Robbie Blunt was a perfect match, tasty musician. First two album are specially good. Doug Boyle does a terrific job from now on, and so the band. I love this song.

Glad I got up to speed......LOL.
...the drumming
the voice that launched 10,000 ships... Bravo, Mr Plant, encore...
1988
His music is for all the ages. From the 60's with Led Zeppelin to the 80's, the man is timeless still in 2020.
The voice of rock and roll..... Love everything Robert Plant does.....
Did you know they were more famous than the Beatles??Melissa.
everything...hmmmm
What's so crazy to me too is how in this day and age, zeppelin almost seems universally acclaimed but during there era they used to get dragged through the mud for everything. All the big media outlets would bash them especially rolling stone magazine.
Chris Cornell had a vocal range that Plant wishes he had.
@@brandonstandberry8236 who gives a fuck? Cornell was more gifted vocally and he and his band wrote 10%, at best, of Zeps content. Who had the better career? Not even close.
The Lyrics…pure poetry filled with intense emotions.❤️
He is quite a wordsmith.
Damn Agree with you!
So true, love it
❤️
YEeeesssss! Those words you say! Thank you. Perfectly wound phrase of my feelings of any song that hits my heart. Thank you. So difficult for me to put feelings into words sometimes. You hit the proverbial nail on the head
Plant is a chameleon for sure! You give that guy a line and he will make it a melody the likes of which you have never heard! One of my very very fav singers.
Such a great song. No one could have done this any better than Robert Plant. The ending to the song with the piano and guitar just highlight the magic of the entire song.

This song is one I don’t want anyone to cover, because I don’t think anyone can do it any better than Robert Plant
This music was so far ahead of it's time. Unreal that this was made over 25 years ago. This looks and sounds like something of modern day.
Randall G part of that is credit to the engineers and producers that worked on this record and song, phil johnstone co-wrote this song, the sound engineering and music production is still superior over many records today
+Randall G not really
Randall G you just insulted the shitvout of Robert Plant
its way better mate
TreeHugger you got that right
the greatest singer that walk the earth... him and Lou Gramm....LEGENDS!!!!
Billy squire
it is wonderful to worship humans?
Sreten Trifunovic slightly disagree with you, I would put Elvis in the first place and then Plant and Gramm
I agree but Paul Rodgers is the second best!
I agree with Robert Plant in 1st Place....But I have a few others for second place!!
Love this guy (plant)since zeppelin, pure 👌 perfect music and voice
One of the best vocal performances he ever did.
This song takes me back to high school. Memories and Happiness flood my mind. Crazy how a song can take you to a moment in time as if it were yesterday. 14 was 40 years ago.
Same here!!
Try watching old TV commercials. Now that is weird. You'll feel like you saw it yesterday and it's been 30 -40 years...
Hey 👋 everybody ! Does someone knows the exact release date of this song ? Because I’m searching and I found « August 1988 » but the album was released on February 88. Summer or winter ? Do you remember ? It’s very important for me ! Thank you 🙏🏻
The guitar on this song is absolutely beautiful
This song came out during my senior year in high school. I was totally blown away by it at the time, and it still holds up. 👍
Class of 88
Ditto 😊
I was a junior in 88 and this song is still amazing!
The guitar and melody of this song is simply amazing. The Lyrics are poetry. Robert plant is a legend.
Robert Plant: Colosal. Exquisito. Poeta. Mágico. Único.... Gracias eternas!
This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it... and feel it...
Robert plant is the bomb ×0!×.1
FUCKING!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!!
It's hauntingly beautiful!
EVERY musician, flipping through a record collection, gets to the Plant/Blunt albums, holds one up, points to it, and announces: killer guitar.
I know I did
Music is realy the best time machine
You are so right! When I hear this I’m immediately transported back to being a freshman in high school and it makes me think about the girl that I used to think about when I would hear it. Certain songs are more powerful time machines than others. It brings back the emotions that you were feeling at the time or something like that.
- Like one of my local radio stations likes to advertise..."Music can take you back to a moment...a place...a person. All it takes...is a song."
Yessss you’re so very right!!!!
drewper73 yes I love it
ckendall67 so true it was Renee for me GOD I’m so glad she back in my life
2020 still listening. Still enjoying the magic!🌹
Always
check out "little by little" also
2020, and just found this GEM! Fantastic!
First time for me
💋🌹 AWESOME!!!!
Thank you for your brilliant music, Mr. Plant. Its a masterpiece.
What a majestic creature.
A very pleasant man in person. I met him at a Firm concert in Birmingham, U.K. in May of 1985. Just came out to see Jimmy play....
I tried my best to get Robert Plant and Jimmy Page back together again for the 2020 Olympic games Tokyo Japan.
When Musicians had Class and Talent oh how far music has fallen
And a moral compass!
It's not just the music, more and more poison in the world, Robert Plant , a great singer ., a good antidote.
Though a rock singer, he had a very nice voice. He could have sung the classics!
Yes one of the best songs ever by Robert Plant ! There's a fine line between genius and insanity.
No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness.
This song is timeless.
So is true Love... timeless.
I would play my tape 📼 cassette all the time 😊
Beautiful song and Robert's voice. Amazing ❤️
Your timbre is incredible!
Everything about it is amazing, especially the lyrics.
Thanks for liking, watching and listening to my songs, Thanks for your love ❤️and moral support. I hope you have been well entertained over the years?
April 2022 and this is everlasting
@@robertanthonyplant7539 how much of the lyrics did you write in both this song and then "Heaven Knows" off this same album. As per a percentage of your lyrics in both songs. It's my fave Plant solo album, which also came out the same year as Jimmy Page's solo album Outrider. The 12 string acoustic instrumental song Emerald Eyes (if memory serves. It's been years. 😆) is one of my favorite guitar melodies ever written. Walking to Clarksdale was a great album.

I have always loved his voice that is timeless. So thankful that I did get to see him in concert when tickets were super inexpensive and when we could actually go to concerts. Sounds strange to even say that in the days we live through a pandemic. So nice to go back to such a place of peace and good memories through his music. Something that we all need in this strange world we live in today. Thanks for all the great music through my lifetime!! 💓💓
I saw Robert plant do this in concert, Stevie Ray Vaughan opened. You don't get any better than that.

I get to go see him in June..can't wait!
Their is nothing better than this song ,,.
"Ship Of Fools"
On waves of love my heart is breaking
And stranger still my self control I can't rely on anymore
New tides surprise - my world it's changing
Within this frame an ocean swells - behind this smile I know it well
Beneath a lover's moon I'm waiting
I am the pilot of the storm - adrift in pleasure I may drown
I built this ship - it is my making
And furthermore my self control I can't rely on anymore
I know why - I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around - back to my loving ground
Who claims that no man is an island
While I land up in jeopardy - more distant from you by degrees
I walk this shore in isolation
And at my feet eternity draws ever sweeter plans for me
I know why - I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around - back to my loving ground
Oh no, oh no - ship of fools --
Garifalo Feggariou Thanks
Garifalo Feggariou Have you figured out what the song is about?
@@kentleykingtaggart7034 it's about the eternal struggle that is being in love. That love is as beautiful as is it painful. That it seduces us with its beauty and we often act foolishly while in love, that its fleeting for most and painful and disappointing for many and we often throw away the more true love for something "better".
@@kentleykingtaggart7034Sounds like
it's about A., the singer whom he considered making his second wife.
Thank you.
Shimmering with space and light.... this song is magical.....
Just Jeanne A glimmer of light in spacely flight a lovers moon does one delight.
fluttering silhouettes upon a spectral horizon dance a spiralled spiritual evolution of light towards eternity becoming stardust radiating light from the cosmic void existence beyond space and time we all shine.
Cosmic echoes of unusual sound
In the void of space they do abound. All across the great expanse the comets do their galactic dance. Super Novas of brilliant white spread out their fingers of radiant light. Reaching out to curves and folds where time
stands still and dreams untold the future holds.
Just Jeanne It truly is a magical song. It evokes powerful feelings and memories in me. Some are sad and wistful, but they make me feel my humanity very profoundly.
It's his best video and that smile in the video
great great great song
This transcends the bounds of being where ever I find myself.
AAHHHH, This man never ceased to totally amaze me, been listening to him and Zep for over 50yrs. That Voice, seen him sooo many times, he's timeless.
Seeing him live was epic
The fact that I'm here listening to this in my early sixties is a prime example of someone who discovered Led Zeppelin in my early teens and followed them and the members through their various projects because of the creative explosion that happened in music through the sixties, not only in songwriting and lyrics but in the field of instrument amplification and sound engineering through to
production and distribution methods...so through my passion of audio mixing and production I have been lucky enough to witness an extraordinary evolution in music and it's performance...Peace!
Gordon Genes 🤠🎸🎶🙏✌️
There’s really no comparison between the solo career of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
Maître de mixage Fréquence I didn’t say you were. The comparison, in MY opinion, is nonexistent. Nothing in your comment I disagree with.
@@incognito7479 My mistake, text is a medium that does not have the nuance to always fully relay true sentiment, unlike music ✌️

What a gorgeous song ! This song is now one of my favorites,, what a brilliant voice of Robert Plant!❤❤❤
As I listen to this song I think of something that I learned the other day.
I need to read my Bible instead of wearing it.
A Jewish rabbi I listen to reminded me of a promise that was given to you and me.
Ironic...ship of Fools.

So.. I was a teenager when this song came out. My wife called me a tall cool one in the 80's. To this day we love this album.
Oh my god, thank you SOOO much for this quality! I can’t hardly even stand listening to the other 3-6 I sampled.
a great artist, a timless voice
Phil Collins on the drums!!! Perfect mix.
This song just shows how brilliant and talented Plant is!
Yes and a guitar masterpiece as well

I was crazy on a ship of fools at the air traffic control facility of Washington DC Dulles. I requested this song on a midnight shift and DC101 played it. That was somewhere in 1997. Robert Plant was the best and crazy we were! I'll forever remember this song as the anthem for DC Dulles!

Saw Robert Plant in '88 on the Now and Zen tour. Awesome show.
reptilia5 Ditto. Stevie Ray Vaughn opened. Top 5. They brought the house down
Man, I wish I had been into him at that time.
I agree with you on that. It was a truly great tour-the Now and Zen tour of '88. Saw him at the Costa Mesa Amphitheatre. The place is still in ruins after he leveled the bleachers.
Yep saw him in DC Jimmy Page was just sitting down playing guitar. Everybody thought I was seeing things...not.
I had second row tickets in Kansas City, the day before the concert the drummer broke his hand at practice I think it was
Just a recommendation to the "youngsters" - get this album ... it's a masterpiece!
This song is so fkn beautiful. Riffs at the end choke me up every time.
I'm about to be 62 and I still have my shirt from my first time seeing him and them.
This is a lovely song, but the truly magnificent part is the outro, just past the 4:00 mark onwards- it is truly ethereal and other-worldly in its beauty. Sends chills down my spine and pangs of regret through my being.
SFV650FU It is transcendent, truly underplayed on the radio these days. Peace to you
SFV650FU Great comment - yes I love this outro, truly wonderful.
I loved the change in the direction of Plant's music from this record after the disaster of Shaken 'n' Stirred. Robbie Blunt was a perfect match, tasty musician. First two album are specially good. Doug Boyle does a terrific job from now on, and so the band. I love this song.
What do you regret so deeply? if I may ask?SFV650FU
Nothing in particular; the song simply evokes that feeling.
Plant has the most amazing voice. Each song has it's own characteristics.
His range is just beautiful. Wow! To have lived and grown up, at the same time
that Robert Plant was growing up...What a wonderful coincidence!
His songs are beyond the confines of music, art or anything that is worldly.. He is from a different world.. 🙏
Robert's solo work is a demanding but also very exciting music. Masterpiece.
